I looked it up, and unless the Internet is wrong, of course, it’s never wrong is it?, the kind with the screw is a 702. That’s the best information I can find. If you have a 700 like mine with the screw, that would be neat to see. Let me know if you made a video on one. Thanks for your visit and have a great weekend.
You all answered my questions. I don't have any need for a "toy" vise, but I began my tool collection at 14, including a used clamp on 700. It served my 4 year old son on his first workbench, his younger brothers and now is used by a 10 year old grandson. I was interested in the screw diwn version, and if they upgraded the hollow casting in that version. I never considered that the floppy jaw function could be advantageous, but his demonstration of holding the angled pattern of his angle grinder works well. I use a higher quality traditional Wilton woodworkers vise frequently to hold a router. The much more parallel jaws fail to grip the router housings without crushing. He just demonstrated that "better" isn't always better!
Once again, it’s great to hear from you. I still think it’s wonderful that so many of your children and grandchildren have taken an interest. My grand children are two and three, but I hope one of these days they’ll take more of an interest. The three year old always wants to go, Look at Papas tools. I think it’s great. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a great week.
I have wanted a Stanley 700 since I saw Scoutcrafter preview one a few years back. I've only seen two here in Maryland. The first one was offered for $70 by the vendor. A little salty for my budget. Just a month ago I located one in very nice condition at a local garage sale about 5 miles from my house. The owner was asking $20. I couldn't get the money out fast enough! Thanks very much for the excellent review. 😉👍
Awesome video! I’ve had one of these gems since Scoutcrafter turned us on to it about 5 years ago. Got it on eBay pretty cheap but the MDF jaws were used and abused. There was someone on eBay selling replacements but for more than I paid for the vice. I found an old piece of mdf, I think it was a panel out of an old 70’s wooden garage door I replaced. Was the perfect thickness and I traced and cut new ones. Still on it today! I love that little thing. Everyone should have one! Thanks! 🇺🇸
Thank you. I love hearing stories like this. And to think that I didn’t think very much of it when I received it and it sat in my shed for over a year. I wanted another vice so I pulled it out and mounted it and it has turned out to be a very useful tool. Thanks again for sharing and come by again soon. Have a great weekend.
Hi. Great video. Can not find one that mounts like yours. They all have a screw clamp on the bottom. I like yours that you can screw to the top of the bench. Great video. 👍👍❤🤠...
Thank you. I really am interested in the different models. I am curious about how rare the one I have is? Thanks so much for your visit. Hope you have a great weekend.
Several people have mentioned that type of vise. I’ll have to keep an eye out, they shouldn’t be hard to find it’s always see you on eBay. Thanks so much for sharing. Come again soon. Have a great week.
That is some great information on the different ways that this vise can be utilized! I just recently bought one on Ebay. It is the Stanley 700, but it is a portable one that has the screw down clamp on the bottom so it can be moved from place to place. I had never seen one before, and now you've shown some new ways to use it. Thank you!
Thank you and you’re welcome. Is yours a model 700 or a 702? I looked it up and it said the 702 has the screw down clamp. But I’m curious to know if yours is a 700. I might have to keep a eye out for that kind. You know me, collecting all kinds of things. Thanks for your visit and have a great weekend.
Hey! I have one of those. I use it as an aftermarket shoulder vise for my bench for edge jointing boards. Don’t know about using it frame assembly. I found mine at salvage. Didn’t know it existed and now love it. Mine doesn’t seem to have that binding issue you pointed out. I likewise don’t think they make these anymore
Like you I have found it to be very useful. I appreciate you coming by and sharing your thoughts. Thanks so much for your visit and come by again soon. Hope you have a great weekend.
It sure is a nice little vice and to think I didn’t think very much of it when I first received it. It has turned out to be a nice little jewel. Thanks so much for your visit and have a great weekend.
You put that really well. A new appreciation. I'm glad you posted about this, I'll keep my eye out for one of these. Tomorrow is Sunday....What have you got up your sleeve next?
Thank you very much for your kind words. There’s a mystery video for tomorrow and a restoration to come out on Thursday night. Look forward to your visit and hope you have a great weekend.
They are some useful little tools. I don’t know that I have the influence to change prices yet but good luck in finding one for yourself. Thanks for coming by the shop and hope you have a great week.
The original version was designed in the 1920s. Someone would be wise to start making and selling them again. Since Stanley is still around seems like they should do it.
That’s too bad that you didn’t like it. I definitely wouldn’t want it to be my primary vice, but I have found that it has some useful aspects. Thanks for your visit and have a great week.
I’ve never seen a screw down 700! I thought they were all clamp down. Very interesting! 😃👍

It is nice and has served me well. Thanks for your visit and have a great weekend.
I have the same vise my mom got me when I was a teenager. Of course it's a precious possession.
It sure is a nice little vice and to think I didn’t think very much of it when I first received it. It has turned out to be a nice little jewel. Thanks so much for your visit and have a great weekend.
Looks to be a decent bit of kit. I have seen them before but never got around to buying one. Might do next year.
Thanks for your visit and good luck. I hope I come across one next year and have a great weekend.
You put that really well. A new appreciation.

@@toolscouter ...That will be fun. Mysteries are perfect!
I've always wanted one of those for woodworking but it remains on my wishlist.
Good luck, I hope you can find one. I haven’t looked on eBay yet but trust you’ll come across one soon. Have a great weekend and see you next time.
I've been looking for a while but they have all been expensive or just to beat up to save
I have a zyliss vice I bought second hand and it is the best £20 I ever spent on a tool.
It’s great when you find tools like that. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.
I've been looking for a 700 for a while, but the prices just keep going up. Probably went up another $10 after your great review, lol.
They are some useful little tools. I don’t know that I have the influence to change prices yet but good luck in finding one for yourself. Thanks for coming by the shop and hope you have a great week.
is this a vintage vice?
They were made from 1929 to 1932. That would probably be vintage. Thanks for your visit and have a great weekend.
The original version was designed in the 1920s. Someone would be wise to start making and selling them again. Since Stanley is still around seems like they should do it.
That date is good to know, thanks for sharing it. I appreciate you stopping by for a visit and hope you have a great weekend.
I have two of the Stanley 700s. Both are clamp on style. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for letting me know.
My dad had one on his workbench in the 1950's i inherited it in the early 70's , worst vise ever .
That’s too bad that you didn’t like it. I definitely wouldn’t want it to be my primary vice, but I have found that it has some useful aspects. Thanks for your visit and have a great week.
