    wait, what? you have different stations in your shop? lol ! I just make room on the workbench 😁 it looks fantastic, clutter and all! A definite feel good place to get lost in and forget about any worries. My wife would LOVE to keep bees. Thanks for the tour 👍🛠

      😄😄 yes, I called him stations, but it all kind of morphs together. The shop is definitely a place where I lose track of time. All of a sudden I get a text from my wife who says, “when are you coming in to be with the rest of us?”😳 The bee project is definitely an opportunity to connect with my daughter. So I’m looking forward to it and we will share some more later on the channel. Thank you so much for your visit and hope you have a great week.

    Becky (my wife) regularly mentions my hope to visit your shop. She has traveled some with me to visit and tour folk that I have met via RUclips. We just haven't had a demand recently to drive your way since August.
    I really appreciate the shop tour! I had no real shop until I converted a mid 1800's root cellar. It was a lousy shop, only about 10x14', where my head barely cleared the log ceiling floor joists, and I constantly dealt with a flooded floor. I eventually upgraded and converted my largest of unconnected basements into a dry climate controlled space. This partial basement under a larger house expansion gave me limited space with 7.5' ceiling, and only a 6' man door. I crammed numerous woodshop machines and machine shop machines into this space. After my retirement, my dear wife suggested that I build a proper shop. I have converted my basement shop into exclusive woodshop, and I have 3200sf shop space in a 4600sf shop building. I have committed the last several years to expanding my machine shop capacity and developing a proper mechanic shop. With 16' ceilings and 14x16' overhead doors, I have space to work and expand. I add new machinery as opportunity provides. I favor old industrial machines and enjoy great pleasure reconditioning machines and then employing them in my shop.
    I treat myself with lifelong desires every few months. Part of my life mission is disciple young men into vibrant service to Jesus Christ. The trades being very good to me and my offspring, I use my shops to mentor young men in the trades and build relationships that foster Christian growth. My wife could have been unsupportive about my shop life as she finds no personal pleasure in the shop(s). Happy and successful marriages are built around collaboration. For me to enjoy such extensive shop capacity in retirement isn't justifiable without her energetic support. I marvel daily that I have a precious wife and that I cannot justify the shops that I enjoy.
    My father had only a tiny shop with very few tools. He loved his shop, and he passed on his shop passion to me. He didn't live to see what God has kindly allowed me to enjoy. I was an industrial maintenance electrician and mechanic. My career exposed me to most common trades. Woodshop/fine furniture and general machine shop machining are my primary retirement hobby focus, but I included 14K# vehicle lift in my vehicle service bay. My boys and grandsons help me on major tasks like when I rigged my largest lathe (9500#). I didn't have enough capacity to haul it or rig it through the shop, but we were just barely able to get it off of the trailer with the vehicle lift.
    Your work and mine differ, but you exhibit the same passions that drive me. I am writing a lengthy comment while I wait for laquer to cure so I can complete the last laquer coat on the current hopechest project.

      Thank you so much for sharing about your life and how the Lord is using you. Ever since I can remember, my dad always had a workbench and some tools, at least in the corner of some storage room or outbuilding. When I was young, they never were big. When we came back to the states from the mission field, my dad began to accumulate more tools and his garage became very full. When he retired, they moved in next door and he built this shop that I’m working in. He passed away of cancer and Parkinson’s about seven years ago, and I have inherited all of his shop and tools. I am definitely blessed by the parents I was given to raise me the way they have, and to have received not just a wonderful gift of a Christian Heritage, but to have a place that I can enjoy working with my hands and spending time with my family there as well.
      What you and I do is very different, but there is a wonderful beauty in the variety and talents, God has given each of us. I believe we should admire each other’s accomplishments and encourage those differences. You fill a category of industry that others don’t, and others fill a category that you don’t. Together things get done.
      Keep on speaking into the lives of others and there will be a huge blessing. Not just for them but for you as well. Thanks for coming by the shop for visited sharing. Have a great week and God bless you.

    Thank you for showing us your shop "in the wild". I am always a little suspicious of a shop that is too clean! I have been on the lookout for an affordable 1x42 belt sander for a while. I don't want one of those cheap little 1x30 ones everyone else uses. I want it to be a bit more powerful and prefferably an older model. Lately, I have been thinking about making one. Thank you for sharing your blessings with the rest of us. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤

I also appreciate your realistic tool brand selection - common sense and needs based! So admirer your tool wall! You could sell posters of that wall! I’ll buy one! Like pictures of the Studley Tool chest! I also like your last comment - that you appreciate your shop and your viewers!

As for the tablesaw, I’m not sure how old it is, but I really like it. The worm gears work very smoothly. The only thing I would like to have been a little better is the fence. To get it very precise you have to measure from the blade and then from the grooves in the tablesaw to get it perfect. thanks again for your visit and hope you have a great week.

      That’s great. I hope they are fond memories. I do have a kerosene heater in the middle of the shop but that is not what I use. There is baseboard heat on the south wall. It doesn’t get real warm in the shop but at least fumes will not combust. Yes, all of the large tools I inherited from my father. Only the battery operated tools and hand tools are originally mine. We always had some kind of a project we were doing together, whether it was fixing something on the house or building something in the shop. I am blessed to have what he has left me. "Chop saw"! Please, please don't call it that. That indicates the way that the tool is used and a miter saw shouldn't be used in such a careless manner, though I know it is a popular nomenclature, it makes me cringe every time someone says it. As a retired finish carpenter/builder, I can tell you it is easy to tell when someone uses a "chop saw" and when someone properly uses a power miter saw. (I have 3).

    • @toolscouter
      @toolscouter  2 дня назад +1

      Good comment, though I call my saws by common and proper names. In the 1970's I was introduced to the radial arm saw. It was such a versatile tool that I just had to have one. I purchased a used Craftsman in 1977 and used it for most of the marvelous functions that it was capable of doing, though not doing exceedingly well. I replaced the OEM particle board table with a much larger 3/4" aluminum plate, which allowed the saw to survive in the DAMP converted farrowing house I then used as a shop. The Craftsman model was old enough that critical worn parts could not be purchased, so accuracy was compromised. It was under powered as most of that brand and vintage were. I neglected that saw as the hog house continued to deteriorate. By then, radial arm saws had fallen out of favor, and miter saws and sliding miter saws were taking their place. I settled on DeWalt, but other premium contractor brands could be acceptable to me. I have been through a series of table saw upgrades, I think 6 in total. I am currently very satisfied with a Houdaille vintage Powermatic 66 and a very heavily modified vintage Delta contractor tablesaw. I no longer see a need for the radial arm saw option, and scrapped mine several years ago when I tire down the farrowing house to erect a proper shop building.
      I am not against employing a proper industrial grade RAS someday, but my "chop saw" options meet my needs well. I like their portability. On a proper portable stand with appropriate fence/table and collapsing long stock support, I can manage the longest stock that I can get into my shop (around 14'), and still take a saw to a remote construction site.
