My condolences. Thank you for the update. I was a teenager when this song was hot, and it just takes me back to a different time and place. RIP Paul. 💛
I can still remember when I first heard this song. All of the vocal groups in and around the St. Louis area when sing this at their shows. What a wonderful time when we had a multitude of male vocal groups. It's sad that time has past.
I bought this in the UK in the glorious Summer of 1977 when still at school. It was No.1 in the UK. I'm sorry, but the single version doesn't do it Justice. I had it on a Limited edition 12" extended version that went on for nearly 12 minutes. It was just Sensational. Tell you now, you shudder just how many Children were conceived to this track at the time and through the years 😅 .... It's a Masterpiece that's as Smooth as Silk 👌👏😉
Lucky guy! In 1977, my family moved to the countryside in South Carolina. I could only pick up country music stations and the one R&B station. I wasn't a fan of my parent's country music, so I got introduced to all sorts of R&B music when I was 10. The Floaters, Steely Dan, The Average White Band, Earth, Wind and Fire, Barry White, Roberta Flack, and so many more! Those were the days....
WOW you guys got to this one, Right On. Now please do The Manhattans "Kiss And Say Goodbye" and The Three Degrees "When Will I see You Again" for some more cool soul music.
I was nineteen when this song came out. It was the number one romantic song of 1977. Believe me when I say that a lot of guys got very lucky with this song.😊😘
I graduated HS in 1977 - Why the hell don't I know this song. I've never heard it before - but I love it. Over the next week it will be play 100 times.
Another AM radio memory. I loved listening to this song whenever it came on the radio. Most folks would introduce themselves and include their sign. "What's your sign?" was a pickup line back then.
That's accurate. During that period, they were composing songs that reflected the current events and sentiments. It was an era when the fascination with Zodiac time era and mood rings was prominent, indicating a particular cultural trend. Check out Heatwave, released the same year. Heatwave music fits in perfectly with that intergalactic space music. The Star of a Story and Sho'Nuff Must be Luv. My brother kept playing these songs over and over. Thinking music.
Sadly it was. I wish they were reacting to the longer version. They now need to react to some Stylistics, Blue Magic, and for a slightly different turn, The Blackbyrds and Tavares.
You did it!! I'm stoked! That was one I suggested a few times. One of my All time favorites! We need more smooth grooves like this today! I'm not into Astrology but I am the sign of Cancer. And I did marry a woman who loves people. Thanks for your reactions!
Love this song and love the video! Those suits just scream 70's. Of course, this was back in the day when "What's your sign?" was as good a pick-up line as any. By the way, Cheryl here is a Capricorn LOL. I sure do miss beautiful harmonies like these. Rest in Larry Chamberlain. If you like this smooth 70's soul vibe, give "I Wanna Get Next To You" by Rose Royce a listen. Or "I Do Love You" by GQ. There were a lot of groups like this back then.
Weird, #2! I've never heard this and I listened to all the popular music (played on the local radio) in this era. Though I wonder... Most of my listening to radio as a child was while riding school bus. So maybe this song fell through a summer crack!
I played this song 24/7 when it came out....and got to see them perform this song on "Soul Train." I take all of those Brothas!!!! Especially "the Leo!!!" Leos are DOPE!!! lol......
Awww... man!! I forgot how much I love this song! We used to sing along to this as kids, emphasizing Larry's part. "Cancer... and my name is Larry!" They sure don't make 'em like this no more. ✊🏾🫶🏽
Giving your star sign was such a seventies thing. People always think their own time is more into astrology than any other time, but I can tell you that the seventies was more filled with astrology references than any era I've lived through. "What's your sign?" was a common pick-up line during the seventies. In 1983, the B52s made a song with sort of a similar theme as this hit 1977 song with their minor hit "Song for a Future Generation," where each band member introduces themselves and gives their star sign before telling what some of their interests are. It's at least as amusing as this song.
This was the song that was usually the last dance at the disco back in the 1970’s and it was a special time as a teenager to have the girl you were after in your arms as this last dance at the end of the night. I’m now 65 years old and still love this song.
HEY guys this was one of the big summer hits of 1977 this song was number one on Billboard R&B and Adult Contemporary charts and number two on Billboard pop singles chart this song was on AM and FM radio stations constantly keep up the great work guys.
One of my favorites in my last year of high school that we sang in a few talent shows. Another good one is the live version is "Gloria" by Enchantment. It's just as smooth!
Hello, My name is Lauana. I am a Leo like Amber. My Birthday is July 28th. I will be 63 years young on my birthday and I remember this song very well. Happy upcoming birthday to Amber. Make it great!!! Much ❤
A few years ago I was in a large grocery store in the middle of the day. There was one other shopper-a lady about my age....and this song came on! We both broke out in huge smiles and bonded for a moment agreeing that "those were the days". Thank you Floaters wherever you are! ❤ and I'm a Virgo!
Asking peoples signs back in the 70s was the "in" thing. People sometimes lead with it when introducing themselves. Brings back memories for sure. Oh, and Larry was always my fave.
I love this song. Sesame Street did a parody of this for the number 5 with Luis, Larry, David and Gordon. I was just a kid when I heard both and had no idea what it was about but that it sounded dreamy and smooth. Lol!
Amber and Jay ,1977 baby, with this classic Gem 💎 Amber , Treat me , Right and hold Me Tight. Jay she is crazy 🤣😧, as hell 😊😊, Amber you are Slick and Naughty I see, watch out Jay , my brother 😮 , love your reactions thanks again for the Classic. From my Adolescent Day's. Can't , stop laughing 😂🤣 , I'm in Stitches 😅🪡 litterly. And it's all Amber 😭😔 fault Jay. With her clever witty sly Shananagans.
Alrighty, then! Another song that I've suggested many times! 👍🏽🙂 I've been jamming to this since I was a little girl, because my mom and aunts played it a lot. 😃 My mom's sign is/was Cancer and she loved the part where it was mentioned. 🙂 I'm a Capricorn....a stubborn Capricorn.😊
Here are a few more songs released the same year that Float on was release (1977) that you two would truly enjoy: "Fly Like An Eagle" by The Steve Miller Band "Free" by Deniece Williams "Open Sesame" by Kool and the Gang "I Don't Want To Lose Your Love" by The Emotions
Oh, man! This one really brought me back. It was HUGE back in 1977 hitting No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart for several weeks and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. This was the type of "talk" back then, giving your sign and then your name. It seems corny now but it really was the way it was on the singles scene in that era. Too bad it was their only hit but it was a fun one. I loved your reactions to it!
I was 13 years old, did not know how to speak English in my home town Guatemala city but I loved listening to this awesome song back in 1977. Great memories!
The Floaters were a one-hit wonder. But what a BIG HIT "Float On" was! It was one of the BIGGEST hits of 1977!!! The song was #2 on the Billboard's Hot-100 chart and #1 on the Soul Singles chart! It brings back memories of rollerskating! That song was so central to couples only and "snowball" skating! Thank you for sharing your reactions! 😊👏🏾🎤🎶🎸🎹🥁🛼💯
Hey I'm OLD SKOOL TO THE CORE!!! Love your show especially enjoy how you guys react to music I grew up listening to. A time when bands played real music and folk ACTUALLY SANG! if you like horns you are missing a classic band "Kool & The Gang" Hollywood Swinging or "The Spirit of The Boogie". You will love rocking to either of these songs and trust me you will be hooked on Kool & The Gang - Old Skool Funk for Newbies you guys.
Taurus, and my name is Carlos... This song was huge here in Brazil, i thank my late uncle Eli who introduced me to this kind of music when i was a teen and since then i am totally into it. He used to play another great names from the same era and my suggestions are: Earth, Wind & Fire - Love's holiday Manhattans - It feels so good to be loved so bad Ray, Goodman and Brown - Special lady Smokey Robinson - Cruisin' Delegation - Oh honey Al Hudson and The Soul Partners - Lost inside of you Tyrone Davis - In the mood Peaches and Herb - Reunited Tavares - Never had a love like this before Michael Henderson - Valentine Love L.T.D. - Concentrate on you Chic - A warm summer night Maze feat. Frankie Beverly - Happy Feelings The Dells - I touched a dream Brass Construction - Sweet as sugar WAR - I'll be around and the list goes on...
Another group along these lines is The Manhattans. Kiss And Say Goodbye was a classic, and Shining Star, There's No Me Without You, and It Feels So Good To Be Loved So Bad all stayed on the charts for at least 11 weeks
Man, I haven't heard this song in years and forgot how much I liked their smooooth voices and Motown-type moves. And Amber, I'm a Leo as well! #TeamLeo ♌️ Great reaction, guys!
On Saturdays I love singing this song turned up. Haven't heard a song like this ever again. The 12 minute version is the best one. That's the one I jam to.
When this song came out, me and my girlfriends picked out who we liked based on their voices. I picked Charles because of that falsetto. Good reaction, Guys.❤❤😂😂
This is one of those songs that was always destined to be parodied, and it was on numerous occasions. I do remember this one from the mid 70's and it was taken quite seriously, at the time. It was only afterwards that it became seen as one of those songs that could be effectively parodied.
Yes, definite cheese but fun. Some more to check out, Stevie Wonder - "As", The O'Jays - "For The Love Of Money", "I Love Music", "Backstabbers", "Stairway to Heaven", Lou Rawls - "Natural Man"; and for female friday: Angela bofill - I try; this time I’ll be sweeter; what I wouldn’t do (for the love of you): Phyllis hyman - you know how to love me; somewhere in my lifetime: Brenda Russell - way back when; so good, so right: Deniece Williams - free: Minnie riperton - inside my love.
I didm't stop smiling and grooving the whole way through this! I was growing up when this came into the charts......it just brings me back and makes me miss the fun and adventures of the 80's! Great reveiw as always!
Amber, you are too much. You should create your own lady group. Oh my lord! Haven`t heard this song in decades, possibly over 40 years. I remember buying the Long Playing Record version. It was probably over 12 minutes. When we had dance parties us fellas couldn`t wait for the LP version of Float-On so we can slow dance for minutes. I remember everyone had their own favorite singer. I think mine was Charles, even though I`m a Leo. Man oh man, what a group and those smooth instruments and each person had their own distinct style.
Always a classic! One of those songs where you really get to enjoy seeing how reactors handle it. My name is Jessica and I'm a Gemini. I like somebody who can build me up and talk me down. Float on…
Paul is my uncle he sadly passed away recently and my grandad James Mitchell wrote this song!!
Thank you so much for sharing 😊 You will see him again in the next life trust me. Death is not what we've been taught. Be at peace ❤
My condolences. Thank you for the update. I was a teenager when this song was hot, and it just takes me back to a different time and place. RIP Paul. 💛
💙

💔💔
The 12 minute version of this song is incredible and definitely worth a listen.
Facts! If I’m being honest I love the extended version better
Facts!
Yup that instrumental before the lyrics kick in ✊️
Amen!
Yes!!
OMG I haven't heard this song in 100 million years! These guys were smooooooth with such a smooth song. Such a nice treat to hear this again.
They needed to react to the original extended mix with the long instrumental intro! Next up they need some Stylistics and Blue Magic!!✌️
The first word on my mind was, SMOOTH 😊
Same, haven't heard this since the 70s!
The Good ol 70s AMBER
WAS HUGE in 1977 AMBER
As little kids, we'd always crack up at Larry, practically shouting his line. "CANCER . . . AND MY NAME IS LARRY!" 😄
Love this song.
We did too, lol.
Ha I was a senior in high school it has cracked me up for 46 years🤣
Tell me someone else remembers the Cheech and Chong parody "Bloat On" ... Chow mein and my name is Larry (fart/belch sfx)😂
So awesome you guys did the floaters 👍🏻. They were so smooth
Lol I used to cringe. And still do !
Even after all these years this is still a good song. Brings back so many memories
Terrible world today, that's for sure!
Back in the day for sure. A total groove…💚
“My name is Charles, and I like a woman who’s quiet…”
Yeah, don’t we all…🤣🤣🤣
I bought this in the UK in the glorious Summer of 1977 when still at school. It was No.1 in the UK. I'm sorry, but the single version doesn't do it Justice. The 70s had, without a doubt the GREATEST music!
Correct, the long version is the bomb!
I am loving the big smile on Amber's face while she listens to this and the way that Jay is vibing to it. 🙂
Lol glad you all enjoyed this one. It’s a treat, unfortunately it was their only hit. They really didn’t do much after this. A true one hit wonder.
-xD-
Maybe something to do with their name 😅, they should have stayed around longer after all Floaters are hard to flush .
You need to listen to keep it hot the floaters & shu-ga
Think the name did not help , vaguely lavatorial😊.
Still “floating on” after all these years!!!!! ✌️❤
WOW you guys got to this one, Right On. Now please do The Manhattans "Kiss And Say Goodbye" and The Three Degrees "When Will I see You Again" for some more cool soul music.
Two absolutely great R&B/soul hits. They'll love them both
I was nineteen when this song came out. It was the number one romantic song of 1977. Believe me when I say that a lot of guys got very lucky with this song.😊😘

Summer of 77....year of great movies and great songs.
Cancer, and my name is Larry….this song is on my main playlist…never gets old.
I'm Ray, I'm a Libra. I love a woman who's a little nerdy and outdoorsy.
When this song was out in 1977, it was heard EVERYWHERE! Listen to the longer version, where Paul says "float with Paul, y'all." A true classic. 💛
If you were into R& B you absolutely loved this song. I believe it was their only big hit.
Sadly it was. I wish they were reacting to the longer version. They now need to react to some Stylistics, Blue Magic, and for a slightly different turn, The Blackbyrds and Tavares.
@@seanswinton6242 Yes the long version was played on the radio. The reactors don’t do enough R&B/Soul.
@@seanswinton6242 - I have suggested Tavarez and Stylistics several times. Specially "You make me feel brand new" by the Stylistics.
Who is in for them doing All 4 one, “I swear” or “I can Love you like that”!!
@@lydmarl.475 Agreed.
A return to The Stylistics is called for “You Make me Feel Brand New” 😊
Greatest Love song of ALL!! YOU MAKE MEAN FELL BRAND NEW!
This is one of my favorite songs from the 70’s. It’s so wonderful.
Wow! It's been around 40 years and I still remembered all the words. 🎉😂
All right my babies.... This jam was serious as a heart attack when it came out ‼️💯🔥
I forgot how good this song is.
I know right! I did too.
You did it!! I'm stoked! That was one I suggested a few times. One of my All time favorites! We need more smooth grooves like this today! I'm not into Astrology but I am the sign of Cancer. And I did marry a woman who loves people. Thanks for your reactions!

One hit wonder, from their self titled debut album on ABC records(1977).
Great song from my youth. Please cover Odessey's 'Native New Yorker' and 'Inside Out' you will not be disappointed. 🤔
One hit wonders. They hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1977 with this song.
That's right!!! The summer of 1977 one of my most memorable Summers!!!! Wow!!
Weird, #2! I've never heard this and I listened to all the popular music (played on the local radio) in this era. Though I wonder... Most of my listening to radio as a child was while riding school bus. So maybe this song fell through a summer crack!
This song hit the top of the charts in 77’, brings back so many wonderful memories!
I'm feeling Larry because I'm also a ♋♋: Birthday - 7/21 💖. I love this song (1977), this was back when the pick-up line was, "What's your sign?" 😂😂
Top notch choice and great reaction! Love those t shirts too!👍👍🤟🤟
Love this song! So hypnotic and smooooth 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This song makes me chuckle! It’s cheesy, but in a good way… it’s very groovy! I knew you would love it! Thanks for a great reaction! Love you guys! 💕
-#cheers-- !-
It's not cheesy...it's because the world today is terrible!! Don't vote for Biden!!
OOOOH...YOU HAVE NO IDEA!!! This song did something to the women back then! Try The Moments - With You.
I played this song 24/7 when it came out....and got to see them perform this song on "Soul Train." I take all of those Brothas!!!! Especially "the Leo!!!" Leos are DOPE!!! lol......
Oh my god!!! I love the floaters..I saw them live and they were amazing
This groove just makes you float. This is hand dancing music. You youngins don't know about that!
69 year old white dude that loves the Floaters a long time
I love that y'all loved this song. I've been listening to this for years & it is just as great today as the 1st time I heard it.
Awww... man!! I forgot how much I love this song! We used to sing along to this as kids, emphasizing Larry's part. "Cancer... and my name is Larry!" They sure don't make 'em like this no more. ✊🏾🫶🏽
You guys don’t know how long I have waited for you to react to this!😅
My mom used to tell me and my sisters that even a dumb man wants a smart woman.😂
Giving your star sign was such a seventies thing. People always think their own time is more into astrology than any other time, but I can tell you that the seventies was more filled with astrology references than any era I've lived through. "What's your sign?" was a common pick-up line during the seventies.

Love that. Been out of high school a couple years, in college and we danced and we danced and we danced to that jam. The age of innocence.
This was the song that was usually the last dance at the disco back in the 1970’s and it was a special time as a teenager to have the girl you were after in your arms as this last dance at the end of the night. I’m now 65 years old and still love this song.

And the Portland Tral Blazers were NBA World Champions
If you can't get lucky with that song playing in the background, you don't have a prayer. That was excellent.
Yes! Yes!! Yes!!! All my favorite songs growing up as a child. This is SO SO SO forgotten in the annuls of amazing songs.
One of my favorites in my last year of high school that we sang in a few talent shows. Another good one is the live version is "Gloria" by Enchantment. It's just as smooth!
One of my absolute favorites!
Hello, My name is Lauana. I am a Leo like Amber. My Birthday is July 28th. I will be 63 years young on my birthday and I remember this song very well. Happy upcoming birthday to Amber. Make it great!!! Much ❤
The 12” version of this is 8 minutes long! Marvellous ❤
Yep, your right! It was a very popular pick up line back then.
You two are the most fun when watching these Motown style videos. THANK YOU! _ My wife will love this when she gets home!
I love this song. Sesame Street did a parody of this for the number 5 with Luis, Larry, David and Gordon. I was just a kid when I heard both and had no idea what it was about but that it sounded dreamy and smooth. Lol!

Here are a few more songs released the same year that Float on was release (1977) that you two would truly enjoy:
"Fly Like An Eagle" by The Steve Miller Band
"Free" by Deniece Williams
"Open Sesame" by Kool and the Gang
"I Don't Want To Lose Your Love" by The Emotions
So much fun. My face cracked from smiling so much. #2's falsetto had my jaw on the ground.
Oh, man! This one really brought me back. It was HUGE back in 1977 hitting No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart for several weeks and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Thank you whoever suggested this. I forgot all about it.
Another smooth soul favorite you will love is "I Only Have Eyes For You" by the Flamingos.
I looked at the length of this vid and knew you were doing the short version. This shit is my jam.
you don't need another hit..a true classic..Team Leo rocks
Thanks guys for this late 70s beauty I loved every second of it ❤
The Floaters were a one-hit wonder. 😊👏🏾🎤🎶🎸🎹🥁🛼💯

YES YES YES!
I’m glad you are seeing them perform.
That's a mother
Mother's mother's finest mother's finest that was the name of this grjust like myself. Mother's finest I got a song called
"Special Lady", Ray Goodman and Brown
Best one hit wonder group of all time!! Amazing vocals!!
♌️👍🏾✌🏽
This is one of the greatest recordings ever!! ❤
Such a floaty song! I've always loved this song. 😎
On Saturdays I love singing this song turned up. Haven't heard a song like this ever again. The 12 minute version is the best one. That's the one I jam to.
I remember listening to this as an old 45 EP on a rubbish record player, and it still sounded fantastic! Loved it then, love it now.😊
Loved this when it came out and in 2023, it is STILL the joint!!! I hate the didn't have more songs, but they gave us a timeless classic.
Love, love The Floaters!! Ralph, Charles, Paul and Larry.
My favorite is Larry, my real name. Let me repeat, 70's music was THE best era for music!!👍
When this song came out, me and my girlfriends picked out who we liked based on their voices. I picked Charles because of that falsetto. Good reaction, Guys.❤❤😂😂
You should have done the 11 minute version.
Agreed
They try to keep reactions under 10 minutes. I don't like (so much great stuff they miss) but that's how they roll.
1970's wide collars! The blue reminds me of my 1981 prom tux. They were all great singers in this band and this song always takes me back.
This is one of those songs that was always destined to be parodied, and it was on numerous occasions. I do remember this one from the mid 70's and it was taken quite seriously, at the time. It was only afterwards that it became seen as one of those songs that could be effectively parodied.
When Charles came on and said Libra, she was hooked. She sat back and crossed her legs.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great reveiw as always!
..."Class of 76"...A candle, a bottle of wine, your special lady and this on the record player along with similar albums made for a real nice nite...
Adam Carolla did podcast segments using this song and they are spectacular.
This song is a real piece of music art, unique.
Sounding especially good on a late night medium wave radio show ❤️
Libra and my name is Tina. I think if you enjoyed "Float On", you might also like Rose Royce "I Wanna Get Next to You". Sending good vibes!
Just love when youngins finally hear our music 🎶. You have to listen to the long version 😮
As a kid going to football practice my mother gave all my friends parts for this song and we would sing it everyday on the way to practice. Good times
What a wonderful song I still have this on my Playlist today
Always a classic! One of those songs where you really get to enjoy seeing how reactors handle it.
My name is Jessica and I'm a Gemini. I like somebody who can build me up and talk me down. Float on…
