I remember buying Stench on CD years ago, and being blown away by it. And then I also got the following two albums, but after that I stopped listening to Deicide for some reason. Until now, with the new album Banished, which has renewed my interest immensely. So thanks for the list!
Great ranking, mate. Over the past year I've gotten more into Deicide and I've been listening to the entire discography. Here is my ranking today. The top 3 are tough. I could change my mind on those at any time. Also, loving Banished by Sin. Just what I was looking for from Deicide at this late stage of their career. Great stuff. 1. Once Upon the Cross 2. Legion 3. Deicide 4. The Stench of Redemption 5. Banished by Sin 6. To Hell with God 7. Scars of the Crucifix 8. In the Minds of Evil 9. Overtures of Blasphemy 10. Serpents of the Light 11. Till Death Do Us Part 12. Insineratehymn 13. In Torment in Hell
I’ve literally only started listening to Deicide the last couple of months 😳 Always thought that they were too extreme but really enjoying them now Have legion, once upon the cross and serpents of life Trying to find their debut and the stench of redemption
Book of the dead, pages bound in human flesh Feasting the beast, from the blood the words were said I am unseen, dreamt the sacred passage aloud Trapped in a dream of the Necronomicon!!!!!!!
Probably, even if I were a catholic, I could not restrain myself from listening to this band - one of the true jewels in the classic death metal scene 😉😉
Great vid! seeing Deicide in Sept for the first time! Took them 15 years to come back to my city. First album I got into is Serpents so I am biased towards that one but they have had a hell of a run. Cheers
Good to hear your thoughts on the albums James. Not a band I know too much about apart from the first two, so I've been making some notes. I do have a best of with some of their mid era songs on it so this has given some light on other albums to check out. Nice one.
I had only ever heard their first two albums back in the day, and would agree the Legion album is totally brutal, i will have to check out the rest of their albums,
I've been listening to these guys a lot since the new album came out. I like everything they've done, but they fall like this for me: 1. Once Upon The Cross 2. Legion 3. Deicide 4. To Hell With God 5. The Stench Of Redemption 6. Serpents Of The Light 7. Banished By Sin 8. In The Minds Of Evil 9. Scars Of The Crucifix 10. Overtures Of Blasphemy 11. Insineratehymn 12. In Torment In Hell 13. Till Death Do Us Part Cheers!!
Great ranking I really like the new album alot. The first 4 albums will always be my favorites. Legion was the first album I heard back in 1993 and couldn't believe how evil it sounded. Lol
Hopefuly one day I'll get into the death metal genre. I'll stick with my thrash, heavy and industrial metal for now 🎶. Throughout the video I did seem to recognize some of these artworks 🙂🤘 Cheers James!
Great ranking, very similar to mine's. Deicide weaker albums are the proof that sometimes critics write the reviews too fast, because there's many solid stuff there and they speak pure trash of them.
There's good songs on both Insinerathymn and In Torment In Hell, those albums definitely don't deserve their bad reputations. Cheers for watching fella
Banished By Sin is fucking awesome!! Listening to the first album it feels like you are really connecting to Satan and the Powers of Darkness in its completely insane occult mathematical riffage and lyrics. That album broke down doors in me as a kid that I am not sure was the wisest to break down lmao! Legion similarly had that "oh did I accidentally become in league with Satan by listening to this? Is this opening multi-dimensional doors to the Ancient Ones?" feeling. Once Upon the Cross is more traditional Death Metal but of course with those technical , otherworldly Lovecraftian riffs! Considering how Glen Benton is still sounding today, I have no doubt that the man actually made a pact with Satan hahahaha!!
Brilliant ranking, mate! I really enjoyed this video. Your enthusiasm was palpable with the top 3! Incidentally, they are also my top 3. 'Serpemts...' and 'Scars...' are also underrated albums, and I love that blistering guitar solo at the end of 'The Pentecostal' (or is it the one before it?)!! Cheers!
Haven't listened to a few of the weaker albums in a while, but here's my top 8: 1. Deicide 2. Legion 3. Once Upon the Cross 4. The Stench of Redemption 5. Serpents of the Light 6. Scars of the Crucifix 7. To Hell With God 8. In the Minds of Evil I remember I was really disappointed with Overtures of Blasphemy. Banished by Sin is just okay to me. Insineratehymn, In Torment, Till Death were very forgettable last I listened.
Hi James!!! As you might know i'm not a death metal fan, just listen to a few bands, but still need to digest the style, sound, vocals...... so this is good way to learn more about Deicide and their catalogue, btw thought they are an scandinavian band, lol. cheers and be well
Nice ranking mate my top 3 is the same as yours just in reverse once upon the Cross is still my fave a little story about your bottom two albums the band wrote those so quick in order to get out their contact with roadrunner records
Yeah, I had seen that over the years regarding the bottom 2. They sound like they were just cobbled together. Certainly not worthy of being called terrible albums like some people do though. Cheers Robert, as always fella
Great collection and ranking mate. I do hope they reissue the early ones again individually. My top 3 would be 1. Deicide 2. Serpents 3. Legion That one from the mid 2000s with Santolla on is good le you say. I need to revisit Once Upon its been years i cant remember it at all.
Excellent Deicide ranking, James. A bit surprised that Overtures of Blasphemy is lower in your ranking. No surprise to see Incineratehymn & In Torment in Hell in the bottom.
Brilliant, and man, I am so jealous that you have Legion on vinyl. I can't find it for a decent price anywhere. Any chance of a Gorguts or Immolation ranking in the future?
I'm lucky enough to have 2 copies of Legion on vinyl. I don't have complete discographies of Gorguts and Immolation, but I'll get round to doing them one day. Cheers fella 👍
Great Deicide ranking James! I'm still pretty new to this band, I've only heard bits and pieces from their career. Really cool to see you put Stentch of redemption fairly high, absolutely love Homage for Satan! Must pick up that album. Once upon the cross might be my favourite from what I've heard so far, I really wanna pick up those boxsets of their first 6 albums if I can! Cheers man 😊🤘🤘
Stench of Redemption has well and truly earned its place so high up this list, an outstanding record. The first 2 Deicide records are pretty much untouchable Josh, they make 90% of other Death Metal albums sound very tame in comparison. Cheers as always mate 👍
@@mrboulder9714 Nice that's awesome man, I'm glad you think it's that good! I must check it out in full. And yeah, the first 2 are essential. I have heard the debut but not Legion yet, I've gotta change that! You're welcome mate, as always 😊🤘👍
