Hi, I just want to say I really appreciate your channel and all your hard work. As someone who was a teen in the time you have been covering, it's been fun reliving the past/books I read long ago. Thanks, Salazar! --Dank
I was a kid in '93 and i remember the comics, cartoons, movies, video/arcade games, music, kids social lives being way more fun. We never knew how good we had it even as we knew how awesome and fortunate we were, never expecting things to go so far from great. Wow. What a time..
Just discovered these videos and this channel, I gotta say I love the content you make! It’s like Bat-History class and that’s awesome! Keep up the good work, you earned my subscription!
I was in high school in 93, and that was a whirlwind. Trying to get through junior year, pressure to figure out what I wanted to do with my future, and then DC breaks the Bat. At least we still had Mask of the Phantasm to get us through.
I knew the rope was going to be cut, but when it disappears only to reappear cut and the music followed by it made my heart stop. I'm glad they didn't show the Graysons dying. It causes you to use your imagination.
The Nobody is one of my favourite issues, and thanks for mentioning Turf!! It’s really good and no one ever talks about it, and I was also similarly surprised by how it addressed the themes of racism and brutality so head-on. Also, I didn’t know about that whole Quesada controversy. It’s a shame he didn’t get to draw more Batman, I really like his work on Sword of Azrael.
Thank you for your hard work. I was caught up in the Batmania in the 90s as a growing teen. It's great seeing a solid look at the years of the Bat. He was the character that started my comics collection that's well over 10,000 comics at this point. No joke. Although after this year I have to stop buying single issues. I'll still buy comics in collected forms like omnibuses. I will say the only diamond in the rough that came out of the whole Bloodlines debacle was the stellar series HITMAN by Garth Ennis. And the fact that it was also set in a poor neighborhood in Gotham was even better. The series started as a joke but it turned into something really deep at times. It will make you laugh and cry at times. To me it was worth going through all the Bloodlines to get that series. And thanks for mentioning Kevin Conroy. He will be missed. I'm glad I got to meet him a few years ago. I wanted to meet him a second time and show him my impression of his Batman and Mark Hamill's Joker and ask for advice on voice acting. Would it be ok to leave a link for my impression video on here? As a tribute to Kevin? Keep up the great work Bat-brother.
@@SalazarKnight I've been wanting to do more of a true tribute to Kevin Conroy since he passed, with his iconic lines. Hope to do a video by the end of the month.
I also love how in just about all of the Jones covers featuring Azbats in the mech suit, Batman's feet are obscured cause it's well known Rob Liefeld cannot draw feet. Along with the belt pouch on the leg and shoulder pads lol being direct parody of Liefeld.
I don't know how I didn't see this when it came out, but I'm glad I got to see it. I was under the impression that the first game that had Batman do the wall jump was the 1989 NES game
Hi, I have a question. I've wanted to read many of the more obscure batman stories and runs that you have covered on this channel, especially stuff from the mid-late 80s and early 90s. I prefer getting physical copies of my books, but the trade paperbacks for these issues are very expensive to buy physically. I don't really like reading books digitally, but if that's the only way I can read these stories then I'll deal with it. I was wondering what app you use to read your comics digitally if you do so? Also, I really like your videos. Keep up the good work.
When I was doing videos about the 80s comics, I used Comixology. It was the best way to read those old stories since many haven't been collected or reprinted. Unfortunately Comixology has disappeared and Kindle sucks. The 90s comics are easier to find in collected editions, though some of them are very pricey. And as a last resort, there's always DC Universe Infinite, but their catalogue is lacking in some areas. Still, it's the best way to get single issues without paying for entire omnibuses!
So wen i see the batman houdini comic, i just realized that back then, every elseworlds story of batman in the early XX century theres always a one go to the costume: a leader jacket. I mean gotham by gaslight, the doom that came to gotham, and i tink the one whit Edgar Alan poe too...... yes that a real elseworlds comic to.
@@SalazarKnight Well then you should tell him that he needs to open a RUclips channel urgently, because he doesn’t even realize he has a tremendous speaking voice for narration!
Have you seen the alternate version of the climax of Knightfall? It's a lot of fun and very expressive. ruclips.net/video/HDFaw8pw468/видео.html BTW, great work as always. 🙂
What dosen't work about Batman In Darkest Night being a tribute to Bill Finger is, while he did create Batman, and he created the "Alan Scott" version of Green Lantern, the Green Lantern mythos in, in dakrest night is based more off the Hal Jordan Green Lantern, who was created by John Broome and Gil Kane.
i hate when Robin is portrayed as a kid. it makes no sense that an adult would put a kid in danger. i didn't mind robin growing up watching Batman 66 after school because to me as a little kid, he seemed an adult "sidekick" like Tonto. But now you look at it and its just weird. I don't care how tough or skilled the kid is -- against an adult he will get his ass kicked
What's confusing is Harvey Dent is in the Batman The Animated Series game prior to him becoming Two Face, but Mr.Freeze, Catwoman, The Riddler, and The Penguin all apear in the game, and they deputed after the episode where Harvey becomes Two Face. I know the game was never meant to be cannon, but still.
28:08 I'm disappointed this is _all_ you say about the series. I've heard some good things about it, but skin-tight costume is all the reputation it's allowed. I hate saying that as if you haven't put so much effort into this series, and I'm sorry about that; I just found this annoying.
I get it. I had planned a whole video for that series, which is why I didn't go into much detail about it here. I just haven't got around to make the video yet, but it's definitely in the future plans. So yeah, I didn't mean to reduce all the greatness of that series to a short and negative description. Sorry.
@@SalazarKnight Dang, I haven't been getting notified about replies. Just wanted to say I do still appreciate the videos and all you put into them. It's cool getting to see a glimpse of all these stories I'd never heard of, and a closer look at ones I've heard of but haven't read. I only found your channel a few days ago and have been binging it in my free time.
Minor correction: The jumping mechanic in Batman videogames first appeared in the 1989 NES Batman videogame. Sorry for any confusion, folks.
dude ur so accurate holy fuck I was just boutta say that
for such a minor error It's cool you corrected it nice one
When Superman was killed, I cried. When Batman was broken, I was pissed!
R.I.P Kevin Conroy ✊

Another fantastic video! Loving the new format, still the best Batman channel on RUclips!
Awesome video 🤙 love 90s Batman
These videos really remind you how great the Batman media was in the early 1990s. I need to get the Mask of the Phantasm on 4K.
Love the channel man. This era of bat comics was so incredible in how cohesive it was, whatever you think of knightfall.
I’d love to see this documentary about the 90s Batman continue all through to the 2000
Who thought current Bruce Wayne would be more like Azrael now?
Amazing tribute, it's great to see you back!
By far your videos are the most insightful and informative videos on batman on RUclips. Thank you for these vids!
Your vids are always great, well scripted and presented. I'm not a mega-Batfan but you obviously are and it makes the material very involving.
Still waiting for them to make an animated portrayal of Knightfall like they did DKR
Batman #490 was my first comic book with Batman ever. It was 1995 and it all starts.

1993 produced my two favorites:
Mask of the phantasm
&
KNIGHTFALL 🖤
gameboy batman wasnt the first batman game with wall jumping, its directly lifted from the sunsofts nes game released 3 years earlier
Great video sal,Keep it up!

Not going to lie, Robin's Reckoning is my favorite B:TAS episode of all time!

same!

BATMAN on the NES had wall jumping in 1990 hey...
You're absolutely right! My bad there.
I have never heard of Grendle before in my life.
Jason David Frank just passed away today 😢
That's terrible news. Gone way too soon :(

What is "Wallscalerbatman"? Or who is he? Where can I find more of him? Googling the name doesn't result in anything.
