The Black Pro Mist Glimmer Glass filter looks awful. It looks like you ate (vegan) KFC and then smudged the lens. It's the ChickenGlassFilterTM. The X3000 is nice otherwise, the DJI is beautiful
It took this many years for current action cams to out perform the x3000, but still only better by a hair. It was way ahead of it's time, Sony needs to make an updated version.
Your Gopro's WindSlayer cover the best part of DJI Osmo Action 4 - Color temperature sensor in hole of letter "O". For reducing of wind sound you need small dead cats parts lubed on microphone holes.

The sensor size comparison at the end is interesting. I mean, sure, EIS means they have to crop a lot. OIS might be too prone to mechanical damage when having a bumpy ride. Still, the quality is good even with that heavy crop. I wish they would make compact cameras again, with 4K60, so we have to stick to action cams.
Damn it, Kasey, stop making complete sense and telling the truth! God, I hate that. Don't you know that everyone wants the function of an $8,000 Full Frame camera with a high-end large lens in a tiny, lightweight, completely waterproof body, that can do close-ups w/ perfect bokeh, AND must have easy-to-edit 10-bit 8K to infinity, in a body that is also 100% BOMBPROOF, plus can run over an hour in an oven set at 300°F, all for less than $500! Sounds simple to me, despite the physics and laws of nature involved! C'mon DJI and GoPro, just make it. We're waiting impatiently! (Great vid, as always, sir!)
I give the DJI 4 an ovation for what they have done, I like the colour science. Really close call on all 3 cameras TBH. Not owned a action cam, never needed one. But I find the information and actually side by side comparisons fascinating! Sony must have used their time machine to go into the future to pull off the X3000. Always great show when you have a street crossing and an angry dad walk in the same video!
Kasey, that lovely red car near the beginning is a Jaguar E-type FHC or Fixed Head Coupé, as opposed to the roadster convertible. In the USA (and perhaps Canada) it was known as the XK-E.
The official apple USB C to TRS works and is fairly cheap, about £8 here in the UK from Amazon (when I last purchased one). Oh and that's with a super cheap Lav mic.

Ok…I’m just waking up and was easily fooled at the beginning. How did you do it? Did I miss that…simply crop in? Love our 3000 and in watching on a small screen very difficult to see any difference. Great examples of actual sensor usage! Surprised me at how much larger (2x) the OA4 was in likely use. Thank you for that! I still tend to prefer the look of the GoPro video most often (very slightly) and the slightly narrower FOV. I’d buy either…and the 12 largely the same as the 11 (albeit I like the screw mount).

youtube compresses video so bad, that it does not even matter at this point. They all look the same on youtube.. Just buy one with 3.5mm mic connection and that is all that matters at this point :D
You can get these very small, stick-on "dead cats" for tiny microphones. I bought a couple on Amazon that turned out to be way too small for the ZV-1, so they should be perfect for your DJI
Btw, you should get and order USB C to TRS from Hollyland, sound very very impressive and clear IMO, I'm using Rode Wireless Go in my OA4, rather than using TRS to TRRS from Rode, sound quality really terrible.
One annoying thing is the Custom modes are called C1, C2, C3, I would like to be able to name these to what I want, and yes the file naming is very annoying
Hey Kasey, why not just use whichever camera you want, get a Zoom F2 with 32 bit float audio and a lavalier, then just hit record on both and go. Sync automatically in post and you're good to go. Sure it's more steps but it's reliable as hell.
Are you insane? lol. For sit down videos with 1 take, sure. For vlogging around town where I turn the camera on and off like 30 times to record various scenes, syncing audio would be a nightmare.
By the way, Danny Black just posted a very interesting video in which he discovered that the GoPro Hero 12 can now use BOTH of the built-in microphones on the Media Mod at the same time. Previously, with the Hero 9, 10, and 11, you could only use one of the mics at a time. You had to choose whether you wanted to use the front-facing mic or the rear-facing mic. And switching from one to the other was a pain. But with the Hero 12, there is now a setting in which both microphones are being recorded at the same time. I was just thinking that when you get your hands on the Hero 12 and were doing audio tests and comparisons, you might want to include the Media Mod built-in shotgun mics. Now that both mics can be on at the same time, the audio could be much improved.
I'm definitely one of those people that would leave a comment saying that the video samples all look fuzzy, soft, and out of focus. 🙂 I guess the Glimmer Glass effect is a personal preference, but when I watch your review videos, I find myself constantly trying to focus my eyes to get the video to look right. For me, the combination of the Glimmer Glass and lowering the sharpness and whatever other settings you change make the GoPro and Action footage look like it was taken with a cheap point-and-shoot camera from twenty years ago or a home movie camera from the sixties. I honestly don't see what you see. The video looks out of focus and all the color and brightness has been drained out of the world. To my eyes, it doesn't look natural at all. But I guess that's a personal preference. I'm also not sure that the comparisons you've done here are of much use. You incorporate so many of your own changes to the base cameras that I have to adjust everything in my head to try to understand what the reality is. The weight comparison is a good example. Your GoPro setup came to nearly twice the weight of the Action. But nearly all of that extra weight was the Ulanzi G9-5 metal cage. At nearly 200 grams, it weighs more than the GoPro camera itself. And I assume the rest of the extra weight is the Glimmer Glass filter. And there is no need to use that stuff. Ulanzi also makes the plastic G9-4 cage. It does the same thing as the G9-5 but weighs only 40 grams. If you use the G9-4, your GoPro setup weight would drop by 160 grams right there. And the G9-4 has superior door design. I also don't know why reviewers normally use the ultrawide settings on the action cameras when they compare them. Very few people would ever use those settings when vlogging with these cameras. It introduces far too much distortion and makes everything look weird. I think the Superview setting on the GoPro is meant for extreme cases when you're skateboarding or paragliding or whatever. For vlogging, the vast majority of people would use Linear or Wide. Anyway, those are a couple of my thoughts. I know your videos are meant more for comedy than anything else and they aren't serious camera comparisons. If it was meant seriously, you wouldn't include a lowlight comparison section in which one camera is set to 800 ISO and the other one to 12,800. But when you talked about how some people were going to leave comments about the video being out of focus, I thought I should rise to the challenge and leave one of those comments. 😀 And it's an honest one. I've always disliked the Glimmer Glass low sharpening unsaturated look of your videos. To my eyes, it looks far worse than untouched SOOC video from these cameras.
#1 test - I still own the Sony 3000 & I own the GoPro 11 & 12 - the big difference is the picture quality when using the GoPro 12 with HDR - plus I just ordered the GoPro Lens Mod 2 that will give me 177degrees wide - #1
Lol, so freaking wide you can't hide...but I think the DJI linear looks fine for a camera of that size and a small screen in the front. Not bad at all.
The mic jack on the FDR-X3000 (or AS300) is and has always been way too hot. And the USB audio on the DJI Action 2, Osmo Action 3 and Osmo Action 4 has been a non-issue from day 1, as long as you buy the right audio adapter. If you use the Saramonic SR-C2001, Røde AI-Micro or DJI Mic wireless system, you even get stereo mic input.
The two main things I prefer about the Action 4 over the Hero 10/11/12 is the magnetic mounting system right out of the box and the lack of need for a media mod/chunky adaptor for audio. Using the DJI mic (usb receiver) is just so easy and neat, and the mounting system means you can go between loads of different mounts so quickly. You don't need to undo a media mod when you need to change the battery or get the SD card out either. The GoPro basic design just feels dated now and they're not addressed the flaws.
There is another bad thing for DJI. WIth my 11 and the media mod, I can have an external mic AND power the camera via power bank in the same time ! You can't have that on the DJI
Action 4 is netter than the GP 11 in almost every way. I don't randomly run across the street in slo-mo, so I don't are about 240fps in 2.7K either! The Action 3 silicon rubber lens cap fits the Action 4. And Freewell has a 6 filter set for the Action 4. Keep up to date!
@@cameraconspiracies They make more than lens caps: 4 grades on ND, CPL, etc.. And there's a reason aslmost nobody makes mist filters for action cams... Because you're just about the only person who wants one!

Dude what are you talking about. I have the action 4 right now and if you unscrew the waterproof filter it came with there are threads for other filters. I’ve even seen some filters that fit over top the waterproof filter. As for recording external audio. Well you don’t need any crazy adapter. Any usb c microphone will work. The DJI wireless mic is plug and play. There are also several cafes made for the action 4
@@cameraconspiracies hmm well that’s interesting. Not saying your wrong just haven’t had that experience. It is a brand new camera so give it time for the filters to come to market and software bugs to be fixed so all usb c mics work.

Your coverage on sensor usage is a home run. I've never seen anyone cover this. I had an Action 4 and returned it because the footage looked terrible to me, worse than video from my phone. I can now understand maybe why that is. I was always using the dewarp with stab so ya, not using the full sensor. Thank you!
Is it possible that you could use your "RUclipsr magic" to suggest to Panasonic to embed gyro data into their metadata like Sony/RED/Blackmagic currently do? There's a software called gyroflow that's fucking awesome but it needs gyro data to work. I'd love to use an S5ii or G9 ii with it

I did a video comparing the Action 3 to the x3000 and the Sony killed it when it comes to audio. I hear the action 4 has better gain adjustment for external mic. So if you want to lend me the 4 to continue my tests, that would be paying it forward. 😊. Great review!
That distortion on the Go-Pro is abysmal. Much nicer picture on the DJI. Plus I detest Go-Pro based on my past experiences so unless they were so far ahead of the competition I would never consider them again
Action 4 is better in every way, longer run times, better heat dissipation, fast charge, better low light and overall reliability that your files won't go corrupt or the camera freeze on you while filming. There is no competition with the Gopro 11 or 12.
I think they’re comperable. Which one fails more is the #1 factor. In that regard seems dji and Sony are very good. Gopros are so unreliable. Inexcusable for action camera
Sony X3000 is the only camera in the world with a 3,5 mic jack which does not work, it is always clipping and they know it since 1966 and did nothing about it.
Yeah but it looks pretty fragile and this is an action camera first and foremost. Looks very precarious to the point of not worth trying. For vlogging it's probably absolutely fine though
@@markylon my mics use 3.5mm jacks, not USB. The Hero 8 is very unreliable. I've lost files or sound multiple times. Kasey has had no problems with the Hero 11 and the Hero 12 can shoot LOG, among other improvements. I did get the 12 and so far, so good.

@@filipprucnal I had one issue of lost sound. I don't know if the jack was loose on my Media Mod or not. It's otherwise been really good. It tends to back-focus just slightly but it's not noticeable.

Although I like the mist filter on the GoPro image, there is less lens distortion with the DJI which I like.

Gopro was in open gate, so it's going to look wider in side by sides due to its taller sensor.

I've always disliked the Glimmer Glass low sharpening unsaturated look of your videos. To my eyes, it looks far worse than untouched SOOC video from these cameras.

Lol, so freaking wide you can't hide...but I think the DJI linear looks fine for a camera of that size and a small screen in the front. Not bad at all.

The mic jack on the FDR-X3000 (or AS300) is and has always been way too hot. And the USB audio on the DJI Action 2, Osmo Action 3 and Osmo Action 4 has been a non-issue from day 1, as long as you buy the right audio adapter. If you use the Saramonic SR-C2001, Røde AI-Micro or DJI Mic wireless system, you even get stereo mic input.
Exactly. You can literally direct plug in the DJI mic wireless system.

The two main things I prefer about the Action 4 over the Hero 10/11/12 is the magnetic mounting system right out of the box and the lack of need for a media mod/chunky adaptor for audio. Using the DJI mic (usb receiver) is just so easy and neat, and the mounting system means you can go between loads of different mounts so quickly. You don't need to undo a media mod when you need to change the battery or get the SD card out either. The GoPro basic design just feels dated now and they're not addressed the flaws.
There is another bad thing for DJI. WIth my 11 and the media mod, I can have an external mic AND power the camera via power bank in the same time ! You can't have that on the DJI

So what I am hearing is, x3000 with external recorder/lav mic.
I think the Low Light mode on Action 4 can only work up to 30FPS and only up to Rocksteady. DJI Mic is the best solution for the sound.

Action 4 is netter than the GP 11 in almost every way. I don't randomly run across the street in slo-mo, so I don't are about 240fps in 2.7K either!
The Action 3 silicon rubber lens cap fits the Action 4. And Freewell has a 6 filter set for the Action 4. Keep up to date!
I'm not looking for a lens cap, I want mist filters. Freewell doesn't make those.
@@cameraconspiracies They make more than lens caps: 4 grades on ND, CPL, etc.. And there's a reason aslmost nobody makes mist filters for action cams... Because you're just about the only person who wants one!

Dude what are you talking about. I have the action 4 right now and if you unscrew the waterproof filter it came with there are threads for other filters. I’ve even seen some filters that fit over top the waterproof filter. As for recording external audio. Well you don’t need any crazy adapter. Any usb c microphone will work. The DJI wireless mic is plug and play. There are also several cafes made for the action 4
There are no mist filters. Not all of those adapters work, my first one didn't and many usbc mics didn't.

Your coverage on sensor usage is a home run. I've never seen anyone cover this. I had an Action 4 and returned it because the footage looked terrible to me, worse than video from my phone. I can now understand maybe why that is. I was always using the dewarp with stab so ya, not using the full sensor. Thank you!
Very true, it also gives us a good argument to use a gimbal for stabilization vs hypersmooth/rocksteady.
Is it possible that you could use your "RUclipsr magic" to suggest to Panasonic to embed gyro data into their metadata like Sony/RED/Blackmagic currently do? There's a software called gyroflow that's fucking awesome but it needs gyro data to work. I'd love to use an S5ii or G9 ii with it

Well, neither of them have the 1" sensor we've been asking for, how many years now.?! So I don't care which baby sensor cam is better, I ain't spending a dime on either one.

I did a video comparing the Action 3 to the x3000 and the Sony killed it when it comes to audio. I hear the action 4 has better gain adjustment for external mic. So if you want to lend me the 4 to continue my tests, that would be paying it forward. 😊. Great review!

That distortion on the Go-Pro is abysmal. Much nicer picture on the DJI. Plus I detest Go-Pro based on my past experiences so unless they were so far ahead of the competition I would never consider them again

Sony has the technology to crush the action cam competition, give us the camera we want and need, the Sony 4000!
Action 4 is better in every way, longer run times, better heat dissipation, fast charge, better low light and overall reliability that your files won't go corrupt or the camera freeze on you while filming. There is no competition with the Gopro 11 or 12.
Yep the Osmo just works, that alone puts it miles ahead of any GoPro model.

I think they’re comperable. Which one fails more is the #1 factor. In that regard seems dji and Sony are very good. Gopros are so unreliable. Inexcusable for action camera

390 grams for the Gopro is the same weight as the ZV-E1 body

Sony X3000 is the only camera in the world with a 3,5 mic jack which does not work, it is always clipping and they know it since 1966 and did nothing about it.
Panasonic G85 couldn't be lowered enough for a lot of mics.

The DJI's USB port is a no-sale for that alone. I'll go for a Hero 11; or better, yet, a 12 to replace my Hero 8. It's been a long time.

@@markylon my mics use 3.5mm jacks, not USB. The Hero 8 is very unreliable. I've lost files or sound multiple times. Kasey has had no problems with the Hero 11 and the Hero 12 can shoot LOG, among other improvements. I did get the 12 and so far, so good.

@@filipprucnal I had one issue of lost sound. I don't know if the jack was loose on my Media Mod or not. It's otherwise been really good. It tends to back-focus just slightly but it's not noticeable.
