Thanks for taking an in-depth look at HERO12 Black. We're just as stoked about HDR as you🔥
Please stop making tiny meaningless updates and fix the horrible bugs. The small things go unnoticed when the camera is unusable die to constant freezing of button feedback
I always watch your videos before I buy something for my overseas rural travels. I was thinking of upgrading to 12 from 11 black, after this video, I do not see why. You save me time and money.
Great video! Been looking for an upgrade to my GoPro cams, and this was very informative to help me on my decision-making process. My GoPro 7 has been my flagship for a while but is definitely time no upgrade!
i love this channel! I just found you today and i need all the knowledge! Thank you so much
Thanks once again for the great information.
Great comparison video!! I’d say it’s the best comparison video I’ve seen in months and I’ve seen a ton! Thanks for even taking it underwater🌊Thanks to you, I’m gonna go with the 12🥰
Thank God the world has video producers like you. After watching half a dozen disappointing comparison videos I was disheartened. HDR will always depend upon the subject being recorded. All HDR does is push the contrast scale edges out further. Most people historically haven't like that because it tended to blow out the lighting on the video subject and make portraits contraty. Pro's tend to like it, amateurs not. I've spent a lot of time with photographs and modifying contrast ranges (in the dark room), and the things pros would go after, amateurs would avoid. So these cameras can only record for 30 minutes? What a complete waste of time!!! I'm not going to shoot 5 to 10 minutes at a time and adjust my activity around the cameras DEFICIENCY. This is an absurd problem to have. You have convinced me to NOT use ANY Gopro. If I shoot a bicycle run, it may go 2.5 hours. 5-10 minutes. Absurd.
There aren’t many action cameras which can record 5.3k 60fps for 2.5 hours, if any at all. I do agree that 30 minutes maximum is pretty bad.
Very nice comparisons
Thanks for the great content as always. I found your channel last year when I was researching which action camera to purchase and your content really helped me! I'm also a professional photographer, but at the time I knew almost nothing about video. Ended up getting the GoPro Hero 11 Black and it was a great purchase. I have had so much fun with this camera and learned so much!
Anyhow I just wanted to leave you a message to thank you for the great content and keep up the great work!
That’s so great to hear. Thank you so much for watching 🙏
Fantastic comparison! Super helpful :)
Finally a good practical, depth review without any unnecessary attitude 🥰
Thank you so much for this video! We’ve been rocking the 8 for a long time now 😬
Time for an upgrade!
Hero 13 should be coming in September-hold off a bit longer if you can!
Great comparison. Many THX . Greeting from Berlin.😁
Thanks for the video that made me understand the gopro 12 camera🎉😊❤
I love your videos and as a business man I rarely have free time to surf the web for info on stuff so I just buy or don’t buy what you say. Thanks again!
Loved the comparison. Very detailed and precise. Thank you for sharing this information.
thank you. i have a Gopro Hero 8 black and i was wondering if the 11 or 12 was better
Awesome and thank you!!!
Love that in GoPro Labs we can set the GoPro to generate Davinci Resolve or Premiere Pro proxy files and structures automatically. We can also record in a High Bitrate of 200Mbps. That, and the fact Hero 11 has GPS is why I bought it instead of the GP12 or OA4.
What's the need for GPS?
Is it more for people racing cars or motorbikes, or touring/ mountain trekking?
@@spirittravels.I go spearfishing. If I take a photo with the Hero 10 or 11 I can see later how far I swam from shore, distance, a good spot on the map. I don’t take my phone in the water. Or if you are driving. You pass by an interesting spot. You will have the location coordinates later on.
@@stefpix Thanks. But don't you have to buy software to be able to do that? Or not.
Cheers.
The lack of GPS is the reason why this time I stay with my 11
Thank you very much for your video. I was able to make up my mind to go with a second-hand Hero 11 instead of going for Hero 12.
I might change H11 to H12 due to HDR, sometimes battling against light burns in post is a headache and that Max lens mod 2.0 would be sweet. I like my Insta360 one X2 but the pov "single lens" quality is not the best on big screen. X2 is best when you can shoot your self with super wide view to keep the quality.
Excellent video. Like your video... I got a GoPro Hero 12. Will you be doing a video on GoPro Hero 12 Best Settings to get good quality videos and photos? Thanks :)
Hello Suzie… I just got my Hero 10 Black which I’ll be using for daily vlogging… does the Hero 12 differ that much? Or am I great until the next GoPro?
I’m new to GoPro and I’m gonna get the 11. Thank you for your informative vids!
Aloha~ yes i am re-learining setup list since it is new upgrade settings comapre to my gp9 and gp10blk..so far no problems...my biggest worry is the battery overheating...does anyone know if recording on normal sunny day on 4k60 how long does avg enduro bettery last? Mahalo!
I upgrade everyear and just one future I think it's great for upgrade. You don't have to move camera for 9:16 Shorts or TikTok. It's awesome
Thanks for the video!
Question - after I record a long video with the Hero 12 and plug camera into computer and download the files that way, I cannot open the long videos no matter which mp4 reader I use. I get an error message saying file might be corrupt. The short videos do not have this problem.
If I take the micro SD card out of camera and put into an SD card reader then save files to computer, they open just fine.
Does anybody else have this issue with long videos, 20 minutes and longer?
GoPro has the worst support and been trying for the last 30 days to get help with this but cannot.
Great video 🎉
As always, fantastic comparison! Can I ask, the screw you use looks interesting, what's this called? Is it official GoPro? I struggle with the traditional screw when hands are cold!
Thanks Steve! It’s the extra long thumb screw by Snap Mount. I find it’s much easier to grip than the regular length thumb screws.
Hello, will the protective case of the hero10 and 11 fit the Hero12?
In low light quality, its mentioned the quality is about the same, however on the video it appears quite some difference. On the left side, the bin and car and the wall on the right appears to show substantially more detail on the 12. Or are these just focusing issue on the day?
(btw, I've set the YT video to max quality available to me @2160p4k). So not sure
I have GP11 no media mod… heard now media mod supports front and rear mic.. but does the sound on the media mod really sound better than without? Not sure worth the investment to upgrade for family videos. Not a huge fan of a big mic, especially for quick pocket storage. 😃
What was your conclusion on battery life? Aside from them overheating, which doesn’t relate to battery life, did the batteries last longer in the 12 vs the 11? If so, how much longer? How much more recording were you able to achieve on a single battery? Thx.
Thank you for this Video and your great work. I'm a GoPro user since the Hero 3. The hero 11 is my last one. In my opinion it's time to take a look around the camera market. Greetings again from Germany 🇩🇪
Take a look at the DJI Osmo Action 4. It’s a great competing product. I’m working on the comparison video right now.
The OA4 is a great camera. If my Hero 9 or 11 one day quit the job I could be one of these. A interesting question is: if you livestream with to Hero 9 and 11 over the quick App, the gopro don't accept a external microphone. Why is it so and Does the H12?
any idea how to overlay garmin cycling stats over gopro videos? is that possible??
I am still using the Hero 10, and I am not even considering upgrading to either the 11 or 12. It is just not worth it, for me, at least. Let's hope next year the 13 has some mind-blowing new features. The 10 is still good enough for most use cases, in my opinion.
I have both the 10 and the 11. They are basically the same camera for my use. Apart the almost square still photos. And the enduro battery, which is much better than the standard blue one.
The Hero 10 and 11 are still solid cameras. I think you’re right to wait until the Hero 13 or above before upgrading.
Always loved your videos !
Was very happy with my Hero 4 for a long time. Upgrading now and I'm trying to decide if the 12 is worth the extra money over the 11. The missing GPS is a bummer...
I've seen HDR make a big difference in night shooting in other reviews. Would be cool to see you try it. Also, action 4 comparison if you have the time and camera.
Working on the Action 4 vs Hero 12 comparison right now. Thanks for the HDR night shooting tip! I’ll be doing a dedicated GoPro low light shooting video and will test that out.
Using a xiaomi 13 ultra for night shots is better than gopro 12 on any condition
Hero 12 vs DJ Action 4 review please. You are my guide to the right path ❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Working on it! Coming next week.
Excellent video, thanks! When you say the Max Lens Mod 2.0 doesn't work on the GP11, does that mean NOTHING works, or just not the enhancements for the GP12? Do you know if GoPro will make a software upgrade for the GP11 to enable the use of the Max Lens Mod 2.0? The reason I ask I'd like to buy just one and not have to buy the second one when I upgrade to GP12 in the future. Thanks!
gopro doesn't really like to firmware update their older cameras. this forces consumers to buy the newest camera. so i don't think they'll have a software update for anything before the 12.
thanks@@BryanMiraflor
Nicely done, but often I thought the 11 video looked better. 12 seemed too dark to me, at least side by side, but not something I had seen on other reviews. Maybe settings or shady locations? Great advice btw.
Location and time of day/weather can definitely impact overall brightness. I tried to shoot in a variety of conditions, but mainly high contrast to test HDR and Log.
I thought the same
I still have the Hero 8 Black
Does the job just fine
These “upgrade pushes” are crazy and generally sponsered
10:05 Thanks for the review. What is going on with the tree in the right? This happened in the raw footage or it was Davinci stabilization?
I was hoping that the overheating had an improvement, it seems that they not really care.
I didn’t apply any stabilization in post production, but I don’t see that happening in the raw footage, so might be some glitch that happened in the editor.
@@Gemini_Connect well it happens. Do you have plans to review the QooCam3?
It would be awesome to see the 10/11/12 compared to the DJI 3 and 4.
They overall seem like a better choice, especially in ease of use, batterys and reliability.
But a comparison of all images would be nice for finding the right one for your needs
Working on DJI OA4 vs Hero 12 video! Should be out later this week.
I'm sold on the Hero 12. If you look around, you can find an open box version for 300-50 bucks already! 👍📸
Yeah, I’ve heard! It’s crazy how this camera got leaked and put on the used market so quickly.
Super good review! I'm not sure it's worth moving the Hero 12 for me. I have the Hero 8 and think I'll get the Hero 11 on sale at Costco
Nice, I’m still on Hero7 which we just dragged around South Africa for two weeks, I was really feeling the need for an upgrade. Stabilization must be great on this as I couldn’t see your teeth chattering at all when you jumped into Lake Washington. Lol
Does the Insta360 70cm/27.56in Invisible Selfie Stick fit the GoPro Hero 12 without an attachment? (screws in the bottom?)
Yes it does! Such a nice feature. But you may want to add a ball head or something if you want to reposition it.
I have a Hero9 Black, and I was going to get a new 11 on sale at Costco. I record video bicycle rides about 1-2 hours in length. Do you think I will have overheating issues? This is a dealbreaker.
I haven’t had overheating issues on any GoPro. But I also don’t film longer than 10 minutes at a time.
What do you think would be a better choice for my first GoPro camera, Hero 11 or 12? I'm primarily going to use it for a filming my hiking trips.
Gopro 12
i have the same question, what did you end up on, and why? i am going to use it for hiking and maby fishing.
@@mikkel1470 unfortunately life got in the way and I ended up not getting any camera. Sorry.
@@ChristopherDwane thats ok😀Hope you are doing well!
Not much of a leap, and still, the overheating issue persists. Given most folk watch youtube on their phones, I think 4k is wasted. HDR can be a hit or miss, and the Max lense usefulness is debatable as I never used mine with the GoPro 11. The leap really comes via the ability to use wireless earbuds with the gopro 12, which would save a fortune buying Rode wireless mics. However, the sound quality wasn't that great going by your test, so would need these tested with other brands of wireless earbuds. Gopro should have waited, and they need to try and utilise the technology and software appearing in phones now to really make giant leaps in the action camera market. Overall great review and tests. AtB.
The Max Hyperview on the Max Lens Mid 2.0 is another great feature if you have the need for ultra wide shots. And I like the idea of using Bluetooth mics with the camera, but it’s definitely a technology that they need to build on and improve in the future.
Thanks for taking the plunge fir the sake if the video! Ata girl! Just received my Hero 11. Upgraded from Hero 9. In the woods, I don’t think the difference is noticeable. Overall i think the 12 is worth it. Some of the new features especially nice. As a true capitalist, the best part is…. Now how will dji top the 12. Competitors are great for consumers. Nice comparison!
The Hero 13 and Osmo Action 5 will be an interesting showdown! I’ve heard the GoPro Max 2 is also on the way and will be even better than the Hero 12 😍
@@Gemini_Connect i have a special knack for bad timing. Just sent my GP Max to be replaced. Would rather use my $ to get something better. Just got a new GP11 last week (but not thinking 12 that much better). I do have insta 360 1” will start using in Tokyo for night shooting. But kicking myself for not get I360 Go3. It has tremendous application use… but no 4K issue. When will the Holy Grail (the complete camera) be available? Haha!
I used gopro 10, 11 and now 12, never had a problem with the heating. I use for cycling , even in 30’ C in Teneriffe and never had problems. Is an action camera so it will be fine if you are actually using it for some action. Low light I don’t care as if I am in holiday and is evening I will use my iphone. So yeah a few of the critics that the camera gets from most reviewers are a bit pointless. For me is still one that does the job , very clear and easy and not afraid of it getting destroyed or anything like that.
I have ordered a 12 ". It will be my first GoPro. My use for the camera will be mounting on a tractor so I fear overheating will happen if shooting over 1080. I bought a 1tb card and the side door charger. I am going to try mounting the top of the cab outside. If overheating is an issue trying to film 4 to 6 hours at a time I will move in the cab and point an AC vent on it. Perhaps there are better cameras on the market that are better suited for this type of filming.
Congratulations on your first purchase. Make sure you use Sandisk Extreme Pro micro sd card to avoid overheating issue.
Interesting…I hadn’t heard about the SD card making a difference. FWIW, I tested with a SanDisk card in the Hero 12 and a Samsung card in the Hero 11.
I have the hero 10 and 11. Apart from the almost square photos I see no difference. The enduro batteries seem to last longer without swelling after 1 year like the standard blue battery.
I could use the hero 10 or 11 interchangeably. The lack of gps in the hero 12 is a bit of a bummer. Log seems interesting for high contrast situations. Does the 12 also have flat color mode? Or only log and standard? The log mode could be likely implemented on the 10 and 11 via firmware updates.
The Hero 12 does have a flat color profile option. Others have mentioned that Log can be implemented in the Hero 11 via GoPro Labs.
@@Gemini_Connect thanks. I will check if it works also on the Hero 10. It may be useful in murky water, when it is dim at the bottom.
Log profiles do not work on the 10 :( only 11 and 12.
@@davidlong8500 anyway, I doubt there is much of a dynamic range improvement between log and flat, given the small sensor
would love to see a osmo 3 vs 4 video with honest review, if worth upgrading.
If you shoot a lot in low light, I’d say it’s worth it. The bigger sensor on the Action 4 really shines in low light. I also like the new option to shoot in D-Log M. Other than that, it’s pretty similar to the OA3.
@@Gemini_Connect thank you for the quick response
Great video.
What are your opinions on the hero 10?
It's on offer at £100 cheaper than the Hero 11.
Or is the 11 worth paying extra for?
Cheers 👍
The Hero 10 is a great camera, in my opinion. I am still using it, and it is more than sufficient for my needs. I will wait for the 13 to come out.
I have the 10 and 11, they are basically the same camera for my use. The enduro battery is a lot better than the blue standard battery. The difference is the almost square sensor and still photos. Gps is sometimes nice to have.
@@stefpix Thanks.
I notice some people saying the Hero 11 captures more details. Is that true?
Cheers.
@@jaco_oosthuizenThanks
@@stefpixCheers 👍
Do you think the 11 will get the live preview in and update?
I hope so, but not certain. I heard that they removed it for a legal issue. Not sure how exactly they resolved it for the Hero 12.
@Gemini_Connect Thank you. Was hoping since in 12 maybe resolve but we will see.
Just a quick note.
The Hero 11 & Hero 12 use exactly the same image sensor. That’s why you can’t tell the difference in image quality, as it’s the same.
HDR & Log on the Hero 12 are the differentiators.
Thanks - I should have added that as a note. I wanted to see video clips side by side anyway to confirm the image quality similarities.
But you get log on the 11 using Labs
I got my first one yesterday. I am still trying to open the battery door. help
Hmm…should just pop open if you use your fingers to pull down on the latch.
They are really tight when they are new. Use your thumbnail and push down firmly. It will pop off.
goPro internal microphone sounds good then airbud
i live in the Philippines, quite too hot here compare to your country, buy i haven't experience any overheating issue with my hero 11 :D
I can record 4k 60fps vids for 1 hour straight.
gopro 4 and 8 battery life was around 50 minutes =/ sad to hear the battery life of the new gopros, review was awesome, thanks
I NEED SOME HELP. I am going to buy 11 or 12. and honestly, i dont think that i have so much use for the upgrade.
i am going to use the gopro when hiking, fishing and maby freediving. The problem i have is that i dont really know how much i am going to use log and HDR. And when it comes to the wide camera stuff, i mean that not alot of people have 4k or 5k monitors, so am i going to have use for the upgrade from 11 to 12 camera quality? I dont really care about the prize difference, just think that i can get a tripod with the 11 and still be under the prize of the 12. If someone can give me some answer, then i would be very happy😃
If you don’t think you’ll use log and HDR, stick with the 11. Or wait til September for the Hero 13/cheaper price on the 12.
Oddly enough, i felt like they were very similar and in some cases... i thought the 11 was a better image/video than the 12.
thanks for the video. i returned the hero 11 due to the fact that it overheated in 90 degree weather in 15 minutes. is this normal for a go pro?
It won’t last long in 90 degree weather. The longer battery run time they claim was in testing conditions of ~77 degree F weather.
I am still more than satisfied with the footage I'm shooting with my beloved Hero 8!
Fair enough. That was a great camera. I didn’t like how the front filter wasn’t able to be removed though.
I've been shooting a docuseries with it and finally acknowledged that the built-in mic SUCKS (have had to do a ton of eq'ing to eliminate/reduce wind noise), so I recently purchased a Media Mod and wireless mics with wind screens and will be putting them to use in the next couple of days.@@Gemini_Connect
How are your roads that smooth!
I know where the good roads are in my city 😉
As you know, one can do log profiles on the 11 with GoPro labs so upgrading to 12 because of log is not a reason to do so.
Fair point. I tried Labs in the past and had a hard time removing it from my camera, so I personally prefer to wait until those features officially roll out. But yes, it’s available for those willing to experiment.
Thank you for the reply. Just seems that many reviewers do not mention Labs. It opens up so much on the Go Pro. There is even a way for designing your own log profile settings. Labs now works for the 12. Your review is well done and for me to up grade from the 11 might be because of HDR. Image quality and stabilization and battery life seems pretty the same. Of course they have the same sensor :). I did see the review with HDR at night and seemed to do a nice job and is something to think about. However, I did not realize until your review the limitations in using HDR. So in asking is there anything on the 12 that I am not already doing on the 11 with labs? So far no. I know there is that new image sequencing feature. Removing the GPS on the 12 does take away some features offered in Labs. Sorry you had that experience with Labs.
🔥
why gopro 12 battery gets low fast?
Could be a number of issues - shooting in too high of a resolution, shooting for too long…my Hero 12 battery lasts all day (I shoot in 1-2 minute increments).
@@Gemini_Connect it so brand new mam i charge it 100% then i saw 92% then 85.. is it really that fast??
I got a Hero 3. This would be s HUGE upgrade.
I mean to me …. The video/audio quality is the same. I don’t know … I have the 10 now and it’s a perfectly good camera. So thinking I will stick with the 10 until more upgrades …. 13 or 14 come out.
If you’re filming in regular video mode (non HDR or log), they basically are the same.
Is it worth it if you have a Hero 9?
I still have the 7 lol. Every time these new cameras come out I ask myself, "how much will these new features actually change my usage?"
Yes. More new features on HERO12
Personally, we had tons of freezing issues with the Hero 9 and none on the 11 of 12, so for that reason it would be worth it for us. The Hero 7 is great, but it can’t shoot in linear so it has more of a fisheye effect. The hyper smooth stabilization has also gotten 10x better since the Hero 7.
go pro 12 the king!!!❤
DJI Action 4 Vs GoPro 12 Which one I should Buy ? 🤝🏻👍🏻🙂
Both, but bet you would use the 4 most often. Same struggle; this was the advice I got from someone who has both (actually the 11). I think either would be great…comes down to your preference. I actually preferred the 11 often in this video.
I mean this with absolutely zero disrespect but there is definitely a difference between the two videos, you can see the 12 is slightly sharper and does a bit better job with the highlights
Thanks for sharing your perspective!
Thanks as I was mulling buying a hero 12: I use a 10 for POV & an 11 for scenery. I won't buy a 12 😅
for sure shouldn't 😅
No GPS on 12
Yes, good point for those who use it.
That’s a no
GoPro 12 is worth the money - the HDR is a wow
I love the HDR feature! Planning to use it a lot for hiking videos.
I’ll just keep my GoPro 9 does just fine.
If that stills overheat, then is not worthy
That part stumps me! I really don’t get how they got such a long battery life without running into overheating 🤷🏻♀️
I’m looking to start a RUclips. I want to vlog my health and fitness lifestyle and plan to renovate a bus and travel. I’ve been looking to get a GoPro for awhile.
no upgrade needed, save your money, the differences are not worth the cost.
There is no much difference at all, its the same specs. Even the megapixels are the same both have 27mp.
Same pic
Believe it or not, very few people notice that 😜
I owns GP8. Battery swelling
Yikes! My blue GoPro batteries swell. Hasn’t happened yet with Enduro batteries.
Well my Hero 12 Black was delivered yesterday. My last GoPro was a Hero 6.These are pretty cool but the Quik app sux.
Seriously am i tripping or the footage looks grainy and blurry as hell when she is walking? I seriously don't understand are my eyes fucked or people ignore that part? :D
I think the 11 looked better
Thanks for the review. Looks like a pass.
I think many will switch to DJI Action 4. Hero 12 is a forgettable upgrade.
Both are great cameras with their own merits. Personally, I think GoPro still has better image quality while DJI has better usability.
by the time i can afford the 12, they'll have released the 13. lmao. yearly camera releases is so dumb.
Please do not believe this I just lost my Gopro after being used for the first time , i was walking in a pool and placed my arm under 20 cm of water it was dead right away and after plugging my Volta remote thinking its the battery it killed the Volta remote after it turned very hot 🔥 almost to catch fire , I wish I know how to share some pictures with you, but for real this is not a good choice , save your money , contacted Gopro and Best Buy Canada both said the same throw it in the garbage.
Was the GoPro completely water sealed? If so, that shouldn’t have happened. But if you had the battery door off or it wasn’t attached properly, that could kill the camera.
I consistently record over 2 hrs…NEVER OVERHEATED…just leave battery door popped open and issues are gone!
Not all of us can film with the battery door open.
Wow…maybe I am blind but I think the 11 is still better…plus that GPS no toggle on the 12…that’s a deal breaker for me…
Yeah, lack of GPS can be a dealbreaker for those who use it (I personally don’t).
Hero 12 case looks like trash... 😁
