Welcome to Episode 28 of the wooden boat liveaboard journey. In this episode, I applied the first coat of primer to the Mahogany hull planks. If you have a passion for boats, especially the timeless beauty of wooden boat projects, then you've come to the right place! My channel is dedicated to sharing the process of restoring and repairing a 1940 Seaplane Tender into a fully functional liveaboard.
The boat is a 1940 seaplane tender that was originally used by the Royal Air Force during WW2. The hull is built of double diagonal mahogany planks and oak ribs. My parents bought this boat over 30 years ago and used it for weekend trips up the lake. Unfortunately, as they became busier with work it was left idle for many years falling into disrepair. So I've started to invest time into repairing the boat and transforming it into a cozy sustainable liveaboard.
I'll be documenting the process as best I can and releasing episodes here on my RUclips channel weekly. So make sure to subscribe if you haven't already.

I'm sure it's been said on here before, but You may forget your first love but you never forget your first boat!
It's looking good. She's a fantastic looking boat. When I've got a few quid to spare I'll send some your way.
this was a very satisfying episode to watch
Thanks
when you're working on a piece you see every blemish, stand back sometimes and see what others see.
Great tip! Thanks for watching
Very satisfying when the primdr goes on, eh ? Neat, too, that you were speaking to your dad of Peter Knolles at Travels with Geordie.
Good day I'm from Kitchener Ontario Canada. I like see you working on your boat. It look grant job. I hope you will a good do it. As can't do it because I'm in a wheelchair but make happy to see you. Thank you for your fix it. Have a good week
Sanding sucks, but its all about the finish, so you need to sand, sand, sand. Nice video work 2x👍
All these boat shows need to rename to the Sanding & Painting Channel. I swear that's all they seem to do. Nice job on the sanding though. I would have dropped that sander into the water at least twice.
I'm kinda digging that gray primer ! looks military ! I'd paint the whole boat that color and have an accent color like brown with a red stripe and a paint ball gun mounted on the bow ! lolo
Wish I could subscribe a 1000 times mate!
I take it that you also watch Travels with Geordie!
FINE BUSINESS!!! Epoxy expensive here in Canada too! Great stuff though.CHEERS from HERE!
The first thing I would be doing is making a lanyard for that sander so it doesn't go into the drink...
❤ from Australia great job ❤
Thanks for watching!
Doing a great job I watch all your videos 👍
Great camera work
Thank you! More content soon.
I remember the first videos. You have come a long, long way. Vastly better techniques and proper boating materials make all the difference. Amazing what some gray paint can do for appearances. Oh, and patching the huge hole in the side!
Was just wondering if you by chance watch Travels with Geordie, then 2 minutes later you are talking about the moving the anchor chains episode, spooky 😊
Wow, she is looking really great. Great work and sticking with it.
Nice work
Thanks
Love to watch your progress!
Continuing to improve by learning from your mistakes. Another good, dry day for sanding, cleaning and applying primer. Slowly but surely.
Thanks 👍 Getting closer to the day where I can set off from the dock. Day by day! Thanks for watching.
The boat is coming on great your doing a grand job she will be a beautiful boat 😊😊
That's the plan! Thanks
Coming along nicely. I know you're working hard but I find your videos a really relaxing watch, can't explain why. Keep going. Thanks for sharing.
I think on a job like this, it might be more cost effective to buy the West System in the gallon sized containers. I can't even remember how many gallons of this stuff I've used over numerous refits and builds of wooden boats. They provide a quality product.
Sure is a great product. Makes more sense to go all out and buy the bigger container. Thanks for watching
starting to look better all the time mate!
Keep up the great work, it is very hard to stay focused on such tedious tasks, but well worth the reward. Idel hands...

It's good to watch your progress ... you must be pleased. Are you planning on living on the boat when renovation is completed?
Yes! I'm hoping to move aboard for the winter. Planning to build a frame which I can place under the cover allowing me to fiberglass in wetter conditions while keeping all dry. I will soon start fitting out the interior.
It's going to look very nice with all your effort. Nice one.
Great work :) its allways a good day when a new video comes out!
Looking better in one colour 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧 what’s going on with the other boat??
Which one? The sunk one in the background? This is my uncles boat, she filled with rainwater and no bilge pump was ever installed. We seen her very low and thought we will bail her the following morning, following morn she was under...
@@LakesideProductions the one your friend had out in the car park ? Covered with multi colored tarps?? 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
I enjoy your videos, well composed and informative as well. You have come a long way since I started watching
YO WHAT IS THAT BOAT NEXT TO YOURS?! NEXT PROJECT?!
Also, what kind if waterway are you on? It always seems like your water is so still. Are you only working on Fairweather days? Or is it always that still?
👍👌👏
Is that sunken yacht still in the lake in the back ground
Are you able to live on the boat yet
I want to fiberglass the decks and remaining forecabin roof before I do. I'll soon start to fit out the interior. More content soon.
