Welcome to Episode 29 of the wooden boat liveaboard journey. In this episode, we applied another coat of primer to the hull, fiberglassed the roof using epoxy, and fixed the stem timber at the bow. If you have a passion for boats, especially the timeless beauty of wooden boat projects, you've come to the right place! My channel is dedicated to sharing the process of restoring and repairing a 1940 Seaplane Tender into a fully functional liveaboard.
The boat is a 1940 seaplane tender that was initially used by the Royal Air Force during WW2. The hull is built of double diagonal mahogany planks and oak ribs. My parents bought this boat over 30 years ago and used it for weekend trips up the lake. Unfortunately, as they became busier with work it was left idle for many years falling into disrepair. So I've started to invest time into repairing the boat and transforming it into a cozy sustainable liveaboard.
I'll document the process as best I can and release weekly episodes here on my RUclips channel. So make sure to subscribe if you haven't already.

love the videos love the updates and the restoration of this beautiful boat. Just a side bar , I love your Irish accent reminds me of my dear Gran that passed in 87 but was born and lived in Ireland before coming to the states , God Bless you
Another great vid....so good to watch the progress you're making.
Glad you enjoyed it
Well done from Vancouver Island Canada!
Starting to look great! Don't be discouraged, you are really making a difference to that piece of history!
You continue to do one hell of a great job of bringing her back to life. Bravo. You are also lucky that your Dad is still around to offer both his knowledge and his labor.
Keep up the good work and continue to do the proper workmanship job!
Well done she is coming on nicely I think that part of the boat is called the stem not sure see you next week 😊😊
She really looks the part with the white applied. Bit by bit it’s really coming along 😊
Ah you’re Irish. That explains a lot.i was looking around for the elephants. You were talking about the elements.
Well done…be safe…
A lot of visible progress for one episode. That's a beautiful boat!
Good job. Btw Don't know if you've heard of it but Ply peel is a sheet of cheap material one applies directly after glassing .When dry you just tear it off and it leaves the glass underneath opened up and almost eliminates the need for sanding. A light sanding is all it needs.
I really like your videos and the work you are doing. it is just so amazing to see someone put the work, the love and the effort into keeping a beautiful old boat in good condition. Love your spirit and effort!
Have you thought of a small over hang for the roof. It may help keep the rain off the sides of the boat and reduce rot due to water seeping.
Go get'm tiger! Starting to feel the progress yet? Your viewing audience are seeing the project coming together! Goodonyas!
The white primer adds a refreshing pop to the boat. Hopefully the fibreglass on the coach roof seals the top when done.
That upper- and foremost part of the stem is the stemhead. On many traditional sailing vessels a decorative carved piece of art (i.e., a figurehead) such as a mermaid, lion, unicorn, etc., was mounted on the stemhead.
Brilliant! Thanks for this Harry.
Nice work buddy
Thanks 👍
Shame to paint the roof but keeping it looking good and watertight would take a lot of extra work. Great video 2x 👍
it's called the cut water
The piece you replaced in the foredeck is referred to as centreline blocking.
Is there boat building in your future ( ShipWright ) ? Its a noble trade ! Do you have other trade issues in your future ? Just think , your own line of custom boats called Lakeland Sea Eagle or Lakeland Dolphin or Lakeland Sea Turtle !
I was referring to my uncle being the Shipwright and not myself.
Looking good!
cutwater
Why dont you do a haul out?
It's just not possible where we are currently. We have a plan to assess and hopefully fix the outdrive leak jacking up the stern while the boat is in the water.
For some reason I thought he was in Canada but given his accent that was kind of silly
Makes sense as the surroundings look very similar and the fact that we get lots of rain too 😅
