  • Welcome to episode 37 of the wooden boat liveaboard journey. In this episode I replaced the interior plank over the carlin on the interior along with securing the forecabin windshield supports.
    My channel is dedicated to sharing the process of restoring and repairing a beautiful 1940 Seaplane Tender into a fully functional liveaboard.
    The boat is a 1940 seaplane tender initially used by the Royal Air Force during WW2. The hull is built of double diagonal mahogany hull planking and oak ribs. My parents bought this boat more than 30 years ago and used it for weekend trips up the lake. Unfortunately, as they became busy with work it was left idle for many years falling into disrepair. So I've started to invest time into repairing the boat and transforming it into a liveaboard.
    I upload weekly episodes here on my RUclips channel, so make sure to subscribe not to miss out.
    Thanks for the support and as always stay productive and have fun creating!

    For the future, note...Use copper or brass screws! Before inserting the screws (brass or copper) dip them into molten candle wax, This way you get a firm fixture and a watertight seal! Fun fact: to remove the copper or brass screws, just borrow the hairdryer from someone, apply some heat to the screws, and they wil come right out! This will last for 50 years guaranteed! Keep the vid's coming son, you are doing great!

      Toilet seal ring wax works too. It's nice and pliable at room temperature so you don't have to melt it in order to coat the screws.

    I continue to be very impressed with your patience, persistence, and dedication to restoring your boat.
    Thu reuse of your grandparent’s fireplace mantle is heartwarming.

    I have a strong feeling that this is always going to be a boat best suited for the West Sahara region.

      Well it's in the Irish temperate climate so we'll make it function under these conditions.

    A good closed cell styrene would work, just put foil on bothsides of the insulation

    Some serious rainy days. How's the water levels in the bilge, especially the engine area? Good that you get some rare good weather days. Adding some family history to the boat.

      Yeah it's nice to see the weather improving. There's still the slow leak from the outdrive. Going to take a look at it soon enough.

    Have you been in touch with "Ship Happens" from Wales on RUclips. They too are restoring a WW 2 era boat, albeit a bit larger than yours.

    Plainly a ggod idea to cover the boat with a tarpaulin. However is the boat dry now without it?

      Slight leak in one or two places where the seams are. You might have seen I taped plastic bags to the forecabin to protect the roof. Now that the weather is improving I can get fibreglassing and epoxying to seal the roof and decks.

      Thanks for watching. It's my uncle's boat which sank one night. We used to bail out the rain water with a submersible pump. One morning we awoke to find it on the bottom.

      @LakesideProductions  24 дня назад

      Haha the yankeescrewdriver fell overboard and I am yet locate it. Unfortunitely he hasn't got to it, contemplating tackling it myself as it's just a few sheets of plywood which need to replaced along the hull but as you see I can't afford to take time from the seaplane tender.
