I must take issue with your statement, "we are people, just like everyone else." On the contrary: you two are quite remarkable.
Dear John Smith.
👍👌👏 Exactly what I thought and wanted to comment instantly too! But fortunately you already did all the writing work! ;-)
Best regards, luck and health.
There's not a lotta people commuting between continents from their one boatbuilding site to their other boatbuilding site ..... to be precise, I wouldn't know of ANYONE else living like that ....
Alidino is an amazing craftsman, his exacting woodworking, finishing detail is amazing to watch. Thanks for sharing! Cheers...
Agreed he is so meticulous
This channel is more an art channel than a carpentry one. Your art skills in music, carpentry, editing and and wording of the commentary are astounding. Well done.
Yes agree, creative.
Alidino is a badass! Incredible skills, joy to watch someone applying their skills to their passion. Great job guys!
I agree, it's good to see young people doing something other than flipping water bottles and getting all excited when they land standing up. Unbelievable what some people think is an achievement. His achievement with this boat is definitely something to jump up and yell for!
The next owner of Magic Carpet is going to be very lucky. Nice job as usual
My thought exactly.
I was thinking exactly the same!
Ditto
I know the Cape George is bigger and all the rest of it .... but this Vindö is simply breathtaking. Her lines are a pleasure to the eye and she will make someone a beautiful home.
It is a real joy to watch a craftsman producing the quality of work they are capable of. Who ever ends up with this boat is going be very lucky.
Yes, the attention to detail and the depth of craftsmanship is truly astounding!
Great teamwork during the entire series. Impressed with you both. Enjoyable to watch.
I hope Magic Carpet will, when the time comes, find a new owner worthy of her. Owner(s) who appreciate the excellent condition she is in and ensure it is continued. I like that Aladino on the one hand executes meticulous work, and on the other maintains his humour. It's also great that whilst you complement each other, you are both highly competent independently.
Wonderful episode. Knocked this one out of the park.
This is my favourite Magic Carpet episode to date. Amazing production, sound tracks and we even caught a glimpse of the fibreglass tooth fairy! You are definately doing your beautiful boat justice and treating her with the love and respect she deserves. Really enjoy following your adventure and as always, eagerly anticipating next Fridays episode! Thank you
Absolute joy to watch your videos. Thank You.
As always, extraordinary. The lyrical voice over, the amazing display of craftmanship what many of us wish we were.
Magic Carpet I, became a piece of art, when the Artist, Aldadino, picked it up off the floor and steadily rebuilt it and now adding even more, touched it again, adding to it with his craftmanship, to make it even more a beautiful work of art. Whoever gets it in the future, will be a very fortunate person.
Aladino is transforming MC1 from a sailboat to a work of art! You guys have a very inspiring story! Enjoy your time with family and friends. Maya your voice is so calming! And the long hours of editing is Fantastic!
Aladino is the Enzo Ferrari of the sealing boats. Magic Carpet is the Ferrari in the sea: you are the best and we love you beacause all two make incredible skills with passion. The finishing detail is amazing. And Maya, you are a fantastic partner! Thanks for sharing! Great job
Huge congratulations for keeping a Vindo that can be used and treasured for years to come. So many traditional yachts have been left to sink and rot. I have I have owned a Folkboat for decades. Useless as a cruiser, very wet to sail, uncomfortable, damp but a thing of beauty. She brings a smile to my face every time we take to the water.
I think "huge" is an inadequate word for how much work is happening in just this video (never mind overall). Incredible to watch and fantastic results. Thank you for sharing your journey.
I have follow the two of you for a long time and I am being totally honest here when I tell you that I have never seen anyone I would trust to work on my boat (If I had one) than the two of you. This young man, and by this I am including the both of you, has to be one of the most patient and talented craftsman on the planet!! WOW!!!
Alidino is a joy to watch as he meticulously attends to all of the details needed to make Magic Carpet seaworthy and beautiful. Don't forget the grippy deck surface so you don't slide over the side in heavy sea!!! Fantastic job transforming your boat and in documenting every step of the journey!
I am extremely favorably impressed not only with Aladino's work skills, but also how he takes the time to explain to us uninformed peasants, the reasons why he is doing what it is he is doing. I feel that if "Magic Carpet II" was to go out on the water now, she would make the other vessels jealous. You, Aladino are a true MASTER craftsman.
Wow, that’s a whole lot of work, effort, and progress in one episode. The finished products look amazing and the front of the cover looks like a masterpiece of woodworking with all the grain popping out like that. “Stabilizing the surface” is probably the best explanation you could have used for that task and it explains what the fiberglass is doing to cover the 800+ holes in the top surface of the deck. Hope your feeling better Maya and that you can feel better soon. The work you both are doing is far beyond words I can use to say how great it looks. I can see how much you both enjoyed this boat and how you want version 2 to look as good, if not better, which would be a major undertaking given how good this one is shaping up.
You both are true pro, one with boat and one with filming and storytelling. Great job! And great fun to follow you.
The joy here is that whoever winds up buying Magic Carpet 1 will benefit from all the love that has been bestowed upon her since the day she began her journey of healing after falling from the crane. The buyer will be one seriously lucky person.
Your episodes get better every week. As I have said before, Aladino at work is a pleasure to watch, and you are a pleasure to listen to! Magic Carpet I is looking fabulous, better than ever.
Gosh, seldom at scale do objects appear so darn perfect that they appear built as a model. Your hero Magic Carpet shot was that kind of lovely and made me imagine how nice she would look on my mantle!
I just bought an old, Danish 33ft boat from '72 and I am so invigorated and inspired by your craftmanship and impeccable attention to detail. Your level of dedication I will never reach, but these videos really inspire and motivate me to do better and take pride in the process behind every - ever so small - success! Thank you ever so much for sharing!
She's beautiful and so are you Maya. You guys are amazing, Alidino you are a true artist! I can't wait to go sailing with you both again.
Alidino’s work ethic is epic. I can count at least 9 different major projects in this single episode. His knowledge, skill level, and his end product are rarely matched on the many sailboat channels I watch. I wish Alidino was given more time to narrate in detail why and how he was going to accomplish each step ( not always obvious). For example, with fiber glassing the deck maybe a discussion on how he decided he had sanded enough, how did he determine the silicone was gone, what was the silicone remover? What epoxy did he use. How did he keep bubbles out? How did he masterfully cut the fiberglass ? What was the putty? How does one properly use it?
Did he spend 500 hours on these projects? Twenty Five minutes with multiple time lapses is an injustice to Alidono’s sweat, tenacity, knowledge and skill.
Sorry but I can't agree with your statements. For one Alidino has worked hard to reach his level proficiency. Simply copy and pasting a list of materials doesn't do justice to the artisan nature of his endeavours. Were it that simple everyone could do it. So nope, that list is bonkers to ask for. The amount of time invested in learning the craft, what to use, how to apply, what tools, is his strength. Asking for a list.... nope, not done.
It is said anyone can learn a craft in 10.000 hours. However an artisan keeps learning. You can't replace the doing by reading a book or a list.
I really liked this video. The music was outstanding. Alidino is a true Craftsman of his trade! This video seemed warm and personal and inviting. I can't wait for the next video. Great job guys! Stay safe and healthy! Cheers.
That brightwork looks fantastic. Maya, you outdo yourself with your storytelling every time!
I wish i owned as much patience with the order of operations and details as Aladino has. He brings the craftsmanship and fiberglassing skills to the level of wizardry.
Alidino gets a lot of well deserved praise but I want to say that the editing and commentary, story telling, is as worthy of praise as anything else. I have loved your voice and poetry you write as dialogue from the very first video you made.Thank you. Well done. You have inspired me on my journey to the sea and hope to meet you both someday. My friends call me Sailor and my boat is Julia.
Alidino has an amazing work ethic. He'd so competent at what he does.
Like the music in this ep.
The fantastic work you two provide is amazing.
She looks more beautiful for each day sad you got to sell her.
But the one who’s the lucky owner will have a great adventure for years to come. Thanks 🙏
Aladino is a fantastic craftsman - thoroughly skilled, attention to detail, perseverance and top finish. If this is what you get from a 3-year boatbuilder apprenticeship/education this is fantastic - though I very much suspect that he is in a class of his own in that regard. Well done, heartfelt respect and congratulations. Lovely filming and music as well.
These episodes are more than just well produced. They are woven and crafted and skillfully presented to tell us all a story of a meaningful part of your lives. This one leaves us (my wife and shipmate) in awe. From a half Canadian bagpiper who plays from his foredeck and a little sheepherder girl who found the sea, accept our thanks and admiration.
I always look forward to the end of the work week to come home and watch Magic Carpet while sipping a tasty beverage. I always learn something and usually take away some inspiration. Magic Carpet I sure is a pretty, little boat.
We just want to say thank you to all of your boys for not cussing in the videos because our families do watch and we do care and we will be praying for you all
I really like your videos. You do a very nice job on the video production. It's obvious. I very much like Aladino's positive attitude and how he explains what he's doing. For a grumpy, old guy stuck at home in the pandemic, that doesn't sail, watching you two has been a breath of fresh air. I wish I could support you guys (got wiped out saving my cat from FIP a couple of years ago) but I wanted you to know how much I enjoy your videos. Thank you!
I always look forwards to early Friday evening here in Wales when I can watch your splendid offerings here on RUclips. Thank you for a glimpse into your life. No razzmatazz just as it is.
Your introduction voice over was so engaging and welcoming. This episode all through was mesmerising. Aladino is an amazing restoration artist. The new owner will inherit a masterpiece. I hope you add your signature in a corner. And Maya you are equally the partner in this bringing forth your incredible talents. Your final product is always outstanding. For me your uploads are my Saturday mornings with a coffee curled up in my favourite corner. I hope to run across your 'art exhibition' somewhere in the future. A love story like no other ❤
Love it, thanks. Reminds me so much of when I was a young teen helping build a wooden boat. I am now 83 and really enjoy.
It's fun to watch a restoration that you know is far superior to the brand new original build. Great skills of an artist.
Painstaking detail is an understatement. And, I do not know the word that completely encompasses Aladino's attention to detail. 👏👏
Unbelievable! Such an amazing finish on those surfaces. Makes me feel happy!
You guys are seriously good at this. What an incredible team! Maya, your story telling is unparalleled on “the tube”. Aladino, your quality and attention to detail are equally on par.
Thank You for making us part of your lives. Magic carpet looks superb. Be very very proud of yourselves.
You can see the passion in Aladinos work…
If this RUclips thing crashes you guy could fund your journey by detailing boats for people along the way…..😀😀😀
I only can say: EXCELLENT JOB!!!, Magic Carpet is now biginning a second youth with that so important aesthetic changes that are much more than it only. Thanks a lot for let us see it.
the attention to detail in both the boat work and the video production is superb, and i have to disagree with you you are not like other people, you are an extremely talented team, with tenacity way beyond the norm , its just a pleasure to witness this beautifully told story . Fairwinds young lady
I am also Canadian and although my mother was raised in Chemainus, I have never lived in BC. I live in Alberta. Canadian RUclipsrs hold a special place in my heart and you both have become my favourite sailing couple. This episode is, I believe, my favourite so far. Your banter reminds me of the interaction I shared with my husband for 25 years before he passed away suddenly. Thank you both for bringing good memories to my mind through the sharing of your life together. Magic Carpet is such a beautiful boat and you both do such beautiful work. Once again thank you and may God richly bless you in all you do.
I don't what which is greater - Aladino's patience or his skill.
That is one of the finest looking older boat I have seen. And you are not finished yet. That is craft manship.
Remarkable craftsmanship, absolutely stunning.
Oh, and I forgot to tell you how much I love you violin music. Another thing you are wonderful at.
Cannot believe how beautiful Magic Carpet is looking. A true labour of love.
Hi from UK. NEW SUBSCRIBERS WE ARE. The work you do on your boat is truly amazing to restore her to a higher standard than she was. Ready for many years ahead of you in your sailing years together. You are a very talented man... and Lady.. All the best to your finish line and very well done, we love watching all the progress
The couple of frames in the time-lapse sequence that showed Aladino using an oscillating tool with a wide bit that looked a lot like a putty knife to remove a long thin bit of trim on the teak cabin made me realize that he was using a tool bit it have never seen. 10 minutes later I had a set of new bits ordered including one that looked just like the one he was using. Thanks for the pro tip!
Great music and great use of the music. It really expresses the joy Aladino takes in his craft.
There's a certain catharsis in watching Aladino apply his artistic craftmanship. There's a particular poetry in Maya's camera angles, the music, and narrative applied. [Yes, the Go Pro time lapse is included! ] Magic Carpet One is a beautiful Jewel.
The name that comes to mind watching Alidino is: Master Craftsman. His attention to detail produces works of art.
Maya, I have been watching your adventure since your early days in Victoria.
Aladino, you are a master craftsman. I think that you are an amazing team.
Looks amazing! Happy you're both feeling better.
Beautiful finishes....hope you're feeling much better. Looking forward to the next video. Take Care! Claudie/Texas
You two are quite simply Artists and the art is a sailboat. Thank you for sharing
I really admire people who engage such goals.
Your channel has me so trained, that other day, when I walked through a hardware store, I literally screamed out in fear when I looked at the rows and rows of silicone on the shelves. lol
This episode deserves 2 thumbs up, definitely. What a fantastic work Aladino did on Magic Carpet. She is looking beautiful. I love those wooden curves. They are looking almost organic. I must say I will miss the beauty of Magic Carpet when it is sold, eventually. This boat is a piece of Art.
Congratulations to you for this work and thank you for sharing your story with us. Cheers from France.
Absolutely love to watch a work of art become even more beautiful. I do watch other sailing channels and I’m amazed at their lack of skill it’s so wonderful that you can do all the work at the highest level.
Great episode. And I love your pronunciation of the Dutch place names, I'm very impressed! 😁 Happy to see you enjoy your time in our country, we're glad you're here!
You make a great team. The work you have put into your boat, has totally transformed it into a Beautiful Boat.
That wood in the light looks like a piece of rootbeer candy so beautifully done guys just amazing
Hi to you both, yet again it is a pleasure to see the fine quality of the work being done and the same of the behind scene’s editing that makes it possible, thank you.Roly 🇬🇧.
You are truly a "word-smith" Maya, and your music choices this week were delightful. Thank You!
With every episode I continue to be blown away by Aladino's craftsmanship. Holy cow, I wish I had the required level of patience to allow such attention to detail. Much respect, Sir.
Excellent work and Excellent work behind the camera and the editing.
This video has really shown the size difference between MC and MC2. Little MC almost looks like a tender for MC2!
you two are awesome together and to take on a large project like yours can be hard at times but you two seem to ⛵ right through it,Keep up with your dreams.
You two have so many gifts and talents. Like one of your commenters said "you knocked this one out of the park".. this episode, as well as many others.. is PBS worthy.. well done and beautiful work..
There are no words to say how great it looks.
Great video!! Magic Carpet is looking stunning!! And she not even finished.incredible workmanship!!
Fair winds ⛵️⛵️
I hope your recovery, Maya, has been a thorough as the work on this beautiful yacht.
Alidino is a true craftsman and you are an incredible story teller. Great music selection as well!
Wow, she looks good without the teak. Good choice taking it off. Stay safe, stay healthy. :-)
The attention to detail that each of you go thru from the video and voice over to the meticulous work is just beautiful, just love watching the videos you produce
Dear Magic Carpet couple.
👍👌👏 Nearly unbeliiiievably good looking! Extremely well done again and as always (video and work).
As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and health.
You guys got a lot done this time! Glad you are feeling better ❤️
Alidino, you are my kind of CRAFTSMAN !!! " Near enough is not good enough, it has to be just right " !!! This vessel is such a jewel, better than new. If I may make a suggestion, I think you should give her a black "water line". Say, 2 inches (50mm) up from the bottom paint up a "white" stripe, followed with 2 inches of black gloss paint. That would really look outstanding, even more than she is right now. You two are an incredible team of two wonderful people, Wow !!!
It is time for Maya to play us one of her fantastic violin pieces, perhaps Itzack Perlman's
" Flatbush Waltz " ? Maya, you are a wonderful player and a GREAT partner to Alidino !!!
If, when you are in British Columbia again, come up to Powell River, just up-coast from Horse shoe Bay. We would welcome a visit and perhaps go for a sail on our boat, a Panda 40.
We enjoy your episodes very much ! Keep up the " GOOD WORK ", AS ALWAYS. Cheers !
You are both amazing at what you do, and to go the extra mile to enhance the condition of Magic Carpet for mainly the new owners. You are such an amazing couple. Glad your flu. Cleared up, and as always Take Care.
I'm truly impressed, not only by the quality of your work, but your ability to varnish in the same building where you're sanding a deck! The incredible dedication to absolute cleanness that you're both able to maintain is beyond my ability and words!!
Beautiful finishing, btw!!
I watch and subscribe to over a dozen YT sailing channels at this point, and am familiar with dozens more. I have come to appreciate the channels driven by artists who are able to produce content with casually engaging narratives (take us on a journey), content that demonstrates practical boat maintenance and sailing knowledge (take us to school), and -having been a cinephile since watching Star Wars on opening night (as well as being a film school attendee) - I have a special place in my heart for the channels that showcase top notch film work. I have never watched an episode of SMC and not thought, from the opening voiceover, that I am about to have all those boxes checked. You are both brilliant artists, and sharing this poetry and craftsmanship with the world is a kindness. I salute you, and thank you. Fair winds, Brave Adventurers!
What a project, so well executed, on every single step of the build. I'm deeply impressed. Carry on, let your love and passion be your guide.
For a swedish old boatowner and boatlover this is really something extra. The boat(s) and you two, wow.
Maya, so glad you were able to complete all that hard work without damaging your violin playing appendages!
Aladino, fine job!
Both of you keep up the good work!
JIM 🥰
I congratulate both of you magic carpet is a beautiful boat. However, wooden boats are a real labor of love ❤️
A home town girl who grew up in my backyard and cruising area of Vancouver has certainly grown a lifestyle many can only dream of. And at such a young age. You and Alidino are a remarkable couple. There can be only smooth seas and fair winds in your future sailing travels.
I love your videos. You do a great job. And the conclusions at the end of the videos are written so well. The best of all RUclips channels that I watch. And also, I'm glad you're feeling better.
She’s looking awesome week by week!!! Keep up the great work both of you!
your music selection deserves an award
Great episode. So much love and tender, even to your 'old' boat. I love it.
