  • Hello, friends! Welcome back to my channel One Blessed Mess for this video about why we switched to Masterbooks God's Design for Life as well as a detailed look inside this science curriculum!
    If you are new here, hi and welcome! I'm Christie, and I'm a 2nd year homeschooling mom to 5 kids (ages 10, 8, 6, 2, and 2 months!) My husband and I pulled our kids out of public school last year, moved to our new house in the country, and haven't looked back! I love sharing my (authentic + honest) journey with you all, and hope you will join me as we navigate our footing in the world of homeschooling!

    We use this curriculum and are really enjoying it. The Plants section was definitely our favorite. We liked the human body, but the experiments in the plant section were so much more...everything...more entertaining, more educational, more interactive, etc. Overall, we really like this curriculum. Great choice!

    I have this and we are currently in the Human Body unit. I am reading the lessons from Human Body from here instead of the Gather Round teacher guide because GR teacher guide was too much info for my kids. God's Design has been perfect. We are using the activity sheets from GR mostly although we are doing some of the God's Design ones as well! You can do the units out of the order they are in the book so you might want to considering holding off on the plants unit until Spring. There are lots of fun activities that including going out in nature and finding plants/flowers etc to use in the lessons! We love the God's Design series!

      @@OneBlessedMess Something else about this curriculum. The blue boxes after the text part of the lessons are for younger kids (all kids) & the green box is an extension to the lesson for older kids, so you don't necessarily need to feel like you have to do the green box since your kids are 4th and under. With my kids being in 5th & 3rd we skip over the green box & just focus on the blue box. :) Also, one more tip! The Answers in Genesis website (not masterbooks) has a FREE download for all of these units. Sometimes we enjoy those worksheets more than the Teacher Guide from Masterbooks.

    I just want to point out that that the activity on biogenesis in the first lesson is written for older kids (I think 6-8th graders) and the scavenger hunt is the activity for the younger grades (3-5). Just a bit of info for anyone who may not realize that in watching this video because so many folks think this is too difficult of a curriculum for 3-5th graders. . The activities are color coded based on grade level and you do not have to do both 😅

    Hi! This looks great and I think I might look into it!! Question: do they add stuff for the 7/8th grades? I have a 5th and 7th grader and I think it might be too easy for my oldest. What do you think? It seems to me that 3-8 grade is quite a span!!

    • @OneBlessedMess
      @OneBlessedMess  3 года назад +1

      I definitely think it depends on the child! For us, the trade off would be being able to do science as a family vs. my oldest having to do a separate curriculum! I definitely think you could make it work with an 8th grader!

    • @msacres4350

    • @OneBlessedMess

    Can I ask what you switched from? I can't remember if I saw that in a previous video- sorry. We tried Elemental Science first at two different levels and I felt it was a bummer- especially for the 7th grader, my husband and I found mistakes and when we contacted the company they said they are revising. Now trying TGTB Geology unit and I am kind of just so-so about it. I think a lot is over myyounger kids heads (1st and 3rd) and my 7th learned it all in public school a year ago. We are first year home schoolers coming from public school so I love to watch your videos, nice to see other newer moms out there.

      @@sarahbennett7235 check out Making Scientific Connections Through Inquiry. It's open and go. And I heard Bernard Nobel, PhD. the same doctor who created Building Foundations for Scientific Understanding curriculum helped create it. I really, really like the looks of it, but I actually want something Christian-based for science. Might be perfect for you though. Also, check out Real Science-4-Kids. That one is non-religious and looks very comprehensive but still at the level a child can understand.
