Busy discovering the music of this great composer. Easy to understand why this very fine violin concerto has thusfar received many more likes that the cello concerto, which is also a fine work, but not one with immediate appeal. The cello concerto needs more time to really be appreciated for its worth.

More lyrical, less abstruse than Werner Egk's Violin Concerto, but also, for me, not as impressive. Its melodic content is of an elusive character, but that might change after another hearing or two. Egk's work is stronger and more visceral, Blacher's is more cerebral, which I think is a basic difference between the music of these two composers.
