Just fantastic. Everything this orchestra does, under any of their regular conductors, is pure gold. They are up there with the best 😍 And the video production is to match. This channel is one of the best on RUclips.
You never get stuck with any ear worms with Bartok. It is always an alarming sound trip into another dimension. It can be eerie, sometimes scary but always beautiful. He was a master whose greatness keeps growing.
This extraordinary piece was actually composed in 1937 in the midst of the rise of fascism which Bartok actively opposed: he withdrew his music from performance in Germany and Italy. His detestation of fascism even led to his departure to the US where, despite homesickness and distress, he continued to compose, not least another chef d oeuvre, the Concerto for Orchestra
To quote Shelley, 'A thing of beauty is a joy forever.' How true of this piece, and of its power, and of how you rendered it. It is a piece of sheer genius. Bartok would have applauded you.
Wow! Thank you, HR Symphony for this. It feels like the sound track for these days; such a visceral representation of how we all feel as we navigate these uncertain times. You have provided a little "gestalt" in this beautiful, desolate, expressive Bartok piece.
Belleza absoluta llevada de la mano por una refinada y cohesiva expresividad y en medio de ella todos cantando en una sola voz./ Absolute beauty led by the hand of a cohesive and refined expressivity while in the middle all are singing in one voice. Mil gracias.
Nghe âm nhạc Bartok , ngay lập tức, tôi nhận ra…rất khác hẳn, âm nhạc của các nhạc sĩ thời cổ điển và lãng mạn danh tiếng ❤ . Cảm xúc cũng khác ❤ @@@@@
Wow! demystified, crystal clear articulation, precision in dynamics, balance and meter reveal the sheer beauty of this piece. This interpretation is the honourable successor of Boulez‘. And yes, wonderful, no coughing, no burst of applause in the very second the last bit of sound evaporates in the air and all the rest. Thank you for offering this gift right now !
Perfection. The quality of the material performed and published here by FRS is unparalleled. Excellent audio/video. Clear, crisp, flawless execution. Thank you for sharing this.
There are Great Values in Bela Bartok 's canonical music . Also , a new concepts of variations of tempo and mood . Very very Interesting indeed . Thank you for the upload . .
A wonderful performance and as usual an excellent recording. This work is a true gem . In the 4th movement there are two sections where the piano is for 4 hands and the celesta player moves over to the piano . Clever camera direction that doesn't show the moves. ( I also love the Martinu concerto for double string orch piano and tymp) .
Is there anything that makes a better soundtrack for our current situation than Bartok? Perhaps I am imagining it but this seems unusually, extraordinarily, passionate. Thank you for posting it
I saw the Boston Symphony Orchestra play this with conductor Christoph von Dohnányi back in November of 2015. The hall seemed too big for it though but hey …. it was still amazing.
Thanks for a riveting and refined performance of one of the greatest and most creative pieces of the last - and indeed any - century. It would be great if, a la (pretty decent band themselves ) you could provide background info on the composer and work. In English or English and German. I often would benefit from this though, as a Bartok freak, I am fairly well informed here - and it is important to understand its precise context (see response to Dick Kaiser) Many thanks if poss!
@@BrianS119BlackFlameLit Thanks for the info, my comment was just tongue in cheek actually, not serious at all, since somehow that part of it was lost. Delighting to hear that you love this wonderful piece !!

His Dance Suite is pretty earwormish IMO
speak for yourself, this has been stuck in my head for 30 years.

Bravo!! What a brilliant performance and a great recording. This orchestra is one of the finest in Europe.

Composed in the midst of a worldwide depression, performed in a city being challenged by a pandemic. And yet the music rises!

Brilliant. The conductor had such control over the winds here. A true helmsman.
I love Andrés because he has the capacity of the minimalism you can feel everything with such a density that's unreal
One of my favorite pieces by Bartok! And the recording quality is excellent!

Wow, the first time I listened to a piece by Bartok. I think it is great music, such a shame that it took me so long to listen to his work.
Better late than never!
Well, to quote the inimitable Due Lipa, Don't Stop Now, there's plenty more :)
Un misterio amenazante, a veces onírico; acción y movimiento; introspección; resolución, quizá victoria.
