So very nice to listen to this. When I hear music like this, it makes me want to go back and read the play again. Wonderful, thank you for sharing your talent
I have a few CDs of Prokofiev and was always wondering when I could see a live performance. Well today I saw it and it was magnificent! Great orchestra!
@@anielbaldemor1436 There is nothing like seeing it performed live! Of course you could also have a similar experience on the internet provided you have a good music system at home. But nothing like a live performance

@@judepayne9638 It's free to differ but there's no comparison as to the brilliance of Prokofiev. Mahler's symphony 2 is an exercise in standard composing, whereas Romeo and Juliet explores the boundaries of creativity and lushness.
Wow I had no idea that familiar opening theme came from this suite! This is really good although I’ll have to listen to it some more and compare it with Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet which is also amazing, Happy 25th anniversary!
Prokofiev The Destroyer blowing up every Classical form he can get his hands on (with a Smile of course, the scamp) If you were raised/performed the likes of Back, Beethoven, Chopin, Rach and you get to Prok, it's like mouthwash for your brain. So yummy. Scratches that itch you just can't reach. The Atonal Camp like Schoenberg are just rearranging the rubbled Prok made! I LOVE PROKOFIEV!!!! This guy was so audacious/mischievous he named a collection "Sarcasms" ...and then there's that G# after all those white keys!

Sergei "pinched " the second theme from his Classical symphony - one of the most enchanting works I know. It was used in a TV series I worked on in the 1970s "The Boys of Flaxton Hall" Altogether a real pleasure to listen to - although a little surprised at how serious the players were, I smile most of the way, despite the sad story. :-)
Orchestral players generally don't smile -it's called concentration. Just as we tend not to smile during states of sexual arousal. there are some things we do in this life that give us enormous pleasure, but that we do without grins on our faces...
It's only a third of the score. Conductors love to create a suite from their own favourite sections. Every suite you hear has a new combination and in a random order, dramatically speaking.
A wonderful performance and well recorded, without the usual compression of the dynamics. Where is this concert hall? It looks remarkably similar to The Ulster Hall in Belfast, N.Ireland.

Ce qu'il y a bien avec Prokofiev en particulier dans Roméo et Juliette, c'est que chaque instrument à son heure de gloire.
Had the pleasure of attending a concert at the iconic Concertgebouw Hall a few years back. Unique among concert halls.

If I remeber correctly, Hector Berlioz also composed some very beautiful music inspired by Romeo and Juliet.
This is not the opening theme, the version you hear here is a very short version of Romeo and Juliet.
The other composers are also brilliant, this is still my favorite!
I just saw American Ballet Theater's production via Sir Kenneth McMillan. Music, dancing, costumes - to die for.
