Id buy a full bottle of the breckenridge after this tasting. Got strong butterscotch flavors and at 56.99 the price is worth it.

Day 10 is so far my favorite! Smooth hint of vanilla and rich in flavor. Not to strong, smooth all the way down. I definitely want to try this with a smoked old fashioned.

On the nose, I got vanilla, cranberries, and other dark fruit (like plums), with a ginger spiciness.
The taste hit me with the oakyness of a very oaked wine. This was followed by the dark fruit flavor of plum and cranberries with a hint of apples and spices - mostly cinnamon.
Cheers, enjoy, merry Christmas, and happy holidays (or whatever your preferred holiday saying is)!

The color of the Breckenridge hints at dried fruits, silky tannins, and maple syrup. And the color did not lie. Not as spicy as you might expect with rye in the grain bill. Finish lingers to make this a slow sipper for me.

The Breckenridge is fantastic. The spices are really mellowed out by the cask finish but it still stands out and is incredibly smooth. To quote the old Kenny Rodgers chain "it's the wood that makes it good."

Breckenridge: Ooh, really complex nose at first whiff. Nuts, maybe maple on the nose. I can't figure out what it evolves to, but I'd buy a bottle or two. Same thing with the taste. Clove on the finish? The winner of the set so far.

This was a gem. Gorgeous color, somewhere between burnished & tawny orange. The nose was the most expressive of the calendar thus far. I picked up plum more than raisin, but it was definitely over ripe, chewy fruit inspired.
Those flavors are present during tasting, along with syrup and spice. A syrup aged in these Port barrels after this whiskey would be killer over some chicken & waffles.
The finish is dry and overall this dram is complex and complete. It is a sip and savor whiskey. MSRP $45-60. If I can find it on the low end I will probably buy a bottle. I really want to try the sherry finish now.
I gave this an 8.5 only because I think it's a dessert whiskey more than a daily driver. I certainly wouldn't use it as a mixer, so it loses some versatility. Cheers!

At this point, we just watch the video for comic relief. The guys last year were so professional and informative. This year is a train wreck (video-wise).

I think this is my favorite of the Amber Kingdom so far. Breckenridge is top notch, and I don't normally prefer Rye Whiskey.

Breckenridge: Nose: Prunes, candied orange, toffee, oak. Palate: Very thin...you get the prunes and orange which give a quick burst of flavor that quickly fades into an oakey and bitter finish. It doesn't appear our host likes it much either (lol). This would be great for cocktails but just average as a sipper. 5/10.

    • @andysteffen1918
      @andysteffen1918 6 месяцев назад

Prunes/plums is what I picked up too. Interesting that you would use this in cocktails. I see it more as a dessert sipper. I guess if I didn't have any old fashioned mix this could substitute that. Cheers!

Love the Breckenridge. But we laugh every day at the cut right after Lui pretends to remove the bottle from the box. You never see him actually remove the bottle. Because we all know you need tools or risk shredding your fingers!!

Breckinridge was one of my favorites from last year. Not as big a fan of this one, a little too sweet and fruity. Would make a perfect dessert whiskey.

The variety of evaluations is interesting. I like this whiskey, but it is not my favorite so far. It is quite smooth with a good lingering mouth feel. My first smell was woody.smokey but that gave way to dark fruit after 3 drops of water. Taste was not strong, which was surprise. What taste there was continued the dark fruit theme. The mouth feel was very nice though, i get where the syrup elements are included. Lingers mildly and pleasantly. 7
