Loved the Two Stacks First Cut
Excellent rye! This is one of my favorites so far. I’m a few days behind but and determined to catch up. But not all at once.
Sonoma... choc/vanilla nose, with a little fruit. Lovely.
Very spicy, a bit of sweet, slight burn at end. Very rye. My wife, not a rye person, suggests it could either do to breathe for a bit and/used in a mixed drink.
A bit of water or ice make it better.
for me, the Sonoma cherrywood is BY FAR, my favorite one so far
Guess we have a winner! That’s great to hear, but please remember.. we still have half of the calendar left 😉🥃
@@Flaviar and hopefully every day is better than the last 😁
Really like the lost art sample today very good.. I also love my advent calendar and my subscription/membership. Seems to be some people jumping on these videos and complaining.
On the nose, I'm getting mostly vanilla and a bit of spice, and fruit.
For the taste, I'm getting very smooth mouthfeel, with a slight oaky after taste. I'm also getting some nutty flavor with lemon/lemon peel with a hint of sweet vanilla.
Cheers, enjoy, merry Christmas, and happy holidays (or whatever your preferred holiday saying is)!

The Cherrywood Smoked Rye is interesting. Most rye shakes your hand and say "Hi there. I'm a rye whisky." This only seem to say at the end, "did I mention I'm a rye?"
Love this comment
Haha, this is awesome.
Wow, wow, wow!
This Sonoma for me upsets my favorite bourbon whiskey EHT small batch ever so slightly. This is my new 10! Absolutely amazing!
really enjoyed the Sonoma cherry wood smoked rye. will definitely purchase this.
This was fun. Definitely a boutique/bougie whiskey that I didn't know I needed in my life. MSRP $44 means I shall have it.
The nose was my favorite so far. Really liked the cherry wood influence, but can I get clarification on the mash bill. I read one review that it is a 100% rye but another referenced malted barley that was smoked with the cherry wood.
The whiskey was incredibly smooth and balanced. Really good ripe, spicy fruit followed by a slight nuttiness. Overall, I gave this an 8 and will look to acquire a bottle for home. Cheers!
Thank you Andy for sharing your thoughts. We definitely agree to your comment and we’re super glad you enjoyed it. The mash bill should consist of 80% rye, 10% wheat and 10% smoked malted barley.
See you on the next one 🥃
My nose, FWIW, first scented dark fruit like cherry and plum, very nice. A couple of drops of water brought out the rye, grassy scent in a fresh and sweet manner. My first sip change my impression entirely, the rye/grass taste was overpowering in a wet, spicy sort of way. There was also a fair bite. But the finish improved, smooth and dry woody, spicy notes. And it is smooth enough overall that it kind of grows on me as I finish the glass. A decent whisky, but not as good as the first rye and the Danish rye. Initial 6 moved to 7 (8 is still the highest I have so far).
Thank you for sharing your detailed review and taste notes. 7 out of 10 is a pretty solid number, so we’ll take this as a win.
And good job on adding the water. Sometimes it truly does wonders to the flavor. Cheers and happy holidays 🥃
sonoma is very nice, I'm preferring the sample on ice.
While we encourage you to try and sample it neat first it’s also very important to find what you like best. So cheers 🥃🥃
The smoked rye was interesting and so far my second favorite in the series.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Make sure to keep track and let us know your final rankings. Cheers 🥃
I would love to try number 12 but it arrived almost empty but sealed. I'm very disappointed 😢
Seems like quality and quality control are way down this year. Will be looking elsewhere next year for something like this
Thank you for letting is know. Could you please elaborate on what do you mean with quality and quality control.

Sonoma Cherrywood Rye. Nose: Rye, fresh cut grass, dirt, fresh cut wood, earthy. Palate: Rye, plums and heavy oak/woody/tannic notes. Finish is extremely dry and oakey and those tannins like to linger. This is young, nippy and pretty terrible stuff. Based on some research it seems the distillery ages this rye in extremely small casks which accounts for the overbearing oak, wood and tannins. Which is a shame because I lived in Sonoma County for many years and wanted this to be a winner...however I think they would be suited to making wine. 4/10.
Black Box.The cherrywood was a flavor I could not pinpoint blind. Very interesting and bready with a long finish. So many curveballs this year. Well done on the choices. Don’t listen to the clown crying about lack of Japanese whiskey.
Thank you for sharing all the nice feedback. Means a lot!
While we respect every point of view of the samples we’re really glad to hear we succeeded in delivering.
Cheers and see you back tomorrow 🥃
Sonoma tastes too fruity/sweet for me.
Thabk you for your feedback. See you back tomorrow! 🥃
This was a bad bottle: it was only half full & appeared to have leaked. No nose, & the taste was awful. It was probably spoiled, but I could see not give it a 0/10 - sorry…
The videos are not educational
Thank you for sharing your feedback. With the videos this year we tried to bring in simple and short format type of content where you as a community will have a chance to interact with us and each other sharing your experience.
If you look at the description of each video you’ll find links leading to every sample included in the Advent with provided deep dives on educational part.
We’re making notes for future and will make sure to bring longer and more educational focussed content in the next year.
Cheers and happy holidays 🥃
WHERE ARE THE JAPANESE WHISKEYS???! This advent black advent is substandard compared to last year. Very disappointing this year for $250, not worth it so far. Hope it gets better.
It seems we are getting bottom of the barrel stuff (pun intended). We're half way through and so far not a single proper Scottish single malt? Embarrassing.
