Reminds me of my former upline. A couple of her children were removed and went to live with dad which is interesting since it’s hard for dads to get custody but of course when I signed up I got her story about how bad he was. Some of these “ladies” are something else! She was also high up in Paparazzi and getting welfare checks or so we heard. Yet telling us how much she was making the whole time. 🙄

It happened in Hong Kong, remember? Hong Kong, like many Asian countries, has a lot of corrupted police officers and government officials. People have to pay under table money to make the police take action. I have lived in several cities in Asia, and the level of corruption sometimes just inhuman, like some of these MLM horror stories. A friend of mine was asked some amount of money by the police because she was a witness in a theft case. A witness! Also there was a case when firefighters refused to take action before the owner of a burnt house pay them some money. The owner lost a young child in the fire because of that.

The one with the daughter with a heart defect breaks my heart. My son was born with two different heart defects. One being hypoplastic left heart syndrome which means his left side of his heart was smaller than the right side. The other is heterotaxy. By itself it's not that bad but with another defect can make it worse. His aorta pump came in on the wrong side, he was born with out a spleen and the valve that went from his heart to his lungs didn't develop. The doctors told me that there is nothing that I did to cause it but bring his mother I felt like I did something wrong even though I didn't . For that Arbonne lady to convince that poor woman that it would help the baby makes me so sad. I really hope that she gets out before she gets herself into too much debt. my son thankfully survived 9 open heart surgeries and a heart transplant I can't imagine what that mother is going through losing her baby.

To the tune of the song from Beauty and the Beast:

    Trying to branch out,
    trying to make more,
    trying something new,
    trying to get you,
    Oh this is a bore.
    Tale as old as time,
    is this really sane?
    They are no experts,
    and this really hurts,
    Just stay in your lane!
    These MLM Huns,
    act with bad conduct,
    we are not prepared,

The cancer story reminds me of something that happened in my country some years ago. The story even made it to multiple magazines.
A woman got diagnosed with breast cancer and soon after she got interested in holistic and natural alternatives. MLM's were never named, but I can't help but think that they must have been involved in some way. She began ordering oils, including cbd, from abroad. She would only take advice from her new, mostly american friends. Her mom and doctors begged her to agree to at least some of the medical treatments, but she kept refusing. If I remember correctly, she even travelled abroad to attend some kind of a holistic/spiritual retreat despite her declining health.
Unfortunately she d1ed, and left behind her 10 year old son. Her mother was absolutely devastated and has been sharing the story on women's magazines in the hopes of saving someone else.
I understand how these things happen in the US and other countries where healthcare is ridiculously expensive and people are desperate to find cheaper alternatives. But healthcare in our country is reliable, high quality and relatively inexpensive, many medications and treatments are partially or fully covered by the government and social security. I just can't understand how someone would not only risk their own life, but also take the risk of their small child losing a parent like this 😔

For the Kangen water story, most likely she was at a level that it would benefit her more for her downlines to "promote" than for her to make the sale. Sometimes they require downlines at a certain level for them to get certain bonuses.

It's pure agony knowing I will loose her to it (I genuinely am struggling emotionally to cope so many tears have been shed). The amount of oily huns that ooze their way out of the woodwork when they hear someone has cancer or any other illness or disease is astronomical. I hate that they prey on people who've become ill, whether they have good intentions or not. It's such a bold stance to take that they think they know better than people who have dedicated their lives to fighting these diseases and some damn oil is going to cure someone of it better than the actual treatments. You were actually the first anti-MLM content creator I watched (RUclips randomly suggested you to me, I still have no idea why) and while I now watch others and fully appreciate them too, you're still my favourite because you come with facts, research, and a constant focus on the systemic nature of the problem of MLMs.

Hannah, I think your commentary on the last story was spot on. I've been listening to teaching podcasts and related commentary and most news sources say that somewhere over 50% of teachers have considered quitting in the last 5 years (can't remember the statistic exactly but it was staggeringly high). It would not surprise me if that teacher was looking for a way out of a job that doesn't pay her what she's worth and was promised that LuLaRoe was that out.

I have been a teacher for 20 years. I have known more than a few fellow teachers who have quit their jobs because MLMs were offered as a way out. It’s sad. They usually come back to teaching once they go into debt and their MLM “opportunity” doesn’t pan out.

A note on Enagic: according to Anna’s Analysis and her research about Kangen water, Enagic only has one filter for chlorine, and doesn’t filter out heavy metals, volatile organics, or salt. I know not many people here would be tempted to buy from Enagic, but that’s an important detail about the filtration.

As a momma of 4 gorgeous girls, I can say you are going to love it 💕 my second born was born with a vsd (a hole between the chambers of her heart). It did close on its own by 6 months, but she's still so dainty, like a 7 year old little fairy. She's smaller than her 5 year old sister. With the number of things that can and do go wrong in pregnancy or a child's life, this is disgustingly predatory and cruel. I hope that momma heals ❤️‍🩹 and again, congratulations on your lil beauty Hannah!

I was the child in a very similar situation(heart murmur I didn't grow out of), and after my surgery I was in the ICU with a kid who was born with 3/4 of a heart(I hope he's ok to this day). I can tell you that our conditions were not brought on by our moms' health choices, we just had unlucky rolls of the dice when it came to our hearts and were among the lucky few who made it long enough. I hope she heals from this loss and knows she did everything right 🧡

  • @localbiologist8999

Hi Hannah, I'm commenting way after this video came out but wanted to say something since the young living story really hit me too. I am currently getting my PhD in cancer biology, and have seen many people go through the same thing with their loved ones. Chemotherapy and radiation work by trying to kill off the cancer cells in greater abundance than killing off healthy cells but because these therapies mostly target cells that divide rapidly, a lot of healthy cells in our gut lining and other areas tend to get hit hard too...which is unfortunately why nausea is so common, as you mentioned. We are always trying to work on finding better treatments that are more targeted and cause less side effects to the patients, but it is slow going. I would encourage anyone who is going through a similar situation with a loved one to make sure that they are discussing any holistic options with their oncologist - both so that their loved one feels that they are exploring all of their options but also so that the oncologist can consider any possible interactions that may occur between any ingested holistics and chemotherapy. Sending lots of love to the subscriber who submitted that story and hoping that their family has been able to find some peace and closure ❤

  • @veronica58

The cancer story is horrific. I hope the family will contact a good personal injury lawyer. These people (the sellers) don't listen until the pain they cause to people results in financial pain to themselves. The seller and the company should learn that they aren't qualified to give medical advice to anyone, especially to someone who is so vulnerable. It constitutes elder abuse (physical, emotional, financial) in some states. It will continue until they learn the hard way that what they are doing is wrong. My heart goes out to this family who had to watch their loved one suffer. 💕

My husband's family used to live in Hong Kong before the changeover in 1997, but at the time, everyone paid tax, regardless of income, as a flat rate. I think it was 12% or 15%...something like that. So even if you only earned $200 in a year, you'd have to pay a percentage to the government in tax. How this rep didn't know that is beyond me.

Have you ever thought about doing a deep dive on Shanann Watts' relationship with MLM and how it affected their family? People have touched on it here & there and I've always found it fascinating... not saying at all it was any excuse for what happened to her of course. It clearly was an issue in their family tho. I've never seen it dealt with in any other way but as a very cursory mention. I would love to see someone really explore the whole topic. I admit I haven't checked (and I will) but if you haven't I hope you'll consider it.

He also had a head surgery and he is autistic. If someone told me that it's my poor health decisions that caused all of this I would now be in prison for murd3r! My brother took me to a recruitment conference for Melaleuca. I had never really heard of MLM's but my 20-yr-old gut yelled at me "Don't do it!" I have a former coworker who sells Amway and bragged about the products. I did buy a few things, which I did like, but were definitely overpriced when I could've purchased better products from Ulta. She has "mentors" that coach her and she is definitely immersed in her "business." I don't think she is honest about where she is (financially). She left a full-time government job with amazing benefits to do this full time, so maybe??... still, not my thing at all. I could never sleep at night selling products to people I love that I knew were overpriced or unnecessary.

I don’t know if gold canyon an MLM or not. I live in Arizona and Gold Canyon is actually the name of a city here and I have met the lady who created the company and we used to sell them for fundraisers at our school and when I was in cheerleading for new equipment & things like that, and we would sell them to our friends and family and whatever we sold, we would get certain prizes for it, which is another type of business model (kind of like selling Girl Scout cookies in a way), but I don’t know if it’s technically an MLM or not.
