- This video is a mixed bag of goodies from Iceland and starts with the TV series True Detective that's being shot nearby so I checked out how a town in Alaska fits in Icelandic landscape, and then I spun the rest from what's been going on around me lately.

Every aspect of Iceland has a unique sparkle including your work.
Thanks a ton :)
Hitchhiked through Dalvik in ‘73 One of the coldest winters I remember was a summer in Iceland.
Yes it was extremely cold back then :)
How interesting about True Detective filming there. I had to look it up since I've never watched it. Kudos to Dalvik for getting this gig on American TV. You always have something surprising for us. Thank you!
Always welcome :)
So excited to visit Akureyri for the first time in june ❤️
Thank and be very welcome to Akureyri :)
Happy to know that you are a prankstar too 😂!
Niceland ❤️💙
Always!😂
I started choking with laughter over the burger with sardines......that would have been so funny to actually see it on the menu!
It was so tempting to take this all the way :)
Sardine burgers: sounds great :) Btw: Johann the Viking Giant measured 2.34 metres (7'8), according to Wikipedia.
Thanks, I forgot to mention it :)
Very Interesting. I remembered when visiting around Kleifarvatn back in October last year - a local I was taking personal photography with told me they were filming True Detective on the far side of the lake - evident with movie set trailers that can seen far in the distance. At first, I wasn’t sure how Iceland would fit the setting of True Detective given it is based mostly in the United States - but makes sense now that they use Iceland to double as Alaska. Not surprising, Iceland’s exotic landscapes are idyllic which it has been used as a double for various settings in movies such as the Himalayas (Batman Begins) or Siberia (Captain America: Civil War). Thanks for the update 👍🏻
Yes I'm curious to see how this will turn out for us, only good nature shots will get us the money back :)
Not enough Tyvek siding showing on the houses in your Alaska! 😆
Thanks for sharing 😆
Sardine burger - LOL! 😝 Loved the fake electrical poles and wires on the set. I wonder if they survived the latest orange warning. Ahaha - as the plow approached the car parked on the street at the end, I hoped it was parked legally...or was the plow going to relocate it to a snow pile.
The set survived the weather but it's been quite strange recently, and some false weather alarms as well. like goes, but i think the snow plow was helping out with the set, they were just about to start when this was shot, and the snow is all gone now :)
Love all your videos!
Yay! Thank you!
There is so much product placement in this series some sarcasm is well deserved. The one that really caught my attention was the flats of red kidney beans that kept showing up. If Alaskan's really eat so many beans, I think the reason that door got blown out of the plane may be due to more than loose bolts.
great report
Welcome :)
Subscriber 499 on your other channel here… nearly halfway to your target. I am a small time author on the far side of the planet, who cannot speak northern Icelandic, but even so am compelled to help in this small way, especially as much of my writing is inspired by Icelandic legends. Plus the thought of someone unwittingly biting into sardines in a hamburger is hilarious.
Thanks for stopping by and subbing :) and here is the real Icelandic "food" ruclips.net/video/CBU52ss1bcE/видео.html
@@JustIcelandic that would be something to experience! Is this still included in Þorrablót feasts? I think I will stick to honouring Þórr by enjoying a good beer!
In the last shot, the clouds on the right look like far away mountaintops.
Thanks for sharing and welcome :)
Dalaska sounds like something for an amusement park with American reindeer burgers
😂
Im watching the series now . excellent so far, its suppose to be the polar nights. So scenes are in the evening.
Thanks and welcome :)
.. I knew there was some reason that I follow this channel besides your outstanding videos...
I too am somewhat of a smartass, and often have to 'check' myself and some ideas i get , lest they get out of hand and foolish. Illustrating absurdity by being absurd is a lost art. IMO
You are very right, and thanks for sharing :)
I think that burger smells a bit off, but it's strange how Sardine's work well on toast, but would be a huge miss as a burger. I can see we would have to be very careful if you invited us subscribers over for dinner.
I'm actually excellent chef :) no need to worry there :)
@@JustIcelandic We will have to put that to test one day in your beautiful northern city.
I really want to visit Akureyri again. I only got to see it very briefly a few years ago but it seems very nice. I'm curious to know what time of year most think is the best to visit.
I would say from June to December, even into February but it's a bit more risky. The autumn is spectacular in this town, like the summer, and fresh snow helps into the winter :) but check the other videos about Akureyri, plenty to see from all seasons: ruclips.net/video/EZhehOhjjWo/видео.html
Actually a hamburger with sardines sounds like it might be good. I'm going to try it tonight 😁
Don't blame me if it goes wrong 😂
I love Sardines on Sourdough toast
A lot of people enjoy anchovy paste with beef steak so...
😂 Sardine Foster Burger! All this, and you are a cook too. I imagine Jodie did have that burger and loved it. For myself...eh....I'll take the sardines on the side with my fries, please.
Noted, deep fried or baked on the side 😂
@@JustIcelandic Fried is always good, unless it's Greenland shark, then I disappear. uhhhhhhggg.. I made one out of bronze, you know. Lots of research, they are amazing creatures but Not to eat.
Would it be hard to introduce English subtitles into the videos of the Akureyri channel? Or is that a feature that comes out-of-the-box from YT when the AI is "understanding" the spoken language?
I have actually done all subs manually on this channel to get the place names right and such, but i might to some subs on Akureyri as well, let me think this over, and greetings from Akureyri...
Impressive set! Alaska without fir forest? BTW the village looks too nice and at this time of year too white.
PS - Hamburger with a slice of pineapple and shark might be believable
🤢
Uff, don't mention the shark, terrible "food"
Two questions, my friend!
One...why so many white buildings? I would have assumed that northern Iceland would have a colour scheme on par with far northern Nordic countries, like the Faroes. Even northern Norway is predominantly red siding which stands out beautifully in snow.
Two...will they be adding the vast "Alaskan" forests into the movie via CGI? Hopefully, they utilize some of your amazing plow footage! (Or sheep/raven/horse😉)
Well😉 I must admit that I didn't notice the white houses until you mentioned them, but Icelandic towns are usually very colourful, so I don't know what's wrong with people there :) but as for the Alaskan forest, yes I thought a lot about it, especially since we the taxpayers pay 35% of production cost, and I want my money back in the form of free promo for Iceland, of course. So I suspect that it's gonna be some CGI Jon waiting for the final product, and it's gonna be interesting to see it :) and greetings from Iceland :)
Halló halló ! What is the name of your other channel? I will ofcourse subscribe. I love this channel, and I love that you are a prankster ( I am too) Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪🇮🇸
I found Gylfi’s other channel “Akureyri” by searching for his snow clearing video “Akureyringar að kenna Reykvíkingum…”
The name is "Akureyri" and be very welcome and greetings from Iceland 🇸🇪🇮🇸
Maybe they have already emailed the burger joint and organise it as a treat.
Well, the idea is out there now :) feel free to use it :)

Welcome :)
"8 stars of gold on a field of blue".....words from the Alaska flag song. Although I see the flag it doesn't look like my village on the Yukon.....and forest is missing unless of course this represents some of the coastal regions of Alaska vs the interior.
Never outgrew that mischief little guy seen in other pictures? Laughing......northern people entertain themselves during the winter....all part of the fun.....
Thank you so much and greetings from Iceland :9
40 days of winter left😁
Not around here :)
Maybe 60 days or so in Reykjavik (April 10 ca..) and 80 days up north or west
no 336🤭👍
Welcome :)
1st ?
being quite partial to a fish sandwich I must question your ideas of sarcasm .... prank yes, but sarcasm ... no.
Not in my world.
In my world, sarcasm is the "lowest" form of whit !
Your prank however would have made me laugh ..... have you thought of writing them down and compiling a book ?
If you wrote it as a "script" you could maybe become a true Icelandic comedian ... in Iceland ...one day ... becoz, as you say ... it's cruel. .... and, we do seem to be going that way.
Probably not the 1st now, eh !
Well, this youtube things has made me wonder into strange paths 😂 but I have written comedy material from time to time, like ads, and I actually have a good time when I can play around a bit with words :) but the future is still unclear about such :)
@@JustIcelandic : Yep, I too like to wonder when I wander into strange paths ... but like most things, after a short while, they lose their strangeness.
