    In this video I I discuss my new dust collection system from Harvey Woodworking, as well as my metal ductwork from NORDFAB. This new equipment is a great addition to my woodworking shop. I will discuss the delivery, setup, duct layout, duct assembly, noise tests, and CFM testing. This is not a review video, nor is this a sponsored video.
    I purchased all of my NORDFAB duct work through John Benson of Airpro Denver. Below is a link to their website and his direct email. I highly recommend John and his team to anyone in the market for dust collection equipment.

    Again, we thought alike. I too went with the Nordfab ducting after agonizing over the cost for about a month. I just finished the install a couple of weeks ago. Paired with my upgraded DC (different make and model than yours) I feel like I got more value than I paid for, My shop is virtually dust free now. I did find it cumbersome to assemble the ductwork by myself but with my wife's assistance we knocked it out in short order. And like you said, it's super easy to change. After a couple of days I decided I wanted to tweak the runs a bit and we got it sorted out in no time.
    On thing I appear to have done differently than you is that in addition to running 4" drops to my table saw and router table (my router table is inset at the end of my table saw) I also ran 2.5" drops from above to my table saw blade guard and router table fence. I connected those with loose fit/quick connect fittings so I can easily move the hoses out of the way if need be.
    I also ran drops down to my miter saw, disc sander, and spindle sander, drum sander, and planer/jointer. (My bandsaw and drill press are connected to a separate wall mount DC unit.)
    Lastly, I used iVac automatic blast gates on everything, which also was quite pricey, but again, well worth it to me.
    On a side note, from the brief glance I got, I think we even chose the same overheard power cords. I love that they are 12 gauge and went on sale just as I needed them!
    I might as well confess that I did steal the idea of getting that overhead boom for my CT-36 extractor from you. Overall it's nice to have the hose and tool cord out of the way, even though I still fight with it sometimes.

    ADVICE QUESTION: You pretty much have the best ductwork setup for your situation to smooth out the path from machine to the extractor. What are your final thoughts on this extractor's actualized pulling power for your larger tools, your jointer/planer? I will be running a A3 41 and I am looking at the 700, comparing it to the likes of a 2-3hp Laguna system, but I am left wondering if it can handle the task. I will be working less sheet stock and mostly milling up rough sawn hardwoods. Do you find your 700 has the oomph needed for the larger chip load of your jointer/planer? How fast are you filling your chip bin with this machine and do you find the chip bin undersized? Imagining for a moment that you were processing wood in the rough on a frequent basis, would you still purchase this extractor? Your thoughts, as always, are appreciated.
    Cheers!

    • @bentswoodworking
      @bentswoodworking  4 года назад

      So the first thing I will say is I am absolutely loving this new machine. I as well will have the A3 41 in the shop starting in December. With that being said no I don’t have any concerns with my dust collection being able to handle it. Currently I’m getting over 700 CFM at every machine. The only downside that you might experience is the size of the dustbin capacity. I initially thought this would be a downside myself but after trying to empty 55 gallon bags I would much rather empty a much smaller bag more often then empty a very large bag less often just because it’s so much easier to do the task. The other benefit to it is it’s very easy for me to remove the bag and throw it in my trashcan. So it totally depends on how you look at it because in your case it may get really old if you’re milling a lot of lumber and have to empty the dust bin four times in one day. All in all I don’t really have any complaints about this machine so far. I will probably be doing a overview video in the October November timeframe after I’ve had a good six months or so to use it and empty the bags multiple times but so far I couldn’t be happier. Even at my CNC machine which is the longest run it is absolutely dust free when I’m done cutting

  • @rfguy8499
    @rfguy8499 4 года назад +1

    Thanks. Wow, it seems to be very quiet for a DC of this size. Just wondering if the 45 degree run going into the machine is required - could you go straight up to the ceiling using one of the contoured 90's that are used for drop down at each tool? I wonder if it wouldn't be more efficient to build a sturdy platform to raise this DC up in the air (could have storage underneath it and this would make a more direct duct run going into the unit). Just a thought.

    • @bentswoodworking
      @bentswoodworking  4 года назад

      This just provides less resistance. I wanted to avoid 90s if I could. As for raising it, it would create problems changing the bags.

    • @Warkive
      @Warkive 4 года назад +1

      I've been speaking with the company regarding several questions to include this exact one. Their answer is that you should have advertised performance as long as you have a straight run out from the inlet that's 3x the diameter (in most cases people using 6" ducting would need an 18" straight run at minimum), you can then proceed to use a gentle 90 as long as the centerline radius is at least 2.5x the diameter. I agree with Jason though. Use 45's where you can.

    Jason, I've watched this video three times now and I'm convinced that I haven't seen you mention grounding the ductwork. I've seen so many videos that make grounding sound really important and I've also heard experts say that it's unnecessary (e.g. when was the last time you heard about a dust explosion in a home shop). Personally, I don't think home shops generate nearly enough dust to be a problem. Your thoughts (my apologies if I missed them in an earlier video).
    Also, are the 4 casters on the Gyro all full pivot or two straight/fixed and two pivot?

    How often do you need to clean out the side ports? My concern (and the general consensus from what I've seen) is that 700 CFM isn't enough to reliably separate the finest particulate which means a decent bit of it is probably getting to the filters (as compared to the more traditional ~1500CFM dust collectors in the same price range).

So you could leave the power on switch at the backside of the G700 in the “ON” position, and not have to reach over the top of the machine to turn on that switch. You could just flip the wall switch and your power would already be on, then use the controls to start running the dust collection. Especially if you have or build anything across the top. Few points. First off. Thanks for sharing. Hard not to be impressed and not to be jealous of your well equipped shop. However, Sure wish you’d disclose msrp, discounts, incentives, or freebies for all this stuff. If we want to consider a similar option at least we’d have a right idea of costs. Something else is function. Show us the dust bin and frequency of empty, ease of clean , etc. the cyclone type seemed very easy to use how does this compare, etc.
    Also for your trial and error way to calculate flow. Seems like the oem or person who advised you (john?) should’ve given you a way to measure or calculate it. I guess a simple water column or some other way to measure delta p could be used to calculate flow. To just say it maxed out at abc is only partially helpful.
    I’m actually researching machines and options now for my shop so this info sure could help. Thanks sir. Honestly though, Hard to daydream the stuff you have access to. You’re quite blessed. Happy for you.

      All of that information will come in a later review video after I have used the machine extensively. I can’t share emptying a full dust bin when I haven’t yet filled it up. As for cost, I shared the price for the amount of duct work that I used. The Harvey Dust collection has been fluctuating quite a bit since it was released. It is currently listed at $2990 on the website. Last month it was on sale for $2300 and just the other day they had a flash sale at $1999, which is what I was invoiced for. I am an ambassador for Harvey now and they have even provided me with a discount code to offer my audience where you can save 15% off if you wanted to buy one for yourself. A common miss conception is that my shop is full of tools that I didn’t have to buy. That is definitely not the case. I am in a position now to work with companies, however, I am very careful with the companies I chose to promote/support. Also, with the CFM, I know how to calculate it the issue is the equipment I have, isn’t rated for the suction of the machine. Hopefully this information is more helpful for you. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me or send me a DM on Instagram and I would be happy to help. Thank you for your input and suggestions 👍

      You need to go to the Harvey website. For some reason vendors are charging a very high price

    I just have to say, when describing your experience ordering nordfab, I would’ve dreamed for even half that amount of service from Oneida. Last year I ordered a $3k+ cyclone and $4k worth of ductwork, and the customer service I received especially with respect to ductwork design and follow-thru/up was beyond disappointing and frustrating. Once the $$ was paid, it was as if I didn’t exist anymore. To anyone reading this, highly suggest looking for someone like Jason worked with instead.

    do you miss not being able to run a floor sweep on your dust collection system? its strange that the impeller is BEFORE the cyclonic function. Every lick of dust is passing over the impeller which means you don't want to vacuum up anything larger than a shaving. I cringe every time a small chunk of material gets sucked up in my harbor freight unit. It makes quite the hammering sound hitting the impeller.

      I do not. Mainly because I never had one before. I just sweep stuff into a pile and the sweep it up into a pan.

    Dust collection seems to be getting more and more expensive. I know you can't put a price on safety, but you can put a price that makes safety impossible for some people :(

      @@bentswoodworking Absolutely, and it looks amazing! I am a home woodworker (though just an amateur) and would love a quiet and safe solution especially because my kids play in the garage where the shop is. Unfortunately if you want those 2 things at any significant size you have to spend $2-3k which I cant really afford and the second hand market is sparse

    Sorry for asking this, but did you pay full retail for that Harvey or is it an ad?

    • @bentswoodworking

      My cost was $2000 which is the same cost they offered to everyone a few days ago. Additionally, what difference would that make? This video wasn’t an add nor would I put tools in my shop that I didn’t have confidence in. I don’t fill my shop with free tools contrary to popular belief

      Bent's Woodworking thank you for this reply and always appreciate your transparency. I was waiting for someoone like yourself who I respect and follow on RUclips. I am going to order this unit because you showed it hooked up to duct work and showed air flow readings, convinced me. In addition I was actually looking at the 3hp Jet and Laguna, Oneida V3000 and Supercell. The new price and 15% off is what is going to push me over the edge. Any updates on performance you can share a couple weeks later?

    🙄 Hz is a measurement of frequency... Noise is measured in decibels (dB) ... Sorry, I'll stop being THAT guy 😕

    • @bentswoodworking
      @bentswoodworking  4 года назад

      I am aware of that. The machine has variable power from 40-75 Hz. The noise level was 60 Db at 40 Hz and 77 Db at 75 Hz
