Thanks for your review of the G700. I have been operating the Harvey in my shop since Spring of 2021, so about 9 months. Here is my list of pros and cons and an observation or two:
Pros:
1) size and form factor is really nice - especially if you have low ceilings
2) low noise level comparatively - it all adds up and you will need to use hearing protection
3) ease of emptying dust bins - which hold a manageably low quantity
4) good suction - especially for the low noise emission level
5) remote control to turn on and off
6) reliability
7) good price if you catch a flash sale
8) delivery was smooth and reliable - absolutely no issues
9) prompt, courteous online support for supply orders, technical questions etc.
10) engineering and thought processes around the machine are overall step change improvements over the traditional vertical cyclone dust collector - especially if you have limited space or overhead clearance
Cons:
1) HEPA filters fill up quickly
2) very time consuming and mechanically tedious to remove HEPA filters to clean or replace,
3) the filter cleaning method is annoying - (remove cap, scoop pile of fine dust out of bottom of bowl under the filter with your hand, place inlet hose over outlet in back, run machine up to RPM, twist beater bar handles, turn off machine, clean seal on cap and replace it, repeat for the other side).
4) threads on my plastic filter cleaning cap are a bit shallow and fiddly to replace.
5) Dust bins rely on a rubber seal against the plastic dust bin liner that is wrapped over the edge of the steel dust bins to maintain a system seal. It is easy to have some small voids in the seal, which allows some dust to escape before the air goes through the filters.
Observation:
All of the filter 'Cons' seem to have been addressed by the next larger size Harvey dust processor, the Harvey G800, which is on sale for $6,000 (Jan 2023). Key improvements that I have noticed are:
1) beater bar filter cleaning system replaced by an 'air puffer' system, similar to some of the Festool CT vacuum systems. This is likely to be much better for the lifespan of the filter and the thoroughness of the self cleaning function. This also makes the system more or less self cleaning.
2) Filters appear to be much easier to access and remove for cleaning or replacement.
3) All that said, the unit does not have a significant increase in CFM or maximum static pressure, so some will be put off by that. But the usability may click some boxes for some users. The Bourbon Moth Woodworking RUclips channel recently put the G800 into their shop. I am hoping that he will post a review at some point, but he is now working on a TV show, so may not have the time.
Thanks for the video, I enjoyed you giving the plus and minuses of this machine. I was worried about space but never thought about being able to put a shelf above it for additional storage.

Finally, I have my G700 and metal ducting up and running and filled a couple bags of chips. A nice machine and the ducting was well worth the investment. And while the investment wasn't small, it is the most used machine in the shop. All the things I used to have to do with my old dust collector, such as constantly cleaning out the jointer and plane and checking the chip separator to see if it's full, I don't have to do anymore. And Harvey customer service has been very good as well.

Again, Great info video. I now have a Grizzly 3 H.P. built in '98. Loud isn't the word I'd use, it's more like a rock concert in my 27' x 30' shop! The slow start up time won't be a problem since it'll be on most of the day (I mill my own rough cut lumber). The ease of use and noise factor alone is a big selling point, but the foot print and filter cleaning are also an added bonus! I'm going to be looking into to this machine this evening. Thanks again for the info. on it.

Thanks for a well done review. I checked this DC out before going with a 2hp Shop Fox. Two issues for me: 1) most importantly for me is I needed at least 1500 cfm for my 3' x 5' CNC so at 700 cfm the Harvey doesn't have enough suck; and 2) the price. Harvey makes great tools, I own a Harvey TS and love it, that's why I looked at the DC systems.
I have an anemometer and checked the suction on my Shop Fox and it's pulling 1500cfm at the CNC running through an Oneida Super Dust Deputy on a 55gal drum.

I really appreciate your honest review! Lower noise is always a plus. Low noise is very high on my list of "wants". The deal-breaker for me is the start up time. I run the iVac system: I turn on the tool and the dust collector starts up. No remote to hunt for or carry around (where did I put the remote?!). I'm sure I could use the iVac system with this as well but my 5HP dust collector is at full speed in about 2 seconds.

Thanks Jason! I'm probably going to buy one next year for my new shop. I'll still use my big JDS cyclone for my tablesaw/bandsaw/sanders (dust producers) simply because it works well and the piping layout works better with two collectors since I'll minimize elbows and branching. Plus the cyclone will be external to the shop. The Gyro will be for the chip producers (20" planer & 8" jointer) and maybe a stationary sander because it'll be a very straight and short horizontal run for optimal performance. I'll likely invest in the Nordfab too.
I agree the location of the port really made me rethink everything too. Great advice on the soft start also! I wonder if cleaning out the filter ports with my HEPA-filtered Festool vac and a 2 inch wand wouldn't suffice instead of connecting the 4" to run back through the front. Finally, if the fine dust on the pleated filters goes back into the machine using the 4" re-vaccum system, aren't you just moving a lot of the same dust with some going into the bins and some back onto the filters? Seems like you're always "chasing" it.

I have actually used my Festool vacs to do that a couple times. Works well just takes a bit longer. And the majority of all that dust will drop back into the bags on a cleaning cycle.

Thanks Jason for your honest review of the Harvey Unit. . I am currently installing all my new and some used older functional tools in my new woodshop after a 20 year break from woodworking. I am on the fence with Oneida and Harvey. I looked at the Clearvue also and decided that Clearvue was too hodgepodge for me. My only issue with Harvey is that it is made in China and the fact the Company has not called me back after several attempts to reach out to Harvey. Oh and it cost quite a bit more than a V3000 Oneida. I have spoken to Tech Support and customer service at Oneida multiple times with great responses. I choose to wait for dust collection last to ensure that all my tools including CNC would have correct CFM of suction at each unit or multiple units if I have a helper(s) in my shop running several machines. EDIT: After logging into the Harvey page link the price is listed at half of what several big brand woodworking stores are selling the unit for. So I have to change my previous wording to reflect the cost are close. to each other for Harvey and Oneida.
Yeah, for some reason woodcraft and Rockler are selling the machines for over $4000. Why they still have the prices listed that way, I have no idea. The best way to buy it is directly from Harvey for sure. As for the machine, it has been great and I really enjoy having it in the shop!
Hi Jason. I looked at this machine before buying a 2hp Jet. It’s a very neat design and obviously very quiet but in the UK it costs about $5000! I got a deal on the Jet for around $1500 so there was really no contest. I’ve hooked the Jet up to steel ductwork with a minimal flexible duct as possible and the system works well.
I wish that I would have had this duct with my previous machine. Would have loved to see how it performed
The plug and play is the main thing I like.
I've had my G700 for 3-4 months now and I absolutely love it. I had a 2HP JET prior to this and the increase in suction is very noticeable. Both were using a Rockler anti-static hose and going from one machine to the other was like night and day. Definitely worth the investment.

@@mrt076 I mainly use mine with a table saw, router table, 8" jointer, 13" planer, 14" band saw and my miter saw station setup. I switch the hose between machines during use as I don't have the need or space for a dedicated ducting system.
Well presented 6-month review, Jason! No surprise that our sentiments are similar after using the G700 for awhile. BTW if/when you get around to doing the 'pant wye' type cleanout thing feel free to reach out to me on it if you want any beta on the build. It's a handy feature for cleanout, that's for sure, but you might come up with a better 'design' if you tackle it without foreknowledge too... Best, Matt

I have to say I was pretty eager for this follow-up review. I ended up grabbing one during their Cyber Monday sale ($2290) but it will be a bit before I get it and set it up. To those interested my advice is to keep checking the Harvey site. Along with traditional sale windows they infrequently have door buster sales and the unit price can drop below $2000. The US seems to have been a slow growth market for them, but it's picking up so those could be fewer and far between so definitely keep your eye out.
Yeah, the Harvey website is worth keeping an eye on. I have seen exclusive offered sent out via the email list as well.
@@bentswoodworking So I finally got the G-700 unboxed and in my testing I had two things I was curious on. There seems to be a moderately high-pitched frequency coming from the main motor/impeller/electric area. Did you notice that as well (I think I heard it on another review video as well)? It's most noticeable as the unit picks up speed and then is much less noticeable at max suction. I also get a very noticeable vibration/resonance within the chassis between 60-65Hz. My dB measurements were a bit higher than yours, but I also have a mostly empty fairly large garage with 12ft ceilings and no ducting yet, so sound reflection may be to blame.
The delays in the starting and stopping is because of the Accel & decel parameters in the VFD. Those are common parameters on all VFD's. I'm not sure what Harvey recommends, but you may be able to adjust those times to a shorter number to reduce that timeframe. Most Accel(eration) & Decel(eration) parameters are usually less than 2 seconds, unless the rotating mass is something real heavy, like a giant flywheel or something like that. Thanks for the video. I liked the clean out of the fine dust into the final filters. I did noticed how to tie both tubes together into one clean out, Nice. Now why not have that hooked into the primary intake with main suction. Have it cleaning out all the time.
Another excellent video, Jason. For my shop, the port is in a good spot. I'll probably get one in the spring when I start my annual shop upgrades. I'm just not looking forward to getting it off the pallet. Felder has been the only vendor to even mention ideas to get their product off the pallet. Time to rent an engine hoist. :)
Check out the other video I did on my DC and duct work when I got it. I was able to do it myself. It was much easier than I expected.

This video demonstrates some of the principles I used to move the Harvey G700, a Felder bandsaw and a jointer/planer into my basement workshop. The things he taught about using pry bars and blocks was super helpful. The other thing that was super helpful was a chainfall connected to an overhead beam as well as using small diameter pipes to roll machines over on the floor. I've owned the G-700 for over 2 years now. Pretty much everything you said about it is accurate. I can't say "everything" because I didn't watch the full video. Yes, it's quiet and it does a great job with dust collection, and I use standard HVAC ductwork, with taped joints. But when you're planing it gets filled up pretty fast. I had a 30 gallon drum on my DIY cyclone so I'm spoiled. When the bags are full, it's kinda hard to get them out without risking tearing. I'm still on the original bags but one is taped up a bit. And yes, the location of the inlet is poor.
I had one problem with the controller. Harvey made good on it immediately and sent me out a new one. Since my G-700 is tucked away a bit and under a table, I mounted the controller above the table. One other thing, the remote control "ON" button occasionally sticks and doesn't release. Usually I'd catch that but one time I didn't and it drained the batteries.
For the filter cleaning, I'd permanently connect the cleaning ports to the inlet via some blast gates so you don't need to move any hoses.

I think it is a nice piece of kit. When remodeling my shop this past summer, I decided NOT to go with the Harvey unit. For me, there were two issues: First, I don't have another 240v outlet available. Nor does the sub-panel in my shop have room to add another. The cost of replacing the entire sub-panel (and upgrading the wire running from the house to the shop so it could support the additional current draw) was prohibitive. The second issue is the footprint. My shop is very small and there isn't room to drag that machine from tool to tool, so I had to use ductwork. Like you, I found the inlet to the machine limiting.
I ended up creating my own cyclone with an Onida Dust Deputy and the impeller from an old HF dust collector. The entire cyclone is suspended from the cieling trusses and I have room underneath for a 54" wide, 44" tall, 28" deep rolling tool cabinet. My cyclone isn't as nice as the G700, but it works and takes up zero floor space.

It's an interesting design using a horizontal cyclone and I like that it is lower noise, but I wish it didn't take up so much floor space. Also inconvenient with the duct port location since that makes 5' or so of adjacent wall space unusable as well, so really this should be included in the footprint of the unit for anyone considering it.
It doesn’t take up anymore floor space than my previous unit but you have a valid point with the duct work for sure.

Great update and answers some of my issues with the G700. Yesterday I discovered that my remote control is not working. I changed the batteries but still, it does not work. I see the light in the remote coming on when I press the on or off buttons but the G700 does not react. I have to use the red/green button near the two that you should not touch on the G700. I'm about to send Harvey an email for more info about the remote.
I'm using 4" flex hose and realize that it will reduce the efficiency of the unit but for now, this is a must.
When I connect it to my Hammer A3-31 it does not provide enough suction to pull everything from the A3-31 and I have a mess around it. The A3-31 has three straight knives and this creates a problem for the G700, I'm constantly cleaning the main intake port as it gets plugged. I'm in the process of research to install a Byrd Shelix Head on the A3-31. The big bummer is that it will cost about $900 but it will provide much better results when either using the planer or jointer function.
Originally I had poor results with my router table where it had a 4" port for the collector under the router and a 2 1/2" port for the router bit. Both were connected via a Y in the main 4" line. I changed the Y to three 4" openings and this was a big improvement. Not as good as I'd like but acceptable.
I have not started to tackle the dust issues with my woodturning lathe.
BTW do you have a link for the video that Harvey provide you? I'd like to download it possible or at least view the video.
I do like the fact that it is much quieter, but still not 100% sold on the unit because of my issues.

@@bentswoodworking I gave up on the G700 and sold it. Currently, I'm using a Grizzly until my Clearvue 1800 with a 16" impeller (1,700 CFM) arrives. I started to put a 4" cyclone on the Grizzly but then I needed to modify the output and went back to the original Grizzly setup until the Clearvue arrives. The Grizzly seems to have more power than the G700 did. However, it is a bit louder, I measured 62 db for the noise level. It does get a bit annoying but I tune it out with my noise-canceling headphones.
Like you, I recently bought a house with a three car garage to use for my workshop. I took advantage of their discount online about a month ago and bought one. I haven't placed it permanently yet and use the hose they sent with it. IL like how it's movable and want to take advantage of that feature.

Same here! Mine arrived about two months ago. I want to mount a work surface on top that is able to move around with the machine. My only complaint is the cord length isn't long enough for where I want it in my shop. So I'll be changing that out sometime this winter.

That’s difficult to answer cause the scenario could be totally different. The biggest reason I got it is due to noise. I absolutely have the space for a larger machine now. As a one man shop, this suits my needs very well. If I had a huge shop with really long runs and a lot more duct work, or multiple people using multiple machines then I would probably get a larger machine for that purpose.
Good review and something I could definitely use in my shop. The current price they show is $3,199 though which is way more than some of the comments below where others have received a sale price near $2,000! That's a pretty steep difference.
Yeah, they have fluctuated the price quite a bit.
These things are £3500 here in the UK. That is ~$4700.

I appreciate the information and am torn between this and the Oneida Super cell. You’ve had this system for a while. How is it working for you? I run a one man, full time furniture shop. I purchase all my rough kiln dried lumber directly from a saw mill. Recently working on a black walnut table using 50 bf and a desk using 30 bf of hard maple. How does the drum handle this type of load? Have you had any issues with the filter clogging on you? How does it work with smaller tools such as random orbital sanders and routers?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jason. I've been thinking about getting the G700 or a Laguna P Flux. Space is a premium in my shop and I've been thinking if this machine can fit under the outfeed table then it might just be the edge it needs to beat the Laguna. Do you know if it fits under the ICS? Spec sheet says yes but always worth getting a second opinion.

Just wondering, if the dust that comes out of the filters at the clean out port is fine enough to make it past the two bins to the filters doesn’t it just go past the two bins and do the filters again when you use the machine to clean itself?
I purchased the bigger brother G800 and I am very happy with it . The noise level is amazing . The remote control super helpful once you get used to it. I only don’t get the programming part . The service here in China can’t or doesn’t really want to help me. I just don’t get the information displayed when the bags are full. The aftermath cleaning it up after overfilling the bags is crazy. All in all though it’s a fantastic machine which I only can recommend . And yes I added a strafe board on top of it as you mentioned planning to do. Can send you a picture . Maybe you could help me to get a real understandable pdf manual for programming the machine?

I love my Harvey G700. I had an Oneida 1.5hp cyclone I purchased used from my mentor(2007). It worked well but the noise was, well very loud. I agree with Jason about the placement of the intake. But the small horizontal footprint is a plus in my book. The suction is crazy. My Laguna 16HD has two dust ports. A 4" on the backside bottom and 2.5" on the side under the table next to the lower blade guide. With the Oneida, I had to use both ports. With the Harvey, I stopped using the 2.5" ...The bottom backside 4" is all I use to remove the debris. It is quiet! hands down. It does take some getting used to the windup of the motor but definitely not a show stopper for me.

Does anyone else have a serious vibration when operation at around 59 - 62Hz? Mine is brand new and I noticed that when it passes this area while being turned on/off or when trying to run it at less than full speed, I get a loud vibration noise. Placing my hand on it, it is obviously vibrating much more when at this speed.

I just run my midi with the Kapex.
You could have mentioned that this was the smallest of the Harvey units and that the larger units have auto dust pulse and trays for the fine dust.

A broom and dust pan and then go back with a shop vac. I used the Harvey initially, but a bunch of stuff got caught in the screen on the inlet and I lost suction. So now I don’t mess with it. I prefer the broom and dust pan honestly cause I can get in small spaces and don’t worry about a hose.
I have been considering purchasing one; however, the discounted prices keep changing. I saw it under $2,000.00 and now all over the place. It would be nice if it was under $2,000.00 for the holidays. Great video!

Totally agree Skip. I have never seen a company float a different price literally almost every single day. They seem to do this with their bandsaw and table saw as well. I made the mistake of buying this unit for $2399 on sale only to see it drop to $2100 the very next day when the sale was over. I asked for my $300 back but no go. I was going to buy their $2500 band saw but decided against it purely on the fact that they are all over the place with their pricing on this as well.

I've also heard that the spin up is about 5 seconds. I'd do what you did and just start the collector earlier than I currently do. Not a big deal. I'm very interested in this unit and have watched all the reviews. Looks great. My one remaining concern is reliability and how one would go about getting it repaired.
So far besides the VFD issue that my son caused I haven’t experienced any issues.
That was 22 seconds to full power (not 5). I had considered this machine, too, but ultimately went with the Oneida Supercell in large part due to this lag. It just doesn't work with my workflow (all my machines have iVac automatic gates and the DC turns on with machine power). Supercell is also on the quiet side, but not close to this one (but I'm ok with it as it's in a different room).
How did you gather the ducting and from where?
In the short clip of your 55gal drum from your old setup, what’s the bag holder/insert you had? I know Oneida has a solid sleeve but like the looks of what you had better.
It was a metal insert that came with it to stop the bag from sucking into the machine. It was actually a huge pain to remove.
Thanks for sharing your experience. For sake of space, I need to place the one I just ordered as close to the wall as possible. The instructions say to stay 18" off the wall, but you seem to have yours much closer. How close have you been putting yours to the wall and have you had any heat issues doing so? Also a dumb question: How long is the power cord and what type of 240V plug do they ship it with?

Great video, I also have this collector hard piped with pvc. I do notice that there is a lot of debris that gets trapped in the trap/grate directly before it enters the machine. Do you have the same issue?
I have and I wish I would have mentioned that during the video. It is actually something I like cause it stoped something from getting sucked into the machine once that could have damaged it. I found that as a positive but it’s also easy for me to clear it with the metal duct work.
Good video and it pushed me over the edge to purchase my own. Question though; the instructions say to have a gap of 18” or 500mm between the fan vent side and any obstruction. This will be a pain for me to follow. Can you tell me if you have your G700 tight into the corner of your workshop? Many thanks and keep up the good work!

I use the iVAC automatic blast gates with my current dust collector. When I turn on the applicable tool the dust collector automatically turns on and the applicable blast gate opens and closes. I just use it for my SawStop table saw, DeWalt planner, Delta jointer & Festool Kapex miter saw. There is also a remote you can use with other tools that have manual blast gates. The iVAC is terrific. Since there is a delay in the startup of the Harvey do you know if it is compatible with the iVAC? Another great video! Thanks
I Ivac would still work I’m sure because the gates are triggered by the current in the cable from my understanding.
So, being new to your channel, and this company (I was actually looking at some of their other products and came across this machine), can you tell me what size your shop is? I need something that is very space-conscious, being in a 25sqft garage. I had no intention of spending this kind of money, but love how compact it, quiet, efficient, and self-contained it is.

Jason - How well does this filter out the ultra fine dust that you get from a drum sander? I have a Supermax 19-38 and that thing cakes the inside of my aftermarket dust filter cartridge with powdery fine dust.
I haven’t had any reason to think it isn’t effective. There is no dust while I’m using my drum sander.

How many machines are connected to this collector? Do you have to have all the blast gates closed except for the machine you are using? I leave my table saw blast gate open all the time and just open the others when the machine is being used.
I usually have my CNC blast gate open about half way and then open each machine as I need them.

Their manufacturing and corporate base is in Yangzhou, China. Their presence in the US is simply distributional - no manufacturing here. They've been unloading their machines like crazy with YT woodworkers hoping to leverage the US market. And with a nice Anglo-Saxon name like "Harvey" who would ever think Chinese? These are standard tactics among Chinese companies...hiding their origins.
By the way, have you ever wonder what happened to Bridge City Tool Works? Yep, Harvey bought them out and moved everything to China. Ya have to dig a bit to find this information, and there's much more to be found. You're welcome!

Why have you not pointed out that the founder of Bridge City Tool Works worked very closely with Harvey staff including an extended trip to China to go over the finer points of prepping the various high end hand planes and other products to meet his high standards. He was planning to lead a second trip to China as a tech tour, but had to cancel because of COVID-19. Go read the blog posts on this transition and you will see John's views on quality and you will also find the earliest reviews of the G700. Bridge City Tool Works products are now made in Nanjing China.
@@steveh8724 You need to educate yourself on Chinese business and cultural practices. I have no doubt the founder of Bridge City Tool Works came away from his trip to China thoroughly impressed. They always do. The Chinese have been quite adept at using front-stage/back-stage tactics when doing business. They are masters at putting on a great show for prospective clients, buyers and sellers. Unfortunately, it's all theatre and nothing more.
I suggested reading Paul Midler's best-selling book "Poorly Made in China. An Insider's Account of the China Production Game," (his 1st book) and then read Midler's second book "What's Wrong with China." Midler does a fantastic job of linking the historical and cultural features of the Chinese people and their business proclivities, stretching from the 19th century to the present day.
Thank you so much for these videos. Couple of Harvey questions. I've been told that the Harvey G 700 is not so well suited to chips created by the likes of planer thicknesses/jointers and is better suited to fine dust such as created by table and bandsaws saws. I see that you have a Hammer jointer in your workshop - have you had any issues with your Harvey collecting planer chippings? Secondly would placing a cyclone in line be beneficial to collect such chippings? Sorry for bombarding you with these questions but I am very close to making the Harvey purchase. I really want this solution to work for me! Thank you in advance... Please keep the videos coming....
I do have the hammer A3-41. It doesn’t collect 100%, but I’ve never had 100% dust collection on a jointer or a planer. What it leaves behind is very minimal. It does a very very good job at collecting the majority of it. To the point where I might have a small amount around the base of the machine that I just sweep up when I do my shop cleanup.
@@bentswoodworking So it sounds like you have not had problems with larger chips being sucked up at the planer intake, but not reaching the bins? I think that was the concern from 567. I haven't had any problems with planer chips, but I only have a 12" planer with a Shelix cutterhead, so I don't generate large chips.
One question I have about your G 700. I've noticed in the design of it, dust/chips pass through the impeller to get to the cyclone portion of the machine. Unlike a standard cyclone separator where the chips/dust are removed before the impeller. My question/concern is, does it get dust buildup on the impeller which would slowly decrease its performance.
Don't you just love those short assistants? They can get in those tight places where you can't or don't want to, but sometimes they're horrible at following directions... 🤪🤯😉

Do you use the G700 for dust collection on your smaller machines and tools, I'm thinking mitersaw, router table, sanders etc. I see from your shop tours that you have many festool tools. Are they connected to a festool dust extractor? Could the G700 do double duty with this type of equipment? Thanks

Any thoughts on the G700 vs the G800? I have several large tools that produce a lot of debris. I will be asking Harvey this same question but thought maybe you already answered it yourself.
I find this dust collector interesting. Based on your experience with it's construction, do you think you could get it, safely, down a flight of stairs into a residential basement (where my workshop is)?
I think you could with a couple people and some ingenuity. I don’t think it would be a ton of fun

There is an indicator light and the machine will actually shut off when it’s activated

I love the form factor and easy bag changes. The dust port location is a deal breaker for me, as is the slow startup. I use iVac Pro to automate gates and collector when powering on a few tools (table saw, lathe, router), and there's no way I would turn on a tool and wait that long for the dust collector. Thanks for this review though, it was very helpful in understanding the pros and cons.
Someone actually mentioned from this video that I may be able to change one of the settings on the VFD to speed up the start. I’m actually gonna email them and see if that’s the case. A few others wrote me and said that theirs turns on much faster.
@@bentswoodworking I think it's clear that your son was trying to do you a solid by reprogramming your VFD to decrease the ramp up time following a start-up command. Someone probably interrupted him before he finished, and then taught him not to touch the controls. So now you'll have to get the VFD manual and figure it out for yourself.

I enjoy mine, the only additional down for me is where the power is. Unit sits under a bench, too troublesome to use the power switch on back. Wish it was front of the machine. End up engineering a switch on the power line ...

First and foremost thank you for your service. I was very interested in the G700 until I went to the website and discovered that it is 220V/3 Phase. I know 3 Phase is much more efficient to run but what did it take to get 3 Phase into your home? Did the power company run it to the house or did you have to purchase a phase converter? While I am no expert on electrical motors it usually requires a start capacitor to get a single phase motor going and 3 phase motor does not. Is this the reason for the slower ramp up of the motor speed? Thanks for a very informative video.
It’s not 3 phase. The only 3 phase machine is the G1000. It’s just standard 220. It also runs on a VFD. Hope that helps you out. 👍👍

As someone who also has a small-ish shop and is always trying to optimize floorspace, I agree the machine's inlet placement couldn't be worse. And second, the total effective footprint is too big on the floor, esp considering how that inlet is oriented, you really lose twice the footprint to have room for the inlet ductwork. Just look at how much floorspace he's not able to use for tool stations or anything else because of the machine itself, the inlet ductwork placement and orientation, and the allowance for filter cleaning. In my 400 sq ft shop I could never lose that much floor space to the dust collector. I love the idea of this machine but I think they need to go back to the drawing board and make a new version 2.0. I would love to see them make a "tower" version where the machine is tall with a much smaller footprint, the inlet can be placed up high, the gauges and displays are at eye level, and any filter cleaning is done out of the front of the machine instead of on the side. p.s. yes I realize that the separation canisters have to be oriented horizontally, but Harvey should be able to figure that out. If I did buy one of these, I would be extremely tempted to take it apart and try to move the impeller and motor so they are up off the floor and can be oriented out of the way. p.s.s Harvey claims their dual horizontal separation is revolutionary and superior to a classic cyclone, and it sure looks slick, but I would like to see some evidence or side by side comparisons to convince me. When he demonstrated the filter cleaning, there sure was a lot of dust down in there. Just sayin' -- makes me wonder how good the separation really is. p.s.s.s. why does this machine need a VFD / variable speed? Seems like it adds cost and complexity (and delays on startup) without adding any real benefit. I would just want it to provide maximum suction always. Any scenario where "light" suction is needed, like finish sanding, I would just do with my Feestool vac and not this beast.
You discussed the CFM, but what is the filtration of the air put back into your shop? BTW, this is a VERY timely review as I have a Jet DC-1500, about 30 years old with lousy 30 micron bags, that I’m looking to replace! As a result, I either have cross ventilation through my shop when it’s in use (in nice weather in spring or fall), or I’m wearing a P100 respirator (in the heat of the summer or depths of the winter). The other question I have is: seeing that it is more complex than a cyclone / HEPA filter dust collector, what are the wear points and maintenance routine? Many thanks!!
These are questions I can’t really give you the answers that you are looking for. I don’t run any sort of air quality monitor at the moment. As for the maintenance, besides going through the cleaning cycle that I discussed in the video each time I change out the bags, I haven’t really done anything else.

Since around 2019 the G700 has been shipping with HEPA filtration at the final stage (the two pleated column filters). The filter unit is replaceable (~$300), but I've yet to see anyone say they have had to replace the original filter. So I guess it depends on use, but I don't consider it a routine maintenance item especially for non-commercial shop environments. The rest of the components should last for many, many years and aren't really wear components. The impeller, motor, and VFD are all top-notch. And the engineering of the 3 stage separation paths has no moving parts. The air flow does all the moving beyond the impeller.
Thank you for this. How well does it work with your cnc? With a standard shop vac into a 3" dust shoe, I'm finding its having problems with chips 2" away from the dust shoe inlet. I watched a recent video from Stumpy Nubs which helped me understand why the shop vac will never work well with the cnc, so hoping the G700 will help.
The cnc is my farthest run, about 30 feet. Collects 99.5% with the dust shoe on, probably 90 without it. It’s awesome
@@bentswoodworking It went on sale today which I was waiting for. Because of the position of the inlet, I may want to move it closer to my metal cutting cnc. How much dust escapes from the 3 exhaust panels? I'm guessing not much since you didnt mention it.
Honestly, I have even looked or thought of it being an issue. When it doing it’s job I am looking at a piece of wood that is being cut lol. I’m not even sure if I would see anything if I was looking cause it would probably be so fine of it was there.
@@bentswoodworking Holy cow. Its awesome! I thought I'd update you since you get a lot of questions. I have it sitting directly under my cnc table. I was concerned with EMI issues, but I've only had one. That's when I was adjusting the VFD while the CNC was cutting. Other than that, no issues. I have a 2-1/2" flex hose running to my dust boot. Even at 50 hz it picks up 99% of the dust. Amazing. I turned the lights off in the shop today and used a flash light near the exhaust while it was running. Cant see much of anything escaping. Thank you again!
I was going to order an Oneida 5 hp Dust Gorilla Pro tomorrow and now I decided to purchase the Harvey, just waiting for it to go back on sale, have you run two tools at once? if so, was it able to handle both machines? I plan on purchasing a CNC and may run the CNC and one other tool at the same time...im a very serious woodworking hobbyist and in a wheelchair and this unit looks easy for me to move around if need be,thanks for the video, it was helpful
I have run the CNC and other tools at the same time. Not as good as just one tool obviously but is acceptable for me.

Jason love your show and following your advice I bought one to work exclusively on my cnc. When I plug it in to 220v and turn it on the red digital numbers come up but it won’t start when I press the green start button - the dust box is closed and locked - am I missing something? Can’t help thinking something very simple here but frustrating the hell out of me
It’s likely programmed to the remote. It is programmed to one or the other

Hey Jason, want to get a G700 and have a question...How long can I run the ducting without worrying about losing the suction needed?
Can it run 20' with a couple bends if it is done in rigid the way you did yours? How far does yours run?
I have run a pair of 4" flex hoses from my G700 around a corner to my Felder bandsaw with no issues clearning the sawdust it produces. The distance from the G700 to the bandsaw is about 24 feet.
