      Last question, haha. In the video you say that the front was lifted 3" and the rear 1.5", but you have listed a 2.5" level kit? Can elaborate more?

    • @TheFabricatorSeries
      @TheFabricatorSeries  5 лет назад +4

      @@danielsandoval634 That was total net clearance gained after leveled and tires installed. The front was spaced 2 inches and the tire lifted the truck another 1.5 inches. The rear was left alone so just the additional height of the tire was added to net clearance gain.

I have the same 20in wheels and 35in tires with 1.5 spacers, on my 2012 EXPY MAX, with 3.5/ 2.5 level kit, Everyone on the web said it wouldn't fit,even the folks on Ford Forum said you can't make it fit, well you and I are proof of what you can accomplish when you don't take NO for an answer. when i worked at 4 wheel parts, we did some border patrol trucks. 35s with new wheels with a little more offset and zero lift. trimmed the front plastic and rear plastic. also took off the inner fender and had to cut the pinch seem in 2 inch sections and bend it over. no rub no steering issues.

  • @jpowell9343
    @jpowell9343 5 лет назад +6

    Had experience with the lift you used, the thing that happens is stress on the upper ball joints and they will go bad in no time because of the angle.
    A good kit will have new control arms to compensate for that angle.
    Nice video, good job taking the time to explain things.

    You're right about wheel spacers being perfectly safe although loctite is your friend there. It aggravates me too when people start a rant about them. The only thing spacers or negative offset rims will do is throw off your scrub radius, but if you don't care than go for it.

    I put 3.5in leveling struts with new upper control arms that correct upper ball joint angle, and installed 4in block in the back. looks great, you'd swear it had a 4in lift all the way around. NOW, the down side to it. the front axles were on a horrible bind going over small obstacles, rocks, bumps in the road, speedbumps. it wore out my front axle support bushings, my inner axle bearing on the passenger side, ruined my 4x4 actuators, and passengers side hub bearing in 8 months. I'm installing a real 6inch lift now with front and rear cross members and diff drop brackets to return everything to factory geometry, I would not recommend a leveling kit beyond 2-2.5 inches. just don't do it.

    • @regularguyfixes3142
      @regularguyfixes3142 5 лет назад +1

      I purchased my 12 f150 already lifted. Block in the back. I can't tell how the front is lifted but my upper control arms are pointing like to 7:00. Not sure what angle that is. I know that's supposed to be level. I can't see any spacers. But the truck rides like crap that's for sure. Bumps go through the entire truck. Not to mention brand new set of 305s ATs I put on a year ago now have the diagonal warps in them. Tires are so dam loud slapping the pavement. My plan is to put the real 6" lift as well to hopefully get a better ride and I'm pretty sure all factory shocks were left when lifted which to me puts the shock extended all the time which I'm thinking is not how it was designed which may also cause the ruff ride. My has factory fender flares so I'm pretty sure this was all dealer done but def not the right way.

    16:44 adds up to 985.38 and you didn't count your time your time is worth something. Also no need to spin the hat. Also, loosen upper and lower control arms slightly makes it a ton easier and faster in the end. May want to clarify that you're taking the brake line and speed sensor wires loose from the knuckle not actually taking it off the caliper. Also, tighten wheel nuts in a Criss-Cross pattern to prevent warping brake rotors (yes I know you trust your gun but if you're going to be an example you should use best practices. Torque wrenches save lives from weak batteries and DIYers cheap impact guns)

    normally, how much is the labor cost for installing the leveling kit?

  • @michaeloswalt2135
    @michaeloswalt2135 5 лет назад +2

    1 1/2 " in the rear and 3 1/2" in the front end @ 18:55.. Is that the total over all height that You got with the tires? The reason I ask? You said you used a 2" leveling kit. I have Confusion on the wheel spacers... I have been told 33" tire will rub with a 2" kit. Do you get enough clearance with 35" tires?

      2” lift and 1.5” for the difference in tire size, so a net lift of 3.5 in the from and 1.5 in the rear

      2013 used a differnt style shock. 2014s started using the same as the 15 as ford was already converting machines in plants for production- actual quote when I called ford asking why the hell my shit was different

    Did you have any wheel rubbing and if not do you think a 2in wheel spacer

  • @Titantramp4u
    @Titantramp4u 5 лет назад

    OK...was going to let this one go...but just couldn't...sorry...When lifting a coil over setup with a spacer added on top of the shock on a IFS 4wd front end, it's not recommend (by me, and others) because it will add more CV joint angle then there were designed for...AND the factory upper arm runs out of angularity at the ball joint real fast...yes some trucks will just squeak by and others will cause premature failure...I'm just saying...:)
    I take my trucks to the desert to run, (not race...)including Baja runs and I'm always critical of changes that don't get thought thru and leave me or someone else stuck with a broken truck in the middle of nowhere...Was just out playing in the desert today, doing a Poker Run with my 18' Raptor...had a great time...

    if your building an offroad truck with less than 42" tires please go smaller rims then 20" cheaper tires for price, better offroad and ill cringe less in mall parking lots lol

      PLUS, when offroad you are going to want to air down so having enough side wall to air down is crucial. I like 17in rims with 35in tires. There is a reason they use 17in wheels with 35" tires on the raptor.

    It's been nearly 30 years since I did an alignment, but we used to have a little spring loaded device that would sit in the seat and hold the steering wheel in place. We did this before taking the readings to determine if adjustments were needed.
    Has the process changed that much, or just the lack of common sense of the people employed in these shops?

    • @TheFabricatorSeries
      @TheFabricatorSeries  4 года назад +1

      I was an alignment tech many years ago and remember using the same device. I think it's just lack of caring that the alignment wasn't satisfactory.

    Can’t you just switch the right and left strut assemblies? Just have to bend the bottom to match the opposite angle. 5:53 this seems like a lot of unnecessary work (put a slightly different style on my expedition, but exact same 180 twist issue).

    So I should only need 1.5” wheel spacers on a bone stock 2013 4x4 F150 eco to run 33x12.5 on factory 18” rims? Would I need to add the spacers on the back tires as well?

    So you were saying that as long as you run a hun centric wheel spacer you will be good does it matter what size of one you run I always thought 2in was ok but what if you run a 3 just wondering though. Thanks
