I'm 43. I was in the highschool swim and tae kwon do varsity team. I didn't have self doubt issues back then. At present I'm a competitive shooter and I've been plagued with self doubt to the point that I still greatly doubt my own abilities and even envy newcomers who do well even if I have come a very long way and consider myself to be close to professional level shooters... if my head game is on point. I'm subscribing and thank you greatly for this video. I want to be free of this and am committing myself to learning how to manage self doubt. hope you are doing well. cheers!

      Oliver,
The key issue for any competitive shooter is learning how to control your pre and during performance focus of concentration. This means that you need tp learn to keep your focus on the feel of what you're doing, specifically the feel of your shot process. When you focus on feel, you stay calm and loose, have confidence and perform the way you're capable of.
      thoughts
negativeanytheyreplace them with positive thoughts. When you engage these negatives in these ways, you'll only create more performance problems and lack of confidence.
So the skill you need to develop is to learn how to have a neutral response to your last minute negative thinking and doubts and allow them to pass by. You do this by learning to refocus your concentration on what you're doing in your shot plan, to the feel of this.
If you'd like more detailed training in this I'd recommend that you look into my latest audio training program and guidebook, Performing Like A Champion - From performance Blocks To Performance Breakthroughs. You can find more about it here if you're interested:

Shooting is both a skill and mind game. Funny story: I went to my first sanctioned match. They started with a very simple drill for everyone as the first stage. I was with a number of high level shooters and worried about what they thought of me and how I would perform. I bombed hard at a simple task and was sooo embarassed. After that, I wasn't concerned about impressing anyone and knew I had to be in last place already. I then just relaxed and enjoyed shooting the rest of the match since I no longer worried what others thought. I had ammo, sunshine, some good company, and plenty of fun. At the end, I was shocked beyond belief when they called out my name for 2nd place in my division. I hadn't even check the scores since I knew it was bad and didn't want to see it. The mind is a funny thing.

I have had to put my competition training on the back burner as I deal with family health issues and other demands that are taking priority right now, though not related to covid19. That doesn't mean that I am not listening to your videos and taking notes so that I can implements these techniques when I get back to shooting. This video was extremely helpful, mainly because you mentioned that this was an elite level skill. This video was almost like you were talking to me specifically. Thank you very much for doing these videos.
