I LOVE THIS RECIPE!!! I am fairly new to Korean culture (our 26 yr old daughter got me into Korean music a year and a half ago~love all the genres, rock, pop, jazz & of course have been watching Kdramas for the same amount of time). So that said, Who has NOT seen Alchemy of Souls? Where have you been?😂😂That drama is where I saw these honey cookies for the first time and my cousin and I (she is a superb cook and baker) have been searching for the perfect recipe for these wonderful cookies. We found miniature versions in our favorite International market but there's NOTHING like homemade!! And this recipe is so good! I love to cook (from a family of cooks & food lovers😂) and grew up with a lot of international friends (Japanese, Portuguese, Cuban, Italian) so I have been exposed to a lot of different foods and techniques in various recipes. So one day while beginning my culinary journey into preparing and cooking some of the Korean dishes I see in Kdramas I found your website! I have tried so many of your recipes and I have to say ALL of them turn out perfect! My husband and daughter are really enjoying everything and we love that it's all so healthy as well. Anyway, super happy to have found this honey cookie recipe and your wonderful RUclips videos. You do a great job of explaining and sharing your wonderful culture thru some amazing dishes!! Thank you so much and sending you lots of Blessings and hoping that you continue on for many more years to come!
Oh my.. I'm just so happy to read your thoughtful comments! Thank you soo much for cooking my recipes and appreciating them. I haven't seen Alchemy of Souls yet - now I want to!!
My friend just sent me these from Korea (I’m from Canada) and WOW what a unique delicious treat. I wanted to see if I could make it myself at home. I’m a good baker but haven’t always had the best luck frying pastry, we’ll see how it goes.
@@Kimchimari my cat Cleo is 18 and it's the same! oh, and thank you for letting me know that recipe is already up! it looks pretty amazing with the layers. the science of why the soju works (alcohol reduces gluten formation and provides water to steam and form the puffiness; the sesame oil makes the layers separate) also totally makes sense to me.
@@DianeH2038 I knew you would get it! Pretty ingenious how one decided to try using soju in the dough and some decided not to use it. Two recipes resulting in very similar flavor but very different textures!
Well, I'm not a honey expert but from my quick research, there are some chemical changes that happens and it no longer may have the benefits of raw honey but I don't believe it will be toxic. If you are worried about it, just use something else like corn syrup or some other sweetener that's similar to honey in consistency and sweetness.

HAHA Always!! I used to edit it out before but now I gave up. He will be in there regardless... thank you Diane!
@@Kimchimari you bet! I'm definitely going to try making these... or maybe the super-crispy ones you're going to post next! also I love Spock!
Yes the video is coming up soon but the recipe is already up there. Btw Spock is now 11 yrs old and have become such a picky eater!!

I don’t have rice flour, is there any I can use to sub for that?? I cant wait to make it!^^
You can just omit rice flour and use regular flour only. Here's my recipe that uses only regular flour - kimchimari.com/yakgwa-or-yakwa/
Oh my😊❤yummm
Thank you for the recipe! They say we shouldn’t heat honey ~ it makes honey toxic. Any explanation for this point? Thank you in advance

For the sweet rice flour, mochiko or shiratamako?
Mochiko will work fine!
@@Kimchimari is that what you used? I have shiratamako on hand 😭
@@mizuki_1516 oh shiratamko should work fine too!
Hello can i use rice mirin instead of rice syrup?
No, sorry, they are totally different things. Mirin is a sweet wine. If you want a substitute, you can try using corn syrup instead.
Can I only use all purpose flour? I don’t have rice flour
Yes, there's actually another recipe that uses only ap flour. kimchimari.com/yakgwa-or-yakwa/
@@Kimchimari thank you🤍 but I’m a Muslim I can’t drink soju
@@rafal_kn Oh ok then you can just use ap flour in this recipe. It will kind of crumble but may be ok.
Reminds me of baklava
I know.. it's very similar!
