    Got my Starlet xs this past friday. And coming from a 2020 vw polo vivo i can honestly say it is a huge upgrade. Everything on the Starlet is just better that the polo. And for those going to drive a starlet for the first time.....there is a blue light coming on when starting the vehicle when its cold. Its the engine level coolant. In short the vehicle shows you the engine os still cold. But after a minute or 2 driving or idling it wil disappear. Enjoy your Starlet.

    Buy whatever design you like Suzuki comes with better specs though. Nevertheless people like the Toyota badge. At the end choosing the starlet you are practically buying the badge not a real Toyota. As for resale value people who don't change their cars for years must not worry too much about resale value better look at affordability price of spare parts and their availability. Suzuki and toyota are reliable brand and I don't see any wisdom in taking a car loan or save to buy a car and sold it in a few years I would rather use my brand new car for 20 years, take care of it well, do it's servicing with genuine parts and enjoy my ride. People tend to chose cheap and below standard spare parts and ruin the car. A good and honest mechanic also matter.

The boot release button sometimes works. This is on 21 working day back order after a visit to Suzuki. Other than that and a rattle in the dashboard, it is a nice car that drives smoothly in traffic and short highway trips. The front seats seem a bit "unsturdy" though.

    It's the exact opposite in India. But Toyota still fetches better resale value. But Suzuki has service centres everywhere and has cheaper service cost. Suzuki has close to 50 percentage of the Indian passenger car market share.

    • @JA-rn5qv
      @JA-rn5qv 2 года назад

      Suzuki used to have 70% of the Indian car market but as India emerges from poverty and other newer players come in to the Indian market (KIA, Hyundai etc) and other Indian brands dramatically improving their own designs Suzuki is loosing the once firm grip in had on the Indian car market. I think this is why Suzuki is trying even harder now to impress with new models that have obviously had greater design investment in them such as the new S-Cross, the new XL7, the new Grand Vitara, and of course Baleno and Ciaz. So far the results have been good in that these new models have been getting very good reception even outside of India with their new design language which is a step up from what they used to be and more on-par on something that would come out of Toyota or Honda. The only weak point for them at this point when it comes to sales outside of India is that each country has it's own franchise or importer for Suzuki vehicles and they can price the Suzuki models as they wish which from one country to the next can be quite a bit of difference and in some cases, the local importer is adding so much mark-up that it makes the Suzuki models less competitive even though in all other regards the Suzuki models would compete quite well against any of the similarly priced competition.

      They did that with the SX4 model (2010 through 2013) which the previous version (2006 trough 2009) had the 5-spd manual mated to the J20A engine. When the SX4 was updated with a J20B engine they also updated the manual transmission to a 6-spd manual BUT... the final gear was still the same ratio as it was in the 5-spd, so in the end, freeway driving was still exactly the same, no extra MPG's and revs still up near the 3000 RPM range. With the 6-spd you just had more shifts to do to get to 6th gear but you weren't any better off for it.

      All that needs to happen now is for Toyota to sell off their Hilux, Fortuner, Corolla, Rav4, LandCruisers, FJ, Quantum, Hi-Ace, Yaris, Prius etc. and become a Mothership, aka Holding Company for those brands... What could be better? Super lazy!!!
      No guys! It's not laziness on behalf of Toyota! It's simple economics (and some espionage) 101. By Toyota adopting the chassis of other brands, they drive the collective price to manufacture those chassis, down, making the cars a fair bit cheaper than what you and I would otherwise have to pay! Don't just look at the surface, but dare to look a bit deeper; and you could actually begin to make sense of this whole platform sharing idea. Toyota is not the only manufacturer that does it. Look at Renault\Nissan, Kia\Hyundai etc. Many are doing it for the sake of gaining a competitive edge when it comes to pricing in the market! Now, compare that to brands like Mercedes and BMW, who are generally reluctant to share intellectual property and are very seldomly doing "platform sharing". Then look at where their prices start on their ENTRY LEVEL cars! Yes, they've always been more expensive than most but not by as much as we've seen in recent years! They just can't keep up with the price race! An Entry Level Mercedes A class costs more than twice the price of the top spec Baleno. Yet, it does not have twice the amount of sheet Metal, twice the amount of wheels, twice the amount of glass, twice the amount of seats, twice the amount of engine capacity or twice the amount of anything! Yes, it's a much nicer cabin to be in with a lot more spec (not that much more though), that's it! - But the question is, why on earth does that car, have to be over 120% more expensive? For over 600k you can get a very nice SUV of another brand which also has a very nice interior, a lot more space and comes with all the bells and whistles you ever need, to boot!!! That is why platform sharing is making a lot of sense for a lot of manufacturers! And for as long as that is the case, platform sharing will be here to stay.

    • @yissibiiyte
      @yissibiiyte 2 года назад +1

      @@schlix101 there's a big difference between platform sharing and what Toyota are doing. In a lot of cases what Toyota are doing is not platform sharing, it's just badge engineering. In vehicles sharing a platform there are still plenty of differences between them in terms of exterior styling and sheet metal, and material quality and features. Toyota on the other hand take a Baleno, do absolutely NOTHING to it, and stick a Toyota badge on it. In short, you are being ripped off when you opt for the Toyota regardless of the model because the Baleno has more features at the end of the day. What Toyota SA is doing is a DISGRACE.

    NB, the Starket XR is nearly the same price as a base model 2022 Polo TSI.

      It really is appearing that way with how much their cars are improving and especially exterior and interior design. Main reason that is happening is the old man Osamu Suzuki FINALLY retired. He was the stingiest penny pincher in the auto-industry. He was constantly cutting cost on every level, from the design team all the way down to production, even how much paint they would use on the factory floor lol. So the design and production team always had super tight budget but now that he has finally stepped down, the new president is being more appropriate with budgets including giving the design team more control over the final product. Now we are seeing the results, in Baleno, Ciaz, XL7, Vitara, S-Cross, and new Grand Vitara. There are still 2 more SUV's that haven't even been released yet as well as an up-coming 4-door Jimny.

    I was looking at the Starlet, but the economics favours the Balino. You're making a R20k saving vs Starlet. 15 000km extra service plan. Etc. If you add the extra service, you're already sitting at R25 000 saving vs Starlet

      There is one big difference though. You can see many 20 to 30 year old Suzuki's still running perfectly all over the world, but you rarely see 20 to 30 year old Hyundai's still running anywhere. There is a reason for that.

    I live outside of ct, so travel highway, outlying roads so not just in the city. Have 2 questions, as i have looked at this car and going to see the fronx soon. The gl only has 2 airbags vs 6 in glx... how safe do you think the gl-the car in general is , supposed to have side impact door beams, as per the manual but salesman says it doesn't. Latin ncap gave it a 0 after side crash results,must still be tested by other facilities. Also, did you experience any crosswinds as i get that on open roads. Hate wind so that would deter me from buying any car if it gets played around with too much. I also drive on gravel at times, do you think this can handle a few gravelly roads. Not heavy duty rutted grondpad. If both gl cars are safe enough ,fronx might be better suited. Have owned ix35,various Tucson, 4x4 ranger. Suzuki offering so much for good price. Ps need to change to an automatic after injury to left foot and back, hence looking at these cars.

      I very much like both companies, they both make very reliable cars with Toyota having focused on mass marketing where as Suzuki focused more on emerging markets and niche vehicles. I've owned many Suzuki's and like you, the reason I ended up with the Suzuki brand is that they offered Toyota like reliability but without the overwhelming saturation of models from Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc. Suzuki was the answer.
