Japanese and Korean cars have shown how they're reliable. I believe the German automaker have gotten comfortable with charging crazy amounts for the bare minimum and options Personally, I believe completion is good. It opens up space for innovation and new ideas. The usual legacy brands have been too comfortable with giving our Market the bare minimum. I believe brand loyalty is so absurd, besides being budget-friendly. Asian car makers are designing better cars It's like someone going and buying a brand-new Renault Kwid. Like that car is a joke compared to what you can get on the second-hand market for that price and still be left with change
I bought a used VW last year, but I’m unlikely to buy a German car (used or new) next time around. Chinese OEMs have improved in tech and build quality over the years, so that coupled with competitive pricing is a recipe for success. Legacy OEMs have become complacent. They’re facing a lot of pressure globally. I hope the consumer comes out on top!
Its seriously not just that these German cars are expensive, its mainly because Since Thabo Mbeki left office the South African economy has not grown but shrank. The GDP in 2008 was $460 billion dollars, electricity price R0,42 kWh, Petrol R7,40/L and Rand/Dollar Exchange $/R7,80. Under Zuma and Ramaphosa GDP $368 Billion & $386 Billion respectively, electricity price R0,80 kWh and R2.00 kWh respectively, Petrol R14,00 and R23,00 respectively, Rand/Dollar Exchange R14,40 and R18,40 respectively. You see we have gotten poorer and our buying power has been greatly reduced to a point salary doesn’t beat inflation. Given the choice most South African would choose German cars thus affecting Chinese sales, now we are finding even the Chinese cars are getting expensive due to import duty tax now we cant even afford New Chinese cars. Soon we will be going to work on horses
The Chinese vehicles offer luxury at affordable prices. Considering the economic climate we are dealing with, the more affordable option is attractive. Especially, when the Chinese-make vehicles also look good.
Big ups to you and the effort you put into these videos mate! Legacy carmakers need to fix their pricing! R900k for an entry level 3 Series is criminal!
Thank you for the nice video. Chinese car brands are taking over Europe too. For many years, China has been the largest and still remains the largest global car market with German car brands taking the top spots and the largest revenue earner for German economy. Today, most of them have been replaced by Chinese brands due to very stiff competition on the Chinese car market that has more than 100 local Chinese car brands in addition to the foreign brands. Additional factors such as affordability, improved trust in quality and reliability in Chinese cars, futuristic electronic car tech, gov't support especially in the move into electric vehicles in which the country is leading in the global EV market are also very key. Today, China is leading in EV batteries technology and the top German car brands such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes that are turning into EVs are also relying on the Chinese EV batteries and software, and the same is true for Tesla that sees BYD and CATL batteries as more superior and reliable. E.g due to such stiff competition, few months ago, Japanese auto makers dismantled BYD car in search for their secret in success.
Over the years these Chinese brands will eventually be pricy as well and the market will even itself out again, remember how cheap Hyundai was when it just came out, or Toyota for that matter, Havar has just started to raise the price, Tigo will follow soon...but i think, just like mobile fones, most cars on the market will be Chinese in future
I love a good kislux because it helps me decide if I want to buy the real thing or NOT." That part right there. That's IT. I feel like people stigmatize dupes but for me, I pause on large purchases that are trendy or when I feel the overconsumption mania setting in FOR ME. (It's something I struggle with LOL! I'm easily convinced to buy things I don't wear or use. They'll literally have the tags and I'll even forget I bought something and have 2 or 3 of them in my closet.) Love this video!
I like what China is doing but they must also be careful. I feel like cars in SA are just super expensive. Imagine buying a car for R700 000 🤔 or R350 000. It's just ridiculous
My biggest gripe with the Chinese cars is that very few of the better models offer a manual gearbox option. As somebody who absolutely hates automatics with every fibre of my being that's just not good enough! Bring us something that the driving enthusiast can get excited about and they will absolutely dominate the market.
@@Turtleback8024 Why should I? Automatics are boring and uninvolving to drive! I actually enjoy the experience of driving and will hang on to my manual as long as I drive a car with petrol engine. When I upgraded my car last year I overlooked 4 or 5 manufacturers for the simple reason that they didn't sell a manual - that's their loss not mine ;)
@@BobyourUncle There is a small number of you hanging on to the manual idea. Don’t hype yourself like that and expect us to agree. You are not their target market if thats what you want. They will decide to include ya’ll in the future, maybe! Then again it is your problem, i’ll leave you alone. Your next problem is electric cars i presume….
an important factor that must not be forgotten is that the Chinese government subsidizes their car manufacturers for the export market which is why they can sell such feature rich products at highly competitive prices, I imagine for the purpose of pushing other manufacturers out of as many markets as they can, who knows what the prices will look like once the government cash injection expires.
This is not true. This is what the Germans and Americans want you to believe. China sells many millions of cars and are efficient producers with low systemic costs allowing them to offer value. Also they take less profit to build volume and customer loyalty.
I've seen this coming for a while. They will definitely take over whether we like it or not. I've always loved the Germans, European and American cars but they simply don't make any sense for a lot of people anymore. Perhaps they need a wake up call to what the people want. I guess this makes them a little more special for those who get them. Either way, the tables have turned
We have universities ranked higher in Africa producing scientists and engineers every year, yet we can't do crap our own. It's just embarassing to say the least.
It's probably not a matter of skill but money. Also, cars need different components which need money as well. It's probably cheaper overall at the moment to import and sell or to buy part and assemble them here and sell
@@MASTER_GD220 But South Africa has a lot of money, it's just being mismanaged. But is it always going to be the case that we will never enrich our economy simply because the decision it does not make profit? is it the case that we will never risk money to build wealth in South Africa? we will always be importing products and exporting resources (other people will learn how to build it, we'll just use it, because it's cheaper)?
This is a very interesting question and researching it will upset you. There are agreements in place that will not allow that to happen. I'm obviously not explaining it properly nor do I think I'm qualified to but I've researched it and it was interesting.
@@simonboyane1140your politicians signed contracts with these Europian brands, so even if you design a car brand they wont even consider to produce it.

German car manufacturers are greedy as hell. VW will close 2 of its biggest plants because they are going down. BMW, Mercedes & Porsche will follow too.

My next car will be Chinese (Tank 300). After being price gouged for far too long by the Germans, I’m never going back to that particular hamster wheel.
Germany has been doing very well in the traditional engineering while China is doing very well in electronic tech engineering. The Germans are not good at software engineering and that explains why today even those top German car brands are relying on Chinese software engineers, not forgetting that today China has more engineers than the next nine in the top ten countries combined
@ @ yes but then what about the Haval H6 and the GWM P6? Both these cars are actually GWM Haval XX. The German economy is collapsing and so is its autoindustry. Nothing is working as it used to. The development cost of EVs is recouped through the sale of combustion engined cars. Chinese manufacturers need to make inroads into international markets through building better and cheaper cars.

I owned an Audi Q5 and A4 at one point… my latest is a Haval Jolion. I m no longer gonna buy these expensive brands which are even more expensive to maintain. The Chinese models these days are affordable, but dependable and the specs are top notch I m just skeptical on the issue of spares
lol why are people here complaining about us not manufacturing our own cars?! Are u going to buy them?. World is moving towards EV cars, China controls at least 70% of the battery market, has the best tech software companies, production capacity to be able to produce at a mass scale hence their cars are cheap. Not to mention the subsidies from the government. How do u expect SA cars to even compete in that environment. VW are closing factories left right and center in Germany, telsa’s market is being eaten up by BYD. What’s best right now is for us to get deals so they can open manufacturing plants here so we can benefit from skills transfer and job creation.
I was thinking of buying a new car, but I decided to rather keep my money. If I was to purchase a new car I would go immediately for a Chinese brand. I wouldn't consider other brands.

Personally, I believe completion is good. It opens up space for innovation and new ideas. The usual legacy brands have been too comfortable with giving our Market the bare minimum.
I believe brand loyalty is so absurd, besides being budget-friendly. Asian car makers are designing better cars
It's like someone going and buying a brand-new Renault Kwid. Like that car is a joke compared to what you can get on the second-hand market for that price and still be left with change
Highly comfortable 😮
Very informative content Zimasa - thank you!
Great content and insight 🙏🏽
Fantastic analysis and awareness
Just get a bike and ride, 😅😅😅😅
..
The Chinese vehicles offer luxury at affordable prices. Considering the economic climate we are dealing with, the more affordable option is attractive. Especially, when the Chinese-make vehicles also look good.
Thanks for sharing the insightful data
Big ups to you and the effort you put into these videos mate!
Legacy carmakers need to fix their pricing! R900k for an entry level 3 Series is criminal!
We changed from a Hyundai Elantra to a Haval Jolion in Feb this year.
Great video, please tone down the background music 🤦🏾
We should stop buying American and European cars it's time to tell them brics is the new boss 😅
Isn't it time we get them to open factories here because VW and Benz are losing and closing shop and therefore leading to job losses?
I was expecting to hear something about Jetour. Really good looking car, looks just like the Defender.
Love yr content of your podcast.
I like Chery brand wholeheartedly, I can't wait to get a job. But this Ramaphosa economy😭😭
Great video. I appreciate the effort you put into gathering all this information together so we can just digest it at the click of a button😅
I love your channel bro. Please keep going!
Makes sense with the Standard Bank financing. Their biggest shareholder is ICBC. So this benefits in more ways than 1.
I like what China is doing but they must also be careful. I feel like cars in SA are just super expensive. Imagine buying a car for R700 000 🤔 or R350 000. It's just ridiculous
Offcourse it's gonna be expensive it's a car not a toy
From Audi to GWM... very happy with the switch
Great video man.
Dankie Bhuti
Haven’t really warmed up to the Chinese brands yet, I find myself preferring Japanese and South Korean brands over Chinese car makers
Those Cherys are looking too good on the road.
If it wasn't for Muzi Sambo, I wouldn't have known much about Suzuki, they need to give him some credit 🤞🏽🔥
My biggest gripe with the Chinese cars is that very few of the better models offer a manual gearbox option. As somebody who absolutely hates automatics with every fibre of my being that's just not good enough! Bring us something that the driving enthusiast can get excited about and they will absolutely dominate the market.
The whole world is moving away from manual cars. The sooner you grasp that, the better.
Fewer and fewer people want manual cars. “dominate”, 😮No they won’t!
Man!
I feel you. You my kinda guy.
It's manual gear shifting or nothing!
Why can't we manufacture our own cars in this country, why are we always so excited to be given products while not understanding how to create them?
The German cars are overpriced
And dealerships are charging us twice as much as the price in Europe
The buzz word is affordability. Chinese cars offers standard luxury the Western car brands are already expensive and still you have to pay more if you want certain features!!
German car manufacturers are greedy as hell. VW will close 2 of its biggest plants because they are going down. BMW, Mercedes & Porsche will follow too.
Moved from BMW to HEV Tank last month, great value proposition, not as refined (motor) as german brands, but superior warranty and overrall value, obviously long term support is a risk with dealerships that carry the Chinese brands, time will tell
I needed to upgrade from my 2013 Ford Figo, and bought a second hand 2018 Subaru .amazing value
I am driving Haval GT. the closest car to it at Germany is the X1 which is over a Rm with you put the features that came standard with my GT
As a 50+ year old man, here’s my car ownership history: Opel Kadett Cub, VW Golf GTI (mk3), Opel Astra Euro 200iSE, VW Golf GTI (mk5), BMW 320d, Audi A3 Sportback 1.8T, Mazda 2, Mazda CX-5. My next car will be Chinese (Tank 300). After being price gouged for far too long by the Germans, I’m never going back to that particular hamster wheel.
Awesome list
The Standard Bank loans make sense. The Industrial Commercial Bank of China has a 20% stake in Standard Bank.
Yep. Makes a lot of sense
Germany has been doing very well in the traditional engineering while China is doing very well in electronic tech engineering. The Germans are not good at software engineering and that explains why today even those top German car brands are relying on Chinese software engineers, not forgetting that today China has more engineers than the next nine in the top ten countries combined
Haval is GWM (Great Wall Motors), one brand.
One company; two brans
@ @ yes but then what about the Haval H6 and the GWM P6? Both these cars are actually GWM Haval XX. It’s written even on the cars and the logos are confusing too, I think them themselves are also confused. The P6 has a Haval logo while the new Havals are written GWM on the back. Nevertheless, I brought it up because I thought the author of the video wasn’t aware of this, as he mentioned them separately numerous times, along side the Chery.
@@Philasande_Shange He mentions them as brands so it's okay. The sticking both brands on the same car varies by country. Now South Africa has become one of the countries where they do this. No clue what the reasoning is
@@Philasande_ShangeChinese suck when it comes to branding. One thing the west excels in.
my uncle owned a gwm for 11 years and said it was the best car he had
6:04 Not suprised that its Standard Bank. Industrial and Commercial Bank of China is their largest shareholder so they would want proiritise financing these cars and giving consumers the best deal compared to other banks
I'll buy a german car the day they give me an SUV for R6k a month like Haval.
Oksalayo TOYOTA a Japanese Brand will forever be the best Quality Vehicle Manufacture... Dispite all these hypes...
Oksalayo! 😂
Even people used to say that about Nokia and blackberry
oksalayo the Chinese brands are the best at an affordable price.
Toyota will rule 4 eva
@@comrade9374 The difference is that Toyata is not folding their hands unlike they are keeping up with the new technology, ulike your Nokia and blackberry
Ford Focus to Omoda, can do it again and again!
Other brands thought we were foolish enough to buy a car worth R300,000 for at least R900,000. Now, people are showing their disapproval.
Suzuki has upped it's game substantially with the new Swift and the Fronx. The new Swift is a brilliant small car.
Biggest problem is parts. And the tech is just to much. Cars must be simple. It will cost you when things go wrong. And the other problem, do we have technicians that will be able to fix that tech. Parts must be highly available or i won't buy a car
At this point SAns are thinking with their pockets, the economy has not grown since the Mbeki years,so inflation is eating into our buying power. Everything from fuel, electricity, food, school tuition has gone up except salaries. We are bound to cut costs 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Go electric, few parts and you will get way more mileage from your car
The German economy is collapsing and so is its autoindustry. Nothing is working as it used to. The development cost of EVs is recouped through the sale of combustion engined cars. Combined with high energy costs and high wages, Germany is leaving the group of highly industrialised nations. Their cars are build to break on purpose. Chinese manufacturers need to make inroads into international markets through building better and cheaper cars.
I was a die hard fan of German, ubtul it was time to buy one and lerned that I was paying for the engine, and I opted for a Japanese Kia, no regret.. 12 years down the line it still luxury.
I later upgraded to a chinese bakkie, man oo man the luxury is incomparable, beats a whole expensive names
I literally saw the BYD Dolphin at BYD dealership in Foreshore Cape Town
The chinese companies need to build assembly plants here in SA for jobs since we support their brands plus the germans might close their plants in the country if sales are poor
I owned an Audi Q5 and A4 at one point… my latest is a Haval Jolion.
I m no longer gonna buy these expensive brands which are even more expensive to maintain. The Chinese models these days are affordable, but dependable and the specs are top notch
I m just skeptical on the issue of spares
I moved from Volvo to Haval H6 3rd generation in July 2021. My next car next year will be the Tank 500 😊
And how do you buy the stock shares if your interested to invest??
Even VW is inflating its prices now yoh
lol why are people here complaining about us not manufacturing our own cars?!
R1 mil for a Hilux, R850k for a Golf GTI...AUJ! It's a bakkie and a golf. Vatsek.
I was thinking of buying a new car, but I decided to rather keep my money.
If I was to purchase a new car I would go immediately for a Chinese brand.
I wouldn't consider other brands.
Lol, I recently discovered that this is a very sensitive topic. 😅😂
It’s veeeeeery sensitive. People aren’t happy
@MrHowMuch 3:00 😂🙌
I thought maybe I'm seeing things 😂
I love my P-series bakkie
