Jeremy Clarkson said "most people in future will be driving Chinese cars" and it's happening faster than he predicted. They laughed at GWM but now they are in disbelief of how much progress it has made. Its good to see many well known brands owners trading in for GWM vehicles. It also hurts when some guys be spending 1million for a plastic interior compared to a R700k car with all bells and whistles.
I'm reminded of that episode every time I see a Haval for the 6th time in a day. A actual prediction from Clarkson that actually held up. Unlike the V12 statement lol
MPV is considered as a status symbol car in China. Rich people don't like to derive in flashy cars like Rolls Royce. Li One is a PHEV which is luxurious SUV which can do a little bit off road. He mixed Li One with Nio because it's Nio who does bettery swapping. Edit : Talking about higher labour cost, China is bigger than European continent and also has a population bigger than Europe and North America combined so there are plenty of areas where people aren't rich and willing to work long hours within China so most of Chinese manufacturing is getting shift to interior or central China where BYD is also making all their cars batteries and second is Vitenam and third is Mexico.
This man sounds like a Chinese Afrikaner, very interesting accent. I love all South African accents. I really hoped the Tank vehicles would be cheaper. Looks like a good a alternative to other similar priced 4x4's though.
@@CiroDeSiena although you are close to the Chinese visa centre in Cape Town you can now apply online for a business visa with speedy results. Set some time apart to see the city as well as there is a lot to see, do and lot to eat 🤤
I like this series alot, its given me alot of insight into the Chineese work ethic, why and how they change names(its alot better than what the usual suspects have done and I still call the P Series a Cannon because its a much better name)and the cars were missing out. That 9-6-9 work ethic and the morning meeting ethic are some of the reasons why they can push out more products in a short period of time(6 months for a change on a model versus a year or more for the usual suspects because of all the beurocracy and fiefdoms they have). Keep this series going!
I was a bit unsure about Chinese cars until I got into a GT6 and the GWM bakkie...considering the state of our economy, I'd opt for them any day of the week.
@@BubblesTheCat1hey buddy, I remember you, you still here bashing Chinese haha, well guess it's not without a reason. I had a brief engagement with you on the gwm p series 2-3 years back on this channel. I actually went and bought the p series 4x4 LT. It's going 3 years old but only 49k km now, so still new and low mileage, vehicle has been 100% solid so far, zero issues. Tech is miles ahead of my 2015 Amarok 132kw, however the Amarok still has superior ride Quality, the acceleration and power from Amarok is still miles ahead. But happy with the p series, keeping it until the P500 series comes out. Gwm Boksburg gave me 7 years unlimited km warranty.
Exceptionally informative and quite an eye opener! Amazing transition of the Chinese products. What's very impressive is the culture of discipline and productivity and the result it achieves. The SA workforce could take some inspiration from them. 996 and 007😮
Ciro please have an open day at your offices during the weekend, I don't get time off in the week so I can't come view it.. Would love to meet you and the team on a Saturday
Great series, keep it coming, especially cutting edge topics like the coverage on charging vs battery swapping. Interested to hear more on the topic of launch material and spec sheets (Ciro mentioned in a review this is not really available to SA) Heard that GWM uses Australia to test or identify SA market fit, is this true and why ? Do all chinese brands do this ?
Hi guys. The show should be called "Enter the Dragon", because of Bruce Lee but also because the Chinese automotive industry is entering markets at an astonishing rate. Plus, Dragons to Chinese people are a sign of strength.
Very good idea thanks Ciro lol, the cars are great value and look good with good warranties. However, what cocerns a lot of potential buyers are what happens after the warranty expires. Will they inspire confidence with the next buyer when the car is 5 years old with 150 000km on. And will parts be an issue, spoke to a panelbeater once, he reckons parts is a problem.
@Ciro, thank you once again for the informative sit down with Rob 🙌🏽. Apart from that, just wanted to say you’re very cool and amiable guy, I appreciate short walk-about at your nice offices this morning, offered me coffee and also for the great advice too. The studio set-up with the display cars 👌🏽. People are missing out here.
When more Chinese Hybrid electric vehicles on the South African market then the price will come down due to competition, yet again only Chinese OEMs can compete with each other on pricing
The P series, the Poer King Kong and P500 are different utes In South Africa we don't have the Poer King Kong but it's available in Kazakhstan Looks larger than the P series but smaller than the P500 Don't know if I'm making sense
Yes. I think they are different. The P500 is the gwm Shanhai cannon. I don't even know if the King Kong is for sale, I heard it's design for USA to compete against F150. Wish they bring to Mandela land
Thanks man, I try, but I think my English is as good as it would ever get now, I still have a bit of accent but people understand me, so it’s good enough for me😊
Great content guys, we love and appreciate your work. I think China had always had the capacity to make quality products but maybe for some profits reasons they opted for cheaper. Waiting for episode 3
What happens to the European and Chinese brands post 2030 when their populations go into free fall? Can they successfully export the manufacting to Africa?
Wow if Chinese motors are not specifically designed to stand test of times of South African roads, I then understand why are those cars look poorly designed for South African roads
Yeah China definitely has produced some shocking quality cars in the past, but I do think quality is improving on the newer cars and second hand value is holding better now
Ciro, you and Rob need to take a tour of China to actually show these things he is describing. THAT would be awesome to watch!
Honestly this is my dream and we are gonna work towards it!
Totally, I agree. I would even tag along just be an audience there as well 😉👍🏾

Buy a H6 Hybrid, the fuel savings will offset your installments
Our warm relationship with China necessitates doing business and bring these fine vehicles to SA.

I recommend your guys go to the Guangzhou Auto show 15-17 May. Can see current and future models all under one roof.

Amazing 2nd show
I enjoyed the episode i want more 🤩🤩
We will make more for sure Mr
If Li Xiang made fully electric cars, would they end up being bigger than BYD based on market share?
Not a chance, they don’t really make cheaper cars for the general public at the moment, so they don’t really move volume.
h5 will be great car for sa. For work, family……cant wait for gwm sa to it
And he said its a size of Cadillac Escalade
I'm so jealous but I want it bad 😕😔
And in China it only sells for 500k, I think in S.A it would go for 700k

Chinese cars are improving at an alarming rate and may overtake establish brands sooner that we think.
Don’t see how’s that alarming, I think improvements creates competition and benefits the end user which is the general public.

Very interesting series
So glad you think so
The is one Chinese car MPV i want and like is the Denza D9 that thing is beautiful. BYD must bring it to SA but the EV model
I just Googled it, looks good, very similar to Alphard/Lexus though
Agreed! The Denza is very comfy well spec’ed and beautiful

Can we expect lower prices on hybrid cars from China in the near future?
I think prices will be very competitive but inflation in SA is ruthless

Id simply call it, "Focus on China"
I would buy the LIXIANG ONE

What about hot hatches? Any Chinese hot hatches?
Very good idea for a future episode! But I think Zeekr makes a hot hatch. Google Kimi Raikonnen Zeekr
What happens to the European and Chinese brands post 2030 when their populations go into free fall? Can they successfully export the manufacting to Africa?
Population don’t have much to do with production, automotive production actually doesn’t need much manual labour.
@@Rob_Yao on the flip side with a population decline there is less consumers and therefore condition like what is starting to occur in Japan.
