This is something we rarely see: an anime channel talking about the World Masterpiece Theater series. Anne is the absolute masterpiece of Isao Takahata's career. His sensibility made this adaptation deeply touching, mainly because of the way it portrayed emotions and feelings. Nothing ever feels forced or natural. You can feel exactly what the characters feels because it's portrayed in such a realistic way. You feel empathy for these characters to the point that you don't see them as simple characters - they become people close to you, whom you care and share the same feelings of happiness, satisfaction, anxiety, sadness, despair, among many others. Empathy. That's what is so fulfilling about Anne and other WMT series, the empathy that dominates you.
Thanks a lot for this video, it really shows how meaningful this work can be for someone's life. I hope more people gets interested in this masterpiece. Do you plan on talking more about other WMT series?

You really nailed why I love this series so much. Reading the book series is both sweet and heartbreaking; time really speeds up as the story progresses, and there's this quote in the sixth novel which encapsulates what the the whole series is about: "Well, that was life. Gladness and pain... hope and fear... and change. Always change! You could not help it. You had to let go of the old and take the new to you heart, learn to love and let it go in turn"

Isao Takahata always gets such amazing background art, like in Princess Kaguya, Gauche or Marco. The lacks of BluRay releases really annoy me.

So I know it's been 7 years since you posted this, but I hope by some chance you'll see this comment.
Please watch Violet evergarden. The backgrounds (as well as literally everything else) are beyond incredible. There are so many animes now with really cool backgrounds and looks!! One that I can't seem to remember the name of at the moment, has different textures and styles for it's backgrounds. A la chowder the cartoon, in a way.

The reason the pacing is so good is because this is a very accurate adaptation of the book Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, which is itself one of the most brilliant pieces of literature I've ever read.

Personally, to say it again, I think your RUclips channel In the anime community deserves a greater deal of attention as you offer much more depth that most other larger animetubers out there. Your thoughts are always great to dig into and the atmosphere each video makes it feel all the more authentic and enticing to get into. I love these videos that think a bit more outside the box! Well done, and I would love another Anime Roulette soon ;) I also think you have a genuine and mature taste in anime 👌 cannot wait to see more!

you are definitely my favorite animetuber out of everyone. you are so knowledgeable and you discuss very deep and confounding elements in each show as if you were the director yourself. I appreciate your type of videos more than actual reviews, because I feel like the way you explain things in your videos encourages people more to watch it than someone saying "it's good." Keep up the great work, I'll be waiting!
P.S. I've watched every show that you have made a video about prior to discovering your channel, and I can contest how amazing each one is.

A show that does do a similar structure to Akaga no Anne would be Kemono no Souja Erin. From what seen so far it obvious that Erin is heavily inspire by World Masterpiece theater anime and it a hidden gem that come out in the wrong era. Out all o the World Masterpiece Theater anime I have watch I would have to say Akage no Anne because how well done it is and it what get me into WMT.

Pretty much all World Masterpiece Theater series are great, but Anne and Ie Naki Ko are something truly special. Great vid, yea you gotta respect the pacing in this show, I loved how they sped up the seasons later on it's really like reality since in the later years of my childhood it felt like time just went by faster (still does). Takahata really is a masterful director, if you haven't seen Cello Hiki no Gauche check it out

This Anime invokes a special kind of nostalgia in me, even if it hasn't been that long since I watched it. I used to be able to have lunch at home in high school for a while, and incidentally, Anne happened to be aired during that exact time and even though I wasn't into slice of life at all, I grew really fond of it and watched till the last possible minute before rushing back for afternoon lessons. Back then, I happened to be recovering from a few bad years in school at that exact time, so it was especially nice and calming to see Anne growing up and becoming happy as well. I used to be like her a lot as a kid, too.
Probably another favorite of mine once I get to rewatch it all over.
Great video. You really managed to be on point with how the pacing was used to enhance the nostalgia.

This series is tugging at my heart unexpectedly, and I've read all the Anne books, watched the Sullivan dramas, the netflix show, and even the ghastly Sullivan cartoon.
The first 15 episodes or so were so incremental that I got used to the pacing, and before I knew it, Anne was growing up, Marilla was growing old, and so was Matthew :((((
I already knew what was going to happen and when it did, i bawled

I think that Cross Game had perfect pacing, it really made me feel like I just lived through someones whole highschool life. It was strangly natural feeling to watch christmas episode three times in a 50 episodes long show every time looking back and thinking in terms of how much happened last year instead of last "number" of episode. So much well paste content made me feel like I was there whole year instead for just a few hours watching.

Your videos keep getting better and better! You have a strong and simple style. What you described in this video reminds me a bit of the manga Koe no Katachi. The mangaka took great care in designing backgrounds that return and reflect the changes in the characters. The biggest backdrop being the bridge where the MC would play in as a child, and where he returns later... If you've read the manga you should know what I'm referring to.

      @sarah1911_ 6 лет назад +3

Lea D No she’s wrong ! I watched the two seasons of Anne With An E and honestly it’s really beautiful! And I also watch the animated version and there’s a little bit similarities... But it’s not exactly the same... Anne With An E is more dark because we can see the Anne’s life when she was an orphan, how was people with her and all her bad memories, but it’s not horrifying don’t worry... we just see her mistreated or the girls from the orphanage who were really mean with our poor Anne. After that Anne is the same person, so talkative and she has a lot of imagination, and sure she does so much stupid things like to drink wine with Diana (I think we can see this scene in the animated version too). After that the relation between Anne and Gilbert is quite different, sure first of all she hates her because he named her “Carrots” and she was punished by Mr Phillips... But after, she starts to like him like a friend even they’re in competition at school... But it’s possible that they’ll become more than friends soon... So there’re not a lot of difference between the animated version and Anne With An E, Anne With An E is more dark perhaps and there’re new scenes in the Netflix’s show... And the relation between Anne and Gilbert is different ! Because in the animated version she stops talk him during a VERY LONG TIME.... So honestly, you have to watch Anne With An E ! ❤️

When I was little I was an Anne of Green Gables fanatic. I watched an animated tv series on Sundays, watched the live action mini series, and I got my mother to by me an entire set of the books.
I'd read Anne of Green Gables dozens of times and NOW YOURE TELLING ME THERE IS A FULL ANIME SERIES OUT THERE AND I DIDNT KNOW ABOUT IT!?!?!
Oh Bully! I need to get started!
