This series is the first cartoon series I ever watched in the early 80s when it was rebroadcast in Mexico when we lived there for 3 years. I would run home after school so I wouldn't miss any episodes. Everyone loved it and everyone watched it. Young and old. I loved the beauty of the visuals and the animation. Makes me wanna go visit that town hahaha! I cried, laughed and cried some more. So emotional at times that you forget you're watching an animated series. My mom watched it, I watched it and now the grandkids have watched the series. Dang... Such an emotional series.

Can confirm, Alps are great! Very cold, even in summer, especially if there's a giant mountain in front of the horizon, so it takes a couple of extra hours for the sun to peek, but still, the fresh air, the view and just the atmosphere in general makes it worth it.

I grew up watching Heidi. my grandma was a big fan of the show and she showed it to me when i was little, ever since then i’ve been emotionally attached to this series, now every time i see this beautiful series i feel the nostalgia of watching this series with her, this show had a big influence in my childhood, in example my grandma always tells me that when i was little i used to call her “abuelita dime tu” a reference to the show’s more popular song (in spanish and modified to be grandma instead of grandpa) because i loved it so much, also with the animation i think its amazing considering the age of it, also the music complimented the show very well

  • @alfredo2712
    @alfredo2712 3 года назад +12

The overview of HEIDI done here is excellent. My only issue is that the reviewer did so from a modern perspective, rather than the 1974 perspective. Those of us who watched it back then (literally, glued to the TV set daily), watched it with the outlook of what animation actually was in 1974, which was already ways ahead of what it had been just a few years before. Heidi marked a departure in Japanese anime style, and also set off the creation of Nippon Animation (although Heidi was created under the company Suiyo, which still functions for all Heidi licensing). Millions of us grew up with Heidi series books, comic books, record albums, bed sheets, towels, dolls, pencil cases, satchels...... Another issue was that of the music. I agree with the reviewer here that Watanabe was and still is the best version. That those in Europe who watched it with an altered soundtrack like that better is due to experiential views, and is only natural. However, as far as dramatic effect and depth, Watanabe's score is unmatched. Thankfully for us in Spanish speaking territories, the music was kept to the original. I have heard both and, while as a stand alone the EU soundtrack is not bad, I cannot stand watching Heidi with it.

  • @AlexanderOnFire

The tone of the anime is more light-hearted than the original. In the Series it is more about Heidi interacting with animals where as the original focuses on the hard life of Heidi (evil aunt, secretive grand dad, home sick because of frankfurt). Otherwise the story is almost identical.

@@korisnthere I would not call the original crueler, I love how much happyness and joy Heidi has in the Alps with her grandfather, there are more religious aspects in the novel, but there are less sad moments in Frankfurt.

    *SPOILER*
Just finished watching Heidi and while i really liked it for the most part, I couldn't help but think there was a couple plot threads that were never resolved which i found unsatisfying. Like, what happened to Aunt Dete? She kinda just disappeared after leaving Heidi at the sesemann house never to be seen again. And also Uncle Alm, we never got to learn his back story and why he was such a grumpy loner in the first place. it seems like he had a secretive past he was hiding which i thought would be resolved after him opening up to the town but it never happened. In general after Heidi returned the Alps it seems like all the focus went on to Clara with the main cast kinda being pushed into support characters roles. But other than that still an overall good experience and i found the animation held up very well especially for an anime made in the 70s. I think i might check out the book and see how it differs from the anime.

I found it really funny that I also just finished watching the show and I had the same "issues". Dete kind of just dissapeared, and we never got to know Grandfather's backstory, which is a shame, because he is really a great caracter, and knowing more about him and it's relationship with Heidi's father could have been very interesting.
My conclusion is pretty much the same. The show was still really good, and the OST is probably one of the best I've experienced.

It is one of the most traditional series for children to broadcast in Spain. It is one of the most well-known ones from Japan, along with Doraemon, and the proof is in it being continuously streamed for decades. I watched it with my aunt, and probably my niece will watch it too. The dubbing is also superb. Miss Rottenmeier is both scary and funny. And even louder than in Japanese, I remember a particular scene that you should see when she sees Heidi standing on a window and she shouts like she really is seeing a child about to fall off, from minute 12:39 GLH5lvfyXE0 xD Or this one for your enjoyment, minute 15:31 V93_Mvqxe3o
Heidi was voiced by a grown woman yet she sounds like a child. Plus the music is wonderful, I was lucky enough with the first versions of the broadcast to get all the Japanese songs, opening, ending and insert songs. Yuugata no Uta is so dreamy and beautiful. I just love it.

Yuru Camp backgrounds aren't "generic", they're just more "realistic" and common compared with the fabled alps.

I disagree. Looks like the same bland photoshop manipulation as most modern shows.
Edit: also, Yuru Camp very much embraces a fantastical, heightened, perception of nature and our relationship with it - it blows the characters away (and thus should blow us away too), which is why I gave the example of Heidi as a show that conveys that well through its visuals

      Of course you disagree.
I have to think that "wouldn't be adequate" to have a more liberal interpretation of the scenery. It's the real world, and a world that is close to the viewer (the japanese). The viewer can just go and see (the majority of the places were established camping sites), which makes me wonder if the viewer couldn't get disappointed if he went to the real places and see that it was nothing like the anime portrayed, you know what I mean?

I wouldn't say so, as nature in reality itself vs. a realistic depiction is a completely different experience, at least in my opinion. I value more highly depictions that try to convey the emotional experience of an object or idea rather than the literal one.

Since you enjoyed the soundtrack to Heidi, you should really listen to the amazing music Takeo Watanabe wrote for Candy Candy and Rémi sans famille/Nobody's boy.

The Story of Heidi actually is BASED on a GERMAN Children Story written by Hermman Adam Vom Kamp in 1830 and Heidi was written LATER in 1879 in just a few weeks. Germany has also Alps, but not only the locations are the same, but the words, even sentences are quite the same, the original tittle being, Adelaide, the girl from the Alps, then Adelaide being named as ADELHEID in the book itself. In German there’s more info, Wikipedia can’t not yet plainly state that Johanna Spyri actually STOLE the story of Heidi, in plain words PLAGIARISED vom ADELHEID, Heidi was not only “BASED” on Kamp’s work, but copied it in many aspects. Based and copied are totally different things. But, it has already revolt the media in 2010 when it was presented on the Swiss Tv program. So, I guess they don’t want to start a fight over a children’s story. There’s no need to fight, I think it’s easy, we all are to inform others that Hedi/ADELHEID story was actually written by German writer Adam vom Kamp and then 50 years later, copied/re-written in a few weeks and published by Swiss writer Johanna Spyri.

Oh, but I'd LOVE to! I just can't seem to find the 1974 anime series anywhere in English...I did enjoy its 2015 CG-remake a lot though. :)

Just saying, as someone who watched both, the 2015 CGI Version is absolutely horrible compared to the original.
It feels really soulless for some reason.

0:48 There's an english dub all all 52 episode but it's lost forever 😔 . I was fortunate enough to watch it at a kid.
Only 2 episodes were found 5 days ago (with lagging audio), remaining 50 is still lost sadly.
I refuse to rewatch the series until the english dub is found again.

A shame it never saw release in America, but we did get many versions of Heidi in tv shows and movies over the decades. Even a Disney version in the 90's.
