      Michael Garry for most other things, I'd still avoid it, a shallow keyboard with basically no key travel, no standard ports, and still no fucking touchscreen and middling performance, it is simply unacceptable in 2017, and will continue to be in 2018

    • @linkwaker10
      @linkwaker10 6 лет назад +11

      Dell 7500 series is what I got dude I highly suggest missing out on Lenovo stuff since I don't usually have many positives to say about their laptops (besides the yoga) but both of them can do the same work just as well as the other. I recently upgraded the TN panel and added a NVME m.2 PCIE SSD - it was all so easy to do. But hell if you can get the y720 for like $××× cheaper then even I would go for that. But keep in mind the parts in the Dell are really easy to replace.
      even though I have the one with the 1050 - the 1050TI and 1060 are huge upgrades in performance and much better with productivity (I use it for animation, drawing, and music - which btw the audio drivers are ), sure you may have to turn down some graphics settings but damn it's a laptop not a desktop :|
      Underrated to mention but it was so easy to clean the bloatware off of my dell compared to many people's Lenovo stuff I have cleaned over my tech repair years.

    +Dave Lee 1st time I'm this early to one of your videos, so before even watching the video I wanna seize the opportunity to say a few things:
    1st of all I really enjoy your style of reviews, honest, comprehensive, yet at the same never boring in any way, and I highly regard your opinion, which takes me to my next point..
    Aside from what this video is about, I really think you should take a second look at the new ZenBook Pro UX550, even for Gaming, people reported really satisfactory results after just some Undervolting and minor Tweaks, I tweeted you a picture with one of the comments and I hoped you would take it into consideration, I really feel you didn't give this device the chance it deserves...
    Last but not least, I'm still looking forward for your review of the 15 Inch Surface Book 2, and keep up the Great Work. :)

    I spilled a bottle of water into my Razer Blade Pro when it was a week old. When I finally accepted it wasn't going to just magically dry out and turn on, I sent it back to Razer. It returned 2 days later, completely repaired, looking brand new, for only 300 dollars. I don't know what you call good support, but I am still giddy about that.

    This video was very helpful. I just purchased my new computer today and can't wait for it to show up on my doorstep. I ultimately ended up opting for the top end Dell G5 15. It had everything I was looking for. The vents were at the back keeping the heat away from the hands. It is also relatively thick so it is very capable of cooling it GTX 1060 Max-Q graphic card and 8th gen Core i7 processor. It is also currently on sale on Dell's website so I picked it up for only $1100. I can't wait for it and will definitely leave a comment about how it performs for me once I give it a few weeks of testing. Thank you so much for the awesome video.

    Why would I care about how slim or light it is? It annoys me how advertisers will try to boast about how "Oh my god! it's SO light and portable!" Seriously, who gives a fuck? The fact that it's a laptop is portable enough for me. I care a lot more about it not over heating than getting a minor exercise with the laptop in my backpack. Are laptop gamers against any sort of strain with carrying something more than 10 pounds?

    I agree on most things, except for the 120hz dogma. Reasons being:
    1. When I use a laptop, it is still a mobile device, even if it just being moved from table to table, to watch a movie or do some stuff with other people. Therefore viewing angles and color stability are important. If you are sitting at your desktop PC, never moving, that is a different story, but using a laptop to also be mobile means the position of the laptop changes. In everyday life I much prefer viewing angle and readability over refresh.
    2. 120hz aka 5ms / 2ms respone, are only important for fast shooters. And even then, since only grey to grey is fast, you will notice blurryness as color changes won't happen that fast. I also doubt many pro gamers play on a laptop. Once the laptop gets older, you won't keep up the 120 fps anyway, but probably will play at 60 to 80.
    3. IF you want to have the super competitive shooter reaction times, you could still get a dedicated screen and plug it in externally. At least that's what I do. A good IPS screen for mobile use where head movement is not penalized, and a good fast response screen to plug in if you are going stationary "desktop hardcore gaming computing"

    Just a short note , if you planning to change the screen in laptop say goodbye to your gsync technology coz LCD and rest of the equipment is paired from FACTORY and if you change it there is no way to get back gsync on you new screen so i would think twice before pulling the trigger on that option.
    Only option is to choose the one you want upon ordering.

    just got an HP pavilion power laptop for 940 bucks, it can run any game with high-maximum graphics at 60+ FPS, has green backlit keyboard, 1080p display, 8 gb ram, 1 tb HD, core i5 7300HQ chip and nvidia gtx 1050 graphic card... was that a good purchase? i use it for school, work and gaming with no issues but the downside i see on the design is that the heat grill is at the top between the speaker and the screen (pointing towards the screen)... im afraid the heat can do something to the screen on long term usage

    • @raulgerardoc.1250
      @raulgerardoc.1250 6 лет назад

      Big Poppa Pump so far haven't had any issues on performance, it charges quick, the heat can be managed easily and gets cold quick. Connected to AC you get full performance. You just need to be careful with dust getting on the grill (only if you're in a dusty environment) I'd say it's a good option and it can be easily noticed as a standard laptop.

    Hi Dave, great overview! The point you raised regarding customer support is VERY important! I have had a few gaming laptops, including clevo, MSI, HP and yes HP has great customer support these days and easily accessible. I totally agree with the notion on smaller companies, from my experience, they either don't care or simply don't have the resources to provide effective customer support. I ran into issues with my MSI notebook and the customer support here in Australia I received was absolutely atrocious (and ended up being costly) and from this experience I will never buy another MSI product.
