      Maybe Dave should go to CES to get the facts straight because the specs he stated are wrong. The Asus weighs 980 grams (2.16 pounds), not 870 (1.92 pounds). Also, the laptop that he's holding in his hands costs $1,099, not $899. $899 version comes out later and will weigh 2.4 pounds.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 16 дней назад +28

      Apple does their research and probably came to the conclusion that weight isn't a major incentive to buy a laptop now. Bearing in mind LG Gram have been selling light laptops and not doing at all well, and that Apple's MacBook was a poor seller, tghey probably know more than random people on YT. " I think I feel that way because we've seen a ton of really low priced like sale devices over the holidays and because of like Black Friday and stuff that it's kind of skewed my perception of what laptops can be at this price point" - 4:09
    Amen. I just bought a Swift 14 with the 10 core snapdragon x plus and double the specs of this zenbook for $600.

    I wouldn't think that a touchscreen isn't a big issue for a typical business user, but a haptic touchpad is a must these days.

    Thank you @Dave2D for the vid. You and I must have gone to different schools, because it's only 28% lighter than it's big brother, the Zenbook S14 ... 35% is a bit of a stretch. Also, you keep saying a "device like this" ... if they added your touchscreen & the additional ports, it wouldn't be 870 grams any more, and your video would only be 3 minutes long =)

    These graphs are not perfectly proportional based on the data. Bar lengths do not accurately reflect the numerical scores, especially in the balance between single-core and multi-core performance.
    If someone were choosing hardware based on this chart alone, they might underestimate the Apple M3’s balanced performance or overestimate Qualcomm’s advantage due to the exaggerated multi-core difference.
    I never thought I’d see this on Dave2D’s channel, but it seems like this is a pretty common practice on tech channels to influence the audience’s decision-making.

    its a little bit nice that asus tought the power button should not put on the most top right corner to prevent accidentally power off, the same with new thinkpad move the fn button that should not on the most left bottom corner...

    I prefer that it's non touch, personally. Only improvement I can see would be adding a non reflective coating to the screen like on the MacBook Pro. I also didn't catch what the keyboard quality is like, what the key travel is, but I'll rewatch in case I missed it.

    Now I like the sound of that ceramic coating. Can they bond it to aluminium as well?
    Hopefully matte finish materials are a trend of the 2020s, I can deal with bare brushed aluminium as well though.

    The configuration looks promising. With that battery life and performance, working all day long without a plugged-in charger would be fantastic. I just wonder how the software is going to work, though. I still have doubts about Snapdragon laptops, as some software is not well-supported. Choosing between Windows software with x86 and ARM architecture options could also be challenging. Additionally, how easy is it to simply close and open the lid to resume work? Is it as snappy as a MacBook Air? I've tried some Snapdragon laptops, but the response time to resume the screen isn’t as quick as a MacBook. It’s not really long, but just not quick enough.

    This laptop is amazing! My two pet peeves were actually the lack of a 1440p display and 120hz. I actually liked the fact that it wasn't touchscreen. I've had them in the past but never liked it. Its always a gimmick and I don't really find any real functionality unless its a yogapad at something.

    I think touch screens are overrated on laptops because a lot of interface elements are finer/more granular on computers than tablets! The separation makes sense pragmatically; there’s no real good reason to include touching and smudging your glass on most laptops unnecessarily!

    Hey guys! Dave, I have a small question, 105g to be precise. We saw on Austin Evans that this model (same battery and specs) has 975g (1:13s). Why do you think there is a 105g difference between them?

  • @torpedospurs
    @torpedospurs 16 дней назад

    870g is with the 48Wh battery. Swap out for a 70Wh battery and weight goes up to 970g. $899 is the price for the base model that has a 1920x1200 IPS display, 16gb RAM, 70Wh, and an X CPU which is basically the X Plus without dual core boost. Upgrade to X plus or X Elite, OLED, 2880x1800, 32gb and it will probably cost close to the equivalent S14. For typical office work it is probably not worth upgrading.
