@@Thetechchap Putting a 60hz screen on a computer like this is crazy! Even though I like this laptop very much, I don't want to buy it because it doesn't have a screen refresh rate of 120hz or higher.

It's impressive how light it is. And battery life is on another level. Not bad, but in my opinion Windows does not allow its full potential to be exploited.
1080p makes it a no go instantly. It's not fine for dealing with text. For watching videos or playing games, sure. But not for text or any sort of productivity. Forget multitasking or having windows side by side. Everything will need to be bigger in order to be visible and it will always feel cramped. I love the look of this laptop though. Really nailed it. First. 2k is not what you think. It is 2048x1080. Second. Liquid retina is just a marketing name for LCD. If you feel that 1500 EUR is a steal for a 60Hz IPS panel in 2025...well, you should go back to the future.

The lighter model is China only and has a much lower battery capacity meaning the heavier version gets 50% more SOT. The LG Gram has existed for years at around this weight so this is more marketing than anything original--all these are sponsored overviews, basically ten minute ads. Take that into account and wait for unsponsored reviews if any come. These are to help creators kick start the year with some well-deserved income.
It's really something that I have been looking for in a laptop to carry around everywhere. Very decent performance, extremely light weight and Crazy good battery life, but thing to remember it's 60hz (that's a big downside for me). If they could have provided with a 120hz and a brighter screen, I would have loved to get one. Some small nitpicks for me, I think these thin and light laptops should have a sd card reader for quick memory expansion. And a fingerprint scanner would have been nice (maybe integrated with the power button). The future for ARM based windows laptop looks crazy good.
Agree that the ARM-based Win future looks bright. 60Hz is understandable on this class of machine, even though it's hard to go back from 120Hz once you've tried it
@Thetechchap I already have a gaming laptop Asus Tuf A15(which acts as both my work+leisure PC), paired with a MSI MAG251RX 240hz monitor. I was thinking to build a PC for my Gaming and for work I was thinking to get a thin&light laptop. 14" is the perfect size for me paired with light weight, hence was very excited for this. But, sadly the display would feel very laggy for me. All my devices are atleast 120hz.
It's that Win 11 models usually do better than MBA with 90/120Hz screens for similar money - so I've come to expect that as a benefit of Win 11 machines more generally (it's not to give a pass to the MBA at all)
this will be a very viable alternative to Thinkpad X1 Nano as the sub 1kg laptop, as that one costs a fortune and this one does not! the only downside is the 60hz screen and the snapdragon, which i dont mind as all i do is webrowsing / document / netflix, etc
I know there have to be some compromises for weight, cost and battery life but I'd love if it were higher resolution and refresh rate touchscreen. If only the S14 was this weight (and price 😂).
Looking at Asus, it's honestly quite remarkable what they're able to make and ship, it's their shady business practices that you ought to look out for.
The quoted SOT is only for video playback with volume off, low brightness, low-power mode, no other apps, and backlit keyboard off. Very unrealistic. I have tested all X Elite laptops and their battery runtimes are no where near true if you do more than simply watch videos. I would say about half for light tasks multitasking, and half again for medium to heavy loads. Tested against my MB Air 15 doing the same stuff, my Mac lasts 40% longer. This device is using an even weaker GPU, and that is why there are no benchmarks, and that will likely sip battery as it is weak--but it may struggle to run 4K video so be warned. Also, this is IPS, and 60hz which saves battery.,
I have no idea why anyone would buy this with the Zenbook S16 priced for less with AMD and better in every regard though a bit heavier. The S16 is currently £1499 with 3K OLED, 81 TOPS, 1TB/32GB, 6 speakers, AMD AI 9 HX, Radeon 890M, etc. If you are going for the higher spec version of the A14 get the S16 and thank me later, but if you want the cheapest model then look around as X Elite laptops are getting heavy discounts due to poor sales, and refurbs are cheaper still. For example I got an XPS 13, 32GB/1TB which is a premium model for £900 with three years warranty. Also, remember that there are still issues with lack of support for WOA machines and many people are returning them because of this. Also, the GPU on the A14 base model is weak so that may be a deal-breaker. And remember the quoted battery runtime are based on video playback on the cheapest /weakest model.
@@Thetechchap Yeah I have a hunch since it's lighter and is carrying less of its own weight , the flex should be less noticeable in real world. (Like the main use case where one notices flex is is when picking it up with one hand).
