James Hong is living, breathing Hollywood history. Dude's been in almost every other film classic of the past 50 years.
He looks wonderful for 93. His performance in Big Trouble in Little China was exceptional. He's never been bad or mediocre, but that role? Exceptional.

i first heard his voice in Mulan and Avatar the Last Airbender and Kung Fu Panda, and then i started to recognize him in his live action work. truly an icon and will always be one.

It's amazing that the affect of his voice is so distinctive, it is a Hollywood trope. And yet, despite being so iconic, most don't recognize his name. I hope this begins a process of recognizing his prolific accomishments in Hollywood film, television and beyond!

So funny. I was just thinking about him after watching a Bruce Lee movie. I thought that I saw him in Fist of Fury. I love him. He's hilarious in his comedy roles and very talented. He deserves all of the flowers.

Well deserved sir. You were an integral part of my childhood. My dad worked a couple blocks from Chinatown in SF in the '80s, and I remember in particular how big trouble in Little China ignited my imagination, imagining what might lurk below or around any corner.

As a fellow Chinese American, I admit hating many of Jame's roles. Hollywood's long history of racism stood in the way of opportunities for positive lead roles for someone like James. His endurance through it all deserves praise.

He was in an episode of 'The Drew Carey Show' where Drew was drugged and woke up in China without a pass port, money, or any idea how to get back to the U.S. James Hong played a government official who helped him return. When Drew asked how he could repay him James Hong said, "Oh don't worry about it. All you have to do is buy me one of those beaded seat covers that massage your back in your car."
To which Drew said, "Hey, if you get me back home I'll massage your back myself!"
James Hong paused, gave him a disgusted look and said, "Aaaaiya!!! Can't I go *one* day without getting hit on!!??"
Just huge admiration for his devotion to acting. To leave a safe career in civil engineering for the uncertainty of acting especially when he knew roles would be few and limited is stunning.
Not only did he play in so many movies, but he made great contribution to many of them! And his career span over extremely long time! It's really incredible!

I see James Hong in a Tv show or movie...and I'm ALL IN! So many roles and characters...but TWO that stand out to me is his role as the butler in "Chinatown" and the restaurateur setting people and taking reservations on a Seinfeld episode are tattooed on my soul.... "Cartwright....Party Of Four"! I have no doubt Mr. Hong is well respected by his Peers Big Time! Cheers From Ohio

I'm 76 & remember him in 1958-59, when he played Charlie Chan's son in the short lived
t.v. series of "Charlie Chan", with J. Carroll Naish as Chan! He was about 30, but still
looked like a teenager! Loved all his many great performances, through the decades!

Long overdue. Acting legend
He's had so many legendary roles. But one of my favorites is his voice role of Mr. Ping in Kung Fu Panda. When he tells Po the story of how he found him and adopted him, it gets me every time. There's so much love in his voice when he's remembering his early days caring for Baby Po.

This man is a legend and an icon. I've seen him in countless TV shows and movies I've watched. James Hong deserves this recognition and is a humble barrier-breaking man for Asian actors working today.
This man has done everything in acting I've been watching him all my life.
My favorite is Lo Pan in BTILC and I believe he played a character on The Big Valley, as far as I can remember.

At 93 he’s already lived a long, successful, and happy life. I bet he has no regrets if he passed away tomorrow, but he sure looks really healthy for 93. Hopefully we can get at least a few more years.
The craziest thing is most of us grew up with this icon of a man and didn't even know it till we got older. Not only is this man iconic in so many ways, he is literally such a big piece in cinema history. I Hope he gets another 70 years.
