This movie is superb! It's my #3 movie of 2021. The critics are wrong wrong wrong about it - they don't like it's politics and its critique of our insane out of control media culture. Just brilliant!
This movie isn't JUST about our existential climate crisis but also mercilessly skewers we humans' great capacity for hiding our heads in the sand and becoming the hapless victims of our own need to blissfully dwell in denial of ANYTHING really dire, rendering us powerless to head off or prevent our own destruction and demise.
LOL climate crisis?? More like a modern day version of Chicken Little - "the sky is falling! The sky is falling!" Can't count how many of these dire predictions over the years have turned out to be nothing but a steaming ♨️ pile of 🐃💩 Especially the people who are running around proclaiming it the loudest - Leonardo DiCaprio who flies in his gas guzzling jet to attend a ceremony where he's presented an award for being an ecology activist LMFAO Yet they get on their soapbox and lecture the little guy on how to live their lives. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are excellent actors and they did a fantastic job in this movie. My only issue is their salaries… 30 million and 25 million respectively. That’s freakin ridiculous. Maybe a couple of mil a piece, but these kinds of salaries are just obscene. All that said…excellent movie that everyone should see.
Just make sure you're not voting for anyone who sounds like Streep's character, regardless of what party they belong to. The sooner those people are out of office, the sooner we can get some real work done on the climate issue.

Streep said in an interview "Cate Blanchett omg" and this makes her a legend. Why? Because she knows that whomever is precious for her industry eventually is good for everybody in that industry. I agree with all your points but "It might be more clever and frustrating than the average viewer can take " I disagree with that. Most movies that talk about this stuff dress it up. The last thing which took it as seriously as this movie was the 90s Dinosaur ending. This movie is very on the nose and only uses one metaphor while otherwise being about our actual reality right down to social media and some of the stuff that happens near the end which a lesser movie would shy away from. I think because it is so real, people will actually understand it and love it or others who disagree with it will hate it. There won't be too many who don' t get it.

PLEASE Folks! That opening statement is misleading & should be deleted & a clarification posted! NASA did not launch the DART mission to "...push an asteroid traveling toward Earth off course..." The DART mission's purpose is simply to test the feasibility of altering the course of a potentially hazardous space object, sometime in the future, by crashing a probe into a relatively small object, Dimorphos, which is orbiting a larger object, Didymos, far out in the asteroid belt. Neither of these objects pose any threat whatsoever to Earth. It's only a feasibility experiment! This kind of misrepresentation by a major network is golden fodder for conspiracy theorists. Please clarify!

Thanks another for listing this as a comedy and the ending was not. As my daughter 32 yrs old and I finished the movie we were depressed and shocked. This movie should not be listed as a comedy. But should be listed as a comedy/ drama. We finished it at 11pm Pacific time thank goodness we were able to recover before the New Year. It did open up a dialog how we go out together if we had a choice. I would recommend this movie to be watched only half way thru, for comedy. We were both very sad finishing this movie. Until end we loved it and had many laughs, and then became sad as a dark curtain was pulled over us.

We are working at the wrong level. By trying to move the entire human race to do "something" makes no sense. Incentivizing local collective action. Prioritizing uniqueness and community is the key. Try a movie that promotes the idea of energy collectives in a rural town in America. Creating a self sustaining farm to table, energy producing, medical and other systems within a small space with a lesser reason to leave. Then make a movie to share how this system works. (Don't know any self sustaining communities? Try Bruderhoff, Rudolf Steiner, Amish, pot collectives in California, there are a thousand American examples. You have to look past their unmarketable spiritual beliefs and dodgy clothing and dental care to see the systems that work.
The climate crisis is of the utmost importance. Mind, at least in the US, the options are republicans who deny the problem and democrats who have mediocre plans. It's not something we can just fail at temporarily to "teach them a lesson." It is critical we keep electing democrats so that those mediocre plans become formidable over time.

The Big Short should be required watching in High School; it's a awesome movie about the truth of the collapse and is very scary.

My wife and I saw this film tonight!!!! Funny, poignant and reminds us how important human life is. It also shows how vapid & shallow our politics & media is these days. But yeah it’s important to laugh at this sideshow our planet is. Great job Adam McKay. Leo, Meryl, Jen, etc!!!!

We are working at the wrong level. By trying to move the entire human race to do "something" makes no sense. Incentivizing local collective action. Prioritizing uniqueness and community is the key. Try a movie that promotes the idea of energy collectives in a rural town in America. Creating a self sustaining farm to table, energy producing, medical and other systems within a small space with a lesser reason to leave. Then make a movie to share how this system works. (Don't know any self sustaining communities? Try Bruderhoff, Rudolf Steiner, Amish, pot collectives in California, there are a thousand American examples. You have to look past their unmarketable spiritual beliefs and dodgy clothing and dental care to see the systems that work.

COVID-19, anyone? We do not need to watch anything else
The climate crisis is of the utmost importance. Mind, at least in the US, the options are republicans who deny the problem and democrats who have mediocre plans. It's not something we can just fail at temporarily to "teach them a lesson." It is critical we keep electing democrats so that those mediocre plans become formidable over time.
