The interesting mechanics of IIIA soft armor is the way the layered panels distribute the kinetic energy, sorta akin to gambeson in a conventional sense. Instead of being a rigid steel and/or ceramic plate preventing penetration altogether, it absorbs the energy and dissipates it across the surface area & subsequent layers. Pistol caliber rounds are essentially designed to be big & slow (relatively), thus they cause damage mechanically by _"crushing"_ against the intended target. Hence? Bows can pierce IIIA with relative ease because the mechanics of an arrow is to concentrate its kinetic energy into a _"slicing"_ kind of manner, letting it go through the panels without too much difficulty, but probably not enough to cause major damage to vital organs. Whereas level IV plates, just like historical plate armor, is practically outright impervious to an a arrow no matter the draw weight. Suffice it to say? Conventional bullet resistant armor is literally just Gambeson -> Plate essentially. It's kinda ironic we've returned to the same basic design principles our ancestors realized with armor, but just made it lighter & easier to mass produce on an industrial level!
@@dashrendar5320 I'd definitely recommend sharpening the spear and giving the IIIA panel (perhaps a new one?) another go. We know that finer points & edges are exponentially beneficial for getting through gambeson, perhaps we'd see some similar results against the panel in a similar vein as well? Perhaps even the axe/sword can have a go at it with sharpened edges, seeing how effective the panel is against those sorts of nasty cuts. With the Level IV plate I think you'd have some effect with a mace & warhammer! Could be interesting especially since ceramic plates are designed to shatter, would be a neat contrast to how previous steel helms held up in comparison, or maybe the ceramic is simply too resistant for the kinetic energies your muscles can put out? Either way, looking forward to the next vids!

NIJ ratings also take that into account. In order for a plate to pass, it must stop the rated projectiles while having an acceptable level of backface deformation. Try a leaf shape arrow head made of Cromium-Cobalt-Molybdenum alloy. I have two, it is an extremely hard material, yet flexible enough to absorb heavy blows. And because it is so incredible hard, it can be sharpened much more than softer material like carbon steel or bronze. It's used in the dental area. Don't know the english term. Zahntechnik in german. These arrows were able to punch through my linothorax as if it was not there. I had bound it against a target, so there were 28 layers of glued linen. And it went through and into the target behind. Thank you most kindly
Try the armor with chain mill
Try a leaf shape arrow head made of Cromium-Cobalt-Molybdenum alloy. I have two, it is an extremely hard material, yet flexible enough to absorb heavy blows. And because it is so incredible hard, it can be sharpened much more than softer material like carbon steel or bronze. It's used in the dental area. Don't know the english term. Zahntechnik in german.
These arrows were able to punch through my linothorax as if it was not there. I had bound it against a target, so there were 28 layers of glued linen. And it went through and into the target behind. I used a 45lbs bow.
Good call, will try that
Excelentes videos hermano. Viva. el noble espíritu guerrero. Felicitaciones
Thank you so much my friend! So glad you enjoyed it
At what range is the War bow very lethal say if real situations going to occur? I’m loving this research 🤘
Mine can shoot a max distance of a bit over 200 meters but I can only “group” them at that distance. No pinpoint accuracy for sure
Came out of felial piety to Admin. Will sub.
Haha awesome
Thought:
Turn the axe blade side up, should in my mind give a better chance of hitting point first, unless it turns around after being thrown.
Yes, no?
I don’t know I’ve never tried throwing it that way, but I don’t think I would’ve got a better throw than I did
Would be great to see what the warbow does against modern helmet
That’s high up on the next video scale 😁
Pretty cool demonstration. You remind me of young Lorenzo Lamas in Renegade
Hey thank you so much! Super glad you enjoyed it
Valuable information.
Dude you and that bow of yours amaze me
Hey thanks so much for that my dude, truly appreciate it
@@dashrendar5320the fact that you take the time to talk to everyone shows a lot. And I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we appreciate you 😃 I had kinda lost any drive to do anything I used to like doing until I started watching your stuff and now I'm getting the gusto back and starting up doing the things I used to enjoy doing again. I have been in law enforcement (corrections) for 3 years now and it kinda drains your mind and especially your spirit with some of the stuff you see and watching your videos about your progress and seeing your determination to hone your skills kinda made me remember who I was before the job and made me realize I don't have to be just 1 I can be both and have that outlet to destress and I really do thank you from the bottom of my heart man.
Thanks so much man, life can be brutal and just suck the joy out but finding that passion in other areas can help keep you not only sane but just full of more life! Keep at it my friend 💪🏹
For the algorithm, science can be fun.
Indeed it can be 😁
Informative thank you for sharing
Try single bevel broad heads. You'll be amazed
Yeah I gotta mix it up a bit
Definitely wouldn’t consider a shot from a war bow to be “most stabs and slashes.” Those things are crazy. People way underestimate both medieval weapons and modern armor.
Hahaha I would agree on both counts
Love the content man!
Great video. I really enjoyed it.
Thank so much, glad you did
Idk if you do this type of content but there’s a book series called rangers apprentice it’s a little young but it has a lot of archery in it and would love for someone like you to review it
I actually did a few videos about that early on, they were just shorts, but it’s my favorite archer series. Halt is my all-time favorite!
I will have to find those I love your content keep it up
You are amazing bro you look like a gladiator, but I want to know where you buy this sword and arrows from
Arrows I make myself. Sword was from Cold steel my friend
What we need is a 3A ballstic gambeson
Ha that would be legit!
How long does it take to make each arrow?
They can take about an hour I would say per one
Glorious good sir
Thank you kindly
Relax, it's not a spall-guard failure, if the vest had been on, it would've caught that bit of shrapnel.
That ...was...intense. Loved every second. Couldn't take my eyes off your abs. And man, when you let your hair go! ... I lose control.
I also love how clean and sophisticated you keep your language.
This is how I feel 👉🏻 ❤
You literally can't stop yourself from making creepy ass comments on this mans video can you? lmao.
Thank you kindly as always my friend
Yeah. He's wicked hot..but he's too calmly talking about head shots. 😆
Which is HILARIOUS
@dashrendar5320 there are still guys in the no questions community who have taken bows into combat to this day. Its a useful tool for anyone.
Keep the videos up, also try some witcher themed stuff
That would be fun to do for sure
Great video! can you make one for a medival mace?
I am getting a mace for Christmas from my wife 😂 so soon
It’s glorious!
