This is a complex shape to fill. It's not as easy as leveling out a dent. I picked this fender to show how forgiving filler can be.
Make sure to check out how buttery smooth this came out after I laid down some primer and paint.

I was taught epoxy first on metal then filler.
Ok what field of work is he actually in. My high school body shop teacher would jump in on him doing this and hand him a book on wielding.

Lead filling much easier.
Never start with body filler over metal, ALWAYS epoxy prime first. Epoxy primer gives needed corrosion protection, as where filler is a moisture trap. This fictional fender should be mounted on whatever it’s going on first, test fit. Demonstrate mixing ratio with a scale, they are easily accessible. A scale will give you more precise measurements and help you learn how much is usually needed based on the amount of filler made. Last, that fender was slopped with plastic and yet in the end it was almost all sanded off, 1 coat of epoxy then 3 coats of sanding primer. Aerosols can work but I would recommend other products. 2 cents
