Which is your fav scale / color?
Blues scale!!!!
The colour scale, cause you can use whatever notes you want😎 (I think👀)
Blues, diminished, altered scale
Altered
I like them all.
I feel how good you get at using them all and being able to phrase with them, that makes all the difference.
🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾 Had a blast! Thanks for having me!
You did a good job! You guys seemed to have fun.
Like how you included Gabrii! I always loved the equality in jazz bands (even the bass & drummer gets to solo!). You brought a similar approach to this lesson.
Lydian #4 is just lydian! The scale you’re playing is commonly referred to as lydian dominant (4th mode of melodic minor). Also what you call the augmented scale is actually the whole tone scale. Sorry to be a jazz nerd, just trying to help
was about to say the same, though i haven't got to the second mistake yet, i am sure the guy took your comment the right way, you didn't sound rude.
There's more than one word for a lot of these. Though lydian #4 does sound redundant
@Ayustria Salma mixolydian#4, lydian b7, D melodic minor, C# super locrian, etc, but lydian #4 is uninformative name for that scale.
Thank you for beeing a jazz nerd, I was wondering what "Lydian #4" scale is he talking about and then came "augmented scale" that I knew as Whole-tone scale. Anyway great video!
These videos are so insanely great on getting better in jazz vocabulary and finding new ideas to play over stuff.
I always jam along to these videos.
The "Lydian #4" is actually "Mixolydian #4" or "Lydian b7". 4th mode of Melodic Minor...
I think it is
Yesss! Sorry
@@RotemSivanGuitar no worries, it's a minor thing in so much good information. Thanks for the valuable lesson.
alas that’s not the augmented scale either ... it’s the whole tone
@@electorize Minor? Is there a pun somewhere?
Your videos have been a revelation for me! So much goodness! So inspiring!
Useful note regarding the Lydian Dominant (so sharp4 and flat7) everyone has mentioned. Play the same scale a tritone away. Congrats, you now are in the altered scale.
Thanks Rotem, really nice and interesting. But what really inspires me is your focus on deeply listening. It's changing my way of playing.
Lovely playing, great sound btw.
Thanks so much for the lessons!
Just subscribed.
I love this channel! Thank you!
This is a true nice & playful guitar lesson right here! SO beautiful. Thank you
Amazing as always
Solid video- lots to think about as usual!!
just discovered this channel yesterday .... great !!!
Excellent lesson!! Thanks guys! 👍👍
Very helpful, thank you. I was thinking "More practice, less playing" for the first half of your video and then later "pick something and have fun with it".
Your examples are just awesome this helps me a lot to understand how music works.
Thank you, Rotem!
❤️
Man, this is all so over my head, but I absolutely love it! Love how you play. Very knowledgeable. Thank you.💗🎶🎼
🙏🙏❤️
Excellent lesson.
Awesome! Greatest lesson ever!
This is fantastic!
Great stuff guys!
Bmin7b5 and Fmaj7 arpeggios are also great over G7
Also C melodic minor (aka B Altered scale, G mixolydian b6)
This is probably one of the best lessons ever; I've learned so much about what I already know
Great lesson!
Thanks Rotem, great summary & there is a huge universe to explore
Select one, work on it for 1 week, 1 month or 8 years :)
This is awesome!
Awesome video! thank you!
Beautiful job .. thankyou..
Good stuff, right here!
This lesson is 💰. one of the Best i have seen.
Lots of practice and improvising ideas! Thanks!
❤️🙏
I'm your new fans from Thailand. I've many of knowledge from you. Thank you so much.
I love your lessons you play amazing !
🙏🙏🙏
great video !!!!!!
"Play around this neck of the woods." Great play on words/
Que dominio del mástil ! Muy instructivo el Jam...
pure gold cldve done with many yrs ago --- thx!!
❤️🙏🙏
💥💪Badass Topic & Awesome Tips!!! 🙏💥
Rotem! Love your channel and your playing! Huge inspiration!
Would be really helpful if you could play more slowly at least once for explaining a certain phrase/scale/melody - its very hard to catch up even when turned down the speed of the video on youtube (beside the horrible artefacts)
Also it would be amazingly helpful to see your fretboard from 90 degree angle in front so we can see were your fingers are.
I believe many people like me haven’t worked fully thru theory yet to work it all together - so that would be a really easy and very HELPFUL way to teach us. You’re amazing, you know that and so much appreciation for putting all the work in for the sake and love for music. Thank you for sharing! 🙏
This is goOoOld
Love it! Have you done a lesson on secondary dominants/back door dominants etc and their chord/scale relationships? Thx
I did a while ago
Absolutely love it....
❤️
Genial experience👍
Awesome....
The sound of the augmented scale is beyond words. Awesome. I loved that scale.
Awesome video my friend ! Big Like!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💯
Thankssss
Yes thanks . He was saying Lydian #4 , which is Lydian . But regular Lydian has a Major 7 , instead of a flat 7 (like a G7 chord). So he called it the wrong name. He needs to get that straight if he is TEACHING others on a public forum . It's good to show several ways to play over that G7 though , of course.
Wow cool video !!! 👏🏻👏🏻🤙🏻 I like altered scale 🙌🏻
I practice the harmonic and minor pentatonic scale mixed hahaha🤦🏻♂️
Tengo que ser más eficiente a la hora de practicar 🤷🏻♂️
Abrazos
With that much reverb i would just go for the 12 tone scale .... everything flows together
i love you!!
Love ja back Jerry!
It’s not what you play but HOW you play it , I guess 😉!! Thx a bunch, you guys are PLAYAS (ALL CAPS) 💥🔥💥🎸
❤️❤️❤️
Amazing video, as usual ;)
I was wondering how to play those drone sounds? They are super useful to hear notes colours 🎶🎨
It's a looper pedal, like Boss RC-1 Loop Station Looper Pedal (not sure which Rotem uses).
You play a chord, hit the button and it drones on until you hit the button again to stop it. Rick Beato does same thing in some his lessons.
@@123jkjk123 Thanks brother!
It might be something like the EHX Freeze.
Awesome! Which kind of pick do you use? Dunlop? pink?
Since following Rotem my playing has come on loads.
Can we apply the same idea to think of ii-v in a complete minor perspective and apply all the minor modes of major scale and melodic minor scales?
YEs; Lydian mode IS #4?! What you meant was Lydian Dominant scale (#4 & b7); but excellent playing as always!
thanks!
I not smart enough for this but I dig the playing and maybe I will get something via osmosis!!! Best Wishes/Regards!
Rewind rewind rewind rewind
I think I’ve got this
Rewind rewind rewind
Do I?
Nice lesson!
muy bueno che¡¡¡¡
Trying the Lydian b7 over de V7 of autumn leaves. When you play it it always sounds good. When I play it it often does not. Maybe show some examples when it does not sound good so we can see the difference.
great video, i found your channel from paul davids video and subbed. a bit advanced for me but a great inspiration, youre a very knowledgable and skillful player. what pedal do you use to drone the note? im going to look if you have any less complex lessons.. cheers!
🙏 it's the freeze pedal
@@RotemSivanGuitar appreciate the reply, cheers mate! loving your channel already!
HEY MAN, I LIKE YOUR GARDEN...... WHAT IS YOUR LESSON? HARVESTING NOTES?
It’s not Lydian #4, it’s mixolydian #4.
Or Lydian dominant.
( just think that you didn’t realise, I am sure you know though:)) )
Yep.. ma bad!
Thanks
what is your guitar's name Rotem?
So this is basically what jazz is: "play weird scale over dominant chords and hope it resolves".
What do you use to get your “drone” sound when you hold notes? Is it a pedal?
Freeze pedal
... feel that pain ...!!!! Gracious! Ha ha ha! ;)
The 2nd option sound like Kelpy G on Spongebob series.. it is relaxing..
Lydian sharp 4? Already has that note in this mode
isn't G7 mixolydian the same notes as c ionian?
Basically you can play anything that create tension over dominant function chrod.
9:29
Don't get lydian #4. Lydian is a #4 scale - am I wrong? What you articulate, I would describe as Lydian b7.
Curious about that sustain pedal. What is it?
Freeze!
@@RotemSivanGuitar thank you
That lydian #4 should be named lydian b7, or mixolydian #4.. because lydian already have #4, what's the point to name it lydian #4?
Number 3 it’s more like mixo #4 nah?
Yesssss ❤️❤️
What I don't understand in this vid is: Why do you call the lydian scale addingly "sharp 4"? Doesn't the lydian scale have a sharp 4 anyway? I always thought this scale is called "lydian dominant" or "MIXO- lydian sharp 4 (or even sharp 11)". Am I wrong?
Ya. Ma bad
@@RotemSivanGuitar, no - everything's just fine, you're not bad! The opposite is the case. I really like the way of dealing with and talking about the matter of the tension and release of certain intervals. It's just normally that way that I think I'm wrong. I'm happy I am not. Thanx for being honest.
I think we'll meet more often on the comment section of your vids - I teach myself and I'm looking forward, to get some nice inspiration. Thanx, mate! ;)
Yours, the silverfox, David from Germany
I see you reply to many comments. Firstly, really nice lesson. Will be very helpful. The 'colour scale' you talk about is cool. Always reminds me of this lute piece:
ruclips.net/video/Z5qb1rM8y6M/видео.html
The 'drone' notes are roots and fifths, no third, which leaves it wide open.
That would be Lydian Dominant aka Myxolydian #4 instead of Lydian #4.
Yessss🙏
Ya think I'm gonna take advice from a guy who leaves his strings sticking out like workplace accidents waiting to happen? Be like getting driving advice from a guy with brake lines hanging off his car haha....
So him cutting his string ends off is gonna make him a better guitarist or what?
@@dragendelao It's called playful humour. You should try it.
Lol - it is a hazard but so am I
@@RotemSivanGuitar just spent the last two days exploring the whole tone-half tone scale, especially that lovely one of yours that starts G-F-Ab-G-E-D-F-E etcetera... lovely cascade down the neck, and like all diminished scales usable every 3 frets haha!! I’m a rock player, and I’ve always felt sad that I don’t get the opportunity to use diminished much... but there’s lots of dominant 7s out there!
When you played the blues scale you went Into the Major On a lick. That's not In the blues scale.
What's one B natural btw friends?
You meant lidian flat 7
I sure did 🙏
I like this playing but get lost when they go from playing simple G7 to jumping around the chords with no explanation.
Has anyone seen eric crapton around here?
thnx
very cool
kinda wish u guys would dry off your tone a bit
so much verb and delay it all washes together
just sayin
Lydian #4? That's all Lydians. You mean Lydian b7/Mixolydian #4 for a dominant 7.
This would be a whole lot clearer and easier to hear if you dialed down the reverb a bit....just a suggestion from a player and teacher of 50 years! Too much effect makes the notes harder to hear!
Lydian mode has always 4#, you mean Lydian b7, anyway it's doesn't work on functional dominant chords.
Sorry yea b7
It sounds good to me.....
@@RotemSivanGuitar Try on Db7 (tritone substitution of G7), it sounds better. Anyway great job!
Not enough reverb bro
Broooooooooo
/ yep.
Мало скотча и резины на гитару намотал! Скилла не будет!
Throw away the blues scale lol the blues ain’t a scale it’s a feeling & attitude!
boomer
@@141JohnPrice oooooh good one
it is better to show the tab to make it easier to know than to say too many words without profit while the tab you are selling stop showing your videos
Too long, too much blah blah, and too much showing off.
Sorry you feel that way. But thanks for checking it out
