I had a ms 250 with a 16 and having a log burner used to get the branches off the wind blown trees in the woods .but when I used to go back most of the tree had gone .so I went and got a ms 660 with a 30 on it that was heavy but I never went short of wood through the winters
Is that the Stihl ms462c-m? I have one of those. And I have the face mask, too. And I have the same habit of starting a cut before I lower the visor. I had to give a chuckle there.
Yes! I would argue the 462 is the best overall firewood saw. I will tell you it will tire you out after 3 tanks. It will constantly pull you into the wood. Running the 462 and then going to the 362 would be a great combo. I’m actually looking into the ms400 to alternate with my 462.
Stihl went back to the carb adjusted model. I think they were having issue with the c-m models. I have a buddy who has a 661c-m and he said he’s having problems with it. He doesn’t even use it anymore.
Hey Matt, nice saw set up ! Keep both hands on that baby…..kickback can come out of anywhere and happen so fast. Take it from an old guy 👍 safe cutting 🪵⛓🪚🔥👍👏
@@FirewoodontheHill it makes everything easier on the back. I have the long Fiskars and the long Ochsenkopf and they're both great. Very useful for two people lifting a log onto a splitter or just moving bucks here and there!
You be careful with them longer bar , kickback come fast in small timber . Buy a 36 “ put its on a 100 cc plus . Be thinking SAFETY around chainsaw . There don’t cut , there tear skin pretty easy.
Just found your channel bud and like it… I run 32” bars on all my saws and do firewood videos as well if you would like to check it out… I ran both full skip and full comp and the full comp I never go over .025 on the rakers… have done firewood my whole life and production felling for awhile… anyway you got a new sub keep up the good work
Hello, but if it works, the 462 is not suitable for a 32 bar. Why do you always have to put such a big bar. Buy bigger chainsaws. You don't realize how the machine is suffering. It's a 462c,??? Don't understand why there are holes on the top cover, thanks.
I’ve run the 462 way harder with my 25 inch chain than with that 32 inch chain. I only use the 32 inch bar maybe 2-3 times a year. 2-3 times a year doesn’t justify buying a bigger saw. I have the 462 carb version not the 462c. When I was first looking for saws I had a couple people tell me to stay away from the c stuff. I now have a 400c and love it. We will see which saw has issues if either do.
It will get the job done but is almost to much for this saw IMO. Pick up a skip tooth chain for it sometime. It won't work the saw quite as hard and you won't have so many teeth to sharpen either! 👍 Thanks for the videos...
The stihl website says you can run bars 16" to 36", and I know a good amount of production fallers that run a 32" and 36" bar on their 462s and 500is nonstop. His saw will be fine with regular maintenance
Love my 462 and 500i. 32 inch bar hangs on the wall for special occasions though. 462 with a 20" is an absolute weapon. Stay safe out there.
Yea I keep mine on the shelf for special occasions. I haven’t put a 20 inch bar on my 462 because I have one on my 400cc. I’ve heard it rips though.
Enjoyed the Video. I have a 462,and wanted a 32 inch for it as well. Thank you for the demonstration.
Thanks for watching!
Great set up with the 462. Less stress on your back with the longer bar. Well done, sir!
Yes I love the longer bar because I feel like I’m bending over less. Also I feel like it gives me a better angle to cut.
A lot more stress on the saw though.

Yeah big saws have their place!
I’m diggin’ that 32” bar on big stuff. Makes it so much more enjoyable when you have the right tools for the job! Keep it up Matt!
Yes having the right tools for the job is the key to doing anything well!
The 462 is fantastic. I run a 36" bar just fine on it.
Nice! The extra length is nice on big logs!
Yeah it's great. I use it for milling logs. 36" is too long for most use because it's just too cumbersome but the saw has plenty of power to run it!
Today I traded in my ms 362 for a ms 462 c-m and I enjoy it already . She’s running a 28” inch bar right now . Someday get a 32” inch bar for her .
Very nice! If you do get a 32 inch bar I would suggest a skip tooth chain
Does the oiler works well on a 28 inch bar ? Thinking of getting the 462 !
Nice job nice saw nice bar...
Glad your enjoying it...
I'm getting a 32 for my 500i
Thank you. You will love it if you got big logs to go through.
I would put a 36" bar on a 500i personally. It will handle it fine.
How does the oiler perform on that 32 inch bar , does it get enough oil on to the chain ??? Thinking of getting the 462 ! Please advise Gunter
Great, you can actually turn the oiler further than the stock position and it does great.
I hope you thought about pushing the pin for maximum flow from the chain oil pump.
Yes I did. Did it as soon as I got the saw. Better to be over oiled than under oiled.
nice new saw bar
That saw handled the long bar very well!👍👍
Yes it did!
I am thing get 32 bar on Ms 462 in future i only 28 inch bar for now
If you are cutting 30 inch or more it’s good to have if not 28 inch will do you just fine!
Is that the Stihl ms462c-m? I have one of those. And I have the face mask, too. And I have the same habit of starting a cut before I lower the visor. I had to give a chuckle there.
Yes it is. Yep you gotta get some sawdust in your eyes before you lower it down. Haha
I just bought a MS462 and I want to put a 32” bar on it. Did you need to buy a bigger sprocket or anything special besides a bar and matching chain?
No, just bar and chain. I would recommend a skip tooth chain. In the video I have a full comp but skip tooth runs better.
I have a ms 462 with a 25in bar, what's the biggest bar that you could put on it?
I have a 32 inch bar that it pulls fine. I would recommend skip tooth chain for big bars
You might try flipping the length guide to the other side of the bar. Hold the white tip over the end of the log.
Yeah I’ll try that or maybe put one on both sides.
Nice clean cut with that 32", What camera do you use for recording? Videos are very clear.
We use iPhones the iPhone 10 for this video on 60 fps.
I like that bar , saw was eating !!
Yessir, I like it a lot.
Good review. I caught a lot of hate for running a 28 inch bar and on a 362 even though it handles it fine. It the 462 worth the upgrade?

Hello from Ukraine.
I planed to bought this chainsaw MS 462. But think to take model 462 c-m.
Why you buy version ms 462?
Stihl went back to the carb adjusted model. I think they were having issue with the c-m models. I have a buddy who has a 661c-m and he said he’s having problems with it. He doesn’t even use it anymore.
Hey Matt, nice saw set up ! Keep both hands on that baby…..kickback can come out of anywhere and happen so fast. Take it from an old guy 👍 safe cutting 🪵⛓🪚🔥👍👏
Yes you’re right!
@@FirewoodontheHill sorry, I hate to sound like a safety Sally ……I just know how easily they can bite you. Great saw you have there ⛓🪚👍
In a stack like this the tip has even better odds of hitting another log and kicking back also. Firm believer in 2 hands at all times as well!👍
Yep especially in that pile
I uses my ms 661 with a 32” and ms 462/w 25” bar
I think those are the right sizes for those saws 👍🏻
If i was gonna get a saw, id go for the MS462 over the 500i. As i know the Ms462 will last least 20 years unlike the 500i.
I couldn’t agree more. I love my 462c
Would a 500i pull that bar well?
Yes it would and probably a little better than the 462 did.
@@FirewoodontheHill that 462 is a beauty..
@@6900pilot yeah I love it. I have buddy who actually likes his 462 better than the 500i.
Nice.
Do you have a hookaroon/pickaroon/hand sapie? If not, i highly recommend you get one. or two.
No I don’t, but I should get one though.
@@FirewoodontheHill it makes everything easier on the back. I have the long Fiskars and the long Ochsenkopf and they're both great. Very useful for two people lifting a log onto a splitter or just moving bucks here and there!
Too much bar and chain for that saw. MS661 is the saw for that bar and chain.
Agree 💯
I wouldn’t use that bar & chain everyday by any means but to buck up a few big logs I get in from the tree service it’s perfect.
@@FirewoodontheHill I have run the same saw for the past 2 years. It pulls a 20 inch bar and a 25 inch light bar really well.
You be careful with them longer bar , kickback come fast in small timber . Buy a 36 “ put its on a 100 cc plus . Be thinking SAFETY around chainsaw . There don’t cut , there tear skin pretty easy.
Yeah it can happen in a blink of an eye. I’ll make sure to be more careful.

I agree skip tooth would be better for the saw. I like the idea of less teeth to sharpen too.
Stihl only recommend a max of 22” bar on the 462. Hope you don’t kill your saw.
The manual recommended a 25” bar. I use the 32” on occasions.

I run 32” on 70cc and up you can run a 36” on that saw and it will be fine as long as it’s skiptooth and rakers no more than .025
@@mountainlifewithdavidkelsie yes skip tooth is definitely a must with long bars.
Stihl say 36” max
