This channel is about our adventure of starting a firewood business in NC. All of the wood we acquire is 100% free to us from tree services or other locals who have downed trees needing cleaned up.
We will go over the wins and losses of our adventure and document everything. We hope to bring you knowledge, encouragement, and entertainment with this channel. This journey started January 2022!

Hi Matt can you share that deal on the bags???
I will in my next video!
Fill those back tires with beet juice if you haven't already , will help with ballast considerably.
Yes they are filled up as well.
Lee Daniel Walker Jeffrey Young Donna
Approximately 46 lbs of water.
Thanks!
Gotta shove some PVC in the ballast box first to be able to hold tools like shovels and axes or what nots.
Yeah I don’t need room for tools like that. I’m taking about for wrenches, chains, pins, etccc. Small stuff that I want easily accessible.
Good stuff Matt! I don’t know much about ballast boxes but I have learned about selling wood😂 All my advertising is done by word of mouth. I did do ads on marketplace last fall in what I thought was already a saturated market. I was wrong. I got overwhelmed by calls😂 Too many people out there have done people wrong!! Take care👊🏻
That’s right. It’s amazing that just a 1 fb ad can sell all your wood for you! Just a few small marketing ads can change it all.
Should be good now on weight.
I think so!
I have the same tractor 4010 same problem with the pins wear out .
It’s good to know I’m not the only one. What did you end up replacing them with?
When looking for weight if at all possible straight water was a winner always as it can be regulated in that case there plastic food grade drum and where's the garden hose
Yeah water wasn’t enough weight alone. Plus it will sway too much. The drum are good on flat land but not hills. You need a lot pre clearance on hills
I've yet to have a complaint on my firewood. Give them what they are looking for and a little extra.
That’s just how easy it is!
Should be enough weight!! You may need to look at a skid steer or mini excavator! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Yeah if I had the money I would haha. Thanks for watching!
🤞let's hope ya got what ya need now. I'd almost say find you an older skid steer to deal with the hill issues and lifting capacity if this don't solve it.💪💪
Yeah that would be nice! Maybe one day. I would still need a tractor for the roadside stand though.
@@FirewoodontheHill one day for me too... I'll have to keep borrowing stuff until I find something affordable. 🍻🍻
Would it be better to just put bags in box. That way just pick them out if something needs to be fixed.
They would get wet and I couldn’t get it as heavy with it in the bags.
I got quick hitch on my tractor definitely makes changing attachments nice
Yeah I need to look into those. I have enough attachments now to need one. Thanks for the suggestion!
Leave your max hydraulic pressure alone! You increase that, things will really start to get expensive. Basically your frunt axil is likely to be the first thing to have issues. That frunt end is really getting a workout. 0.01c
I didn’t say anything about turning up the tractor? I just added weight to the rear end of the tractor. That should help with the front axle.
@@FirewoodontheHill agreed, im just throwing out my 0.01c opinion on the next step. LOL
I gotcha. Yeah I’m a firm believer in leaving equipment stock. Whether thats a truck, tractor, log splitter or whatever. They engineered it to its best ability while keeping longevity in question.
Where do you get a bundler like that
Wolfe Ridge Manufacturing! Go check out their website!
All the years I have done fire wood starting in the late 80s . I can’t remember even 1 complaint about my fire wood . I how ever did have to pressure wash a driveway once do to about 3 drops of Oil .
Haha yeah no one likes oil drops on their driveway.
Dont put too much weight on that tractor you gonna break the rear end or the front end, get a bigger tractor if you need to lift more weight, just an advice.👍
I’m no where close to the rear weight limit of the tractor. However I do try to do too much with the loader. I’m hoping the extra weight helps with front axle.
Wow on concrete !!!! I wouldn't !! It's just too permanent !!!
Haha well I think this box will last me forever so I went for it.
Chinese metal.
That’s right. There’s a difference!
Muy lindo Divisor, algún Contacto de Ventas me interesa comprarlo, Gracias
Yes contact Wolfe Ridge manufacturing 715-598-7790.
Hey, brother. Great video as usual! Keep up the good work! Chip
Thank you!
How much for a rank
1/3 of a cord would be two of the $60 racks. So $120
Good luck on sales 👍
Thanks!
the more you have the more you sell, looks great!!!
Agreed! Thanks
I was out making bundles and getting mine filled as your short dropped😂 have a great holiday weekend Matt and Sadie👊🏻🇺🇸
Great minds think alike. Enjoy the holiday!
Hope you sell a lot Matt!
Me too! Thanks
Have a safe holiday weekend.
You too!
Hi Matt, another great idea. If you choose to lower the point at which the chainsaw is mounted, you will not have to rotate the saw so close to vertical. Once again, another example for others to follow. Keep up the grest work!
Thank you and yeah the reason it is so high is the lower I go the smaller diameter I can cut. I really need a longer bar.
You're just like most of the rest of us, always trying to catch up. Your woodyard is definitely taking shape and working on the concrete slab is a great addition. Just like you do a little bit each day to get bucking or splitting done, take time to cleanup a little bit each day. Take care Matt!
That’s right. Thanks for watching!
I had a ms 250 with a 16 and having a log burner used to get the branches off the wind blown trees in the woods .but when I used to go back most of the tree had gone .so I went and got a ms 660 with a 30 on it that was heavy but I never went short of wood through the winters
Yeah big saws have their place!
Common sense would go a long way
Do it for RUclips lol
Have u thought about splitting the junk wood small enough to put in a wood chipper. Make much for the wood yard.
Mulch
Yeah if I would put the time into splitting it I would make it into sellable pieces. it’s just so much work for the little money I would get from it.
Good stuff Matt. Take care.
Thank you sir!
With my junk/scrap wood, i fill up a tote and sale it for cheaper. People around here use it for boiler wood and camp firewood. I also help a couple familys out every year with wood and i give them the scrap wood.
Yeah I’ve tried it all. I sell some but not enough to matter. I’ve also delivered dump trailers filled with wood for free. Just can’t keep up doing that. Maybe once I’m caught up that will work. Thanks for the comment!
Very clever and nice work. You are really doing well as an inspiration for others. Keep up the great work.
Thank you and I try to inspire others!
Why are you not tilting your wood catching basket back? You're losing wood at a greater rate than if you'd tilted your basket back and end up filling up your basket with more wood. It's all about economy of movement. You're wasting too much time and resources doing what you're currently doing. You also have a log lift/table that you can utilize but instead choose to pick logs one at a time. You could increase your production time by using what you already have on hand but choose to neglect it....
I found out that if I tilt it back the wood will just fall out of the back of the bucket. I can get more wood in it this way. Splitting on the non log lift side is way faster than loading wood on the log lift side and walking around.
Hey Matt , the woodyard is looking good . Splitting on the cement pad is nice 👍🏻🇺🇸🪵
Thank you sir!
Matt your wood yard is looking great. Like your new massive pile.
Thank you!
I am still going to try to get down there with excavator and help you .
lol impatient and will probably get it done before you have time.
Looking good Matt
Clean up looks good, put the IBC totes closer your taking 5-6 steps per round , get ‘em right next to ya
Yeah I need to make a platform to get the ibc totes to sit level on the concrete.
Cut and split the “junk” wood for boiler wood , sell it dirt cheap , it’ll take u months to burn all that , might as well sell and make something from it
Yeah it’s going to take longer to cut it up and sell it. I can’t give this stuff away.
Hey, Brother. Great video. Thank you so much. Chip
Thanks for watching!
That concrete pad is gonna be a game changer! Cleanup will be so much easier! I really like your setup Matt👍🏻👍🏻
Yessir! Thanks
Time lapse burn pit videos are the best. Looking forward to that one.
You got it!
Seems like burning all that “scrap” wood would not be appreciated by the neighbors. Seems like you should be able to find someone that would take that wood. If they would just pay for the delivery or just come and get it. I wouldn’t want to manage the burning of all that wood. It would be a waste of time to me. It’s not like it’s small stuff that would burn up relatively quick. That will smolder and smoke for many hours.
I would only burn in the rain and only enough wood to burn for that day. I can’t give the wood away. We don’t get extremes winters.
Matt, great video. Would it help you if you put a couple 6”-8” tall rounds in front of your bucket to rest on when loading from the splitter. That way the wood won’t fall out so much when you load it. I understand that is heavy when full. Just a thought. TY for sharing your videos. Dave D from Maine.
Yeah I’ve tried tilting it and I had wood falling off the back of the bucket. Great idea though! Thanks for watching.
hi there looking good , john
Thanks John
I split the junk right along with the good as I go. The junk get split in huge pieces, piled separately, and I sell it to the outdoor boiler folks dirt cheap. Basically, the only trash I am dealing with is sawdust... I would be awful nervous trying to ever burn that much junk in the woods. You have weeks of constant burning to ever get it all gone. Be careful...or the whole neighborhood will be on fire! 🔥🚒🔥🚒🔥
I have a strategic plan! I’ve burned big piles before. You would be surprised how fast it burns!
@FirewoodontheHill Oh...I know how it burns! That is what I am worried about!🤣
