That Ash is gold! Not everyone has access to it but it is very hard, low moisture, and when it burns, it smells amazing! It is my favorite wood to burn. The 261 did great! Good video guys.
@@765Guys thanks for this video. I may have missed it, but what chain did you run on the 25" bar? EDIT: just rewatched and listened closer. 3/8, full skip.. thanks. I've wondered if my 261C could go bigger than the 20" I run. Even through large, hard, dry logs it *RIPS.* Surprising for its size. It's got way more torque than I anticipated, and a wider power band.
Great video, thank you! The thing with clutch on the outside of the bar like Husqvarna has for a reason, here in Sweden where Husqvarna is made where there are alot of spruce, there are alot of branches to be cut so the saw roll from side to side when you cut them and center gravity is a focus on so the bar is put more to center and clutch on outside on the 560 and 550 just to make you roll the saw from side to side. Thx
Glad this popped up! I have a 462 with a 24" regular bar and the wood Im cutting now and for a while is all tops so everything is tangled and not easy to get to but that thing gets so heavy after about 30-45 minutes so I un-retired a Husquvarna 350 (my first saw) that was barley used at all and its been my go to saw for weeks now but it only has a 18" bar and bending over gets old! Might look into this
Left hand must be on the front handle at all times as the right hand will be going straight across the chain very dangerous as chain tend to rip not cut
This is a great video. Gives a different perspective. You want a small saw for limbing where you need reach and you don’t want to bend over so much. Not like this saw would cut through 24” round. That’s what the big saws are for. I run a 20” on my 261 and a 25” light on my 500i.
Very helpful vid. I wanted to know if my 261 could handle a 25" chain & now I know! Thx for the parts #s too, most appreciated. Until you put on the chaps, you were running with possibly less protective gear than a Pakistani melting scrap iron on a dirt floor wearing a man-dress & safety sandals😉, but you have eye pro & full coverage footgear.👍🏼
Any saw I purchase have dealer put on .50 3/8 sprocket so no extra charge. I purchase 100 ft roll each other year n so can run any bar on any saw n have had 16, 20, n 28 on 261 saw like the 16 for speed n in boom basket but know can put 28 on n still fall one if have to
Well guys ,nice video. I just purchased a 261. I thought they were setting it up with a 20. Now that I need to order new chains I find it has an 18 on it. You 2 make a good video. Informative but yet funny. All I know any good brother would have done the trade as Alex wished like 3 times he suggested Best to be on the right side of the swap. I don’t know how I missed this video. Later my friend.
I hear ya. I have an 18" on my 545 and I would benefit from a longer bar because I cut a lot on the ground, small rounds. I like the feather weight saw and 50cc is enough for me but if i could just straighten up a little more. Not many options with 325 but I noticed in your comments someone mentioned 24 325 050, ill check that out. I noticed little sister is a lefty. Kenny
I’ve wanted to put a 24” on my 545, but I’d have to find a small mount husky 24” bar, I like how stihl uses the same bar mount for a quick test. Yes he is lefty, kind of scary to watch use a chainsaw.. thanks for watching Kenny!
As long as it’s oiling good it looks to be a good combo. Long bar light saw works. Wish my husky 460 was as light as that 261. I switched from a 24 to an 18. The shorter bar really woke up my farm saw. To be honest it made it as fun as a farm saw can be. Hope to get a 70+cc some day. But I really don’t need it lol. Wink wink lol. Good video!
I have a "Short-reach Pole saw" (Echo). They don't make them anymore. Too dangerous for general use i guess... Works PERFECT for what you are trying to do here... Even less power, but the Balance and Reach blows everything else out of the water... I can limb and break down smaller size wood (which ppl Should be burning) all day, with zero back issues or discomfort. Just picture a lightweight Pole Saw, where the bar is just a couple feet long.. You *could hit your boot with it, but it's actually a safer tool because you don't get exhausted and off balance using it. Love the thing 🧡 ~
Thank you for the video. This is exactly what I need. Saving me money and saving my back. Subscribed. Just thinking out loud. The sprocket and chain mod could also work with a 20 inch bar, yes? Since the 20 inch bar drops the power when used stock. Thanks again
@@765Guys Thank you. I'm new here so I have a few questions. How much do the mods play a part in the overall performance in the video. I want to run this setup before doing my WCC mods and wondering if it's worth it.. plus it will be a brand new saw. Just thinking ahead. I ordered the bar, chains, and sprocket. lol I'm going with the 24inch light bar. Thanks again.
@@cappy7676 all the saw has done is a muffler mod, I don’t think it increased the performance much at all. You’d be just as fell off to run a 20 or 25” with a stock saw as with a muffler modded saw. Just be careful running the 25”, as if your pushing it to hard the clutch Will chatter. If your going to run a 25” let the saw do the work and don’t crank on it.
Looks like the 261 handles a 25” well! For me a 18” bar works best. I use the same cutting technique you used in the video. I think it’s the safest, but you bend over the same amount no matter the bar length. If you’re gonna use a longer bar so you don’t have to bend over as much, you need to change cutting techniques. Move to the “stand up and buck” technique. Also, I’m not the safety police by any means, but your brother really needs to watch it. Running that saw left handed makes himself even more susceptible to cutting his leg. His lead leg is on the same side as that bar which puts it a lot closer than a right handed guy. JS. Sorry so long winded! Great video guys, take care!👍🏻
You need a 24" 0.325 bar and narrow kirf chain combo. Probably pull it better. I have done this to my Echo CS-4910. Have not ran it yet but I plan on using it for mostly limbing and smaller pieces so that I wont have to bend over.
@AnHebrewChild Nope, the saw pulls the full comp. Chain just fine. Only down side is you need custom chains, which isn't a big deal as I already have the tools to make them. Just had to buy a spool. Also I don't believe they make 0.325 skip chain. I'm not sure what applications would even need a skip for that size chain.
Do you have any problems with MS 261 CM vapor locking (not restarting) after being run on a hot day. Over 75F. GP outdoors told me to let saw idle 30-60 seconds before shutting it off. This seems to have fixed the problem. Just curious if you have similar problem?
