I've been running a 362 and 192 as my personal setup for a decade. I've got a 201 and a couple farm boss for just in case. I mostly just use work saws lately. Mine just sit. I've got a few 201t for aerial stuff and the whole lineup of husky's offerings for groundwork at my regular job. The 500i is nice for all around groundwork. I'd prefer the 881 to the 3120 but I don't have a need or the funds for one of those as a personal saw and I use what the job gives me.

    I have 3 Stihl saws.
An MS180,an MS 250, and an MS 391.
My 180 and my 250 spend most of their times being hauled around on 2 of my tractors
    I have 2 homemade mounts.
I have found that to be so useful to have a saw on the tractor with me when working in the woods.
Although I would love to have a pro saw, having the three spreads out the wear and tear.
If I could only have one, it would most definitely be a pro.
    Most likely an MS 261.
    Great review!

@@KennyRedSocks I got it for a pretty good price and keep it as my back up saw if the 201 fails or use it just for pruning and light stuff. The 194 is a simple carb saw so no M-Tronic or other electronic on it. It’s just a reliable, powerful lightweight saw. Works great for me.

We ran a couple 362s in Montana my first season of wildland fire, and both crews I’ve been on since have had at least one 362. It’s just a good “little” saw. I just bought one on eBay for myself and got a full wrap and WCS kit because I like them so much. I’m into it for like $1050 vs almost $1500 for the same specs new. That thing is gonna last me a lifetime. Idk if I could say the same for a 391.
Edit: Also, I’ll be running a 28” bar on the 362 with full skip chain. Idk if I’d be willing to do the same on a 391.

    • @mainstreetmower
      @mainstreetmower  2 месяца назад +5

Glad you asked. Prior to the last updates these saws were known as the MS390 (updated once so 1) and MS360 (updated twice so 2). Then back when STIHL only made chainsaws, before blowers and trimmers, there was no MS (MS stand for Motorsäge (German for chainsaw) and the 0 was in the front. So 039 and 036 respectively, during this time odd numbers were residential and even numbers were commercial with a couple exceptions. These numbers correspond to the cubic inches of cylinder volume, thus 3.9 cu/in and 3.6 cu/in

    • @turdferguson2982

@@mainstreetmowerhusky is the reverse of that, I believe. The updated version of that model number and the displacement, or close to it. The 3120 is the third model in the 120cc range. Though on paper it's actually closer to 118. I'm a stihl guy mostly because stihl is still a family owned company and Husqvarna has been publicly traded under the badge of a few different investment groups for half a century now. Currently they're owned by KTM. Echo is a Japanese company. They're owned by the same company that makes shindaiwa saws which are professional and more popular in Japan, also slightly cheaper and often a better saw. The echo t2511 is the same saw as the shindaiwa 251 ts.

My 590 has been a great saw. Use to run a 362 years ago clearing ROW. To this point given the option. I'd pick the echo more times than not. Unless task specific really wanted to shave a lil weight going all day.

Im kinda surprised youd use the 362 in this comparison since stihl is phasing it out next year. The rpm test and bearing size is very telling. I use an old ms310 with a 20" bar and bought a new ms400 with a 25" for most of my firewood and i hardly pickup the ms310 since buying the 400. Theyre almist exactly the same weight, but i cant bare to part with the ms310. Its been a great saw these 15 years and cut untold cords of oak and maple. I replaced the carburetor with a new oem this year because it had some pitting under the needle valve causing flooding, but ither than that its just had routine maintenance.

The 362 is a non starter. Bad power to weight, same class as a 400, (also discontinued and backordered). If you’re paying for a 362, spend $50 more and get a 400, lighter, better power. Moot though as both are leaving the line up for the 400.1. The 391 is an answer to a question never asked and I sell customers a 620 Echo over a 391 every day. Better saw and better value.
