The 400 is a gutsy saw but the 500i only has a 20 inch bar on it, the other 2 especially the 362 would suffer going over 25 inch, great comparison but the 500i is the ultimate beast with the longer bars

  • @davids6557
    @davids6557 11 дней назад +4

I run a second hand 391 as my general saw with a 20" bar and a new 500i with a 25" bar for bigger work. I don't use saws daily and the 500i was an indulgence. If I break the 391, might consider a 400.1 with a 20" bar. It's not about speed, it's about having an adequate enough amount of power to drive whatever bar length you need. A few seconds longer makes no difference to the occasional user.

Its very impressive in that video, i love my 500i but i also love my tweaked 262xp's which it seems very close to. Would definitely consider one in the future, a hot 62-67cc saw is rhe goldilocks zone i think for general work with up to 24/25inch bars.
Nice work guys! A lot of work to put together, if you have a 25inch bar then id love to see 400.1 vs 500 or 462 same bar and chain in some 20 inch plus wood. But i sure you have enough video ideas!

I own a MS261 and absolutely love it. Looking to buy another saw for bigger wood. Probably gonna buy a 500i because it offers a lot of versatility. The combination of a 261 plus a 500i will get you through almost everything you can think of.

Definitely watching with keen interest for the 400.1
I know I asked on LCL but any plans to test with different size bars?
Would love to see how it handles a 28” bar.
Not shared this with the LCL folk yet, but have just gotten in to wood splitting offering a following up service to a tree surgeon m8 - on top of my normal garden work.
I have an echo I think 501 with an 20” bar, and it’s ok, it does the job, but occasionally using tree surgeons Stihl saws, he has a few inc the 400 and 500i with a massive bar, it’s clear how much better they are. So sometime this year, wouldn’t mind upgrading. I think the 400 could be the perfect saw, both for when I’m on the wood splitting jobs, and when working with m8. Comfortable using his saws, but equally don’t like using other’s equipment.
Seeing how big of a bar the 400.1 can handle, will seal the deal.
    Pwetty please 🙏

yes I’ve heard thst, but thx. Sometimes even the new chain can be a bit dull. I mean I expected that difference between the 362 and 400.1 and sometimes Ee’ve seen even the old 400c be close to the 500i, it’s just I’ve only seen the 500i be more aggressive then this one.
I’ve got a 362 love her she is stable, undestroyable which is to prefere. I’ve got the 261c, mostly for the small jobs or a reserv saw, she is light but she is weaker and I prefere the torque. We also have a 572 Husqvarna which I think is the best Husqvarna today. But actually, I can imagine to go for the 400.1 if they show a bit of endurance. I live in Sweden so we’ve always been into Husqvarnas but the 550 and 560 turned out not to be as reliable so we went over to Stihl mostly. Reliability is very important to us because of the lack of infrastructure. So in my case I’ll wait a bit to see the reactions. Impressive though! Take care guys!

Just the opposite can be said about Husqvarna the 200 and 300 series saws are some of the best looking and performing saws of all time! They new 500 series saws may walk the dog but they just don’t got the look.

I saw that all saws cut wood, not the same wood at different speeds. not 362, 400, 500 then 263, 400, 500. My last name is Scott and I'm going to see how much it cost to change it to Irish. ;-)

I have to agree with many here that the 362 was a brand new saw first time running and the other two have been used already. Plus where is the 462? One would think if you want a fair shoot out then have all 4 saws with all new chains and same running time! I run the 362 & my 400 with 24” bars my 461 with a 28” bar and my newly acquired 660 with a 32”-36” bar! Let’s just see how the 462 stacks up against the others? I must state that I don’t run stock saws! 98% of my saws are ported with other mods air filter and muffler. I don’t run a 500 don’t need it!

The quick answer to your question is, yes, would consider buying a 400.1. Unfortunately, nobody can tell me when it will become available for sale. All I hear is 2025….. is that December 2025? I’m also looking at a Husqvarna 562 MkII. Stihl should let their clients know when to expect the new saw!!!

Please do a Stihl MS 400 vs Echo 620P. I believe that the Stihl is a better saw but the Echo is a better value and the performance isn't that far off.

400.1 wouldn't be close to the 500 if dogged heavy or longer bar. There is no replacement for displacement....physics

The only thing I hate is a lot of (useless) cutting above the shoulders level. It is always risky.

Put a 32inch bar on the 400 and run it against the 572 with a 32inch bar and see how it goes.

Can't tell much from cutting that punky, rotten wood but the 500i was definitely a lot smoother than the other saws featured.
