    I LOVE my 462. I primarily use mine for disaster relief with the Southern Baptist Association. I was blown away as well with it's speed, power and weight. Stihl really knocked it out of the park with this one. Very impressive saw. I can run a 36" on mine and have had it completely buried in a 60" diameter oak and it sailed right through it.

    i love mine. i saw 72cc @13lbs and 6hp on the shelf for $1300 and bought it right away.
    it did not disappoint. i have a 395xp as well and it is not losing by a ton cutting 40" rounds.
    at the power to weight you cant't lose.

    Mike, I was a bit skeptical of the M-Tronic too. But after a full year of cutting/clearing for my house using my 261C-M, I’m a believer. It’s like EFI for chainsaws! From the snow and cold of winter to the blistering heat and humidity of this past summer, I never had a problem with fuel mixture, operating temp, or starting. The system is legit! I think the 462 may be a little much for what I need, but it would be fun to use for a month or so!

    Nice saw, I love the Stihl saws. Even though my 30 year old Stihl 025 is still going strong, I decided to get an another one. Since I don't have a sponsorship, I felt that the MS261C-M, was more than enough at a cost of $700+.

    It's a mean saw. I got one last summer. Wasn't much on the shelf when I was at the dealer a few weeks ago. Need something a little lighter for lapping. My old Husky 41 runs good but you know how they are. Sometimes you can pull and pull and they won't start. Maybe a MS 261 C-M with 18" bar. Less a few pounds anyway.

      The information I saw was the 500 was heavier and not as fast as the 462. I do however like the fuel injected platform. Fuel injection has been so much better in snowmobiles I wouldn't even consider a carburated sled at this point. I think the weight and complexity of the fuel injection in a smaller package is the hold up.

    Do you have any idea what these are actively retailing for right now? Stihl's site has no mention anymore and no dealers have them so can only get wild guesses.... Seems this is one of the last of "the old designs" in a lot of ways (this and the non-mtronic 661 I guess) and am not interested in their "newer gen." stuff, the 462 was their only unit I was wanting (that versus the echo 7310, but the 462 seemed to be edging it out IF you could keep its price close to low 1000's!)

    You were aware they make the MS362CM now that replaced your carb version? I have the 362CM now, sold my old 362. The MTronic system gives the saws more lower end torque. I have a MS441CM as well. The MTronic is a great system in my opinion. The nay Sayers hate anything new, I'm sure they still drive vehicles with 3 on the tree transmissions and points under the distributor cap! Lol have a great day!

    The specs on this saw are incredible but it's price point pretty much makes it a pro-only saw. I use an Echo 620PW that I got on sale for $518 (taxes incl.). The Echo is a 60cc saw with 4.5 HP and it weighs 14lbs. Dropping a pound and picking up 33% more power seems like a no-brainer until you consider that after taxes I'm going to be looking at a $1,200 price tag for a saw that, at the end of the day, is still just going to be cutting a lot of firewood; something that my Echo already does very well. If I were using my saw on a daily basis then it would totally be worth it but for a weekend warrior it really can't be justified unless you've just got the money to burn and feel the need to have the very best regardless of whether you actually need it or not. I think for the average Joe this saw is just going to be something that we drool over and talk about with our buddy's but I don't see too many non-pros dropping that kind of money on a firewood saw. The only way I might consider it were if I were going to start doing some small milling and I was still going to be doing a lot of firewooding as well and I wanted a saw that could do both. If you don't want to do both though there are saws out there much better for milling alone and their additional weight isn't much of a consideration. Great video Mike!

    • @junkersish
      @junkersish 5 лет назад +1

    Just out of curiosity , I thought I'd compare the specs between my MS 261C-M and the MS 462C-M, since they are both M-tronic saws.
    Model............................261C-M.................................462C-M.................................Differences
    Displacement:..............50.2cc...................................72.2cc...................................+22.2cc
    Power:..........................3kW (4.02 bhp).....................4.4kW (5.9 bhp)....................+1.88 bhp
    Weight: (Powerhead):.10.8 lbs.................................13.2 lbs..................................+2.40 lbs
    Gas (Max):...................16.9 fl. oz..............................24.3 fl. oz...............................+7.40 fl. oz.
    Bar Oil (Max):...............9.13 fl. oz..............................11.5 fl. oz..............................+2.37 fl. oz.
    Rec. Bar Length:..........16"-20"..................................16"-32"....................................+12"
    Price (MSRP):..............$780 (CDN)...........................$1410 (CDN).........................+$630.00 (CDN)
    NB: When I weighed my MS 261CM with 16" Bar, Chain, Gas and Bar Oil it weighed approx. 14.8 lbs. (Additional 4 lbs)
    That would mean that the MS 462CM would weigh approx. 18 lbs. (Additional 4.8 lbs.)

    I cut a lot of firewood with a Husqvarna 372xp which is a 70cc saw and a Stihl Farm Boss 290. The 70cc is awesome but sometimes I just need a break.

    Looks like a great saw. Time will tell if it holds up. Being that light, I have to wonder wear they saved so much weight. Are the crank and bearings the same size as the 361/362? Seems like they had to skimp on something to pull it off.

    Love the M Tronic Saws. I have a old 029 Super that is almost 25 years old. It is like my kid. I just got a 261cm It is twice the saw of my 029 Super. Yes the M Tronic saws had issues in the beginning but Stihl got it fixed and they are great.

    We run the older model with an 18 inch bar for that reason, it cuts so much better on short bars. It's also when you realise that you can file down the depth gauges further than normal, then they really do cut!

      @reecevazey4278 5 лет назад

      Yea i run a 462 with a 20 light bar and depth gauge low it has quick pick up so as soon as dogs dig in its spiting chips not bogging like if your gauges are low on a longer bar

    Hey Mike, liked the saw comparisons. I do like the altitude compensation feature and doesn’t it also compensate for climate change? The more horses is awesome.
    Did you forget to wake Melissa this morning? She’s going to be mad, missed her work out this morning 👏🏼

    Great saw. Biggest downside I personally see is that it doesn’t seem to be user serviceable if someone wants to tinker with the saw. That’s why I bought the 461 this past weekend. At my local Rural King store too. Stay safe out there and don’t have too much fun.

    Wow that's seems to cut faster then your old saw! Here I thought you were making some cutting boards for your kitchen😂 . Keep up the good work, that would be awesome to add that to your arsenal of logging equipment 👍

    Mike, Husqvarna has been selling a saw like that for decade, without the electronic thought. Never heard of 372xp or Jonsered 2171.

      I'm a Husqvarna fan myself, but I have to admit, Stihl has them beat with the 462. The 372XP is 5.5 HP and 14.6#. The 462 is close to 6 HP and 13.2#

    For me this is not helpful for firewood. You have a big Stihl ms 880 and a ms 362 is perfect for this.😉

    The 462 is a great saw but i still believe the MS 500i is gonna be the true Game changer , to compare i think it would be a difference of going from throttle body injection to tuned port... i may be wrong but im very exited to see the 500i soon i hope. Thats what my money is on

    Wonder if it's gonna be the same situation as with alot of this farm equipment these days,with the proprietary software issues and whatnot? From what i understand,alot of this equipment can't be fixed by the farmer/owner anymore because of that. I wonder if this will somehow wind up in the same situation?? Perhaps i'm wrong. Maybe somebody can clear that stuff up for me,who has dealt with it??

    • @JohnMcNerney
      @JohnMcNerney 5 лет назад +1

      That's pretty much the future of chainsaws - actually, more like the present: both Husqvarna and Stihl are have been transitioning to auto-tune saws for some time now.
