Mike, your review of the Stihl MS 462 C-M caught my gaze. You have my respect and gratitude for the service you provide . After watching your video and reading the numerous accolades of the 462’s abilities written within the comments section I’m, compelled to throw my hat into the ring as well. The all around ergonomics of the 462 makes it a joy to operate. The slender design of the saw’s body packs a responsive powerhouse which promptly domesticates the challenges placed before it. I’ve been involved off & on in arborist work over the years. The Stihl MS 462 C-M with a 24” bar is a tool I instinctively grab largely due to the abilities mentioned above combined with the natural ergonomics of how it comes alive in my hands. Again, respect & gratitude to you…God bless.
As an everyday chainsaw runnin, tree climbin weirdo, the 462 is possibly my favorite saw of all time. I have a 460 and ms461 for comparison also, lots of hours behind the triggers. The 462 is absolute a game changer not only for professionals and guys who feed their families on a saw, but farm/ranch/home use also
just bought one. Pricey at $1200 but it is an absolute beast. It just rips through hard wood and soft and it is light. Instantly my favorite saw and I have more than a few. It will be interesting if it holds up over time
I LOVE my 462. I primarily use mine for disaster relief with the Southern Baptist Association. I was blown away as well with it's speed, power and weight. Stihl really knocked it out of the park with this one. Very impressive saw. I can run a 36" on mine and have had it completely buried in a 60" diameter oak and it sailed right through it.
i love mine. i saw 72cc @13lbs and 6hp on the shelf for $1300 and bought it right away. it did not disappoint. i have a 395xp as well and it is not losing by a ton cutting 40" rounds. at the power to weight you cant't lose.
Great video Mike . Nice to see the comparison of these different saws. These kind of videos certainly can help some people in determining what size and model of saw that they wish to purchase . Thanks
Mike, I was a bit skeptical of the M-Tronic too. But after a full year of cutting/clearing for my house using my 261C-M, I’m a believer. It’s like EFI for chainsaws! From the snow and cold of winter to the blistering heat and humidity of this past summer, I never had a problem with fuel mixture, operating temp, or starting. The system is legit! I think the 462 may be a little much for what I need, but it would be fun to use for a month or so!
Been looking at that exact model to upgrade from my MS 290. Very encouraged by what I have seen so far and look forward to your next video on it. Thanks Mike!
I've been wanting that saw ever since they came out overseas a while ago. My dealer has them on order but they are back ordered right now. Hopefully I'll have one soon.
Fancy stuff but I have an almost 30 year old 066, (with no decom). Other than the fact it is lots to start, it eats up wood and I don't vary my altitude too much. It handles a 28 to 32 in. bar with ease and weighs not much more than your new one. I googled 'stihl 066' to find the lineage and changes. Now a MS 660. Good saws no doubt. BTW … I just changed the changed the oil tank to pump hose for slow oil leak on my MS180c. Wow. What a job, but I still like my Stihls.
Nice saw for sure I just upgraded from a 41 cc husqvarna 5 months ago to a stihl ms660 magnum as my normal firewod saw for myself and my customers and now that is the only saw i use anymore
The information I saw was the 500 was heavier and not as fast as the 462. I do however like the fuel injected platform. Fuel injection has been so much better in snowmobiles I wouldn't even consider a carburated sled at this point. I think the weight and complexity of the fuel injection in a smaller package is the hold up.
@@localcrew I agree it is heavy, but it does throw the chips.I used it a few times on my Alaskan Sawmill. It worked great, but I found a great deal on a Husqvarna 394xp and figured I would use the 394xp on the mill, and not burn up a brand new saw milling lumber, and keep the 461 for cutting trees
You’ll love the Mtronic as the saw breaks in some, if you think it’s fast now, wait till you run 10 tanks of fuel through it! I love your videos, very inspiring to get me off the coach and in the woods, back doing what I love! Thanks a lot.
Heck yes i noticed a huge difference after about 10 tanks and my 3rd sharpen of a brand new chain got my angles and gauges where i like them and it cuts like a hot knife in butter
Nice saw, I love the Stihl saws. Even though my 30 year old Stihl 025 is still going strong, I decided to get an another one. Since I don't have a sponsorship, I felt that the MS261C-M, was more than enough at a cost of $700+.

That is a good saw I like the videos you could use the to cut the big oak I would get a little bit bigger bar hay all them disks you cut off the cherry you can make them into targets for your range you make awesome videos just keep them coming
We run the older model with an 18 inch bar for that reason, it cuts so much better on short bars. It's also when you realise that you can file down the depth gauges further than normal, then they really do cut!
Yea i run a 462 with a 20 light bar and depth gauge low it has quick pick up so as soon as dogs dig in its spiting chips not bogging like if your gauges are low on a longer bar
It's a mean saw. I got one last summer. Wasn't much on the shelf when I was at the dealer a few weeks ago. Need something a little lighter for lapping. My old Husky 41 runs good but you know how they are. Sometimes you can pull and pull and they won't start. Maybe a MS 261 C-M with 18" bar. Less a few pounds anyway.
Saw appears sharper than in yesterday’s video where chips appeared smaller with some dust. Same saw? Where’s the snow that was in the forecast? Better than the rain you were getting yesterday.
Hey Mike, liked the saw comparisons. I do like the altitude compensation feature and doesn’t it also compensate for climate change? The more horses is awesome. Did you forget to wake Melissa this morning? She’s going to be mad, missed her work out this morning 👏🏼 Thanks for sharing with us.
Great saw. Biggest downside I personally see is that it doesn’t seem to be user serviceable if someone wants to tinker with the saw. That’s why I bought the 461 this past weekend. At my local Rural King store too. Stay safe out there and don’t have too much fun.
Looks like a beast, so is the price tag😕. I just bought a ms311 and that is a beast. I not sold on more electronics on a chainsaw. Good video. Get some logs up to splitter area before the next rain maker gets there. We here in Indiana are going to get hit with another weekend of rain storms.☔
Great video as always :) I got a 462 but without the M-Tronic system. The saw really is a game changer. I compared it to the MS 440 that belongs to my neighbor and I must say it is noticeably stronger and faster but also lighter, which results in a smiling face while using the 462. It can handle all the wood that is in my forest (oak and beech mostly - up to 1m in diameter). Since I will be using it for firewood for myself and helping out my Family and Friends (30-40m³ of firewood /year) I am guessing that the saw will serve me well for decades (with proper care and maintenance of course). So far I am very satisfied with it. Keep the videos coming :) Greetings from Bosnia and Herzegowina
Wow that's seems to cut faster then your old saw! Here I thought you were making some cutting boards for your kitchen😂 . Keep up the good work, that would be awesome to add that to your arsenal of logging equipment 👍
The specs on this saw are incredible but it's price point pretty much makes it a pro-only saw. I use an Echo 620PW that I got on sale for $518 (taxes incl.). The Echo is a 60cc saw with 4.5 HP and it weighs 14lbs. Dropping a pound and picking up 33% more power seems like a no-brainer until you consider that after taxes I'm going to be looking at a $1,200 price tag for a saw that, at the end of the day, is still just going to be cutting a lot of firewood; something that my Echo already does very well. If I were using my saw on a daily basis then it would totally be worth it but for a weekend warrior it really can't be justified unless you've just got the money to burn and feel the need to have the very best regardless of whether you actually need it or not. I think for the average Joe this saw is just going to be something that we drool over and talk about with our buddy's but I don't see too many non-pros dropping that kind of money on a firewood saw. The only way I might consider it were if I were going to start doing some small milling and I was still going to be doing a lot of firewooding as well and I wanted a saw that could do both. If you don't want to do both though there are saws out there much better for milling alone and their additional weight isn't much of a consideration. Great video Mike!
Echo and Dolmar are a lot of saw for the money, Husky and Stihl pro grades are undoubtedly the most productive but too much $ for the weekend firewood operation.
i bought the smaller 501p since i already have bigger saws. very satisfied! i didn't think i would liked it since i always been a jonsered/husky fan but it does the job quite well
Can you also see how big a bar it can pull without going to different sprocket or a skip tooth chain. Seems like it would make a good medium size felling saw if it could pull at lease a 32".

I traded my 362 on a 461 last year. Yes, quite the difference when you step up to the 70 cc range. Personally, after having a 261 and now the 461, I don’t know why I ever bothered with the 362.
Mike: I got the 462 last year from Europe before they became available in the US this year (and saved some $$, too!). It is amazing. A bit lighter than the new Husky 572xp. It has a lot of "pull" into the wood, much like the old muscle saws used to but at a fraction of the weight. I just love chainsaws ! (cheaper than boats or cars!) Hope you enjoy it!
Looks like a great saw. Time will tell if it holds up. Being that light, I have to wonder wear they saved so much weight. Are the crank and bearings the same size as the 361/362? Seems like they had to skimp on something to pull it off.
Mike You were aware they make the MS362CM now that replaced your carb version? I have the 362CM now, sold my old 362. The MTronic system gives the saws more lower end torque. I have a MS441CM as well. The MTronic is a great system in my opinion. The nay Sayers hate anything new, I'm sure they still drive vehicles with 3 on the tree transmissions and points under the distributor cap! Lol have a great day!
How many hours per year do you put on a saw? How often and $$$ of maintenance ? How many years of hard use can we expect from a new saw? Thanks so much! I really enjoy your videos! Hi to the family, best wishes.
Cutting crooked looks like but it’s bad. Every timeI try to sharpen chain it cuts crooked. That’s why I pay my neighbor to sharpen 😂. I wanna see what you think of the 241. People I’ve talked too say it’s their favorite saw to cut with, say it’s crazy how fast it cuts for its size
That thing is a beast! I personally can't justify upgrading my chainsaws for what I do. We don't cut and sell firewood, we are still clearing our property. I have the MS-271 which does just fine for my needs as well as a couple of smaller Echo and Craftsman chainsaws. I wouldn't mind having a few of those slivers that you cut up. I could make a few nice things with some of those.
Good evening. I've got a 660 Magnum. Bought it with a 28" & 34" bars. The 34 keeps me from bending over all day. But I'm looking for a smaller saw when I don't have a big tree. I dropped right at $1565. Saw bars chains & a pack of full synthetic oil. That 362 391 & 462 are what I'm bouncing around.
M tonics was done for emissions reasons not our benefit. That said the next step will be real efi like on the new 500. The 362 is kinda heav saw for its power I run a 260 and 460.
When is the 462 going to be available for purchase in the USA? None of the dealers I’ve spoken to over the past year seem to know anything about it when I inquire about the 462. We’ve got a lot of timber I need to clean up. Tim @ Cliffside Acres
Tim , im in northern ohio, my local dealer had one , soldit the first day he had it. He said they are available here , but they have to lean on their regional distribution center pretty hard to get one.
In your next saw video could you talk about the fuel you use? Have you tried the engineered fuel that has a long shelf life or 100% fuel vs ethanol. Since you cut a lot of wood you've probably got some preferences. Thanks.
Mike I watch and love your videos religiously, but here lately everything has been all commercial equipment, not the friendly home owner versions, I dont know anyone the can smartly spend $1,000 on a saw just to cut firewood. Commercial use yes that saw will tear up some wood definitely. Keep up the hard work and keep the videos coming. Have a wonderful day.
Lot of folks are "afraid" of m-tronic, claiming it increases the maintenance cost. many repair shop don't/cant work on them and have to ship them back to Stihl for tuning or repair. I am in the market for a Saw now and the religious debate between Stihl / Husq/ Echo is ridiculous. I am leaning toward the Echo CS-590, but then again, I don't know many who regretted buying the tried and true Stihl. Ohh the agony of choice.!!

I agree, heck of a saw but a little over kill for most guys. If you needed a saw everyday all day though this would be a great choice
Nice cutting.
That BTE over molding on the handle wont hold up! Not skookum at all!!
I looked online to find how much the 462 C-M is and saw prices ranging from 1,600 to 2,400 bucks. That's insane. Looks like a nice saw.
jpprind it’s about 1100 where I am (ny)
I got mine for 2200 nz dollars
Good evening. I've got a 660 Magnum. Bought it with a 28" & 34" bars. The 34 keeps me from bending over all day. But I'm looking for a smaller saw when I don't have a big tree. I dropped right at $1565. Saw bars chains & a pack of full synthetic oil. That 362 391 & 462 are what I'm bouncing around.
Get the 462 you will love it its perfect with the 20 inch light bar if you want a short bar but it will spin a 28 easy
Took delivery of my MS462 2wks ago. 20 & 25" bars. Been super busy hauling propane. Saw is super light. Haven't had time to let it eat yet.
Saw both bars & a pack of mix oil otd $1399.00
Chains and 2 gallons of bar oil as well.
wish i could get this saw but sadly i need to buy the 880 next
I think my next saw.
Nice saw
Enjoy that saw!

Funny thing is he does not have a real job... Multi-level Marketing of these oils ppl buy to feel better!
Holy Moly Mike, looks like your training for a lumberjack contest. LOL
Not bad for a rookie. Any advice on care and feeding of fuel? Stabil, non ethanol, Sea Foam ?
M tonics was done for emissions reasons not our benefit. That said the next step will be real efi like on the new 500. The 362 is kinda heav saw for its power I run a 260 and 460.
I’m holding out and hoping Stihl sends you the new MS500 to test.
I like! !!
Now you're talking. Been waiting a long time for their US release of this saw.
Great job enjoyed that
I got that saw I’m more impressed with that tractor ya got
I had to go up to a 661 magnum because you cant find any 4-series saws anywhere these days!
Always use the tractor to lift the logs to you, saves your back.
That saw Rips!
Nice saws! #WorldsOkayestFarmer
you sure that log wasn,t made out of butter....wow....sell those discs branded ODWTM,s
In your next saw video could you talk about the fuel you use? Have you tried the engineered fuel that has a long shelf life or 100% fuel vs ethanol. Since you cut a lot of wood you've probably got some preferences. Thanks.
I buy ethanol free gas for all my small engine equipment
@@NorthForkHollow took me 26 years to figure that out.
@@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans where at Mike? Can you say? Glassmere in Cheswick Pa ( close to me) sells it but wont be delivered till April .

@@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans THANKS MIKE!
MS462 with a bar, chain and fuel weighs in at 19.7 pounds.
Mike, Husqvarna has been selling a saw like that for decade, without the electronic thought. Never heard of 372xp or Jonsered 2171.
I'm a Husqvarna fan myself, but I have to admit, Stihl has them beat with the 462. The 372XP is 5.5 HP and 14.6#. The 462 is close to 6 HP and 13.2#
Mike if you would of cut them a little thicker you could use them to make a nice walkway lol!
Is it better than ms 381?
Lot of folks are "afraid" of m-tronic, claiming it increases the maintenance cost. many repair shop don't/cant work on them and have to ship them back to Stihl for tuning or repair. I am in the market for a Saw now and the religious debate between Stihl / Husq/ Echo is ridiculous. I am leaning toward the Echo CS-590, but then again, I don't know many who regretted buying the tried and true Stihl. Ohh the agony of choice.!!
Nice looking cookies partner. ;
Ja Super......
Serving trays or bread boards
Only for a day or two until the wood starts to dry out and crack and warp.
I see you took sage advice :) She can run up to a 3 footer so enjoy.
That is just about as fast as the souped up ones the pros use in competitions
Why are u cutting saw logs Mike. Just kidding love the new saw!!!
Weirdest wooden frisbee I've ever seen. 👍fun way to make'em though!
