    Hi Tracy, God Bless You! First thank you for such a great resourceful video you have created about Liberty University Academy. I am a Doctoral Student at LU and I am fascinated with my classes. I learned about this Christian Academy for K12 Students recently and I am pondering the idea to Home School my kids.
    I live in NYC and there is an active indoctrination with evil ideologies, and hyper sexualization of kids in schools here.
    Thank You so much!

      You are most welcome, Jose! I am so glad you are considering homeschooling your children. Unfortunately, it seems like there is quite a bit of the same in lots of areas other than NYC. Now is a great time to homeschool and there's not one way to do it. You can customize a program just for your kids. There are many, many creative choices. I wish you all the luck. Please check back and let me know how it's going for your family. Make it a great day!

    I’m in 7th grade and have been thinking about going to Liberty University for 8th grade. The only set back is the friendships I’ve built and that you aren’t speaking face to face with a teacher. I think in the classroom its easier for a teacher to explain. I am glad that they have a flexible schedule though because my family is often busy. (I have three other siblings) Thanks for the video! It gave me a lot more info.

Your teacher is always available by email, but sometimes it can take up to 24 hours for a response. You could always try one class to see if you like it (maybe your favorite subject so the pressure is off). Just a thought. Please keep in touch and let me know how it goes for you.

    Do you still have the same thoughts about LUOA? I have seen the reviews over the last year go downhill quickly and I'm wondering if their systems/structures are overwhelmed by the volume of interest in home/online learning? Many people in reviews are complaining about not being able to get help when needed (from teachers, admin, or IT), and kids falling behind and being failed for assignments and courses. What are you thoughts this year? And what grades are your kids in? Do you know anything about the high school academy?

    • @heytheretracyh

      Hey there! First I want to say I am sorry. I can almost sense how anxious you must be at trying to make a decision about homeschool and choosing the right curriculum for your family. You have already done the hardest part-deciding to homeschool. I hope that encourages you...now to your questions: We love LUOA/Ember still. I never experienced not being able to get help. I think some might not understand the way the LUOA is set up for help. Immediate questions should be directed to the "phone teacher" (there is always someone on call). When the student's assigned teacher is asked a question it does take about 24 hours for a teacher to answer sometimes. I was always able to reach a counselor or an IT person every single time I called. Additionally, we have exclusively used LUOA/Ember since kindergarten. Our son is now in the 3rd grade. The curriculum is demanding for sure and many are not prepared for the amount of reading and writing that is required beginning in the 2nd grade. I have not experienced the high school curriculum, but we have no plans to change. I have said before that the curriculum is challenging, but I also believe it is well rounded and fair with its expectations. Transferring to LUOA from a traditional school environment can also present its own set of issues and some find the process overwhelming. Usually all the challenges work themselves out as everyone acclimates to a new system, though. I hope that helps you. Please don't hesitate to reach out if I can help answer anything else. Make it a great day!

    Do you mind if I ask how long (on average) does it take for you to get through a day of lessons on a 4 day school schedule? My child is going to be in first grade and we’re considering switching to LUOA this next school year. In deciding which route to go, I’m curious as to how long the lessons take each day. My child is neurodivergent, so I’m concerned about sensory overload and burn out from doing too much too fast. Kindergarten took us about 45 min up to 2 hours each day depending on the subject, and we used an online school program for that as well. It was the perfect amount of learning time and my child thrived.

      Hey there! Ember is great, too. It’s the same curriculum, but mirrors a traditional homeschool program because the parents do the actual grading. You will need to make the schedule for the year with Ember, though. As far as screen time, I don’t find it to be too much. It’s a combination of worksheets, presentations created by the student, and the lessons/tests that are on the screen. Each lesson (up to about 5th grade) is about 35-40 minutes. I hope that helps.

  • @nataliestark8243
    @nataliestark8243 2 года назад +1

    Biggest con I can see is that their LMS doesn't have a built in text-to-speech. A screen reader isn't quite the same as built in voice options (such as other online schools who run Ignitia). I didn't hear anything about possible course extensions for extra time, is an option for if the student needs more than 10 months? Do they offer tutoring to students who need extra help?

    • @heytheretracyh
      @heytheretracyh  2 года назад +1

      What great questions, Natalie! It would be nice to have a text-to-speech option for those who need it, but as of now, that option is not available. As for extra time for assignments, students really aren't penalized for late assignments unless they are 2 weeks late-and you should always let the teacher know in those cases. Having said that, LUOA does have specialists who can help with a 504 plan and accommodations (time restrictions, timed tests, assignment extensions, etc.). There would be extra teacher correspondence from the student's teacher and there is a teacher on-call with the helpline (available through live chat or by phone), but there is no tutoring program. If the student needs longer than 10 months, it is possible to request an extension for a month. If approved, there is no additional charge. If a second month (extension) is needed after that, another extension would need to be approved and there is a $50 charge for each course requiring the extension. I hope that helps, but if you have any other questions please feel free to email academic support at luoaacademicsupport@liberty.edu. You might also consider registering for one or 2 classes to see how it goes. Enjoy the summer!

    as a student who currently attends this school, i am in 11th grade and have been attending it for two years, i personally do not recommend going to this school. the curriculum is very hard to work with and if you dont have the option to work with your parents to help you (both of my parents work full time during the day) it can be harder to understand the content. even though it is very much possible to work on your own since this is more of an independent learning school. but as i stated earlier, the coursework is unbelievably challenging to work with, most of the classes aren't even up to date with other schools. i am currently taking a math class featuring math concepts from the 90s :/ which isnt helpful at all, the teachers are wonderful to communicate with and are very understanding but that is pretty much the only positive experience i have had with this school. since attending i have honestly struggled to grasp subjects and concepts and even if i performed better with the help of my parents i should NOT need the help. even my sister who started attending this school earlier in the year has struggled and stated that she hates school, which she never had before in the past. in the end, it is very draining trying to keep up with the constant work that just doesn't follow through, next year i will finish my final year of high school in a local public school. for the amount you have to pay for this school, it is definitely NOT worth it.

      i’m sorry, but i politely do not agree with this. i understand that being in high school things will be harder as you go up a grade but keeping up with the constant class work when the school has said beforehand that it will be “easy to maintain” or that i can have a “flexible schedule” but it really isn’t. i currently work a part time job to help save for when i move out and it’s vital that i’m able to save that money, but because this school doesn’t really provide me with the care i want in these classes it has made it very difficult and stressful for me to continue to work at my job, in the end, i am not trying to be rude or disrespectful i just disagree and still stand my ground as a student to not attend this school

      Hey there! The videos are supplements to the curriculum and are imbedded within it. There is a misconception that the videos provide instruction. The teachers at LUOA are there to grade assignments and to provide guidance and/or assistance when there is an issue, but you would be responsible for facilitating the learning environment. Hello. I was truly considering Enlightium Academy before coming across your video. Has anyone heard of this school? Seem great but also too good to be true?
    Both my kids, rising 4th & 6th, are not so independent academically. They are very much used to brick and mortar school, being taught the material and being given an already made study guide to memorize then take the test.
    Does Liberty University have a lot of support and help for the children if they dont understand the material? This is my biggest concern.
    Enlightium Academy does offer all the extra help (of course it costs extra) but they seem to have mixed reviews. More positive reviews than bad (but this could also be very biased.. maybe they also discounted their tuition for a good review??)

      A school that teaches mainly through digital text and assume children would be independently learning would not be something my kids cam follow so easily.

    • @heytheretracyh
      @heytheretracyh  Год назад +2

      Hey there! I haven't heard of Enlightium Academy. We have been exclusively using LUOA's curriculum since we began homeschooling. Based on what you have shared, it looks like LUOA might not be a good fit for your family. I elaborate in this video ruclips.net/video/H7D-QQxSmhY/видео.html. LUOA boils down to this: The student works independently or the parent teaches/facilitates the curriculum. It really depends on the student. There are some short video clips embedded in the lessons, but they are designed to supplement the written material. The student's assigned teacher is there for feedback on submitted assignments and for grading purposes. The student's assigned teacher is accessible by email only and may take up to 24 hours to resolve any issues or questions; however, students/facilitators do have access to a "phone teacher". The "phone teacher" is available by phone or chat for clarification on lesson instructions or general concepts in the midst of a lesson, but would not usually be the student's assigned teacher. The "phone teacher" does not do any teaching of the lessons. LUOA has curriculum samples available at www.liberty.edu/online-academy/. I hope that answers your questions. I wish you the best of luck during your search. Everyone's homeschooling journey is different. It can be long and sometimes difficult, but it is worth it-I promise. Please check back and let me know what you discover. Cheering for you!

      @@heytheretracyh Are your kids able to participate in extra curriculum activities as well?

      Do you mean with the school district? My state currently does not allow homeschoolers to participate with the PS kids, but there are 22 states that do allow homeschoolers to participate. I would encourage you to reach out to your district and see. Many states are warming to the idea of changing rules regarding participation-especially due to the number of families homeschooling now. How old are your children?

    What is the teaching style for fifth grade?

    • @heytheretracyh
      @heytheretracyh  2 года назад

      I am not entirely sure what the teaching style is for 5th grade. I think the style depends on both the teacher (parent) and the student. I have not taught the 5th grade curriculum yet. You can sample the curriculum, though. Click this link and scroll until you find the grade you are looking for. www.liberty.edu/online-academy/curriculum-preview/. I hope that helps.

    do the teachers help the students?

    • @heytheretracyh
      @heytheretracyh  2 года назад +1

      Liberty gives the parent access to the curriculum and the parents teach it to the student. There is no daily interaction with teachers; however, you can get clarification from your child's teacher by email. They usually answer within 24 hours. If you require assistance during a lesson, you will be able to reach an "on-call" teacher. Your teachers record the grades and give feedback on assignments, but they do not work with the students directly. I hope that helps you.

    Can I do this as an 18 year old senior? Also is it easier than public high school?

    • @heytheretracyh
      @heytheretracyh  2 года назад

      I am sure you can. You will need to apply, submit a transcript and be accepted. The curriculum has presentations, quizzes, tests, assignments, etc. that will need to be graded. I feel like it’s a pretty balanced curriculum, but I’m not sure if I’d say it’s easier than public high school. There is a preview of the curriculum on their website. Check it out at www.liberty.edu. Good luck!

      Hey there! Since LUOA is an accredited school, I really don't see the reason why a student couldn't go on to any institution of higher learning including the ones you mentioned. You may even find LUOA's curriculum better prepares its students for higher education than a traditional school model. I wish you luck. I hope that helps.
