Your kids are doing their schooling at home, you are the authority and everything coming into your home, goes thru you to your children - so they are homeschooled. Anything at home is better than anything out there. Keep up the good parenting brother! I’m sorry there are folks out there thinking more highly of themselves than they should, in that, their way is the only way. Nonsense. We homeschooled even with college. Our 22 year old is self employed and doing well. Our oldest has an intel job. Praising Yah. Blessings to you and your family, Zach.

We’ve been using BJU (Bob Jones University) since our oldest was in preschool. He started the 3rd grade this year and has always loved it. We choose to use their online program and couldn’t be happier. The price is fair and he has learned more than I learned at his age in public school!
When I meet other homeschool families, one of the first questions to come up is what curriculum I use. Sometimes I get the impression that they don’t really view me as homeschooling since I use an online program and it irks me too. I am doing the best I know to do for my kids (8 and 4). My husband works full time, we live on a farm raising beef cattle, we have two milk cows, chickens, a greenhouse and garden. I can’t do it all so yes, I proudly outsource what I need to. I’m fully involved and it has been a blessing to us. I was stressed years ago and this has lifted a burden from my shoulders. You’re doing a great job too and I’m glad that you found what works for you and your sons!

I understand that for all practical purposes, you are homeschooling. But when your children are enrolled in a private school remote education program, you don't have to register with your state as a homeschool. (That is assuming that you live in a state that requires that accountability; some do not - such as TX and OK.) I'm not saying that the way you educate your children is inferior in any way to what the Department of Education means by homeschooling - such as when you order BJU or Abeka Book or Christian Light or whatever and keep the scores and grades yourself. I'm just saying that we must differentiate so that we know whether we are required by law (in many states) to register as homeschoolers.

  • @linak7155

We made use of BJU, SonLight and A Beka Curriculum. They all had their plusses n minuses. At around the end of eight grade our son wanted to 'experience' a school setting, so we enrolled him in a Christian school then another n finally a Tech High School. As parents we all wrestle with decisions as to what's the best course to follow. There's no substitute to daily prayer n striving to Live it. Focusing on the virtues is so important and practicing lots of patience n kindness...I have learned that the Father is faithful and blessed our efforts. ❤️

That's insane! Especially when you have multiple kids you're homeschooling on top of homesteading, (we have four) and when we brought home our third child I realized I couldn't handle building our own curriculum and run a homestead. So we started using the Ron Paul curriculum and absolutely love it. They have a la carte purchasing options and have a 60 day money back guarantee. We are also very aware of other children and their home life influence that may expose unwanted topics to our children.

We used Liberty for our children (mostly) we did find some things that we didn't like/agree with, BUT -because it was at home we could monitor it, confront it, or change it completely as needed. The college courses they could take were helpful, it nearly cut their BA/BS degrees in half...which ='s saved money. You are not wrong about the math.

Homeschooling is a lifestyle and it can change as the need dictates. I don’t know why people think there is one way to do things but I see this way of thinking permeating lots of topics. In the end we all want to give our children an education that builds a sold foundation in Christ and academics. While there are negative reasons that steer us to homeschooling like a decaying culture and an insipid education system ...there are so many positive reasons to home education and for me the biggest reason is time spent with my children. I am so thankful for all the time spent with my kids that homeschooling gave me. I definitely have opinions about schooling but they are just that opinions. But ultimately if your children and you are flourishing then you have found the sweet spot in homeschooling. We often forget but homeschooling is about the parent too. It’s a long haul commitment so if it’s burning you out change things. I am glad you found what works for you and the boys when you were in a tough season. That’s the beauty of taking control of our children’s education.....our method should serve us and not the other way around.

I started homeschooling my kid because one they weren't teaching him how to read and just pushing him through. But the final nail was whenever he was getting beat up by a kid that's 2 years older just because he was a white kid. If the roles were reversed my child would be expelled for a hate crime. The other child didn't have anything done to him

Anyone who would lecture someone about their homeschool choices and say that their way is the only way, totally misses the point of homeschooling. If I were to guess, they’re stuck on the rigidity that comes with the public school model.
For those of you that went to public school (I did), how much of what you learned there do you use in your lives today? I’m pretty sure I already know the answer. Why would we use a model, even in a homeschool setting, where the knowledge acquired is pretty much useless when we get older?
As far as socialization goes, this topic baffles me when people talk about homeschoolers not being socialized. If you mean not going through the meat grinder of bullies and cliques that make up public schools? Yes.

    • @schuylergeery-zink1923
      @schuylergeery-zink1923 Год назад

My husband started off by saying that “socialization/ahem meat grinder” was good pain for a kid to experience. I disagreed. While it did give me an opportunity to call out some bullies picking on a mentally disabled kid in high school… I don’t think for the most part going through that hell teaches kids to be good and collaborative with others and instead to be compliant with bullies or be cut throat and exclusive bc that is the culture. But in terms of REAL socialization we know that happens all the time through other activities and out and about in the world in addition to at home with the family.

💯 agree. Know you got a good set up for this year - last year we switched our curriculum over from secular to Godly. We use a Bible-based curriculum by Generations (Kevin Swanson). Their missions statement is not so much homeschool but home discipleship (love that). When different understanding of scripture arise (as they will), we refer back to the Bible. It involves more parent involvement in terms of correcting work, etc. for older kids - younger kids is more involved, but the first grade reader will be a little-kid version of the Bible. This curriculum also respects the fact that kids are supposed to help out around the house and have things to do other than school. Upper level math and science are harder - we are still figuring out which Godly ones we like (Generations doesn’t have the upper levels yet). Right now we’re sticking with Saxon math bc the format is easy to understand.
You’re absolutely correct - school is not only abt the curriculum, but also abt the values of adults and children who are in the schooling environment. My friend’s kids are in NY - two years ago the French teacher sent a sheet home with students to fill out indicating what pronouns she should call the students during various activities (what do you like to be called at at home, at school, when you raise your hand, etc). And another teacher wrote all the kids’ names on the board and then put if they were Republican or Democrat next to their names. Now, in 6th or 7th grade the kids are being shown a cartoon health video telling them that they can change gender, all they have to do is go see an endocrinologist. When a parent went to the news to complain abt the transgender values being pushed on her child, the local news story made her look bigoted.
I also wanted to say abt your last video on the Torah - I watched it 3x, my kids & husband watched 2x - very inspired, thank you for it.

"Facebook is a trashcan, and I don't like smelling like trash." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm gonna start using that! I got off there around the same time you did, I think. I loved the platform for years, but there's just so much division..... everyone seems to be out to prove that their POV is correct. And it seems like everyone is trying to brand themselves now, on their personal pages! Ugh. I am so over that!
LU! I don't know anything about their homeschool curriculum, but I went to high school there at Lynchburg (now Liberty) Christian Academy. I still have a lot of ties to Liberty, including family that works on campus. Like you said, no one is perfect and there are scandals everywhere we turn, it seems, but over all they're a really good school.
Our family has always unschooled. Our 3rd is about to graduate, and we have 3 more who are thriving. We do not test or put emphasis on book smarts, so I really don't announce to people about our unschooling philosophy.....but it works well for us. I've told many people through the years who are single parents or where both parents have to work, that homeschooling is possible for anyone, you just have to figure out what works for you. And that can change through the years! But there are so many different styles and philosophies, I like to encourage people to find what works for them as the parents and for the children. Great video! I'm glad ya'll like your choice of curriculum! 🙂

Taking your kids out of an environment where others can negatively impact their understanding of the world that you yourself have already had a chance to discern as an adult is what a responsible parent does. Those that disagree or believe that all children should go to public school don’t have that same level of discernment or don’t understand that each child and their situation is different at home, as you said, and they may not have the mental capacity to weed out or strength to say something to defend themselves.

We love Teaching Textbooks here! We are in our 20th year of homeschooling after graduating 3 of 4 of ours kids. Our baby is a Freshman.
In regards to your rant, I honestly don't care why someone is homeschooling or what curriculum they use. That is their family's decision. BUT, we do need to keep the line drawn for freedom purposes. Homeschooling is parent-led curriculum whether purchased privately or created by the parent. Public school at home is governement-led when you use their supplied curriculum or resources.
We chose parent-led so I do not have government in my business. Thank goodness for the state of OK. A lot of my friends who use public school resources at home have checks and balances they must follow.
OK does not require anything from me. No registration, no attendance, no records, no testing, no evaluation, etc. In fact, there are no school-related records with my children's info anywhere in the state except in my home.

There is no way staff do not see this as an issue. The school is a 7/10 and there were a few overdoses since my son started there in August 2023. Some of the teachers are good. The curriculum is not challenging enough. We came from a State where passing is a 65. Here in Maryland passing is a 60, that is crazy. I hated math but loved Saxon math (I think that's what it was called) compared to all the others my parents tried to teach us with. So glad I was home schooled and would do it if I had kids today.

I didn't know there were levels of purity for home schooling. Honest info/feedback to Liberty about math you'd think would be embraced. and they should invite you to pioneer a solution, in house - for a fee of course.
The beer I'm trying...: a taint of sweetness that i prefer not, creamy froth and hoppy makes up for it..

We are in the process of making the switch! I have a senior who I am obviously not HS he’s off to college. But I have a soon to be 9th,7th and 2nd grader two in which are on IEPs and I feel at least my middle schoolers needs aren’t being met. Seeing she has a B in x class but she’s failing every test… why is she failing every test??? Because she isn’t being taught what she needs to know for the test and she is being shoved along on to the next grade .

I homeschooled my children in the 80's and 90's. I didn't have the means to buy ciriculum. I used various sources, discarded public school text books, Mcguffy Readers, Bob books, board games, 4h, cassette tapes and many other sources. All three of them are independent adults and contributing members of society. They believe in Yeshua and have taught their children to do the same. I came to walk Torah 9 years ago which was too late to raise them in the way but they do join me for
some of the feasts. I would have done some things differently had I known then what I know now, however I am very happy for what I was able to give them and how they are doing. I pray that they will continue to grow in YHWH.

Wow - they did a excellent job on how to educate
Teaching them how to learn is one of the best lessons we could ever give children
*As adults are STILL learning daily *
    Thank you sir !

What are you using now for high school? My son is going into 9th this fall and I’m so torn. We’ve been using ACE this year but I’m not in love with it. At least not the history part. Too much focus on church founders and not enough on actual world and US History. I’ve also had to supplement the English curriculum with classical novels through memoria press.

@@mamabar6811 we use alot of everything like math is teaching textbooks cd rom, and history comes from our home library from a mixture of books we got from yardsales, homeschool sales, and our local Christian school sales, I have been teaching them cursive for writing so we use print outs online for their grades, they go to a co-op on Fridays and learn science and different subjects there, we also homestead so that is also life skills ect..we don't stick to ONE particular curriculum...but we've use abecka(health and science), teaching textbooks, mcguffy readers, library, internet ect..

This may be a little long, but I have an important point to consider (regarding legal requirements), so please hear me out:
The technical difference between *homeschool* and *public- or private-school-at-home* is not which curriculum you use. It's simply who keeps the records and issues the grades and/or diplomas. If I order Abeka Book curriculum, and I teach my children with the books at home, administer and grade tests, and keep records of their progress, then I am homeschooling. But, if Abeka Book offers a program that I can pay for (and I don't know if they do-- it's just an example) whereby my children get materials and website access from Abeka Book, and they do the required work and tests at home and send it to Abeka Book to be scored, and Abeka Book subsequently sends me (the parent) their grades & graduation certificates, then the children are being educated at home but not legally homeschooled. They are enrolled in an accredited school! It is my understanding that if your children are enrolled in a public OR private school-at-home program, then you would not have to file a Notice of Intent (NOI) to Homeschool because the children are enrolled in an ACCREDITED school, be it online, via mail, or whatever. If you order textbook- or workbook-based curriculum and then keep your own records of grades, then your home school is, legally, a non-accredited private school. In this case, you must file a NOI to Homeschool with the Department of Education. The only reason I can see that the difference is important is so we know whether or not we are required by state law to file the NOI form.
Personally, I don't believe that civil government has the right to govern matters relating to education. In my understanding, it is not a role that God intended for government to play. It's not the government's responsibility to make sure children are educated. But that's a whole different topic altogether! 😉

Yes… I know a teenager who switched to Accelis (so?) online school, it’s accredited ig. The public school got upset at first and tried to get the kid in trouble but eventually had to cease bc the kid was enrolled in a new program. It was wild.

This was super helpful! I actually learned a lot from your comment and appreciate you taking the time to write it out. In New york state we still have to send in the NOI. They're strict here when it comes to homeschooling. They make it so it's harder for parents to choose and do homeschool for their children here.

    • @maryl8132
      @maryl8132 Год назад

It depends on what state you live in. Here in NY, accredited schools are not recognized. So even if you’re homeschooling your kids through an accredited online school, it makes no difference here. You are required to keep all the records and submit the required paperwork to your local school district.

I have great respect for parents that home school their children. The current system of things along with anti-god sentiment just in your face at all times it seems. I am fortunate that I grew up 1950-1960 Era, in the country of Western Pennsylvania in a small town where almost everyone was a first, second or third cousin. Everyone in town, maybe did not know MY name, but knew who my parents are or were. In the summer we had some chores, but could jump on our bikes and explore, but had to be home before supper. After supper go out again, but he home before or as the street lights came on. Never had any children, but would home school my children or grandchildren today. I support parents that home school or even send children to private school, if they can afford to. All you parents who home school I applaud you!

So glad you mentioned the LUOA math! My 9th grader just agreed completely with you!! He just finished his 9th grade with LUOA’s Enhanced program. One major frustration we had with the Enhanced classes is that whatever “bolt on” curriculum Liberty has purchased is pretty rigid. For example, he received late points if he was late on assignments and some holidays (like Memorial Day) they gave him the Monday off, but the classwork was doubled on Tuesday. The same thing happened for Good Friday and Easter Monday. He just didn’t get a break. It was unthinkable that they did this to the kids in the Enhanced program. We got talked into paying more for that program because our son wants to play college soccer and the classes needed to meet NCAA standards. I wouldn’t do that again, because there was a lot of added pressure and stress that was just unnecessary. He had a 4.0, but it came at quite a cost. Lots of frustration and tears.
We are not sure what curriculum we are doing next year for his 10th grade, but this video was helpful. Thanks for taking the time to help others. I should probably say that I was happy with the content and delivery of Liberty’s curriculum. Just not the math and rigidity off the Enhanced program.
