The boing boing is a Berimbau, a brasilian instrument. Sepultura and Soulfly used it a lot in songs like Ratamahatta and Umbabaraums. That Gojira song sounded “so Cavalera” to me when i listened it for the first time it made me smile. Also with the berimbau there’s a mouth harp. Great lesson, as always. Best from Barcelona.
I think it's actually a berimbau de boca, which is just the Brazilian name for the jaw harp. The original berimbau is very different in size, appearance and sound from the berimbau de boca.
Ben these breakdowns absolutely rule! Keep it up, recently subscribed and keep coming back anytime you post a new video. I also feel how this showcases how you don't have to be the most technical player to play some sick metal riffs \m/

Had to return to this post as those Gojira boys played last night in my hometown of Madison, WI. Aside from being blown away at how amazingly tight they are live, the light show was seizure inducing but OH so perfect for everything that they played. If you've never seen them live, I highly recommend it. Now to tune down my guitar and work on those gallups 🐎
I had been waiting for this since the song came out. Gimme dat boing boing noise. Btw, that instrument at the intro or outro _could be_ a jaw harp. I am not 100% but it does sound a lot like it.
Pretty sure that the instrument we hear doing the boing boing riff is a local instrument called berimbau. It's a pretty common instrument in Brazil, most commonly featured in capoeira.
That bend on the boing boing boing thingy is what Iommi did on Iron Man to make that whuaaaawwww sound. And those power chords in the chorus is freaking amaz- zazing!
I don't know what instrument that is, but I'm pretty sure one was used on Sepultura's Roots album. This song has so many sepultura vibes to it, I love it.
The instrument is called a Berimbau. It's a single string, like fishing line, or a long guitar string, stretched on a bow with a resonator gourd at one end, and the string is struck with a stick. It's used in Capoeria training, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berimbau
The intro instrument is called the berimbau: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berimbau One string percussive instrument of African origin, now in a lot of Brazilian stuff. Also traditionally used to set the rhythm in capoeira practice if you're into martial arts.
Hey! I have that folk instrument that makes the BOING BOING noise in the beginning LOL Gojira also used it on the outro of remembrance, I was so shocked when I first heard it. I've never met a single person that knows what the instrument is.
Sepultura use one of these boing boing instruments, a Berimbau, in their song Attitude... check out their 2 Meter Sessions video. But here there might be something else going on, like a jaw harp
It make sense that they use a neck bend and not a whammy bar because I remember that joe talked about his sig guitar model having a strong neck that allows him to use neck bends
Thanks for learning how to play Amazonia by Gojira!!! What other song by those French bois do you want to learn next?
Mouth of Kala maybe? 🤷♂️
I was pretty sure that the instrument they’re using is a mouth harp.
No thank you Uncle Ben!. How about where dragons dwell?

Best from Barcelona.
Gojira used those sounds all the way back on The Link.
Yeh, they definitely were aiming to mimic a berimbau there. Everyone got flashbacks to Sepultura's Roots as soon as Amazonia started playing :-)
@@thecameronator Yea, Sepultura is one of Joes favorite bands.
Wrong they used a jew harp (Guimbard) proof is in a little video where they thank’s Apple Music.
Francois Royer a “jew harp” or a “jaw harp”?
🤔
I love Gojira's weird noises. I don't even play guitar but I like seeing how they make them.
"Them French boys make the boing boing noise..." I'm dying laughing over here, couldn't have been put better! 😂
B O I N G B O I N G
That Godzilla groove is so in the pocket, I listened to that song on repeat more times than I care to admit.
I think is either a jaw harp, mixed with berimbau (Brazilian instrument).
I think it's actually a berimbau de boca, which is just the Brazilian name for the jaw harp. The original berimbau is very different in size, appearance and sound from the berimbau de boca.
I always called it the tooth breaker. I had one as a kid and it caused several trips to the dentist.
Came for the lesson, stayed for the BOING BOING.

that boing boing noise is why Amazonia is one of my favourite gojira songs
