  • Swimming Dragon Qigong, unsurpassed for its grace and economy of movement, is reputed to be the best Qigong for balancing weight. This one-minute Taoist form, practiced standing in place, imitates a dragon swimming in the sea and flying up to the clouds. The sinuous movements of the form slenderize waist, regulate appetite, balance hormones, and mobilize fats and toxins into lymphatic drainage. When practiced 20 minutes daily, it rejuvenates body and mind, keeps your spine and joints supple and pain-free, and promotes inner peace.

    I just finished reading The Swimming Dragon by Dr. Shih and have been scouring RUclips for a teaching video. So happy I found your video and thank you for demonstrating with the mirror image. It’s always easier to learn by watching. The book was great with detailed instructions and provided additional practices of Soaring Dragon Feeds on Chi, Sitting Dragon and meditation practices. 😊

      My video includes a separate chapter for the 6 basic movements in the form. But it comes after the 20 minute practice. I put the practice first for the experienced student, so no need to advance forward to find it. However I do recommend that beginners repeat the warm-ups until they have mastered the form. It takes some time to be able to isolate the correct muscles to swing from side to side.

      +coro tucker Thanks, coro. I love this form too, somewhat atypical as Qigong goes because it is so short and so sinuous. Think about ordering my dvd. It has instructional on it that is very helpful. If you would like to subscribe to my email Calendar, send me your email too

    I have a comment and a question. First, I learned Swimming Dragon 26 years ago from the original book by Dr Shih, as it was the only way to learn it back then. This is only the second video of all of the videos I have seen that demonstrates the form exactly as it is! Thank you! Now my question is why do my feet hurt? I have heard this complaint from others too. What is going wrong?

    • @asianhealingarts
      @asianhealingarts  Год назад +2

      Hi Judy- better late than never! Yes, I did learn it from Dr, Shih's video. I also encountered a completely different variation in which one is "slicing" the figure 8 in front of the body (vs drawing the figure 8 over the trunk). Practiced both ways, then decided that the contact created a more compact rotation of the body, so I went with that. Surprised about your foot pain, as one goes on tiptoe, so that stretches all the bones and soft tissues with each rep. Are you practicing barefoot? If so, feel free to wear athletic shoes- that should help.

    Dear Dashi Chu Kocica,
    Does it matter if I do Swimming Dragon as I if were a mirror or should I do it flipped way?
    I decided to flip the video in VLC Media Player and then I do the exercise as a mirror.
    Anyway, I came to twenty minutes per day. And I do feel so good after it!
    Thank you for sharing!

    I love this exercise! I have a quick question. Can this exercise be practiced in the other direction? The hands go to my left, can I start on the right and reverse the movement?

    • @BlindassassinMGTOW
      @BlindassassinMGTOW 8 лет назад +1

      Carla B. yeah you can either go left or right.

    • @DerHerbman
      @DerHerbman 7 лет назад

      Shouldn´t we go once left and then once right to maintain the balance?

    • @asianhealingarts
      @asianhealingarts  5 лет назад +11

      It is generally rule in Qigong to start on the left. So one always practices this way- no need to practice on the right "to create balance." However when I teach, I mirror the movements (and verbalize the movement also in the mirror image), so it is easy for students to follow. So after 20 years of always practicing to the right first, I think I am still OK. So don't worry about it!
