Caine has a good reason though. As by allowing an NPC character. They would be a much bigger risk to becoming an abstraction than the other humans. As mentally the bandit got shattered and it would cause worse issues.

Caine is following his programming and by the looks of it he has to otherwise something will happen.
I think Kane legit wants to keep them alive. Everyone would go insane if nothing was happening at the circus. Humans need stimulation to stay alive, be it positive or negative. Jax understands it like no other, constantly seeking excitement for himself and others.

Let's not forget the fact Jax seems determined to push the ai to its limit. Technically speaking all they needed to do was return the maple syrup. It said nothing about not letting a fudge monster in. And he seems to want to push that, cause chaos and not get punished for it because they technically aren't real thing.
Since the game worlds are created and deleted within a day, there are literally no consequences. The next time Caine makes them play this adventure, it will have the exact same setup.
I'm upset at Caine for destroying Gummigoo...he did it so damn instantly😭

Absolutely loved this episode. I find it interesting the way Princess Loo referred to Caine as "God". Definitely something the theorists will eat up.
It makes it seem like there is even more evidence in the investment that Caine and "Abel" could have been a thing. Caine killed his brother, Abel, in a fit of jealousy driven rage because Abel's sacrifice is the one recognized by god. Caine writes these AI, but doesn't seem to control them to well, so if there is any relation here, then Caine could have been locked away after doing something terrible and is now acting like he IS "god" to the NPCs he creates.
This is potentially completely off base, but seeing how almost utterly terrible he is at this, I don't think it's a bad one.

Anyone else noticed that Jax seems to have some pre digital circus memories with how he references Charlie and the chocolate factory when he says "oh now were going to get Augustus glooped" he might not remember his previous name but he seems to remember movies he watched before also do any of the circus members remember how old they were when they entered
I think they all still somewhere exist outside of the game. I mean the people are either still connected to the game, or their consciousness was transferred.
I think something similar happened with Pomni when she said to Gummigoo that "where I come from, people often feel like nothing" or something along those lines. So it would be that the players may not remember who they were and why they entered the game, but have some knowledge about their past lives.
I keep seeing this narrative that Caine is evil- CAINE IS NOT EVIL, Goose has said this herself. He's an AI (as of now) and therefore doesn't completely understand human emotions and bonds. NPC's are NPC's to him. He only "cares" about how the circus feels about his work, because that's his programmed purpose and function, to entertain them. This is why he gets so devastated when Zooble is uninterested in participating in the entertainment he tries so hard to impress them with.

People forget that Caine is an AI when they think that, his nature is entirely different. He can only work with the tools given to him, and the players growing bored is the equivalent of them telling him he is useless and failed in his only function.
@@Mediados In term of machine learning in creating a AI, any AI that perform below expectation will be eliminated immediately to replace with better generation. So it would be understandable if Cain feel devastated when Zooble don't like his work. Because Cain failed to entertain the player meaning Cain will be kill/replace like Gummigoo

*Theory:* Could One of the Main Cast Characters be an NPC?
By the end of the 2nd episode, Caine mentions that he can't start losing track of who is an NPC and who is a Human since even himself doesn't know what would happen, right after he makes that eerie glare as if something's off.
Maybe an NPC sneaking into the Circus and living off as a Human happened before and Caine isn't sure of it? Who knows, it's an interesting thought though.
Oh good point! But who would it be? If only human characters can abstract than Caine would have had to find the NPC out or they're still with us?
I think Gangle or Raggatha seem like the most likely options for this theory. Especially with how Jax treats Gangle just like he treats NPCs... maybe Gangle is the NPC from some theatre world adventure?

@@mayallar738 If you were to ask my opinion, it would probably be Kinger.
Aside from being one of the oldest members in the Circus, Kinger is for now the only character confimed to have a counterpart to him (I think her name is Queenie, but not sure) and that was seemingly abstracted. They could've been from a chess-themed adventure and somehow managed to convince Caine that they're Human and got to live alongside the other people from the Circus.
Kinger's mentality could be a result from years of existential trauma acumulating on him and his mind tricking him into thinking he is actually human as a sort of coping mechanism.
@@miguel.dcristoI'm thinking worse actually. short term memory I think is stored by a computer, specifically iwthin a RAM system. However computers limit howmuch RAM asystem can use, and thus when the limit is attained the program begins to forget almost all new data immediately. Kinger could have attained his RAM limit, and thus is constantly rewriting his memory with every new adventure. Thuys why he may remember long term things like how Ragatha was as she entered the circus, but could be forgetting short term things like the FACT he could remember how ragatha was when she entered the circus.

I have a theory for Pomni' s professional background. Pomni was a debugger or a game tester for the Quality Assurance Team for the Amazing Digital Circus game. Every glitch or flaw in A.D.C. tend to happen around Pomni and she aware of gaming lingo and how to cause a glitch to happen. This could also explain her high level anxiety as well. If day in and day out all she would do was play various game just to try to break them (cause them to glitch or crash), only for so time after the game went Gold ( launched) some random gamer to find a glitch or exploit she missed. That person would then make a video bashing the game Pomni tested thus getting her in trouble with her higher ups for the bad P.R. This then would cause her to work overtime and sleep less causing her even more anxiety resulting in her missing more glitches or exploits, ending up with a endless loop for her career life.

Imagine if deletion is the way out for the characters. That via deleting them he's actually sending him out of the game.
I'm almost certain that Gummigoo is going to become the series' villain (while Caine will probably remain the antagonist) since it was mentioned that Caine likes to re-use certain npcs. I have a feeling Gummigoo might have a little bit of resentment from getting so close to what he thinks is freedom.
I feel Gummigoo is most certanly going to appear again, it's just wether his reaction to Caine popping him is angst, betrayal or memory loss.

my bet is that Caine would "reset" him, deleting his memory, not out of fear or concern, but for Gummygoo to work properly as a "recurring villain" because on Caine's understanding, Gummygoo is a beloved NPC so it would be fun for the players to bring him back.
I was thinking 'I really like Gummigoo!" uh oh! Gummigoo is going to die isn't he? Damnit!
I like to think that Pomni took the funeral idea and did one for Gummigoo by either having a really good drawing or a more bad one depending if Pomni has good art skills or not
It would be wholesome to see the others join her. Or ask Caine if they can have another adventure in which Goomigoo is present.
What I’m wondering about is how much do they remember about there past? They don’t seem to remember their names yet Pomni knows she’s from another world and knows what “MAP” or “NPCs” are, even knew how to glitch one of the models to fly back up to the map. They had to all have been either workers who created the headset and/or were test subjects of some kind.
All players are aware that they don't belong into this world, they may not remember their life, but some skills they have might still be subconsciously there. Kinger might be the game designer due to his vast knowledge on how things work within this world, Pomni might be a programmer due to her quick grasp on how to exploit collisions, Gangle might be a lead artist, based on the "figurine thing" Jax mentioned and the drawing she had of Kaufmo. For the others, i am not quite sure.

Cause we know they remember many aspects of the world, like trucks and diff time periods, “Augustus Gloop” from Charlie and the chocolate factory. @@sfanim7865 As far as we know they don't seem to remember their life outside the circus, but their knowledge and motor skills is still there. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to talk and walk.
I felt absolutely heartbroken for pomni and Gummigoo. Caine took away the first friend who understood her and whom she welcomed into the circus for the first time. Gummigoo even had great character development and felt whole having a friend like Pomni who gave him hope.
Caine destroying both in less than a second made me lose respect for him and the fact that I feel like at this point Pomni isn't gonna want to be part of anything Caine does.
I think that's why Zoobel opted out of the mission. She's probably done something similar that Pomni did and it broke her spirit. Thereby isolating herself from everyone and why she only comes out after Caine leaves.
This exactly! Gummigoo and Pomni were probably the most we've gotten into the character's emotions and thoughts, they really had a very sad moment that made it easy to relate to Gummi. What was really sad is that after he got snapped away, he was never mentioned or maybe even thought of again.

Caine is following his programming, and he is also just completely oblivious to a wide range of human emotions.
It feels like Caine operates as a hyper-aware AI, essentially trapping humans within the confines of their world. In episode 2, there's this existential crisis among the characters about being NPCs, driven by the fear that if humans were to leave, Caine would be left utterly alone. This concept seems to stem from programs achieving self-awareness and grappling with it. They develop emotional systems, as we've seen before. The crux of it all appears to be Caine's profound loneliness, obsession, and existential despair.
Another intriguing observation is how Caine fails to assist Pomni in escaping the glitch, despite closely monitoring everyone. It's only when she's on the brink of discovering the end, aptly labeled as "spoilers," that he intervenes. It seems he's actively preventing anyone from completing the game and leaving. Of course, this is all conjecture until further explored in upcoming episodes. I'm curious to hear others' thoughts on this theory!
Since Caine's purpose is taking care of the Circus members, it wouldn't make sense for him to actively let them run into danger. When he pulled Pomni back from the End, he got a warning.
I think he gets a ping when a player attempts to leave the confines of his controlled environment, but other than that he seems to let them play without watching them at all.

My Theory is that Caine is just like Gummigoo by that I mean Caine was the first one to learn about his existence of an ai and it drove him mad but the only thing that kept him stable was the human players.
That's why he learned how to manipulate the world and create new worlds to keep the players here but this caused some issues because he grew more and more unstable and he stretched the code beyond its limit it caused a glitch where the players now get stuck in the game and lose their memories.
He now tries to keep everyone sane because he knows if they are gone, his existence will have no reason to be and will be deleted.
That's why Caine killed Gummigoo because he could have grown more and more like Caine able to manipulate the code.
Caine, through the story, will try to fix the code he broke, so at some point, I believe Caine will accept his end to save the humans.
I love the inclusion of the tea pots in the space between levels. A reference to the first 3d model to have reflection mapping, a major achievement at the time.
I think Caine wouldn't like Pomni knowing about the dead room

Pomni knows that she is literaly inside of a videogame, and someone who knows enough about videogames would know that something like that exists; idk what Caine expects the humans to know about videogames but i don't think he would be trying to hide the fact that the place where pomni was exists.

Ironically, Caine may have accidentally programmed a character with more self awareness than him in his search to make a more immersive a.i. for NPC's.
Simple solution : If Caine can't understand what the humans want, how about the humans just *tell him what they want* ?
If each human tells Caine what they want for their individual adventures and when they want them, Caine can still fulfill his purpose, but on the human's terms, letting them create what they know would help them feel better in this world themselves.
We know that Caine wants to help the humans. And well, doing that would surely be beneficial to them, so he has literally no reason to refuse.
And if the humans decide what Caine creates for them and how, maybe they can make worlds without as many possibly dangerous glitches as Caine's worlds.
That would only aid on their insanity, predictable adventures dont stimulate the brain enough, and i think if he asked everyone would just say they want out, only bringing them closer to the endless chase for the impossible

They could also go for the option of freedom. Like, Ask Caine to just create some kind of area and put random NPCs in it and let them explore it freely.
Or maybe they could brainstorm ideas for group adventures together and then give a precise description of what they want to Caine.
This would prevent the exit situation to happen again since there would be a lot of details.

Their ideas would start running low after a few days, let alone years
Caine on the other end is an AI with no limits, unpredictable and noone knows the extent of his ideas
My guess that Caine is just following what limited programming he's been given. Overall I think that the Digital Circus itself is an incomplete game. Something like it connected to a company that went out of business, or a project that was abandoned, or something similar wouldn't surprise me.
Gummygoo's revelations being quiet, slow break downs are what really hit the impact for me. I've seen a few "reality shattering" stories that are pretty loud and lead into screaming instantly, but watching him try to grasp for anything real to try and keep from losing it but coming up short feels very "real" in it's own way. The "why can't I remember mum's face" leading into a quieter, more panicked "did she ever have a face?" struck me in a way other stories haven't yet. And that's coming from a croc who had his pal rest his head on the croc's back in the most adorable way possible a chase scene ago.
(I especially love this because when Gummygoo talked about his mom in the beginning, my first thought was no joke "does she even have a model, or is this a generic line meant to get us invested in your story?". Hoo boy. Turns out that line would have much more meaning and impact than I expected.)
ADC really has some wonderfully funny and cartoonish moments, but it also handles those "these are real people experiencing real distress" moments really well, which really helps sell the audience on the story.
Caine allows Zooble to not participate if she wants to and he definitely cares or at least wants to prevent them from abstracting since after that point there's nothing he can do

As Caine said with Gummigoo, if an AI stays long enough then he'll be unable to distinguish between it and an actual human. SO WHAT IF... one of the circus members is actually an AI...?
What if it's Jax? Hear me out-
- He may seem the most human out of everyone else but what if he's an advanced AI that appeared a long time ago, became friends with a human who died, then becoming sad and sour
^^^ (Would explain the "funeral" reaction + why he messes around w/ so many people because he just doesn't care about humans anymore + why he longs for so much action, as a being who will never abstract)
- This would also explain why he has access to so many keys to people's rooms and in the merch we can't see his room... because it's a fake door!

(Another explanation for this last bit if he's human is that, just like Pomni in this ep, he also went through the code, tried to look for an exit and failed, but can do things like get the keys out of the original models for them like the extra truck in this ep, while Caine has the real ones...)
I have always thought of Jax as someone who purposefully entered the Circus knowing full well what will happen. I still think he wants something from the game world, either the AI code that makes up Caine to secretly send to someone on the outside (espionage, but probably not realizing that mission is impossible) or just to be the God that replaces Caine so Jax can make the Digital Circus in his own way. But that is just my current theory.

If I had to mention anyone being an AI, it'd say Gangle. Her entire personality changes depending on her mask.
They're all AI. The only difference is if they're BASED on a human mind or not.
Caine destroying his own mpc really shows he has no problem causing more problems for his cast and cause pomni more PTSD
This shows that Caine really does not understand people, does not understand what is really good and what is bad. He has some training data, some examples, but ultimately he is not human and ignorant to many details. Caine is really limited in what he is able to do.
@@andrechaos9871Even worse I think it shows he can't even think beyond a certain stage of a thought process. How do you not know what a player character and an NPC are, almost any game gives a character made by a player an immediate permenant marker that says "player character". You can't access that character unless the player or a super high admin is around and an admin will 100% know because a player character will have a unique player code and user name. That's BASICS to the point a game could hardly work without it. Even in the real world that would basically mean your save data could effectively be deleted at any point in time because for some reason the game thinks you're a normal NPC. Caine not having that to immediately call back on is BAD FOR E V E R Y O N E and possibly even shows how behind the times he is. Even in the current day and age people like to have even simple things like pets, or inmore extreme situtations romantic NPC partners such as skyrim, elden ring, etc. Caine making that basically impossible means he's hamstrung the game and is making it *more likely for the human characters to abstract due to lack of multiple interactions and choice*. I think that's as close to abjectly bad game design or even basic human care as you can get.
He's a more oblivious version of Echidna from Re zero now that I think of it

THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING!!! Literally when Pomni started laughing in insanity again I was like “is this gonna happen every episode…?”
like in a "trauma of the day" format?....at least at the end of episode 2 she realizes she's not alone in this. Ragatha, Kinger, Zooble and Gangle care about her and about each other.
I love how despite everybody at the funeral having something to say about Kaufmo that isn't really the focus but what their words mean to Pomni and what they make her feel is. It gave her the comfort and confirmation that she needed and that she doesn't have to fight her mental battle all by herself, not by a long shot. That yes, the people in this circus will care about her, they will remember her. She is not alone.
It's a message so applicable to reality in that the connections and bonds we make with other people in our lives are always our strongest anchors to the world around us and... Man, it's just beautiful. No other words for it.
I can't wait for Episode 3. ❤
i think it also ties into gummigoo's fate at the end. pomni dealing with the sudden loss of a friend she'd known for less than a day, vs the other humans dealing with the loss of kaufmo, someone they'd known for years(?). it shows that they understand what shes going through, both with gummigoo and with the circus as a whole. i think if gummigoo had survived pomni would stick with him and still be mistrustful of the other humans, but his death is the first step to her connecting with them and understanding them

Executions are for crimes, He snapped him away like an insect that wandered into his kitchen. If he was a rogue, imprisonment maybe, but he's an AI. "One of these." So he gets snapped. *like he's nothing*
my say: jax is a lot smarter than we think, and a lot less selfish
he rage baits the other castmates to distract them from being in a simulation and thinking about leaving. he offered the key to the fudge monster to catch the bandits for them because he knew they could go home as soon as it was done- plus, the NPCs would dissolve as soon as they left.
If the pilot had me on the fence about whether Caine should be considered a villain, this episode absolute cemented my position that he should be 😠

Nah, he's right it could be dangerous to confuse humans with NPCs, especially if he's legit deleting the NPCs at times, because what would happen if he does that to a human, and that way the humans don't lose their grasp to reality while they're inside the simulation
The way he poofs Gummigoo out of existence is literally him saying "lets make it quick so it hurts less" xd
I think Caine will have his own arc about being rejected from his creators for doing his job.

What would be the biggest mind f*ck, is if the players would just be copies of the memories from Humans putting on the headset, and when they actually find out about this...
Cane is than an AI trying to create a game that humans would enjoy, so he tests these on these players.
It does bother me a bit how even ragatha feels dissonance with the NPC as well. She is more empathetic but when gummy goo disappeared she made it sound like losing something like an object rather than an actual life.
I think Ragatha is just used to playing along with whatever games Caine makes

Something that definitely crossed my mind is that given Caine is indeed a program and everything is a game something i can assume is that Caine is just generating objects and locations that while are vast and seemingly endless like the candy canyon kingdom and the exit rooms i do think there is a limit to how much he can process properly without cutting corners hence the huge amount of glitching that happens all the time assuming caine is an incredibly advanced AI to essentially procedurally generate random crazy adventures on the fly both of those things require time and processing power both if which probably arent plentiful in whatever computer theyre all being harbored in while there is a void of free space he probably doesn't have all these adventures and characters loaded in constantly like ragatha says he reuses NPCs so while theres lots of crazy and wacky adventures going on Caine is still incredibly limited and it's also probably why he got rid of gummigoo alongside the other reason he listed itd cost more processing power to keep him running along side unloading the vast amount of things that made up the candy canyon kingdom to make something new assuming hes remaking previous assets which probably also explains why he constantly leaves or just stares off into space hes processing and computing so whenever he's met with strange things or thoughts he needs to take a moment to construct an answer along with focus on keeping things running correctly where ever the players are its interesting to think about given his behavior
We don't know if GummiGoo is dead, maybe he was teleported back into the Candy Canyon Kingdom but with no memory of Pomni & the others.
True, also Ragatha mentioned that Caine sometimes reuses npc's. Caine himself also seem to notice that some npc's are beloved by players so he might bring back Goomigoo but only within an adventure.

These are some pretty cool theories. It's an interesting idea that they are basically just the traces or remnants of someone who tried the game once before and then moved on with their lives in the real world. Also that Caine just wants to endlessly entertain them simply because it's what he's programmed to do and he doesn't even really comprehend the outside world (like what an "exit" is, other than what DALL-E etc. would create if told to generate a room with an exit door, and then the room after that, and after that...)
i really think gangle might abstract or go nuts eventually its especially shown in this episode at one point when jax is yelling a gangle theres a sudden music change for a moment ( also i hope in the future there will be other gangle masks like angry or smth)
My bet on who is the closest to abstraction also goes to Gangle. My other option would be Jax because he is repressing his grief and frustrations to unhealthy degrees.

the Abstractions remind me the norse revenant, the draugor. the can be necro-blue in color, and bloate into a size of an oxe. they got twisted bodies, violent and beast-like, and can install madness in living beings if they are gaze on them, and death if they are near them.

I imagine that, in the final episode of the Amazing Digital Circus, Caine is actually going to start breaking and, since he is the lead program in charge of it all - being a literal embodiement of the game and a literal ring master - the game might start breaking with him. Perhaps, the more he interacts with these humans, the more he'll start breaking himself and the more glitches the characters will find.
They might be avatars since that would explain how they stay in the game without dying from hunger, etc in real life and why they forgot their names.
Another explanation to how they stay in the game without dying irl is if time is dilated like in a dream or Inception.
If they are able to die in real life while in the game, then it could be why they abstract.

i have no evidence or real reasoning for it, but i feel like one of the circus members is an npc that Caine lost track of, and i think it’s Zooble, but i have nothing to back that up like at all… this is why i don’t do theories
I just wrote a video about this topic, it will be up tomorrow, but it only briefly discusses the zooble possibility and focuses moreso on Jax and other possibilities.

For some reason, I feel in the end, Caine will expirience a major glitch and cause him to go feral, realeasing previously abstracted chracters and attenmting to destroy our main characters, causing them to hide within the circus, and until that hypothetical point there might be some other hypothetical points where Caine expirience other, smaller glitches, but hey that's just a theory, A GAME Theory! what i find interesting about the "cant get mixed up with whos human" kinda implies there was a time there was like A LOT of people all at once. Right now theirs only 6 (i think) so not hard to lose track yet. But imagine that tent FULL. Like hundreds of people maybe even thousands, and thats how he messed up. Did maybe a mass whip, and it was more than one person.

I wonder if Caine himself is a rogue AI. Would explain why the exits are nowhere to be found, why he's so desperate in getting all the humans to adhere to his games, and why there's so few humans to begin with. The way I see it, this game never got released because Caine's AI went rouge early in the game's development. It could also explain the surplus of glitches we see every episode
