I'm Italian but I think that the French national anthem is the most beautiful out of all You can clearly understand what they did and how they lived...so much powerful. I love it.
I had to hear the italian anthem every grand prix weekend from 2000 to 2004 because of Schumacher driving a Ferrari. There was not many marseillaise in the meantime.
@Dam Thephong so did America, and Russia colossally got fcked by Finnland. All nations loose wars in which they underestimate their opponents on their homelands. People don’t like being colonized, don’t underestimate their will if they are cornered.
@@damthephong3811 Vietnam was backed up by CHina, war was more a victory on the field but France was tired of war. When you loose 75000 soldiers and kill more than 300000 while being outnumbered, its arguably a loose on the battlefield, but it was from political reason.
The Marseillaise was composed during the French Revolution, which was very bloody. It was a song for the French people, to be strong and to rise for their liberty, against all the threats inside and outside the country. It's really patriotic, maybe violent, but for French people, it's a way to remember what was the price of the democracy and to live in freedom and solidarity. And I think it's really more interesting than an anthem to the glory of a queen...
+barnakle6331 I do believe you believe too many ideals... associating freedom and solidarity with the revolutionary regime is definitely an altar to irony.
+barnakle6331 actually it wasn't composed for the revolution (in some way during it, but THE ffrench revolution doesn't exist it last almost a century of troubled political situation, ocsilating between a republic and an empire) but it is a song that soldier sang while walking to the front, when french declare the war to austrich (I dont know if It is the rigth way to spell the name of that country), and if I listen well to my history class, the french army was a rvolutionaire, and austrich didnt want france to became a republic. Anyway I am on of those who think that it should be replaced by "le chant des partisants" composed during WW2 to symbolise the resistance.
Yes, I agree with all of that (even le chant des partisants, a beautiful and also violent song ;) ) but for me, the war against Austria (and not austrich :P ) is a part of the Revolution, even if it's not a conflict inside the country, but because it was about defending ideals of the revolution against the threat of the european monarchies.
barnakle6331 the threat was actually into french borders... think about how many french citizens would still be alive if the european monarchies had won and thwarted Robespierre and the others ?
Yes, and what? Nobody tells that a revolution is a easy thing... Yes, the ideals of the revolution was great, and yes, the revolution hadn't happen well... But I don't think it questions the meaning of the Marseillaise.
I've been looking for the "rebellious Scot" lyrics everywhere on RUclips but couldn't find it,. if you can then tell me which RUclipsr it's from thanks
The verse in question was written in at round 1745 and goes as thus: Lord, grant that Marshal Wade, May by thy mighty aid, Victory bring. May he sedition hush, and like a torrent rush, Rebellious Scots to crush, God save the King.
It's almost as if that anthem was written at a time when France had gotten rid of their King and *all the other superpowerful European Kings were simultaneously triggered and hastily sending their armies to crush France*
I will explain why the French national anthem is so violent. It was written during the French Revolution for the army of the Rhine. The French Revolution was the bloodiest episode in the history of France. The King of France, Louis XVI, helped the Americans during the Independance War. (he did just to annoy the English, by the way). But later, because of that, a crisis set in France: No more money! The French people was hungry. In July 1789, the people of Paris went to the Bastille for having weapons, but the prison director refused. So the Parisians cut off his head (trolololo). The French revolted against the King. Finally, a constitutional monarchy was established. But later, the King ran away but was captured. In 1792 the king was guillotined. The war stopped in 1815 after the fall of Napoleon. It was very bloody, thousands of people were guillotined. On each square of every French town, there was a guillotine. The National Anthem comes from that time, that's why it is so violent. By the way, the French do not wear berets since 150 years.
+Vicky Guillet you quote the fall of Napoleon I in 1815, but cleverly hide the fact that it was for the return of both Louis XVI's younger brothers upon the throne...
Not exactly. When king Louis was sick, they compesed the following piece: Grand dieu sauve le roi, which means "Grand God save the king" it only said about Loui being victorious, and the Brits took the song, changed the lyrics a bit, and then 15 more countries took that song. Including: Prussia Russia Greece The Kingdom of Saxony Norway Iceland and many other nations
OK. Do not think to I'm talking that the French people are bad, but a thousands of people who hadn't any connection with Revolution or with Monarchy were killed in various ways(guillotine, drowning, firing squad...).But it still says, this Revolution devoured its own children and drank their blood, like a vampire
If you want the most peaceful, neighbour loving anthem in Europe. Listen to the lyrics of the Slovenian one. It's basically '' let's just drink some wine together. Oh and call the neighbours in as well. Yeah I know they were dicks to us, but it's over now. Let's celebrate! ''
+icepops25 Yup. And Mexico's is pretty brutal, too. Less brutal than France, but still a song to get the people riled up. It goes a little something like "Mexicans, do you hear the cry of war..." and then something about the sound of a cannon. La Marseillaise is pretty hardcore.
During the French Revolution, the whole Europe was attacking France on its borders) Prussia, England, Spain, Austria, Italy, etc) And La Marseillaise was written to motivate the french troops to protect their land. So if you’re European (not French) criticizing those lyrics, just imagine that those lyrics were written against YOU (your ancesters actually) Indeed, Bonapart understood well those lyrics and spread the blood overseas
"Liberté, Liberté chérie, combats avec tes défenseurs !" "Freedom, beloved Freedom, fight along with your defenders." Most people forge there is one of the most beautiful verses ever in this anthem.
+Nikolai Chekovsky when the Marseillaise called the People to arms, it was for a higher purpose. The Marseillaise also recognizes that the fight to secure our rights as citizens, is an ongoing process. Gainsbourg recited less well known verses, and identified this /again as a multi-generational struggle Serge kicked off a controversy. "Aux armes... et cetera" Citizens can grasp the prize and speed off to honorable service; I reserve the right to weigh in as to what service or type might be honorable.
+Nikolai Chekovsky Few French citizens know it as anything other than an abstraction. The Brits also listen to 'God Save the Queen', but never quite integrate those obscure bits about confounding the enemy. I was disappointed when 'Waltzing Mathilda' was rejected as Australia's elected national anthem.

La Marseillaise is not simply a national anthem. La Marseillaise is a hymn to liberty, to democracy, to the people's struggle against any tyranny. It's is the epitome of patriotism as a term. Hence it is everyone's anthem as well. Especially of peoples struggling still.

after he put the lyric cards down: "To arms, citizens! Form your battalions! Let's march (let's march) Let's march (let's march)! Let the impure blood soak our fields!"
yes. And this part is also a 2nd way to read the text. apart from the tumult of ther period, those who went to war were mostly peasants anxious of what would happen to their fields (ie their mean of living and also their family). The impure blood is the one of the lower society class dying for the game of the powerful one... Hasn't change a bit since then.

The Mexican National Anthem is quite violent as well, especially the second and third verse. "War, war without truce against who would attempt to blemish the honor of the fatherland! War, war! The patriotic banners saturate in waves of blood. War, war! On the mount, in the vale The terrifying cannon thunder and the echoes nobly resound to the cries of union! liberty! Fatherland, before your children become unarmed Beneath the yoke their necks in sway, May your countryside be watered with blood, On blood their feet trample. And may your temples, palaces and towers crumble in horrid crash, and their ruins exist saying: The fatherland was made of one thousand heroes here."
A Mexican stand-up comedian referred to it as a "baroque narcocorrido" cause of all the explosions and blood references and he was pretty spot-on tbh 😂
Brady Myers No, everybody jokes at you, because you're obviously not à fighter. If you were a fighter you should know that sometimes you can loose. And then start the resistance against the tyranic invaders. Every nation loose wars, even yours. Think before you write !! weak guy.
Because I am a nerd, I have to interrupt with the reason for this song! The anthem was written during the French Revolution, the most violent and most iconic uprising probably in all of European history. The three colors of the French flag have to do with the colors the revolutionaries wore in protest of the monarchy, and the lyrics themselves were meant to inspire the common people to fight.
Question de territoire...
No it wasn't wtf it was written as a poem from Francis Scott Key from Fredrick, Maryland, USA for the bombardment of harbor in US win in Britain fight in Baltimore 1812
I know our natinal anthem can seem very violent, but you have to know this has been written during war campaigns to fight an invader and then later has been use for french revolution, knowing the backgrounds of our country i appreciate this anthem : ) Because it means our nation and country is the dearest to our heart and that we will fight for our values. I think it's always relevant now espacially after the attack on Charlie Hebdo.
Cela ne me convainc guère.
this anthem represents the sacrifice made by the french people to achieve the democracy and the freedom they have right now !! It's significant and means a lot specially for those whose grandparents died so the next french citizens may live in prospertiy and diginity !

There were 53 major conflicts in Europe. France has been a belligerent in 49 of them, and the United Kingdom in 43. Among the 185 battles that France has delivered over the last 800 years, her armies will have won 132 of them, and will have lost 43, leaving only 10 undecided battles, giving the French military the record of victories in Europe. The white flag is far away for the French :)
Oh but I see you haven't seen the Mexican one either, which I'm not sure if it is as bad, but still. This is the chorus "Mexicans on a war cry, ready the iron and the mounts, and may the innards of the earth tremble, at the resonant bellow of the cannon", then I wasn't sure what the worst verse was but I chose " Before, mother land, that your children submit under the yoke, may your countrysides be showered with blood, over blood may their feet be stamped. And your temples, palaces and towers be demolished with a horrid racket, and your ruins remain, saying: Of a thousand heroes this mother land was". Tho' it is said that we took a few tips from the French when the Independence movement was made so, maybe this was another example ;)
+Meghan Hirsh Those lyrics are from "My Country 'Tis of Thee" which is a different patriotic American song, not the officially designated national anthem. Yes, both songs have the same melody/tune with different lyrics.
+Leslie Djokovic Actually a German immigrant wrote My country Tis of Thee, also known as America; he was inspired by a German patriotic song that used the same melody as God save the Queen/ King in 1831 while he was attending college in the United States, it took him a half an hour to come up with an English version of the German version of the song and tailor it to be about America. At least that's what I heard. He did it to honor he new homeland because he loved the country so much. My country tis of thee Sweet land of liberty Of thee I sing Land where my fathers died Land of the pilgrim's pride From every mountain side Let freedom ring My native country, thee Land of the noble free Thy name I love I love thy rocks and rills Thy woods and templed hills My heart with rapture fills Like that above Let music swell the breeze And ring from all the trees Sweet freedom's song Let mortal tongues awake Let all that breathe partake Let rocks their silence break The sound prolong Our Father God to, Thee Author of liberty To Thee I sing My country 'tis of Thee Sweet land of liberty For all eternity Let freedom ring

germany arose from blood. the anthem is quite peaceful though. the beginning words einigkeit und recht und freiheit (unity, in the sense of consensus, justice and liberty)are, as far as i know, inspired by the french Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité. and while i dislike so much about french people, i admire their guts to stand up when, for example companies think they can treat people like cattle. they have lost a lot of that over the years though. and i love how rance and germany, fierce mutual hatred over centuries, are more than allies today politically. makes me happy and sometimes in the world today, we should lean back and appreciate things like the french-german unity. please don't take it too hard that we focus on netherlands when it comes to football. cheers brothers.
La Révolution Française was bloody? What do you mean? Having the entire Western Europe united against a single country? 40 000 executions by decapitation?

My english is not as good as I wish, but here is a little translation of the main part of our national anthem : Arise, children of the Fatherland The day of glory has arrived! Against us/protect us from tyranny, The bloody standard is raised! The bloody standard is raised! Do you here in countrysides Roaring those ferocious soldiers? They come to your very arms To slaughter (cut the throat) your wives, your sons! To arms, citizens! Form your batalions! Let's march, let's march! May an impure blood Water our fields! Sacred love of the Fatherland, Guide, support, our vengeful arms! Liberty, beloved liberty, fight alongside your defenders! Fight alongside your defenders! Under our flags, may the victory Run up yo your males accents. (virile signs) May your expiring ennemies See your triumph and our glory To arms, citizens! Form your batalions! Let's march! Let's march! May an impure blood Water our fields!
HiImKirrian it kinda is in fact, it's like a motivation song for people to free themselve from tyranny, so of course it's violent but it's also full of hope !
HiImKirrian It's about rising against tyranny, they didn't put the last part with the true message, saying that the people should rise against tyranny, so it is filled with hope and joyful after all !
HiImKirrian It's both violent and peaceful, sad and happy. It's the roaring voice of the French people after years of being crushed down by the fucking monarchy and religion. It's the Soul of the Revolution. We are going to suffer and die again, but this time, for a good reason. As +liankyquette said, you have to listen to the whole song: Arise children of the fatherland The day of glory has arrived Against us tyranny's Bloody standard is raised Listen to the sound in the fields The howling of these fearsome soldiers They are coming into our midst To cut the throats of your sons and consorts To arms citizens Form your battalions March, march Let impure blood Water our furrows What do they want this horde of slaves Of traitors and conspiratorial kings? For whom these vile chains These long-prepared irons? Frenchmen, for us, ah! What outrage What methods must be taken? It is us they dare plan To return to the old slavery! What! These foreign cohorts! They would make laws in our courts! What! These mercenary phalanxes Would cut down our warrior sons Good Lord! By chained hands Our brow would yield under the yoke The vile despots would have themselves be The masters of destiny Tremble, tyrants and traitors The shame of all good men Tremble! Your parricidal schemes Will receive their just reward Against you we are all soldiers If they fall, our young heros France will bear new ones Ready to join the fight against you Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors Bear or hold back your blows Spare these sad victims That they regret taking up arms against us But not these bloody despots These accomplices of Bouillé All these tigers who pitilessly Ripped out their mothers' wombs We too shall enlist When our elders' time has come To add to the list of deeds Inscribed upon their tombs We are much less jealous of surviving them Than of sharing their coffins We shall have the sublime pride Of avenging or joining them Drive on sacred patriotism Support our avenging arms Liberty, cherished liberty Join the struggle with your defenders Under our flags, let victory Hurry to your manly tone So that in death your enemies See your triumph and our glory!
La Marseillais was first written to inspire soldiers, you shouldn't have skipped the part right after you dropped the card where it says "To arms citizens! for your batolions! March! March!"
It might be violent, but it is one of the most emotionally provoking anthems in the world. I'm an American and I feel the out anthem is the best but I can't listen to the French anthem without getting very emotional.
We are the strongest nation on earth, builded on the dead bodys of thousands of french people. We crushed a monarchy and we made a European empire. And when a king came back on the french throne, we fucking revolted once again. It was in 1830 during the "Trois Glorieuses" on July 28, 29 and 30. And then, the french people established a new republic !... no I'm kidding, we've putted another king and we called his reign the "Monarchie de Juillet" (monarchy of July)... but when this king abdicated, we made the second republic ! And we elected Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte... the grandnephew of Napoleon himself. And guess what ? After 4 years as president, he became Emperor ! Napoleon III ! So, the France is truly since 1870 when the Prussian defeated Napoleon III and setted up the 3rd republic. So, this song represents well our 19th Century !
it's a very old song. In this original context , the Marseillaise is a revolutionary war song , a hymn to freedom , a patriotic call for a general mobilization and an exhortation to fight against tyranny and foreign invasion . France had returned to war against Austria. It was 224 years ago . And we are proud of our anthem , we create the human right and overturned one of the oldest and tyrannical absolute monarchy. From large revolution that are inspired by the French Revolution. We supported the creation of the USA and allowed to gain its independence. Then be judged by people in the comments who still have kings and nobles with the privileges it's funny.
It is funny. One of the Rothschilds bought himself a title of nobility, even though these do not exist in Law. In the matter of titles of nobility: these essentially are trademarks. France has the best ratio of military victories in the world. There have been 53 major conflicts in Europe. France was a belligerent in 49 of them, and the United Kingdom in 43. Among the 185 battles France has fought over the past 800 years, its armies will have won 132 of them, and lost 43, leaving only 10 battles undecided Giving the French military the record of victories in Europe, and therefore in the world. France is the nation that has participated in the greatest number of wars and battles in the entire history of humanity. - Over the past 800 years France has fought more than 200 years against England, more than 150 years against the Germanic nations, more than 190 years against the Spaniards/Portuguese, and against many other nations still. Quite often these wars were fought against France, which was numerically inferior to coalitions of several nations aimed at destroying it. France, a warrior nation par excellence, the strategies deployed by its generals are still being studied today, particularly Napoleon Bonaparte's campaigns. France is also the nation that colonized England in 1066, a country that had been Frenchized for centuries to the point that 50% of English words are of French origin. It is the eldest daughter nation of the church, because the first barbarian (German) king of Europe to have converted is none other than Clovis I, King of the Franks, so it is the protector of Christianity, even within its national borders one feels its destiny. The one that dismantled the 900-year-old Holy Roman Empire. Allowing Germany to be born 65 years later. The one that allowed the independence of the USA by fighting in America against the British. The land of the "Dynasties", many European kings have French origins. - Under Saint-Louis, France is the richest and most populous country in Europe as well as the most intellectually and artistically developed, thus influencing all of Europe. - The Amerindians nicknamed the King of France, the Grand onontio "the greatest mountain on earth" at the end of the Seven Years' War, overwhelmed by the French defeat and then cast their fate into the hands of the English who would later exterminate them. The one that dominated Europe for several centuries, making its royal court the most frequented and appreciated by the kings of Europe. The country of humanism and human rights; and the first modern European democracy. But France is something else: - France is the second nation in the world to have made the most inventions and discoveries. - It was the 2nd largest colonial empire in the world, extending over all continents and oceans. - It has the 2nd largest maritime space in the world behind the USA, and could legitimize certain areas, thus classifying it as the world's number 1 maritime possession throughout the world. - It is the largest nation in the European Union in terms of area. - Europe's leading agricultural power and 4th in the world. - 4th largest military power in the world and 1st largest in Europe. - 5th largest economy in the world. - Permanent member of the UN alongside the U.S.A, Russia, China, and England. - 2nd largest industrial and commercial power in Europe. France is also the 3rd country in the world to have manufactured the atomic bomb. France is also a space power, the third nation to conquer space, the largest space budget of the European agency. France is also its famous gastronomy throughout the world. France is also the first nation in terms of Art. But it is also the Francophonie: French is the second language taught in the world. The Francophonie brings together 49 countries around the world in a permanent council of the Francophonie, which meets every two years. - French is today the 5th most spoken language in the world with 274 million speakers - French is the 3rd business language in the world - French is the 4th language of the Internet.
Based on my understanding of world's history, the song was written based on the French Revolution. Which to my knowledge is very violent and bloody, that's why the lyrics is quite gruesome. As a Vietnamese myself, the national anthem of my country was also based on the war, and there's one particular part in the song where it goes : "Đường hành quân xây xác quân thù" which translate LITERALLY into " The road we march BLEND/BUILD the bodies of our enemies" ( The translation might not be correct word by word, but the meaning is still pretty much exactly the same). So the two capitalized words in the lyrics above, even if you choose the former or the later, it's still very similar.... GORY....
How to water your farmlands: Everyone: use rain or river water French anthem: WE MARCH RIGHT TO THE SLAUGHTER AND OUR FIELDS WILL LITERALLY DRINK THE RIVERS OF OUR BLOOD.
I say france deserves these amazing lyrics and uplifting song. It always reminds me of the French Revolution days, and if you play EU4, you know revolutionary late game france is OP and unbeatable if not taken out early
When he said that the word "compagne" meant friends, I lost all respect for him XD It's the feminine version of companion, which is another way of saying wife (or wives if it's plural like in the song) Who doesn't know what the word for friend is in french? Amis? Anyone? Ugh... Also, 1:15 is translated incorrectly
+DAH14IA It was unrecognized because the USA threatened to go to war with any country that recognized it. Basically the same with what Russia is doing in the Ukraine now.
+KyleBuschPackFan I just read the lyrics (and heard it for myself), and Himno Nacional Mexicano is quite violent.... I know it was written about a war, but still! I still consider Italy's the most violent. (This video omits that it repeatedly goes "Siam pronti alla morte/we are ready to die.")

France was being invaded by 7 countries, all while trying to safeguard their revolution from domestic monarchists, when this song was written.

Yes, I agree with all of that (even le chant des partisants, a beautiful and also violent song ;) ) but for me, the war against Austria (and not austrich :P ) is a part of the Revolution, even if it's not a conflict inside the country, but because it was about defending ideals of the revolution against the threat of the european monarchies.
barnakle6331
the threat was actually into french borders... think about how many french citizens would still be alive if the european monarchies had won and thwarted Robespierre and the others ?
Yes, and what? Nobody tells that a revolution is a easy thing... Yes, the ideals of the revolution was great, and yes, the revolution hadn't happen well... But I don't think it questions the meaning of the Marseillaise.
Mind you, our national anthem used to have a verse about crushing rebellious Scots, which is no longer sung for obvious reasons.
I've been looking for the "rebellious Scot" lyrics everywhere on RUclips but couldn't find it,. if you can then tell me which RUclipsr it's from thanks
The verse in question was written in at round 1745 and goes as thus:
Lord, grant that Marshal Wade,
May by thy mighty aid,
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
and like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush,
God save the King.

Very thank you Stef The Def ^^

Brutal and beauty are not mutually exclusive
During the French Revolution, the whole Europe was attacking France on its borders) Prussia, England, Spain, Austria, Italy, etc)
And La Marseillaise was written to motivate the french troops to protect their land.

yes. And this part is also a 2nd way to read the text. apart from the tumult of ther period, those who went to war were mostly peasants anxious of what would happen to their fields (ie their mean of living and also their family).

Rassemblons-nous en une cohorte ;
Nous sommes prêts à mourir
L'Italie nous appelle.
Des Alpes à la Sicile
N'importe où il est battu

A du cour, a de la poigne ;

Paige Ward You don't have to be a nerd, it's fairly common world knowledge.

our American anthem is just one question asking if our flag is still flying after a bombardment.
And some of its performances over the past few years have been the worst of any song in history.
Little known fact, the U.S. national anthem was written by a Brit.
It was written during the Battle of 1812 AGAINST the British so I don't think it was written by a British
Oh. I suck in french class.
luina78 Je suis allé voir ces analyses. Cela ne me convainc guère.

Isn't the song played for the Britain segment also used as a patriotic American song? Instead of "God save the Queen" we say "let freedom ring".
My country tis of thee
Sweet land of liberty
Of thee I sing
Land where my fathers died
Land of the pilgrim's pride
From every mountain side
Let freedom ring
My native country, thee
Land of the noble free
Thy name I love
I love thy rocks and rills
Thy woods and templed hills
My heart with rapture fills
Like that above
Let music swell the breeze
And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom's song
Let mortal tongues awake
Let all that breathe partake
Let rocks their silence break
The sound prolong
Our Father God to, Thee
Author of liberty
To Thee I sing
My country 'tis of Thee
Sweet land of liberty
For all eternity
Let freedom ring

meh it's because the Révolution was bloody
germany arose from blood. the anthem is quite peaceful though. the beginning words einigkeit und recht und freiheit (unity, in the sense of consensus, justice and liberty)are, as far as i know, inspired by the french Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité. and while i dislike so much about french people, i admire their guts to stand up when, for example companies think they can treat people like cattle. they have lost a lot of that over the years though. and i love how rance and germany, fierce mutual hatred over centuries, are more than allies today politically. makes me happy and sometimes in the world today, we should lean back and appreciate things like the french-german unity. please don't take it too hard that we focus on netherlands when it comes to football. cheers brothers.

Arise, children of the Fatherland
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us/protect us from tyranny,
The bloody standard is raised!
The bloody standard is raised!
Do you here in countrysides
Roaring those ferocious soldiers?
They come to your very arms
To slaughter (cut the throat) your wives, your sons!
To arms, citizens! Form your batalions!
Let's march, let's march!
May an impure blood
Water our fields!
Sacred love of the Fatherland,
Guide, support, our vengeful arms!
Liberty, beloved liberty, fight alongside your defenders!
Fight alongside your defenders!
Under our flags, may the victory
Run up yo your males accents. (virile signs)
May your expiring ennemies
See your triumph and our glory
To arms, citizens!
Form your batalions!
Let's march! Let's march!
May an impure blood
Water our fields!
Respect to France from Italy 🇮🇹
but it sounded so happy at the start :'(
HiImKirrian it kinda is in fact, it's like a motivation song for people to free themselve from tyranny, so of course it's violent but it's also full of hope !
As +liankyquette said, you have to listen to the whole song:
Arise children of the fatherland
The day of glory has arrived
Against us tyranny's
Bloody standard is raised
Listen to the sound in the fields
The howling of these fearsome soldiers
They are coming into our midst
To cut the throats of your sons and consorts
To arms citizens Form your battalions
March, march
Let impure blood
Water our furrows
What do they want this horde of slaves
Of traitors and conspiratorial kings?
For whom these vile chains
These long-prepared irons?
Frenchmen, for us, ah! What outrage
What methods must be taken?
It is us they dare plan
To return to the old slavery!
What! These foreign cohorts!
They would make laws in our courts!
What! These mercenary phalanxes
Would cut down our warrior sons
Good Lord! By chained hands
Our brow would yield under the yoke
The vile despots would have themselves be
The masters of destiny
Tremble, tyrants and traitors
The shame of all good men
Tremble! Your parricidal schemes
Will receive their just reward
Against you we are all soldiers
If they fall, our young heros
France will bear new ones
Ready to join the fight against you
Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors
Bear or hold back your blows
Spare these sad victims
That they regret taking up arms against us
But not these bloody despots
These accomplices of Bouillé
All these tigers who pitilessly
Ripped out their mothers' wombs
We too shall enlist
When our elders' time has come
To add to the list of deeds
Inscribed upon their tombs
We are much less jealous of surviving them
Than of sharing their coffins
We shall have the sublime pride
Of avenging or joining them
Drive on sacred patriotism
Support our avenging arms
Liberty, cherished liberty
Join the struggle with your defenders
Under our flags, let victory
Hurry to your manly tone
So that in death your enemies
See your triumph and our glory!

It might be violent, but it is one of the most emotionally provoking anthems in the world. I'm an American and I feel the out anthem is the best but I can't listen to the French anthem without getting very emotional.
I don’t know how I got here but I find France national anthem very similar to Mexico’s. Saludos a los Franceses.
You can proclaim yourself Marquis of [your street or town] and use it, so long as you use it quite exclusively so to identify the name as designating you.
May nasty blood quench our thirsty field!
The French national anthem is still the best. My national anthem is so boring.
what is your national anthem ?
When I hearding my anthem, i'm so prood to be french. Without french révolution, no freedom for the people of the world !
Bullshit : are we truly free right now ? we can't go to a f'n restaurant without a bloody ausweiss, and you say we have "freedom" thanks to the revolution that gave power to the fucks that govern us today ? You need to open your eyes and get your face out of that poor cow's ass, darling...

France has the best ratio of military victories in the world.
There have been 53 major conflicts in Europe. France was a belligerent in 49 of them, and the United Kingdom in 43.
Among the 185 battles France has fought over the past 800 years, its armies will have won 132 of them, and lost 43, leaving only 10 battles undecided
Giving the French military the record of victories in Europe, and therefore in the world.
But France is something else:
- France is the second nation in the world to have made the most inventions and discoveries.
But it is also the Francophonie:
French is the second language taught in the world. The Francophonie brings together 49 countries around the world in a permanent council of the Francophonie, which meets every two years.
- French is today the 5th most spoken language in the world with 274 million speakers
- French is the 3rd business language in the world
- French is the 4th language of the Internet.
Thank you so much for showing that France is so important and all
True
GORY....
*We noticed that Americans like to judge other nations stuff a lot, especially when it comes to patriotism*
How to water your farmlands:
Everyone: use rain or river water
French anthem: WE MARCH RIGHT TO THE SLAUGHTER AND OUR FIELDS WILL LITERALLY DRINK THE RIVERS OF OUR BLOOD.

And the best ally and the worst enemy.
Friend is for amis and wife is for compagne

Mexico 🤝 France
Having surprisingly violent national anthem lyrics
What a badass anthem
Thank you Merci it used to be a War Song to motivate the French troops before it became the National Anthem of France. Written in 1792
Isn't the Mexican anthem violent? Also maybe the US national anthem. DEFINITELY "To Arms in Dixie."
KyleBuschPackFan huh?
Mexicanos al grito de guerra means Mexicans to the shout of war.
Just sayin that France doesn't have the only violent anthem.
Violent you say?
Mexico: Hold my tequila.
.... I still love the melody and the lyrics though.. It's upbeat!
Greetings from England and Japan!
