    I review the brand new XTOOL IP819 OBD2 diagnostic scan tool. This OBD2 scanner will read and reset all diagnostic trouble codes, (DTC) for every module in the vehicle. This scan tool also has full bidirectional control with actuation tests and special functions such as crank relearn and other system resets. This XTOOL model has basically the same features and functions as the XTOOL D8 but with a 1 inch smaller screen and slightly smaller battery, and of course a lower price.
    This tool has a bunch of functionality for the price. If you're looking for a scan tool with full bidirectional control but you don't want to break the bank with a tool that has really fancy hardware (like a huge high resolution scree, wirless VCI, etc) then this tool might be for you.
    Possible correction: In the video when I am reading the list of specs, when I get the spot where it says "processor: 2 G" I pause for a second and then I say something like "that must be a misprint, the system has 2 gigabytes of ram, and 32 gigabytes of storage". Well, it is possible that the specs were correct and it actually meant the processor is 2 GHz (gigahertz) which is the speed of the processor. And if that is the case, then it has a newer, faster processor than previous XTOOL models. Sorry for the confusion.

      Well, I wouldn't say the 2006 GMC is the best vehicle, but it's not bad. My 2022 KIA has FAR more live data and bidirectional control than that old truck of mine. And that is generally how it goes.... as vehicles get newer, more items become controlled by the vehicle's computer.... every item/function/device that is controlled by the computer creates more live data and more control.

      @WV591 Yes, FCA vehicles (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) from 2018 and newer have extra security requirements. I don't work on very many new FCA cars/trucks so I don't know the exact details but you either need that extra cable (I don't think they are very much money) and/or an AutoAuth account to access most modules within those vehicles.

    They updated the D8 with about 8-9 new special functions. I have not checked the actuations yet, but I think they are updating the D8 to be a step above the IP819, which makes sense given the price difference.

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад +1

      When the big update came out for the D7 (because Autel updated the 808 line of tools) in mid summer of 22, I asked if the D8 would get anything new. At that time I was told the D8 update (software V4.27.9) only included optimized Live data. However, it was expected the D8 would receive some ADAS function in a future update. I do not have my D8 here but if the current software is newer than V4.27.9 then it probably now has the ADAS functions along with whatever else they decided to throw in. Yes, I would expect the D8 to cost more simply because it has a larger screen and a larger battery but I also wouldn't doubt that is has a bit more functionality than the IP819. Thank you for the comment, Sir!

    It’s really hard to compare all these Xtool devices since there’s not much difference at the moment, but an update like they did with the D7 might be a future gamechanger.
    After watching your video about the D7 update (which basically made it an D8 but without the hardware and ECU capabilities) It was clear for me to go for a D7 until I came across the IP819..
    There’s not really much difference now between the D7, D8 & IP819 except the hardware, my guess would be that they’re bringing topology diagnostic to the D8 in the future which would be the game changer update. But for now I’m really struggling to make a choice between these 3 devices.

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад

      Between the D7, D8 and the IP819..... pick the one you like best and buy it. That is the only advise I can give. All three are very similar. The D8 has the largest screen of the three mentioned so if that matters to you, then go that route.... otherwise we're splitting hairs, in my opinion.

  • @stevew8614
    @stevew8614 7 месяцев назад

    Seems like a great device, so I ordered one! Unfortunately, not working for me though...“The communication between the device and the car ECU failed!” page is what I get on every vehicle (we have 5 different ones at my house) when trying to run scans. All software updated, engine ignition ON, cable connections seem good. Nothing. Disappointing. I've emailed their Tech support and hope they have some ideas otherwise back to Amazon it'll have to go. 😞 Just to confirm I wasn't doing something wrong or bad OBD ports etc. I hooked up my 11 year old Autel AL419 and no problems, it can scan my cars fine.

    I have the D8.. This looks exactly like a D8, but with a smaller screen: Yet it's for the same price. I'm not sure why they make so many different versions when several of them are virtually the same. They don't' do a good job explaining the distinctions between one and the others either. I do like my D8 though, and if you find an issue, make sure to file a "report" on it, and they will typically get a fix for it within a week or two, and then send out an official update to everyone within a month or so. They are really good at fixing bugs; I've seen that on several different channels.

    Does it do mileage correction?

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад

      I get that question a lot on my XTOOL videos..... I have not specifically tried to adjust a speedometer with this particular XTOOL scan tool but if I had to guess, I'd say YES it does do mileage correction. (only on vehicles that support mileage correction in the first place) Simply because every other XTOOL scan tool that I have reviewed, even tools with a lower level of functionality, had that ability.... no reason why this model would be any different. But again, I have not personally tried it myself so don't hold me to it 100%. Thanks.

    Mate what’s better D8 or IP918? Thanks

    • @calholli
      @calholli Год назад +2

      The D8 is slightly better: it has a larger screen and larger battery; So it's better hardware. I wouldn't doubt that it might have a few extra functions peppered in that this one doesn't have. But they virtually look identical in the GUI- software and how it's laid out. It looks like it's just D8 software on smaller screen; but if it was- I wish they would just come out and say that. They have a dozen other models that are similar, some that may even have a different layout- but still does all the same functions. Trying to sort out what is better is pretty frustrating with these guys. I have a D8 though, for $700.. and for that price it's keeping up with most of the other $1300 scan tools just fine. So I'm actually super happy with it. It's particularly good with making IMMO keys too; which can pull codes from computers in Acura's and Nissans, for example-- which normally takes a specialized locksmith scan tool. So that's a big bonus on the D8: that I'm not sure this IP918 is verified to do. There are so many things to test, it's hard to know which one is better.

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад

      Because it's the same as any other XTOOL scan tool. Really the only difference between this tool and the many other XTOOL products is the physical shape of the tool itself, and maybe one or two other hardware specs. I didn't feel I needed to show all those functions individually once I determined it basically has the same functionality as the D8. There are dozens upon dozens of those videos already on RUclips. How many times does a guy need to watch someone reset an oil light? (for example) Not to mention.... How many times can a guy make (what feels like) the same video over and over again? Sorry you didn't care for my video.... but I do appreciate the question.
